A word from Del Campo
The lifestyle and food culture celebrated on an estancia, a large South American vineyard estate, is the inspiration for Victor Albisu’s flagship restaurant in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The airy, 174-seat agrarian space is home to a meat-driven, wine-centric menu that is a product of Albisu’s Latin American roots and travels throughout Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoy Del Campo-service and ambience is great. Server recommended a great red for us. Generally, the food is good (however, shrimp a la plancha was slightly over and squid ink pasta under shrimp was overcooked and lacking in flavor). My fellow diners enjoyed their steaks and the lentil side dish is fantastic-don't miss that side. Gnocchi side was a little doughy-over-garnished, but fine. Perfect for dinner with friends."

  • "An incredibly enjoyable experience. Appitizers were decent, the ribeye for two hit it out of the park! Be prepared for the bone in ribeye. If you're not impressed you're not human!"

  • "My family is heading to Peru in a few weeks so we thought it would be fun to try a South American restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was really good with lots of interesting seasonings. Smoked hollandaisse over grilled asparagus, yum. And the herb smoked rolled wagyu skirt steak, divine. One recommendation...the portion size was large, so large that my husband and I shared it and we still had some left over! We ate outside which was really pleasant. Definitely recommend!"

  • "Del Campo's gimmick is everything is smoked (including the cocktails), but it worked for us. We were meeting someone staying at the nearby Renaissance. It was a beautiful night and we chose to sit outside on the very welcome patio. Grilled octopus salad excellent as was the beet salad and Peruvian chicken. Everything tasted different because of the smoke flavor, including the cheesecake. Not sure if this will make it longterm, but it's certainly worth a try. Go for it."

  • "If you're going for pizza or Happy Hour, make sure you sit at the bar or outside. You can't get anything you want if you get seated at an inside table. Food was good though I really wanted something light. When we ordered a light meal, we were pressured to order more - with an attitude. Can't say I was comfortable and didn't feel like I was welcomed unless we ordered more. So not sure I'd go again."

  • "I was very disappointed because I researched the restuarant and the menu showed lamb. The main reason I came to your restuarant was for the lamb because I don't eat beef. Once I got to the restuarant the server said you didn't have lamb because it is a spring item. I just feel the website should be updated on a regular basis show customers are fully aware of what to expect. I drove almost an hour to eat at this highly recommended restuarant. I will on a brighter note, the service and the servers were great."

  • "This was my second time for lunch and it only gets better. First time I swore I would eat the burnt beet salad again. This time I don't know how I will eat anything other than the salmon ceviche again. Looking forward to finally going for dinner when I can indulge in the Asado."

  • "some of my favorite things, done well. must try the grilled octopus salad. it can get a bit loud so maybe not the best place for a business dinner or large groups interested in intimate conversation."

  • "The best part of the dinner was the service (which was superlative) and the appetizers (grilled octopus and the beet salad). While the beef tongue and marrow were enjoyable (and not common menu items) and the Pasqualina tart was extremely good (though very, very heavy), I wasn't particularly enthralled by the short ribs and none of the dished wowed me. If I worked/were in the area more frequently, I would go back to give the restaurant a second chance, but it's not a place I would go out of my way to visit."

  • "Del Campo was a wonderful find for myself and my girlfriend. The atmosphere is on target; from the host to our waiters, it was a neat experience. The food......... WOW!!! We ordered, by our waiters recommendation, the Tuna ceviche... Excellent; the grilled octopus, Pulpo, Excellent; the Skirt steak roll and two sausages!!! The grilled cauliflower was very tasteful. What a neat place. We are definitely going back!!"

  • "So often one goes to a restaurant that's gotten lots of buzz and is disappointed. Not true here! I'd been eager to try Del Campo and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and our group of seven was well taken care of. We all agreed that we would go back for more!"

