Diner Reviews
  • "This is a lovely Italian restaurant, just below street level, reminiscent of a time when excellent service and civility were the norm. We had a large group and they accommodated us with a semi-private room. Everything about our dinner there was top notch."

  • "Re-found a favorite place for a nice intimate dinner. Great service and well prepared and presented Italian favorites."

  • "It's a pleasure to find a mid-town restaurant where the service is genuine, the food is very good, and the tables are far enough apart to avoid putting your elbow in your neighbor's soup. Nothing flashy about the menu, but well prepared and served without a rush. An interesting wine list guided by a knowledgeable sommelier. Overall, a very pleasant evening, and I'll return again."

  • "We love NY for all the smaller non chain restaurants. This one definitely did not disappoint. The food was great and the people were very nice. We enjoyed it greatly."

  • "I invited three guests from Japan the dinner, and enjoyed Oyster and crab cake so on, those taste were very fresh and good."

  • "This restaurant is one of our favorites - the understated ambiance is traditional and elegant, the service is top-notch - but it's the food that makes me happy when I think of our many enjoyable evenings there."

  • "So nice to have tables spaced far enough apart to have a conversation! Fresh flowers on the table, delicious butters and bread start the meal. Good choices on the Italian menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the attentive service."

  • "Have gone here a number of times and enjoyed it. Wonderful little out-of-the way neighborhood place. This time I made a reservation for myself and three co-workers, and they have been around, restaurant-wise. They loved it. So, great food and service."

  • "The indifferent receptionist/seater kind of set the mood. Waiters typical NY. Don't feel the warmth unless you are a regular here. Competent but perfunctory. In and out. Didn't feel like lingering, but the food was well prepared. Reasonably priced, especially for midtown Manhattan."

  • "I have been to DeGrezia before so I knew that I would not be disappointed. I went with a friend this time and we both enjoyed it. Great food, great wine, staff very attentive. Not noisy! Would go back again and again."

  • "excellent food and service to match. They will make anything you ask for. The menu is optional"

  • "This review is based on the fact that the restaurant had a party of 50 in the main dining room and we were relegated to the "other" room." It was setup much too crowded. They were trying to have their cake and eat it to so to speak. There were too many tables and the entrance and coatroom were one in the same. Not a great evening. For the prices they charge I expected a lot more. And I don't mean apologizes."

  • "Veal medallions and ravioli were quite good even though the ravioli was a little heavy on the mushrooms. Staff was extremely attentive but not overboard. Ambiance is incredible and prices reasonable. Will definitely go again when opportunity arises."

  • "We went to DeGrazia the other night with a friend who is literally a world traveler. He wants to go to DeGrazia every time he's in NYC. Why? The food is excellent, they offer old European style service, the ambience is elegant, yet relaxed; you feel as if your in someone's home. We don't see our friend often; we spent over 3 hours "catching up". The staff never once made us feel we were taking to much time. They were as gracious as ever. DeGrazia is the kind of restaurant that New York needs more of. JAJ"

  • "The food was great--had a salad and gnocchi that was quite good. Not giving full stars because the vegetarian options are pretty limited. The wine pours were generous. The service was good, but the restaurant removed and replaced the 4th chair at our table (we were a party of 3) a number of times, and that was just distracting. Also, we were seated in the middle of the room and I felt like we were constantly bumped as people went by. Next time I would request a table along the wall."

  • "Old School Italian with especially friendly and attentive staff. The Spinach-Stracchino salad is among the best salads I have ever had. Mushroom ravioli is outstanding as is the Tartufo desert. It's a place where you can relax, eat and talk with your partner."

  • "Went here for dinner New Years Eve and had a fantastic experience. Service was great and the food was excellent from start to finish. The gnocchi with fresh pear was the hit of the table. This is a great neighborhood spot that we will certainly be returning to"

  • "The appetizer of meatballs was overlooked and dry. The carbonara was a light brown color and did not taste like carbonara. Overall food quality was poor. Ambience was very beautiful and welcoming."

  • "DeGrezia is just the kind of place you hope you can find in New York. All the neighbors clearly return again and again. This isn't about being the hottest spot in town but rather delivering a gracious dining experience over and over again. The food is authentic and well-prepared. The service is attentive without being intrusive. If you are in the area and want a good meal and a quiet conversation, this is the place to check out."

