Delmonico's began as the first restaurant in the United States and has had a profound impact on American dining tradition. Our setting is where nearly two centuries of notable poets, affluent socialites, celebrities and presidents have celebrated in the splendor that is Delmonico's. Delmonico's welcomes Executive Chef Bill Oliva our kitchen. While preserving the classic dishes such as Lobster Newburg, Delmonico's Steak and Baked Alaska, Bill brings a level of culinary sophistication to Delmonico's with his addition of creative seafood offerings and other inventive dishes.   • "Always wanted to dine in Delmonico's. Such a part of early NY history. My experience was outstanding in every way except for the steak! Service was excellent (helpful, friendly, attentive without being intrusive). The restaurant is large but the space is divided so that one is comfortable. Some tables are somewhat close together but the ambience is quite pleasant and congruent with the restaurant's history. I had the Delmonico steak (ribeye)--it was ok but cooked slightly more rare than requested (medium ordered) and I found it tougher than steaks in other similar restaurants. This may have been an unusual occurrence but a grander steak was expected."

  • "This is usually a very dependable restaurant to take important clients to. I booked my table for 5 weeks in advance when we arrived we were showed to a table in the basement(my first time in the basement). This was not what I expected and it was not the same as the wonderful decor on the main floor. The steak I had was not very good either(very unusual), it was very tough and difficult to chew. I can only hope my customer was not being polite when he said his was good. I don't know what more to say other than, I will probably bring this customer somewhere different if I get the chance."

  • "After struggling to agree on a 'trendy' restaurant in Midtown, we decided that tried and true Delmonico's would be our choice. We were not disappointed. If you are looking for trendsetting tiny spoons of foam or a single mouthful of marrow, this is not the place for you. Great steak and seafood choices, well prepared and generously sized, tastefully presented with a dizzying array of side dishes to add. Extensive wine list. Crisp service yet unhurried. A memorable dinner for our anniversary in New York City ."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation and were seated right away. The risotto appetizer was wonderful, but we chose the Lobster for two, which was on the evening's specials. This was a mistake. The lobster had been taken out of the shell in the kitchen and presented as two servings in it's shell, however just coming back to NY from the Florida Keys, it tasted a little dry. We should have stuck to our favorite, the Lobster Newberg, which has always been wonderful. All in all, we enjoyed our evening and will return again."

  • "3 jn our group ordered the steak and were quite pleased. The other had a seafood platter that was OK at best. Because of that I can heartily recommend the steaks! The ambience was classic old steak place. Paintings on the wall gave a unique look. The service was solid and our waiter gave good recommendations on both wine and dessert. I wanted to give 4 stars, but the barely adequate seafood dish dropped it down to 3."

  • "I had a wonderful time at Delmonico's. The atmosphere, the sense of eating in an historic place yet sitting in a private dining room was wonderful. The service was excellent as was the food and the choices available. I sat with my three companions drinking it all in and actually able to hear what they were saying. I confess that I do like the steaks at Peter Luger a bit more - a little bit juicier a little bit more flavorful - but given that this is in my office's backyard, it was perfect and a great experience in and of itself."

  • "Enjoyed our visit to Delmonico's for dinner to clebrate our 23rd anniversary. This was our 2nd time to visit and the service is superb and all the staff are very friendly. A lot of pride can be seen and tasted in the food that we received. The food was very good yet for the price it is what I would expect. Alot of tables in the open dining room but the noise level was overall low. Will definitely come back again in future visits to NYC. Rated it a "4" overall but would really put it between at about a 4.5 if I could.."

  • "The restaurant was quite exquisite and the atmosphere was delightful. We were originally seated in the table that Tesla would frequently dine at, however, another waiter came to escort us to a central table that was less confined. I loved the Renoir paintings and the lighting was perfect.The waiters were all very conscious and courteous to our needs and desires. The food was without a doubt decadent. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly as well as the wild bass. The creamed spinach was also very delicious. This was by far the best five star dinner I've ever experienced. I would definitely recommend eating here for special occasions and or any occasion that would fit the scene. The bar was also lovely too and the bartender was attendant."