  • "Meats are good- expensive, but worth it. Everything else is overpriced (think $10 for 3 pieces of rapini- seriously), wine list mark up much higher than average, etc. I found our server to be pushy on recommendations, rushed taking our order, and then absent when we needed anything. At these prices, I would have liked a more pleasant, well-rounded experience. If meat if your thing, consider a more traditional steakhouse where your money buys you good food AND good service!"

  • "The steaks are succulent and prepared exactly as ordered. The prawns are served in a bed of octopus ink "morcillas." Innovative and delicious! The mango suffle was out if this world!"

  • "Food and service was perfect. Did not like where we were seated. Strange uncomfortable oval banquette on a main corridor. Completely effected our experience. Facing out to corridor and uncomfortable looking at each other. Seat height of booth was too low."

  • "2nd visit. Seated immediately with a reservation, but were there 15 minutes before being greeted by server. Drink order taken after we had been there 30 minutes; meal order taken after 60 minutes and it was not crowded, but may have been understaffed. The entire meal took three hours, most of which were spent waiting on the staff. The food was still very good, esp. empanadas, skirt steak, and pork shank, but the prices are too high. $10 for half a baked potato? $54 for skirt steak? I like the food and luxurious atmosphere at Del Campo, but the prices are too high even relative to high end DC restaurants, particularly when considering the poor quality of the service."

  • "Whether it was because we dined on the night when Argentina was playing Bosnia in the World Cup, everyone at Del Campo seemed to be in the bar watching the game, including the Wait staff. We waited 12 minutes before we were brought the menus and ordered our drinks, another 18 minutes before getting our drinks and ordering our food and it was over an hour before getting our food. When it did come, it was delicious from the two baskets of bread and olive oil we ate while waiting to the scrumptious appetizers to the delectable main course. Another disappointment, the pricey steak, though delicious, did not come on one of their signature grill slabs. Have been to this place before so will try it again for better service."

  • "Attentive wait staff, interesting South American fare but expensive!"

  • "...The prices are outrageous! For their prices, the food has to be excellent, not just good.I think one can go to Fogo de Chao and eat way better for about the same price. What made me give it 4 stars was our waiter. His service was excellent."

  • "Worth a try. We were interested in something different and chose Del Campo for it's unique way of preparing meats. We had the rib eye and the short ribs which were very good. Also added the huge, whole grilled prawn which was nicely chared over the fire. Everything is very smokey including the olive oil and salt. Our waitress Zoe was excellent, very friendly and an expert on the way things were prepared."

  • "My office went for lunch together, since our chief had enjoyed the very reasonably priced lunchtime special and none of us were disappointed with the fare - it was all excellent. I ordered the tuna panini with avocado and asparagus and it was otherworldly good. "

  • "You go here for the drinks for sure! The meats are amazing but expensive, the service was sooooo slow. But the Pisco creations were divine!"

  • "And a charred lemon on my drink. The food, beverage and overall ambiance was awesome. Moreover, the service and attention to detail that the bartender provided while I sat asking questions about the menu items was absolutely first rate. My first visit will not be my last. Can't wait to see what charred fun awaits on my next visit. Cheers."

  • "The food was tasty, but overpriced. The waiter had asked "What sides would you like with your dinner," without being clear that each one cost $10 additional."

  • "This is a great place for fine grilled meats in the Asador style. The entre meats are a bit pricey but have enough meat for 2-4 people. "

  • "My friend invited me for dinner and she asked to meet at Del Campo. It was her third time and my first. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly manager. The decor was beautiful.Love the chandelier! Friendly staff. The server was very professional but a bit "stiff". He was all business. The smoked drinks were wonderful.BUT i have to say the HIGHLIGHT of my experience was THE FOOD!!! Chef Victor Albisu will go far!!AMAZING food absolutely flawless. I will be back! For sure. "

  • "We love so much about this unique restaurant, but our Waiter was rude... when my husband asked about moderate ($40-$50) bottles of wine from the list,he said he could only recommend ones in the $60-$100 range. My husband ordered a $40 bottle. We also ordered 1 large steak to split & 2 sides, knowing portions are large here.)We obviously ruined this young man's night. He smirked & could barely be civil to us.(I am sure a normal tab here is $80-$100 a head) My husband talked to the manager, who was very kind. But this waiter ruined our special time at a lovely restaurant w/ great drinks & food. Don't think we will be back."

