Diner Reviews
  • "Great food and the service was impeccable. They staff made us feel so welcome and took such great care of us. I'm a traveler and have eaten in restaurants around the world. Del Posto is definitely up there with the best of the best. Innovative and creative menu, excellent wine list and old world "swanky" atmosphere. Loved it all around and will definitely be back."

  • "It's all you'd expect from a Mario B's signature restaurant. Extremely elegant and engineered to serve and deliver. You'll pay the price for it but it's one of those experiences you just need in life at least once."

  • "Lunch with foodie friends that far exceeded our collective expectations!"

  • "This was by far the best restaurant we've ever experienced. The food was without a doubt perfectly prepared, presented and served. I can't even think of enough superlatives to describe it! Thomas and his team served us with grace and elegance at every turn. We selected the 5-course prix fixe menu which was well worth the price with chef surprises throughout dinner. I can't imagine better food or more perfect service anywhere. We can't wait to return!"

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday. Must do the 8 course with the wine pairing. So amazingly good. If you go, just expect to pay a lot so you're not surprised when you get the bill. An excellent overall experience. I will be going back. Only for special occasions of course."

  • "Literally, a great restaurant. Expensive, but worth every penny."

  • "Art food for high end prices just not for me - I gravitate towards cucina povera, so I'm in the wrong restaurant. Leaving the food for others to judge I will comment on the impeccable service, slightly marred by the waiters accent and somewhat indecipherable descriptions of the ( amusingly complex ) dishes. Presentation of the food so artfully arranged awakened a few dormant phrases; employees must wash hands (if) playing with food. The restaurant's great feature and fair justification for it's prices, is the space between the tables. A great place to have a conversation, with unobtrusive piano playing reminding you it's special. Architectural design spacious but somber."

  • "Classy dining experience. Definitely great for a special occasion. Expect to spend $250-$300 per person, more if you order more than a couple drinks each. Attentive service. Delicious meal! Definitely would come back!"

  • "We went for a celebration, and Del Posto is the perfect place for one. The food is expensive but utterly delicious. We've been here before, and the portions were larger than I remembered (except for the semolina cake dessert, which was small). My son had the truffled beef Carne Cruda, the ricotta & egg yolk gnudi (amazing) and the cacciucco. The agnolotti --tasty little bites of pork & veal; the duck breast melt in your mouth tender. You receive the ultimate in pampering and service, down to the staff walking us to the restrooms which are tucked away in the back. They even sent out a special dessert for my son to say congratulations. How this restaurant only has one Michelin star is puzzling. An expensive meal but well worth it."

  • "This was a surprisingly great experience. I was worried that Italian cuisine couldn't reach the heights of sophistication that I expected at this price point, but it did. The gnudi we had as a primi course was a little bland, but the lasagna was easily lighter and more delicate than I'd imagined was possible. Neither of us care much for Italian desserts, but here they were wonderful. And the service was exceptional. The head waiter was personable, engaging, polite and not in the least overbearing, unlike his compatriots around the city. The space is a little cavernous, but the tables are nicely spaced, and the details are thought out. Highly recommended."

  • "The decor, service, ambiance are all fitting a restaurant of this quality and rating. Three and a half hours for a five course evening is too long. The food was excellent, the staff outstanding. The restrictive menu selection process coupled with the up charges for certain menu items was an annoyance and a negative. The servings were good size, the menu creative and the presentation artistic and entertaining."

  • "Went here for my boyfriend's birthday, and did the Il Menu Del Posto tasting menu, and it was great. Service was impeccable, and it really is worth the money that you pay for. We had: 1.Cool Lobster Burrata, Fermented Broccolini & Lemon Pane Grattato (large, perfectly cooked lobster chunks. Very Light ) 2. Slow-Cooked Salmon Rosmarino (nice crust on the outside, seasoned well) 3.Browned Butter Panna Cotta (the browned butter had a caramel-like taste, Rich and decadent taste) 1.Charred Octopus (best thing I had to eat from Del Posto) 2.Heritage Pork Trio (So-so.) 3.Butterscotch Semifreddo (so smooth, like eating gelato. Delicious. Two pastas: Spaghetti with Dungeness crab, (Slightly spicy and good) and the Garganelli Verdi al Ragù Bolognese"

  • "Each visit to Del Posto reveals some new delight. The consistency of this outpost under the High Line is it's main draw. Things can get pricey and precious but those occasional foodie affectations are always balanced by dedication to basic goodness in ingredients, preparation and presentation. It's nearly impossible to go wrong at this now-standard new York oasis of culinary excellence and imagination."

  • "The food at Del Posto was amazing. It is perfect for foodies. We had a celiac with us and the gluten free options were the best ever. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves good food and looking for a food experience that is unique. We had gnudi for a pasta course that was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. THe meat course at Del Posto is top notch. The service is attentive, but not stuffy. If you are looking for an outstanding meal this is the place!!"

  • "Del Posto is such a special place. I cannot say enough about the service and food. My daughter and I dined there on our Mother/daughter trip to NYC. We had read reviews, but were not prepared for such an experience. We will never forget that wonderful evening! The food was absolutely incredible! I cannot wait to come back with my husband. This was the best meal I have ever had and I can't wait to see if he feels the same. I could go on about the various dishes that we were served, but they were all amazing and I would not know which one to rave about the most. The presentation of the dessert was the most memorable part of the evening."