The night we went there was a filming going on in a back room and the door was left open with the lights pointed in my direction, but it was only a mild annoyance (and if I had said anything they would probably have closed the door). My European guests remarked that although the waiter was polite and efficient, his service lacked the deference expected of a 5 star restaurant. Overall, very good restaurant."

  • "A very upscale and elegant old world establishment restaurant. The fillet mignon is melt in your mouth wonderful Ours was done medium and was perfect. The delmonicos salad was very tasty and the crab meat Mac and cheese was incredibly rich and filled with lots ofcrab meat. The saddest part was that we were too stuffed to eat dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. A different atmosphere and menu is available in the bar area."

  • "We got to Delmonico's, at long last, during Winter Restaurant Week. Everything was perfect: service, food, ambiance, location. We felt very welcome--special--privileged to get to enjoy this wonderful restaurant at a price that didn't break the bank. In fact, this experience helped us plan to return when it's not restaurant week. Specifics: I chose the lobster chowder and arctic char with butternut squash risotto and the grand-marnier cheesecake; and my companion the duck ragu cavatina (?), short ribs (with?), and chocolate mousse. And, we shared a bottle of the $30 restaurant week cabernet sauvignon. What more could one ask?"

  • "My fiancé and I decided to go for the first time for dinner during Winter Restaurant Week. From the moment we stepped in through the door, our experience was top notch. We were greeted warmly upon entering, and was guided to have our coats checked. The ambience of the restaurant is breath-taking. Dimly-lit, romantic and calm. Once it reached 7:30pm though, the place livened up with diners' voices. And the food? Immaculate. Delicious. Simply wonderful. For entrees, he had the steak while I had the boneless ribs and both were amazing. For dessert, he had the cheesecake and I had the famous Baked Alaska. Scrumptious. Would definitely come back again!"

  • "We went for restaurant week. I had the lobster chowder and had less than 8 spoons of soup. The petite filet was minuscule and the largest part of the meal was the Baked Alaska. The food we had was excellent in taste and quality. With that said the portions were ridiculously small. Therefore, I gave a fair rating."

If your eat meat, steak is the way to go here and save room for the baked Alaska, a dish first created by the original Delmonico's. Service is brusque, especially if your not dropping big bucks."

  • "The food was fantastic. Their bacon appetizer was incredible and their signature steak was delicious, simply seasoned and soft as butter even though I requested it medium well. Not too many places can pull that off. The server was a bit tired due to the Restaurant Week crowd - and seemed a little short with us, bordering on rude. However, after initiating conversation with him and asking his name, he changed and gave us his A game. Try the restaurant during regular dining days, and the experience is a great one."

Got the delmonico a steak for a $15 supplement for the main course and that was just a bit dissspppinted. The steak I had before at delmonico was better. The dessert came in miniature size."

The tiny cauliflower and tablespoon amount of soggy potatoes as provided sides with the steaks for which a hefty supplemental charge was made is sad. The service was good."

  • "Seven of us dined at Delmonico's during Restaurant Week at the reduced price. Oftentimes, restaurants do not give you the same service as full price diner's, but not a Delmonico's. The waiter was attentive and courteous. The food was outstanding. The filet mignon was like butter! Try the Baked Alaska, sweet and delicious. Our next special occasion will definitely be a reservation at Delmonico's."

  • "would have loved to sit upstairs (more decorative with high ceilings than downstairs), but nice nevertheless. went for restaurant week, loved everything but wasn't completely impressed with my filet. hate to say i wanted steak sauce but did not add any. bacon was great, cheesecake was light and night, but i can say i may have had overall better food elsewhere (smith & wollensky was fantastic). next on the list, peter lugers!"

  • "I was really excited to go to finally go to Delmonico's for Restaurant Week and the food was excellent. Unfortunately our host was not as attentive to us when we arrived (and on the way out I'm glad she bothered to look up from her phone to wave goodbye to us) and our server acted as if he couldn't be bothered with us. I would seriously have to think about coming back again, just because of the service which dampered my dining experience."
