"I want to show people the depth of Maumee's food culture and to be able to share and gain new perspectives on the food with them. All of our food is born locally. It's the foundation of what we do."

A true devotee to the local food movement, Native Toledoan and Chef Joseph Jacobsen has been revolutionizing Maumee's & the surrounding areas culinary scene since he took over Degage Jazz Cafe & Fine Dining 4 years ago. He shares his passion for connecting local farmers and consumers with monthly cooking classes, seasonally-changing menu, locally-grown & sources produce, meats & dairy. The International Culinary Institute-alum brings his farm-to-table passion fruition at Degage & diners love the spot's refined blend of locally-grown produce and use of fresh costal seafood as do local foodies.Continued

  • "Incredibly happy with this dining choice. Very cozy and private dining room, vibrant bar scene w/live jazz music. Unusually good menu options for Northwest Ohio, not your average fare! Love that you can glam up on a special occasion, or pop in for pizza on a more casual day. Will be stopping by often! "

  • "I chose Degage for my birthday dinner restaurant because I wanted to try their vegetarian/vegan menu and because I love that they are into choosing local for their ingredients. My husband and I decided that this was by far the best meal we've had in a LONG time (and we eat out a LOT)!! The food was incredible, the service as fantastic, and the jazz entertainment was terrific! We will definitely be back soon, and be spreading the word on what a great place Degage is!! (Also, they offer the best deal on your birthday that I've ever seen!)"

  • "It was our first time. The experience wasn't bad. Spinach Artichoke was really good. So was the French Onion soup. But not exactly fond of my salad. The wild greens not my favorite and wasn't cold. When I go to a nice hunger priced restaurant I really thought the ribs would fall off the bone. But my husband had to cut them. They were still good just disappointed. Service was good."

  • "My husband and I visited dégagé for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. The service and food were outstanding!! We tried the sampler platter, asparagus soup, seared tuna entree and salmon entree. I ordered the tuna and it was absolutely delicious! One of the most remarkable meals I've ever had! I have a new favorite restaurant!"

  • "We heard through friends to make reservations on Fridays and Saturdays. Great menu, great music, and great drinks! One of the best places to have a high quality dining experiance in the Toledo area!"

  • "Great food, good service. Martinis to die for!!!! The music was wonderful. Definitely will go back."

  • "We celebrated a dear friends birthday. Not only was the service exceptional, but the food outstanding. Three out of the four attending are excellent cooks in their own right. So, the evening couldn't have been better."

  • "The DeGage has excellent live locally grown jazz and a cuisine focused on locally grown food in a restored 19th century commercial building overlooking the river. It is a can't miss place for a long slow meal to celebrate or get away from stress. We will be going back regularly. But I recommend using Open Table for a reservation, especially on weekends, this place has a lot of loyal patrons."

  • "A mixture of great food and entertainment! Our out of town guest loved the food, wine and the fantastic piano player! Best duck my husband ever had!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, we ordered a filet minion salad, and the "hot mess" and it was fantastic. We also ordered a few oysters and they were average. The ambiance of the place was wonderful and the band that was playing was very good. The only thing that I didn't like about the place is that they add a $6 charge per person to your bill for sitting in the jazz room, which isn't even that bad."

  • "I would never go back here. The service was the worst I have ever had! The food was decent at best. They were out of so many things on the menu. For the price of the dinner I expected great food and great service. It took over 20 minutes to put in a drink order. Then we had to go find our waitress to put in an appetizer."

  • "First timer and I was looking forward to new spot. The menu was a bit confusing and hard to read, but the entrees were good. I feel that they should concentrate on fewer items on the menu and knock the top sellers out of the park."

  • "Went there for the first time and enjoyed the experience. Had a nice bottle of wine with our meal (Louis LaTour Pinot Noir) and it was a pleasant tasting moderately dry wine. It went well with the filet mignon that my wife and I both had. The meat was cooked perfectly and was delicious! We will definitely go back again."

  • "We went for New Year's Eve dinner, and found out when we got there that it was a buffet special for the evening. The food was good (prime rib, crab legs, bacon on a stick), but some of it would have been better not on a buffet. It was also very expensive. I was looking at some of the flyers for other special events and they all seemed a little overpriced to me. The service was wonderful, not just our waiter, Kayle, but everyone from the valet to the guy serving the prime rib. I wouldn't mind going back sometime to try the regular menu, but probably not without a coupon."

  • "We were fortunate enough to find their wild game and wine pairing special event dinner and we were blown away at the attention to detail with the eclectic food and great wine pairings. This place is unique and offers things such as bacon jam (awesome) and for the event we attended, we got to try wild rabbit sausage, duck confit, many local ingredients and the list goes on and on. This place is a definite local gem and I recommend checking this place out ASAP."

  • "The music was nice and I was excited to see a separate menu for vegetarian and vegan dishes. However, the food... not so good. We won't be going back for the food but may go back for the nice jazz bands."

  • "This was my first time and overall I enjoyed it. The jazz music provided a fun, hip atmosphere. I ordered the pork belly and did not like it, but the wait staff was quick to take it back and provide me with another option. It was much better! I appreciated the responsiveness. Also my pumpkin cheesecake dessert was yummy! I would definitely go back again."