  • "Perfect describes our lunch at Del Posto. The service, the wine, the food were all very special. As someone who is gluten free, and one who had been to at least eight restaurants over the week spent in NYC, the meal couldn't have been better! The vitello tonnato was superb - equal to any I've had in Italia. The agnolotti was delicate and the semigreddo a perfect ending to a marvelously romantic and delicious lunch. I look forward to returning to Del Posto as soon as possible."

  • "This restaurant is exceptional. I took my husband here for his birthday, and I was expecting it to be good - but I didn't know it was going to be THIS good. We did the 5-course tasting menu and my only complaint was that it was too much food. But each course was more delicious than the last. Our server was great and gave us tons of info on each dish and how it was prepared. Don't miss the 100 layer lasagne ...and the heritage pork and burnt beef entrees were amazing. Great, attentive service, wonderful ambiance - a real gem. Run, don't walk!"

  • "Had a great meal with remarkable service. I have many food allergies and the staff did an amazing job of working around them. Wonderful experience, will definitely be back on my next trip to New York. The pumpkin cappellacci was unbelievably good. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "Our Captain, Denis (and the whole service team actually) were spectacular. Polished, professional yet still had a warm and friendly personality that made this a dinner a night we will long remember. Thank you, Del Posto, for continuing to live up to your stellar reputation!!"

  • "Our lunch was perfect! We started with cocktails, I think mine was something like an agave spicy margarita and my daughter had a painkiller (although it's called something different). They were both wonderful. We both had the cool lobster salad for our starter and both of us agreed that we would order it again. We shared the black truffle pasta course, which was to die for. Both of us had a pasta main course, one pumpkin and the other neck meat, both were lovely. We paired each course with wine and got to sample a couple before we selected our pour. It was a wonderful meal with over the top service. Can't wait til I can go back!"

  • "My sister and I went for a Friday lunch and did the $39 prix fixe menu. We added two pasta courses for an extra $40 total for the table. The best waiter EVER Thomas Russo brought us an affordable white wine that was delicious. It's a high end place with some pretty swanky clientele. Some could argue that this is borderline stuffy, but Thomas was so fun and made it a really relaxed and fun lunch. All in... vitello tonatto, winter salad, garganelli, porcini ravioli, lamb, cacciucco, panna cotta, pecorino cake - all INCREDIBLE. Every dish was amazing. At the end of it all it still adds up to a pretty pricey lunch, though I have to admit that two extra pasta courses ended up being too much food. Still a STEAL compared to going during dinner."

  • "Not our first visit but it's been awhile. Nothing has changed and Del Posto is as expected and as described in multiple reviews on the internet: expensive but worth it. Our captain was charming and steered me in the direction of what for them is a moderately priced wine tact was delicious. Food was delicious, interesting, different, flavorful. Our request to sit in the main dining area vs the windowed front space was graciously accommodated. We will be back."

  • "The cavernous room, high ceiling and somber tones make dining at Del Posto a real joy before a menu has arrived. It is a beautiful room for dinner. The menu offers a wide choice of inspired Italian dishes. We chose the set course menu on this visit and it was just magnificent. We paired our food with the recommended wines and they worked beautifully, Service was wonderful. Dining at Del Posto is a must for any lover of food."

  • "We enjoyed an excellent meal that was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The ambiance is gorgeous with candles flickering all around. The service was impeccable. Each was explained in detail. But nobody is perfect. My wife complained that the light in the restroom was too dim to touch up her hair!"

  • "In parts excellent, but it was not consistent. Antipasti bitter greens with truffle dressing, winter vegetable salad, were both simple well executed and delicious. Primi course spaghetti with crab and scallions, secondi lobster with vegetables, and the spinach pasta with veal (and pork?) bolognese sauce were all excellent, even transcendent. However, antipasti Vitello tonnato looked lovely but was too bland, barely any tonnato flavor, no zip at all. Primi veal and pork agnolotti was completely underwhelming, served with a tiny bit of parsnip purée. It tasted fatty, maybe cooked with some of their house lardo which lay on the tongue in an unpleasant way. Deserts poorly described, off the mark. Did 5 course menu, rather order a la carte."

  • "Easily, the very best Italian food I've eaten. We had the Captain's Table, tasting menu, where the restaurant chooses which dishes and a complementary sequence. The dishes are tiny, but you are totally sated at the end of the dinner. Yes, it's $$$$ expensive, but totally worth it. The decor was beautiful and the area was spacious. The sound levels, high in most restaurants, was muted. The service was attentive, without being obtrusive, and carefully described each dish and how it was prepared. The meal began and ended with delectable amuse-bouches."

  • "Eccellente come sempre! Food Outstanding, Service always superb. My favorite Italian restaurant! Ivan, Mirko, Luke and the table service men were so accommodating and knowledgeable. You couldn't ask for better. My normal Food consultant Thomas was off, but his peers were just as amazing"

  • "Truly over the top - expensive - not what we expected. There are at least 4 Mario Batali cookbooks on our shelf that we use all the time. This was not recognizable as Italian per se. In fact, it was more reminiscent of Per Se. The service is way above standard though what you would expect in this environment. The menu is a tad confusing and the tasting menu must be ordered by the table, even a table of two. The space has soaring ceilings and a quietly elegant ambience. Truly incredible dining experience, though not for everyone."

  • "The ambience is very good from greeting at the door to service at the table. Main issue for my visit was that I ordered the veal chop and was served lamb chops. I accepted the lamb chops as they were excellent and to avoid disruption of the the entire party did not make a big issue at the time."
