Lovely surroundings, professional wait-staff, expansive wine list, and beautifully presented, delicious food. This is a restaurant for a "special occasion," although I would eat here regularly if my wallet could afford it. The food choices are creative, and the veal chop I had was honestly the best I have ever eaten.

As always a wonderful experience at Del Posto! However, would like to leave a small observations: Upon arrival, I felt the maitre d' was not friendly. My waiter was great. I guess they have a system to maintain guest information. He remembered what I ate and drank, felt nice and personal! However, the sommelier ( ?) was not polite and didn't seem to care for our table. The bottle we chose was not to par and had hoped to have it replaced or given a new one but was a bit disappointed with not being given any options. Our second wine by the glass was great so nice recovery! Food was delicious as always AND the desserts was fabulous. You can tell they take pride in their work. Some of the pieces was like art. Afterwards the Captain Thomas Russo gave us a private tour of the restaurant and realized how big and special Del Posto really is, especially the amount of wine bottles then keep!! I will surely be returning again and hope the small details can be improved upon.

Del Posto is 5 stars for service and decor, but only 3 stars for food. This was our second time at the restaurant. The site and the finely trained staff are magnificant. The food is good but on the bland side. Presentation shined over taste. However, desserts are the best. Also, the wine list is non pareil, though it would be nice to have less of a mark-up.

I've been at Del Posto 4 years ago, and after a long time I decided to come back, The food, wine list and the service are good, I really do not like the ambiance they need to remodelate in my opinion. I also believe the food was better before, today the food is expensive based on the quality.

Del Posto is always a delight. The team is highly personable and professional, the decor is opulent and romantic, the food is consistently excellent and there's live piano music from 7 pm. We usually have the 5 course menu where you choose an appetizer, two pasta dishes to share, a main course and dessert, whichi is a lot of food, all of it scrumptious. The lasagna is not to be missed! The wine pairing is innovative and well chosen. It's expensive but well worth the cost for a special evening.

We only get to visit NYC biannually, but we always try to have a dinner at Del Posto. They came through again last Friday. From the moment we walked in we were well received and the service only got better. Every member of the staff was helpful, and knew the dishes or was quick to go get a thorough answer. My wife and I had the Chef's tasting menu, and picked a good bottle of wine. I could not tell you all of what we had, but every bite was wonderful! My wife even liked the lamb course and that's one of the dishes I do not get at home. Several of the courses were adapted to suit our request for low salt and to compliment the wine. When I mentioned that "if it's not chocolate, it's not desert," we received not only the planned desert tasting, but an incredible construct of dark chocolate that was amazing - sort of a candy bar on steroids. I just can't wait until we get to visit again.

  • Best dining experience this year!

My wife and I come to New York once a year (the grandparents are kind enough to watch all the kids) and we eat at great restaurants and walk around the city and the park. This year our best overall food and best overall experience were both at Del Posto (beating out Bouley and Picholine). The service was perfect, the food was a delight (and perfectly portioned in the tasting menu), the restaurant was beautiful, the wine pairings were great and we had a wonderful meal. I don't completely agree with my wife, but in her view this beat out 11 Madison Park which was our top pick in every category last year - but it was a close call and probably a better value proposition even for me. We want to go back for dinner next time and hopefully get one of the balcony seats overlooking the main dining room - that would make for a perfect night. Don't listen to those who say it's lost some of its charm or quality or whatever over the years as some local friends told me - it was fantastic and I'm going to have to tell all of them to go back and experience a truly great meal/experience!

I've lived in NYC for many years and dine out a lot ... I'd heard about Del Posto for years ... finally decided to try and sorry to say was not impressed with the food - I started with the lobster caesar salad (grilled romaine lettuce) it was tasty and certainly better than my dinner the 100 layer lasagna ... which was really mediocre. Served on a plate with a giant heaping of tomato sauce that tasted just a bit better than ketchup. However the service with outstanding - some of the best I've experienced in the city! Bravo on the service ...

