Diner Reviews
  • "Noisy. Waitress very pleasant. Food very disappointing. Steak ordered "medium" was rare and without flavor. "Special" braised lamb shank was $30 - greasy and bland. Our worst experiene at this place that we've been to a lot."

  • "They had a $22 dollar mimosa pitcher special - the pitchers were on the small side but very tasty. Chilaquiles with chorizo were really good. All the entrees looked delicious. Great outdoor seating and perfect for people watching. I enjoyed our brunch."

  • "I liked the ambiance at Deleece. It was a busy Sunday afternoon. Lots of people. Family friendly (although I don't like to eat at places that have kids at nice restaurants for dinner). I'd definitely return but for a much later dinner to avoid the kid headache."

  • "Party of 6...shared some creative appetizers and desserts. Each had a different entree. Everyone was quite satisfied with the food and the service. The noise level did make conversation a little hard. The restaurant has valet parking which is good because parking in the neighborhood is a challenge."

  • "very good food, in a restaurant located in a lively neighborhood and right next to a theatre, which makes a combination outing very easy!"

  • "Always wanted to try this restaurant but parking was not easy in its old location. Very glad they movedfurther south on Southport. Appetizer, entree and dessert were outstanding"

  • "Had a groupon that we used for Deleece. The food was decent, but not fabulous. Manhattan was ok at best, even though they used good bourbon. Like the atmosphere. Service was only OK, Considering that they were not real busy, that was surprising. Would go back, but only with a Groupon, or buying one of the their weeknite special deals."

  • "I have been to Deleece many times. This Monday, when a friend visited, I wanted to dine well, and show off the flavors of Chicago to her. I had never tried Deleece's pre fixe menus, although I have received weekly emails, so I thought this may be the perfect opportunity. I had a difficult time deciding, since choosing from three appetizers, three entrees and two desserts were more choices than I anticipated... I opted for a market salad with a delightful light and flavorful dressing, the cod with an amazingly flavorful peperade (I hope I spelled this correctly) that was perfectly cooked and heavenly, and ended the meal with banana/chocolate bread pudding, a delectable dessert. My friend was impressed and I was happy. We will return."

  • "Came here for dinner with a couple of girlfriends on a Friday night. I had been here once before and live on the Southport Corridor. Overall, we had a good experience, the food was good, and the drinks were better than expected. The waiter seemed very knowledgeable but did not come around often at all. My biggest complaint though would be that I ordered a steak dish medium rare and it came well done. I was very disappointed in this especially for the price. I am hoping this was a one time mistake and I would definitely come back as the rest of the food was very delicious, not sure I would order steak here again though."

  • "Great food and service with moderate prices. We come here every time we're in Chicago. Absolutely the best salmon I've every had. It melts in your mouth! Never had a bad meal! Atmosphere is a little hectic/crowded but well worth it. Not the place for quiet intimate conversation."

  • "Two friends and I went to Deleece for dinner Saturday evening and had a most enjoyable experience. The beet and goat cheese salad was too bland but the filet special, seafood special and the Pork & Beef Papardelle were all terrific. The homemade ice cream was the best any of us had ever had. Deleece needs to get better wine glasses, though, if the restaurant is going to sell red wine in the $70 - $100 range."

  • "Went here before a performance of "Into the Woods" at the Mercury Theater. Would highly recommend the entire outing. The food was fancy-licious, and the convenient proximity + the friendly wait-staff made the entire experience terrific."

  • "I went there on saturday night and it was busy. We had a reservation at 7:30- were seated at 7:45pm. There is not any space to wait in the restaurant, you have to wait in the theather lobby. The host seemed to have a chip on her shoulder about how crowded it was and kept shutting the door. I was a little worried we were going to be forgotten- but we didn't thank goodness. The food was delcious- I had the filet and I loved it- I usually don't order steak, so I am not an expert, but they cooked it just right! We also shared brussel sprouts which were tasty- but not a must. The Lobster roll had a LOT of celery in it which took away from the lobster flavor. Salmon-cooked perfectly. We also had the lamb, duck. Both were so-so."

