A true devotee to the local food movement, Native Toledoan and Chef Joseph Jacobsen has been revolutionizing Maumee's & the surrounding areas culinary scene since he took over Degage Jazz Cafe & Fine Dining 4 years ago. He shares his passion for connecting local farmers and consumers with monthly cooking classes, seasonally-changing menu, locally-grown & sources produce, meats & dairy.   • "Though porterhouse and duck were sold out from pervious night, just fine. If closed on Sun-Mon i can see not bringing local meats for table service on Sat night. But still.... Our app was great, hot and delicious artichoke conncotion. But explain underwhelming bread and toasted one side. We needed crispy. Its a Toledo area thing. No good artisnal bread in restaurants, in my view. Ribs good and tasty. Drinks generous, risotto was a huge hit. House salads...well house salad. Seemed fresh."

  • "As this was my first time at Degage I really didn't know what to expect. Upon entering the building I was immediately impressed with its' decor & felt comfortable. I was with three other people & we all ordered different selections for dinner so I had the opportunity to see other entrees. From the appetizers right through to the end, all of the food was delicious, different & exceeded my expectations. As we were seated in the dining area without the music, we could hear it & yet still converse with each other. I would recommend this restaurant & hopefully return in the future."

  • "My husband and I recently went to Dégagé for the first time and were very pleased. The restaurant is definitely well managed. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and accommodating. It was my husband's birthday and since we aren't eating desserts they gave us a free appetizer. The food was tasty and I appreciated the vegan/GF menu since I don't eat dairy or bread right now. The ambiance was exceptional on both the little outdoor patio and inside the bar. The music is a little loud for the size of the place but not unpleasant. Good mucians, we enjoyed watching/listening. I have already recommend the place to family members. It goes without saying we will definitely be back!"

  • "We were wowed from the first bite of food at Degage Jazz Cafe and Fine Dining! If you are a first time guest, they give you a 'taste' from the chef free of charge. The appetizer we enjoyed was amazing and our entrees were unbelievable. The jazz music was good but a little loud at times. Overall we loved our experience and recommended it to all who we thought might be interested! If you've never been here and live in the greater Toledo area you should treat yourself and check it out!"

  • "Our first visit here was far from a success. We heard some good things about the restaurant and were very excited to try it... Well, we probably won't ever return. The service was AWFUL!! We waited over 15min just for server to show up with water. She took another 20min to bring us our cocktail order. After she gave us our drinks, she walked away. She NEVER took our dinner order. We had to chase her down to order!! Our food came out rather quickly, and we were not impressed. For all the cute names on the menu- the food was blah. Mediocre at best. Spend your money somewhere else. There is no point in paying a $6 cover charge to eat at a place that doesn't want to take your order. "

We could hear the live jazz but could still carry on a conversation. the smoked salmon appetizer was superb. the drinks were in very small glasses and skimpy on liquor--a disappointment. the bread and flavored butter were were superb. service was a bit spotty but they were very busy!   • "If you book ahead specifically to hear the Jazz and mention that fact when the restaurant calls to confirm the reservation, you expect to be in the room where the jazz is played. We were put in a back room, away from the jazz and could only hear the bass beat . When we told our waitress about this she told the manager. The speaker in our room was turned up! The seats in the jazz area never did materialize. The special memories from a previous visit were not recreated and I doubt we shall go to Degage again."

  • "From the outside view to the time you get in and leave, EVERYTHING is quality!!! Especially the food. Everything fresh, the meats are all quality, no antibiotics, no steroids, animals are fed what they NORMALLY eat, (grass)... Not grain. Drinks were great! Service was decent... Maybe a little too enthusiastic, but hey... Just means they were trying to do the right thing. The prices were extremely affordable! There was two of us. We both had full meals, appetizers and drinks and bill was 64 bucks. You can't do better than that, for how upscale this place is."

  • "I booked a reservation for my family to celebrate my graduation from UT. I didn't specify anything special for the res other than "table for 6." We were all incredibly surprised when the hostess took us to the private table in the wine room! Needless to say the ambience of the room impressed my grandparents very much. The food elevated the whole experience to the next level. The mussels app was delicious and all of the entrees were superb. The beer selection was great and the key lime pie was the perfect ending to the meal! The group playing music that night was great as well. In two weeks, my family is going to my brother's graduation in Virginia and after this meal he has some big shoes to fill! Highly recommend this to everyone!"

  • "This was our third dinner at Dégagé. The menu has changed each time so it is difficult to anticipate a speciality item or meal. The music, which begins at 7:00 makes this a great place to dine. We dined early before a show and sat in a booth in another area of the restaurant - less atmosphere in this section. The menu has a lot of Duck entrees as well as pork. Sandwiches and drinks would probably be excellent choices. Pig Wings were good, tender and served with barbecue sauce - who said pigs couldn't fly!"

  • "Didn't do a great deal of research prior to stopping but was overjoyed to discover that the menu is locally sourced. A great many choices. excellent meal from appetizers to dessert, each course was better than the next. Servers take their time, if your'e in a rush keep this in mind. The only fault I can find, it wasn't clear which sides came with some of the dishes. When you order, ask, otherwise you might ala carte sides that you were already getting. Overall wonderful experience and so nice to see a jazz club still alive and well after so many others have closed. "

  • "My husband and I each ordered fish. I ordered the walleye. It was delicious. However, there were only 2 small pieces. It was on a HUGE bed of mash potatoes. I would have rather had it on spinach, as I don't eat potatoes. I forgot to ask them if there was an alternative to the potatoes. My husband ordered the bourbon salmon with orzo. It was delicious and the size of the salmon was adequate. The asparagus that came with each dish was delightful and tasty. The caprese salad with the reduced balsamic glaze was amazing. I will definitely come back again. The jazz in the background made the evening perfect. Thank you!"

  • "I chose Degage for my birthday dinner restaurant because I wanted to try their vegetarian/vegan menu and because I love that they are into choosing local for their ingredients. My husband and I decided that this was by far the best meal we've had in a LONG time (and we eat out a LOT)!! The food was incredible, the service as fantastic, and the jazz entertainment was terrific! We will definitely be back soon, and be spreading the word on what a great place Degage is!! (Also, they offer the best deal on your birthday that I've ever seen!)"

  • "It was our first time. The experience wasn't bad. Spinach Artichoke was really good. So was the French Onion soup. But not exactly fond of my salad. The wild greens not my favorite and wasn't cold. When I go to a nice hunger priced restaurant I really thought the ribs would fall off the bone. But my husband had to cut them. They were still good just disappointed. Service was good."

  • "The DeGage has excellent live locally grown jazz and a cuisine focused on locally grown food in a restored 19th century commercial building overlooking the river. It is a can't miss place for a long slow meal to celebrate or get away from stress. We will be going back regularly. But I recommend using Open Table for a reservation, especially on weekends, this place has a lot of loyal patrons."