  • "A restaurant's success is 50% food and 50% service. On this night, the food was excellent but was spoiled by a bored and inattentive waiter. When we asked for a wine list before ordering our entree, he was clearly annoyed and practically shoved it in my face. Got the feeling he is a long-time employee with a lot of power (in his mind). The Sommelier actually took our dessert order! The rest of the service staff was great. Our meals were terrific - my wife's spinach ravioli was very good. We will consider this an off-night because of our treatment, but will definitely try again."

  • "Degrezia restaurant is in close proximately to our apartment. We've passed it a million times and noted the name but somehow never managed to eat there. What a wonderful neighborhood gem it turned out to be. Old world charm, leisurely dining on great food, and quiet enough to have a conversation. The menu is not as extensive as some other restaurants and the prices are a bit on the high side for pasta but their is an entree to meet everyone's taste and the experience is most satisfying. We sill definitely make it one of our regular haunts."

  • "From the minute my wife, adult son and I walked in on a crowded, snowy, Saturday night until we left almost 2 hours later, we felt welcomed. We did have reservations ( recommended) and were seated immediately. Two very friendly waiters/hosts handled our every request. I had the Sea Bass and my wife and son had the Lobster Ravioli. The deserts were fresh and not store bought. There were a number of Holiday dinner groups that were enjoying the fine wines and the tasting the wonderful food selections ( great menu). And based on the number of couples, it appears to be a wonderful place for date. My compliments to everyone We will be back. Tom"

  • "What impressed us most was that they held our 5pm reservation for us till we got there at 9 o'clock (due to cancelled flights)! Ambience was charming...decorated lovely for the holidays. Upon our server's and another patron's recommendation, we had the Paparella Pasta with Wild Boar and Juniper berries...absolutely delicious! We also had the Spring Mix Salad with Fig vinaigrette which was outstanding as well. Service was excellent and very attentive. We ended our meal with Cappuccino which was a perfect finish! Highly recommend!"

  • "We went with a party of 7 for a celebratory dinner. We were given a lovely almost private table downstairs. Everyone loved their meal and the ambience, which was conducive to conversation. While the wine list was extensive, most were really overpriced. It's an area that could use some refinement. However, overall, except for the cost of the wines, there was good value for the very delicious food. Would definitely recommend."

  • "It was our first time there and they treated us like we were neighbors that came regularly. Great food, well presented, in realistic portions. The servers were in suits. It was like stepping back in time and just added to the experience."

  • "Food was pretty good.. Service was terrible. We were a party of 8 and our waiter never came back to our table after we placed our order until it was time to order dessert. A real disappointment in service!"

  • "A terrific experience all around. We had a large party and had to move the reservation time a number of times - they were very accommodating and not at all perturbed. It was my daughter's birthday and we wanted to have her favorite dessert (lemon torte) served. They didn't offer it but let us have one delivered that they could serve. The service was excellent and the food very, very good. The polenta appetizer was particularly memorable. The location on a quaint, quiet little street out of the hustle is also a plus."

  • "We made a last minute reservation which we had to change to a later time because our flight was late getting in on arrival to NYC. We were totally accommodated us and the food was to die for. Lamb bolagnese was heavenly and the service outstanding."

  • "...Outstanding food and service. One of our very favorite restaurants in NYC. Set below a brownstone, this intimate restaurant doesn't seat many making it a wonderful location for a very special dinner. Wonderful northern Italian food and excellent service will make for a meal that is not soon forgotten!"

  • "The food, service and ambiance here are truly great. Its nice to go to a top notch restaurant where you can actually have a great meal, good wine and talk to the people your with without yelling because of noise! Highly recommend this place whether for a date night, or even a business meeting!"

  • "DeGrezia's is a wonderful Italian restaurant. It's not loud or noisy and the wait staff and owners are wonderful people. Service is always excellent, the food is always wonderful and the fish is fresh."

  • "Always excellent food at DEGREZIA (and isn't that the main concern when one pays to dine?). Whereas the more visible jacketed wait staff have an air of snobbishness that one gets used to after a few visits, the 'help' staff are efficient and almost invisible when clearing plates and pouring water, etc. Our reunion table of four arrived at 7pm and were allowed to sit and gab over cappuccinos and liqueurs until closing time without feeling any pressure to vacate our table. Much appreciated. But don't forget the best reason to visit this 'ristorante'... the food!!"