  • "Went to Del Campo for the first time for lunch. I had the brisket sandwich with yuca fries, and it was a mound of brisket -- very filling -- for I believe $13. Then, we ordered a side of gnocchi, which was covered in butter, cream, mushrooms, and parmesan -- probably the best gnocchi I've ever had. I'll definitely be back."

  • "The food was very good, but, understandably, meat-centered, as the restaurant's choices focused on the foods of Latin America: the emphasis of the menu seemed to be the meats of Argentina. While there were ceviches, some additional fish choices would have been preferable. Our waiter was helpful, but we would have preferred not to have been queried repeatedly by sundry staff on how we were enjoying our meal. "

  • "Loved the meats i had, the rolled steak and the cilantro covered tuna. 3 desserts were awesome, the s'mores, rhubarb empanadas, and the donuts. The mango crepe souffle wasn't a stand out as much as the others. Side dishes don't really stand against the meat- when they say charred- they mean charred, and the lentils weren't that flavorful for all of the additions. But the meats and desserts are knock outs!"

  • "Had lunch sitting outside on a beautiful day. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was amazing. It was also a great deal. They were running a lunch special of a sandwich and a drink (wine or draft beer) for $12."

  • "I really had a nice dining experience even though the evenig got off to a slow start with a 15 min wait for a cocktail order and another 10 min. wait for them to arrive at the table. That said, the server did stop by and apologized for the wait and brought some special bread that was a step of service which I find worth mentioning. Water was offered in the appropriate time, and the only negative was the time for cocktails cut into the progression of our anniversary dinner. We managed to order appetizers the smoked Wagyu steak tar tar was a home run. The entrees we ordered the Tuna and short ribs were great and just good in that progression. The tuna was the best I have had in awhile and the chef's interpretation of that dish is stellar"

  • "This place is really expensive, which would be OK if the service was outstanding. Instead, we had empty drinks for much of the evening. Our salads arrived before our appetizers. Several of the menu options were not available. We asked to take food home at the end of the meal, but it never reappeared from the kitchen. Our waiter seemed way out of his league and was covering tables on the other side of the restaurant as well as ours, meaning that he was absent most of the night. Other places in town with prices this high offer the same caliber of food with much better service. As I watched my important clients sit with empty drinks, I wished I had chosen differently. The lousy service ruined what should have been a wonderful evening."

  • "Everything is charred or smoked and that's a good thing for the bread, the cheese and especially the vegetables. I could have made a meal on the charred carrots with mint, the cauliflower with raisins and the asparagus with hollandaise. In fact, we should have as the meat was marginal and the sausage dry and inedible. The server had a wonderful personality but it took 20 minutes to get the pisco sour--the restaurant's signature drink. And at 6:30 the place was barely occupied. No amount of charm can make up for tardiness."

  • "private outdoor dining--preferred outdoors to indoors.food was terrific--excellent service. waiters should tell you that the portions are large.2 lb steak knives--they should sell them as a side business. we all ordered the chef specialties--all of us enjoyed the sauces and meats. expensive steak dishes--there were about 8 of them and the least expensive was $49... everything is a la carte but well worth it. would return"

  • "Interesting and stylish menu based on Peruvian and other Latin American cuisines. Lots of dishes you won't see elsewhere in DC. Octopus salad was outstanding--tender & flavorful, not overpowered by smokiness from the grill. It's served as an appetizer, but could easily be a main dish. Service is good, and the space is very modern and elegant. Prices are a little on the high side, but not outrageously so. I recommend leaving the kids at home... please. "