  • "I love place. Ever dish I've tried is delightful. The servers are attentive, and we once, about a year ago, we had a very pleasant conversation with either the manager, co-owner, or someone else someone high up on the chain. He was very friendly, welcoming, and proud of the place - as he should be!"

  • "Had been to old location and was pleased. This time was not worth the price $150 for 2 or our time. Steak was chewy, beet salad was the worst I've had. Servers were toooo casual in dress and attitude."

  • "From the moment we walked in it was a very pleasant experience, the restaurant was hopping and we could see why our server was great and offered us cocktails right away and my partner loves 7 and 7 she mentioned you did not carry Seagrams 7 but offered Jack Daniels as an option and he loved it. The food was excellent I a salad to start and my partner the French onion soup both were good, our main course I had the chicken and he the steak frites both did not dissapointment."

  • "We loved the cocktails, the wine, the appetizers - I would highly recommend the mussels and fried olives. For dinner three of us had an amazing pork chop and the fourth had the parpadelle - that was outstanding. The only complaint was the waiter. He was slow to our table, missing quite a bit and near the end tried to be our best friend. He also was about 5 -10 years older than us and called us boys (we are in our 50's). We highly recommend this place - just do not have Mark P as the waiter"

  • "Deleece was my second choice for a special before-theater dinner; my first pick was already booked, & I'm very pleased it turned out this way. The reservation process was simple;I got a call to confirm in the morning; service, including attention to our show's start time & thorough knowledge of the menu & wine list was excellent; 3 very different meals were delicious. We got a nice little corner table which suited us perfectly. The center of the room seemed a bit noisier, but not so much as to drown conversation."

  • "I never heard of this restaurant but am glad I took a chance at it. The food was perfection and they tried not to cook routine. They were creative and tried to make a healthier option. Would highly recommend it."

  • "My husband and I got to the restaurant at 6pm. No one was there at all. You need to enter via the theater's entrance which I thought to be kind of strange. The server had a little chip on his shoulder but I have to say that was quickly overlooked when the food came to the table. I had Tuna (perfectly seared) and my husband had the salmon also PERFECTLY prepared. We also had this amazing after dinner drink that was prepared table side. I would most definitely go back again AND bring friends."

  • "Most of the people here were in the pre-theater crowd, so when we arrived, there was a bustling, somewhat rushed atmosphere, but when the theater crown left around 8, however, this relaxed and our service was quite good. The beet and caesar salads were both good. I had the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked and very flavorful, if small. My girlfriend had the steak frites. While the steak was cooked properly and pretty good, the fries were a disaster; soggy, cold, too thick, just all wrong. This really killed her dinner and if they don't rethink the frites, it shouldn't be on the menu. Our 'cracker jack' dessert was really delicious. Overall, this is a good neighborhood bistro with a good atmosphere, maybe just not a destination spot."

  • "I've visited Deleece many times, but my last experience put me off so much that I may never return. We arrived 10 minutes late for our reservation and were told our table wasn't yet ready. We were seated approximately 45 minutes after our reservation. While waiting for our table, we attempted to get a drink at the bar. We were ignored time & time again by the 2 bartenders on staff -- it was 15 minutes until we were acknowledged. Once we were finally seated, our server came by 2 or 3 times to tell us he'd be with us shortly. He was very knowledgeable, but far too busy to give us the attention we deserved. The food was excellent, but everything else was a huge disappointment. I think I'll skip Deleece next time and go to Sola instead."

  • "We have been dining at Deleece for several years - we thoroughly enjoy the new space on Southport, near the Music Box Theater. The menu continues to be interesting and the food has gotten progressively more interesting and service is spot on. Interesting wines by the glass and truly exceptional specials the evening we were there. When we left, to attend a movie, the place was really jumping and the bar scene was lively, to say the least. Keep it up - we shall be back!"