My daughter and I ate here on the 12th, for the 5:30 seating, which was the best we could do in terms of getting a reservation. It was fabulous from the moment we entered. The space is incredibly festive and elegant, but warm and comfortable as well. The service was not only attentive, as one would expect, but also warm and friendly. We had the 5 course prix fix, and each and every item was simply delicious. The amuse bouche, 3 of them, the appetizers (fin fish crude and lobster salad) were all memorable and wonderful. We each ordered a pasta, and were given a bowl of each. The were beyond delicious ...orichette with lamb neck ragout, and the spagetti with crab and jalapeño...

Hello, Me and my 2 dinner companions had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Although we felt a tad under dressed, we were treated with such kindness & respect. We had several questions for the sommelier who was so gracious spending time with us. We absolutely loved the pre-meal amuse bouche & salt cod puff treats. We savored every moment of our pasta and wine. And all of the post-meal complimentary nuggets were excellent companions to our homemade sorbet dessert. This fabulous dining experience was topped of with a surprise tour of the kitchen. What a clean, well-oiled machine, not to mention the smiles and kindness from everyone. We all plan to come again....but next time with our men :) Thank you for everything - Ciao for now!

That lard infused with rosemary LITERALLY changed my life. I don't understand how I lived so long without spreading lard on fresh baked bread before. It was stupid delicious, and now, every day, I wake up disappointed that I am not a baker or meat person who makes lard--because those jobs are clearly the most important for spreading happiness throughout the world.

Seamless Choreography. That describes the table service. With every request, as if the entire wait staff were connected by telepathy, a cascade of waiters and waitresses would descend on the table one by one to fulfill the order. For example, as soon as my wife asked for a specific glass of wine, the head waiter left the table and right behind him a lady arrived with a wine glass, and as soon as she left another gentleman arrived with the specified wine. Perfect choreography! The food was excellent, to say the least--presented in standard gourmet fashion. But what really knocked our socks off was the service.

There's not much to say, everything was top notch. Excellent wine list, they even have a negroni aged in whisky barrels for 6 months I think which is incredible. Don't expect a simple Italian restaurant but this is really at par with the top Italian restaurants like Vissani, Aimo e Nadia; which means very eclectic cusin based on very fresh ingredients and unusual pairings/cooking techniques. You will not walk away full but certainly happy (and poorer).

Probably my favorite restaurant in NYC and I have been to all of the top ones. Del Posto doesn't have the most inventive food or the most modern interior you will find. But what Del Posto does have is impeccable service while very attentive is never stuffy nor condescending like some restaurants have, always top notch good prepared expertly with the best ingredients and a beautiful, elegant and warm interior that makes you feel comfortable. If you like classical roman dishes with a modern twist you will love it. Stopped for our anniversary lunch and had the prix fixe with the pasta supplement, every dish from the "Autumn" salad, to amazing pumpkin ravioli to the eggplant desert were amazing.

We had been to del posto for a few dinners in the past year and were very impressed. When my friends made a trip to nyc i thought this place would impress. Maybe it was our party of ten that was too much to handle but the service was slow. We were seated at 9:00 but menus had not been placed until 9:37, almost 40 minutes later. Overall service was very slow, and they came back to our table a few times to recheck the orders. In the end, I was actually embarassed that I had reccomended this place and wished that I had not taken them here.

We were recomnended Del Posto by a good friend from NYC - he had recently dined there abd felt it is one of the best in the city . We did enjoy our special evening - just two of us . We were welcomed on early arrival and shown directly to our table . What struck us was the large number if staff - we seemed to be surrounded . It took quite some time to get attention or to receive menus . Cocktails ordered and duly arrived - one was incorrect. Another thing that did surprise us was that my partner had to ask for his dinner fork to be replaced when he accidently dropped it on the carpet . We chose the 8 course wine paring menue / all fabulous but would have preferred to be able to choose individually - too much and very pricy .
