A word from dell'anima
dell'anima means "of the soul" in Italian and the food features hearty, eloquent dishes of thoughtful simplicity. Our menu offerings change daily, and we use local, seasonal, sustainably harvested produce where possible. Our menu features a selection of pastas made in-house daily, traditional dishes rarely found outside of Italy, and Italian-inspired creations that are of Thompson's own invention. Our wine list features an array of small production, high-quality selections with an emphasis on traditional and natural winemaking. Over 200 hand-chosen wines are selected for flavor, uniqueness and tradition. dell'anima is open for lunch Monday through Friday 12:00pm to 5:00pm, weekend brunch 11:00am to 3:00pm and dinner Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 pm until 2:00 am, Saturday 5:00pm to 2:00am, Sunday 5:00pm to 12am and Monday 5:30pm to 12am. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, dell'anima offers aperitivo from 4 pm - 6 pm. Reservations are recommended but we accept many walkin-ins.Continued

  • "I took a friend here for a birthday dinner and it was great. We started off sharing the butter lettuce salad. It was a little small, but very light and delicious. My friend had the gnocchi and I had the chicken. I usually don't get chicken in an Italian restaurant, but the waiter recommended it and I was glad I listened. The gnocchi was incredibly fresh but we both agreed and liked the chicken better. If Tony the bartender is there, say hi, he's awesome. "

  • "I tried L'artusi (nearby sister resataurant), I was intrigued and wanted to give them a try. The first neagtive occured at the fornt end with the hostess. With an early seating reserved, there was one other couple already dining and 90 minutes before the next guest. After a short fumble we were ushered to possibly the 2nd worst seat in the empty house, unacceptable. The hostess had to get clearance before seating us at one of the many other available and better tables. Thankfully the wait staff are awesome and the antipasi were competently prepared and quite tasty. The Secondi on the otherhand were pricey, a poor value, and tasted gimmicky as if they were done in the same store bought sauce/rub. It was a bit surprising and I wont be back."

  • "Dell'anima's team has mastered the art of creating deeply memorable eating experiences using simple combinations of perfectly chosen ingredients. Everything that hit the table was as close to perfection as I have experienced. Service was personable, efficient but unobtrusive. The wine list is exceptional; try one of the very unusual "orange wines" featured--you won't easily forget it. Advice, descriptions, tastes and background information on all the beverage selections were all provided graciously. The only debits were noise level (uncomfortably high at 7 PM on a weeknight, much better by 8:30) and temperature (a seat near the open kitchen was uncomfortably hot). Reservations are hard to get, and for good reason."

She was way too present and repeatedly asked if we were finished when it was clear that we were enjoying our conversation over our last drinks. I could understand the need for a table when there's a line out the door and it's already a full house but neither was the case and the restaurant was nowhere near a beehive of activity. To come over 4 times in the span of 25 minutes is ludicrous."

  • "Overall, the food and wine options were broad and choosing options was difficult. We ordered some bruchetta (which was a nice start to the meal), the charred octopus for appetizer to share, and then she had the Arrabbiata and I had the Carbonara. As usual for grilled octopus, it can be a little rubbery, which was acceptable as the flavor was good. The bad part was that the chorizo was HEAVILY salted. It made it almost impossible to finish as the salt over-powered the meal. Once we got our dinners, I was pleased with my carbonara, but my date's arrabbiata was so over peppered that she coudn't finish it. She noted that it wasn't the usual chef, but the over-use of salt and pepper really overshadowed a great wine and dinner spot."

  • "Tried this place because it is one of my friend's favorites in the neighborhood - have to say I wasn't overly impressed. The food was good, but the service was lacking - I think we were served by 5 different people, it took them forever to ask if we wanted drinks even though the restaurant wasn't busy, etc. It was also a more casual ambiance than I had expected. So if you want a casual bite of good Italian, this place is fine, but if it's any kind of occasion or special night I'd skip it."

  • "So disappointed! I my boyfriend and I have wanted to try this place for months (after waiter at l' artusi told is it was same owners, more casual vibe. We LOVE l'artusi!) Terrible service! Came here to celebrate my friends engagement. Waiter was beyond rude. Litterly walked away from us while we were in middle of ordering!! We were too slow / indecisive so rather than helping speed is along with suggestions he walked away mid order . Waiter was so unpleasant he really killed the vibe of our celebration. Food (or what we ordered) was average except the amazing octopus and spreads. Sad.... Very sad as I loved the casual vibe to this cute little West village resturant."

  • "Have been to dell'anima about six times in the past 18 months. The food is always very good and reliable. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Sadly, the service has continued to slide. On my recent visit on a Friday night for dinner, the restaurant wasn't full when we arrived, yet the waitress spent a lot of time chatting with her colleagues near the bar and it was hard to get her attention. Further, she didn't tell us about the specials until we asked and then when we asked for a recommendation between two dishes, she was indifferent and seemed annoyed. It's a great neighborhood gem, I hope they can upgrade their service, soon."

  • "I went to dell'anima on saturday night. my date and i sat up at the chefs counter (we just made a regular reservation and requested to sit there when we checked in. we ended up waiting a bit longer for a spot to open up, but it was totally worth it). we met the chef and asked him for recommendations. We ordered the octopus, and the cappellacci and cioppino at the chef's recommendation and I'm so glad we did. They were extremely delicious - the Cappellacci was our favorite-- the duck ragu was amazingly tender and flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The octopus and cioppino were extremely tasty as well, but if i were only able to order once dish, i'd get the cappellacci. We will be back."

  • "The meal was outstanding. We sat at the Chef's table overlooking the kitchen, Every dish was beautifully prepared and looked amazing. Our dinner was Fantastic. I have gluten and dairy allergies and the chef made recommendations and prepared things for me. The staff was knowledgable, friendly and perfectly attentive. We had wine pairings with each of our courses and they were perfectly chosen. This restaurant our new "must go to" when we are in NYC!"

  • "4 of us went for my birthday dinner on Sunday Jan 12. Night started out nice, brushetta was very good. It went downhill from there. Waited 30 minutes for salads and other appetizers which were uneventful. We waited and waited for the main courses. After being there 2 hours , it was 845p and we had a 645p reservation the waitress came over and said 3 more minutes and our meals will be out. 20 minutes later our meals appeared, two pasta dishes, one chicken dish and one duck. The duck was ice cold, as were the pasta dishes. The chicken was steaming hot but the so spicy it was inedible! The pasta was oversalted and just not good. The manager did come over and didn't charge us for the 2 pastas and a glass of wine. Our overall experience was bad."

  • "I love dell'anima and all of the epicurean restaurants. We had just gotten engaged earlier in the day and were ready for a great into.ate meal with a few friends. The food was outstanding as usual. The plates are modest portions, but we split a whole bunch of them between the four of us and were filled. tons of wine knowledge, the grappa is delicious, sweetbreads were perfectly cooked, and I always enjoy the duck ragu and pollo a diavolo. Great for an end-of-the-night drink."

Perfect sized menu (not overwhelming but plenty of choice); incredibly fresh, tasty pastas; great scones and my "Ovo in Purgatorio" was terrific. The brussell sprouts were a bit too sweet for my liking but overall a great experience and I'd definitely come again!!"