  • "I was put off by Deleece’s former location, but wanted to give it a try in its new space adjacent to the Mercury Theatre. Much better! The food was terrific, the service friendly & helpful, and the space is great -- comfortable, alive, and adequately lit for me. On a recent Friday night, it was noisy, but we hollered our way through dinner in spite of that. We enjoyed lamb specials this visit: my lamb shank was delicious and appropriately falling-off-the-bone tender, and my companion’s lamb chops were delicious. A beet salad graced with braised fennel was lovely and scrumptious. We were too full for dessert, but the menu was very appealing -- we’ll be back."

  • "SO LOUD we had to shout!! We had to wait to be seated despite our reservation but were addressed pleasantly by three wait staff who were ready to help us. It was several minutes before anyone came by and then it was the bread/water guy slapped the stuff on the table without a greeting.Drinks were good. I love my steaks nearly raw but NOT my duck. The rutabaga gratin was underdone and tough. I sent the duck back and was rewarded with what looked like overcooked leftovers from several ends of the duck breast dumped on the plate rather than artfully arranged as the raw duck had been. My husband's meal was underdone and the fries soggy. It seemed the kitchen staff were overwhelmed by the diners and undercooked everything. We will not return."

  • "the energy level has ramped up and the room gets crowded. But the food is as wonderful as ever. And if our server is any indication, service has moved up a few notches. Deleece is great for any occasion now."

  • "My partner dined on a Friday evening. The seating is close but not packed. The room was full and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. My partner and I loved the choices on the menu and had trouble deciding, but the server was extremely helpful with the process. The food was excellent and the plating was appealing and quite generous. We did not feel rushed. We walked out feeling satisfied and happy. We will definitely return."

  • "Absolute diamond in the rough - love the Southport corridor in general and had always wanted to check out Deleece. Wish we had taken the time sooner! Service was amazing, menu was fresh and the presentation did not disappoint. Deleece will be a staple for our date nights from here on out. Cheers."

  • "Food was terrific and very fairly priced. From the calamari appetizer to the amazing ice cream for dessert we loved every bite. Service was great, especially give the crowds on Friday night. The noise was a bit much but I guess that it helped keep our conversations private given the proximity of other diners. We really liked this restaurant and we will be back."

  • "Good idea to make a reservation if you are going before a Mercury Theater performance; it is very popular. The fried calamari rings were very tender and tasty, next time I will ask for a bit more of the yummy sauce that goes over them. And we had the braised leg of lamb from the daily special that was also good. It has a very nice wine list as well."

  • "I have been to Deleece quite a few times. This visit, however, was one of the best. My friend and I had one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. Crispy Fried Olives with Pesto Aioli to start, followed by an Arugula Salad with honey-glazed figs, and a seared Mahi Mahi that was a Special for the evening. Dessert consisted of a warm, delicious apple crisp (adorned with spun sugar), and a scoop of Cherry-Goat Cheese ice cream on the side. Yum! Our server, Valerie, was fabulous. This place is becoming one of my favorite spots. The only downside was the noise level. It's a very loud restaurant. Hard to have a conversation when you have to yell across the table. Ah well. That one issue is not a deal-breaker. I'll be back!"

  • "The lamb and salmon dishes were excellent - very tasty and done well. Salmon was very moist and cooked rare as requested. Sides were generous. Service was not so good - server did not mention or offer the daily specials menu, even after we had asked about items we had seen on the restaurant's website video. Will definitely return - many more options to try on the menu."

  • "Took our two young children out to dinner and had an excellent experience! Our server was wonderful with the kids. I loved that the adult food was excellent and the children's food was great, too. I would have eaten my son's quesadilla for dinner - really good. They have a new pastry chef, and the desserts were delicious. We had a valentines day special. Would definitely go back!"

  • "We've lived in the area for a while, and finally ended up trying it out thanks to a groupon. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambience was very nice. We went late in the evening on a Sunday, and it was definitely not overcrowded- but moderately busy. I loved the beef tips over polenta and the duck breast with blackberry sauce-- both had excellent texture and delightful blending of flavors. It's a great spot for a small group or a date night, or even to take the family. We'll definitely be back!"
