They say you get what you pay for and nowhere does that ring true more than Del Posto. From the second you arrive you are treated like the upstairs family on Downton Abbey. A hostess leads you through a gorgeous movie set of a restaurant. For a second you'll feel like you're in a dream. Then on your way several staff will step aside and welcome you to your seat. Ladies if you bring a purse the staff will bring a small pillow-top stool for it to rest upon. Well qualified staff will then take you through the menu at a PhD level of detail. Every wine region, every culinary technique is explained in full. If you have a birthday or anniversary and aim to impress this is the place to do it.

Had a great time with my wife at Del Posto this past weekend. Grabbed a tasty cocktail at the bar while waiting for our table (we arrived earlier than reservation) and were promptly seated at a corner table in the main dining room, which gave a great view of the spacious interior. The food and wine were quite tasty. We opted to order ala carte instead of tasting menu and were pleased that the server did not try to force the tasting menu on us, as some places do. The whole pasta menu (other than the 100 layer lasagna) can be made gluten free to order, which is great for couples/groups where one person is GF and others are not.

What a great meal, from start to finish we we were treated like royalty and every thing we ordered was delicious. When you go out to eat as a Celiac, the menu is often a tangle of questions, or you get presented a separate menu which has about 1/3 of the choices on it. In fancier restaurants often the dishes are such small portions, that without the sustince provided by the bread basket, you basically go home hungry. Not at del posto! They remake every dish on their menu gluten free. And when you dine in a mixed group, they simply bring the gf people their pasta or bread, and the other get the gluten. It's amazing. I feel like a normal person. So thank you del posto for allowing me to try pasta I have only seen other people eat!

Mario Batali's upscale restaurant, Del Posto, is a beautiful establishment located directly across the street from Chelsea Market. Batali's fans should know that his prices are high, the portions are small and there's no lasagna, spaghetti, meatballs or parmesan of any kind on the menu. Prepare to be dazzled by the waitstaff and shocked by the bill, which by the way is printed on a beautiful sheet of paper, suitable for framing. Unless you're independently wealthy, I suggest going for the $49 pre-fixe lunch. Be prepared for add-ons such as $10 for pasta, $10 for lobster and $20 for steak. With the upgrades, a drink, tax and a 20% tip, you're in for about $100 per person. That's a lot for lunch but it's worth it for the experience.

At $39 for a three-course lunch, Del Posto is the hottest ticket in town. The Jewish holiday afforded me and my mother a special afternoon out. The waiter's recommendations were spot on. The kitchen has an excellent sense of texture, composition, balance, and finesse. Don't miss the lobster, burrata, and pickled broccolini appetizer or the livornese seafood stew main. The kitchen treated us to a complimentary dessert, a gorgeous but simple apple fritter. With the three amuses-bouche, pre-dessert of sour apricot sorbet and toasted cashew gelato, and mignardises, the meal was delight upon delight.

This is a beautiful space with impeccable service. Unless you're on an expense account, be prepared for sticker shock. The food is very good but nothing earth shattering - with the exception of the burnt beef which was outstanding. Sit at the bar, have a cocktail and plate of pasta. Skip the pomp.

Our meal at Del Posto was truly amazing. We ordered the five course tasting menu. The lobster with burrata appetizer was outstanding. The flavors burst in the mouth. It seems an unlikely combination but it is perfect. The salad was very pretty - we took a picture and I noticed others doing the same. The "burnt meat" was mouth watering, but be warned - it's really just a great steak. But truly great. The breads - oh my. Our favorite dessert was the butterscotch panna cotta. Even the cappuccino was the best I've had in a long time. Service was great - friendly and competent, not rushed. The captain described each dish in detail when it was brought - a nice touch. He was lovely. Beautiful space.

Del posto was amazing. Impeccable food service wine and cocktails. The only negative is the courses are a little too close together. We had to pack our entree to go, but portions are a nice size. I definitely will come here again. Our server Robin was amazing. The sommelier was also very knowledgable. The staff are so polite. They make you feel so special without being overbearing. I cannot wait to try other menu items. Worth the money.

Had the tasting menu. Very, very good antipasto and pasta, very creative, delicious. A fish soup instead of a fish course was a nice change and also very good. Meat main (veal loin with beef deckle attached by meat glue) and dessert (butterscotch and semifreddo) were tasty but neither creative nor impressive. Wine list is truly exceptional but requires a lot of knowledge to mine for the true gems. Very big bill, thanks in part to my wine excess (champers to start, 375ml white, 750ml gattinara, 375ml vin santo). Liked it but won't go back.

We enjoyed the overall feeling of the place and the service was spotless. But as far as the food goes we found the “captains menu” to be a rather disappointing experience relative to our expectations; great pasta but few other high notes. The wine pairing was excellent throughout though.

We went to Del Posto with very high expectations. Overall the food was exceptionally good and did not disappoint. The space is grand as befits an elegant restaurant. We arrived for an 8 PM reservation on a Friday night and were leaving around midnight. All in our group of five had the prix-fixe menu with 5 courses. We were attended to by an army of servers who were very polished, but still the time we had to wait between courses was too long. The real issue with this restaurant is the pretentious, overly precious attitude of the place. While individually the staff is competent and the chefs are superb, you can't but feel that they are putting on airs and basically acting out a script without conveying a genuine hospitality to the guests.

Outstanding and memorable in every way. This was our third visit and we chose to do the tasting menu with the wine parings and on both counts, it could not have been better. Del Posto evokes the upscale bistros of Paris or Brussels with its dark wood and warm, inviting lamps. The wine program, dedicated to the best of Italy, is a recent winner of Wine Spectator's "Grand Award". The food, upscale Italian, is delicious and presented well. The problem comes with the service. It is so attentive, it is actually intrusive. At this price point, I don't need the following: visits every five minutes to inquire how I'm doing; fresh napkins spread over the tablecloth to cover one small stain; my original napkin removed from my lap with tongs, replaced with a clean dessert napkin (that is weird). And when I ask for the men's room, I don't need to be accompanied to the door. Pointing it out is fine.

Having recently enjoyed Jean Georges and Daniel for the second time, I am flummoxed that those two establishments (excellent as they are) can possibly have more Michelin stars than Del Posto. I understand, food only, and on food merit alone, we experienced as much creative flair and unexpected surprises, and we both agreed, more consistent hits and delights at Del Posto... Plus, perfect service that makes you feel special while maintaining a sense of generosity and welcome, and a room that is so beautiful that you feel like nobility dining there.

Del Posto lives up to their "Fine Dining" status everything about it was magnificent.  We had the $126/person, 5 courses dinner + the black truffle sauce that one of our pasta had for $20 more.  I totally forgot all the fancy names but we started off with the grilled octopus and lobster, then 2 types of pasta, then our secondi choices of lobster and medium rare salmon including desserts were all delicious and flavorful. Every one who took care of us,  about 4 of them, were pleasant, attentive and very friendly but not stuffy. Our reservation was at 11 p.m. and we were not rushed to finish each course. We were there 'till about 2 a.m. It's became one of my favorite restaurants all over again.

This place continues to get it brilliantly right on all counts. The food is unbelievably good, with an increased level of 'adventurousness' as time goes by as well (e.g. the addition of a lobster and burrata starter might be a nod to Marea and Michael White, but just the same it's brilliantly executed here). The service remains not only seamlessly professional and thorough, but friendly, warm, and welcoming to a fault. The atmosphere is grand, but in no way intimidating; it feels both cozy and intimate and still elegant with a sense of 'special occasion'. A perfect wine list completes the picture. It's almost impossible to say enough good about the experience here. They well deserve their NY Times 4 stars.

It is extensive. Our waitress was not pushy and very understanding when we had questions. The food was impeccable. The salad with truffle dressing was simple and amazing. The carpaccio was delectable and perfect with the assortment of bread. oh! eat the bread! Our pastas were soft and perfectly portioned. I had lobster with fairytale eggplant as a meal, and it was such a nice balance of flavors. The best part- i wanted a cocktail to come out specifically at midnight, my boyfriends birthday, and it was perfect timing. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

We went to Del Posto when it was newly opened and said it was one of our top 10 meals ever. When we came back to New York with enough time to get a reservation, we are always torn about returning to a favorite or trying one of the many new places in the city. We are so happy that we returned because we had another out of this world experience at Del Posto. Every dish was terrific, and what we enjoyed most about the service was it was elegant, but extremely warm and friendly. The carne crudo was maybe my favorite thing, but it is hard to choose.
