  • "We actually drove from our workplace outside Wilmington for lunch, so we had to pay for parking. Restaurant week brought us there. The clam chowder was excellent, the wild salmon was a little overcooked. All in all worth the trip."

  • "Just a nice quiet spot with great ambience! I had the NY Strip special and must say it was just simply fantastic. We will definitely return."

  • "This restaurant has nose-dived. It used to be vibrant, clean with an extensive and interesting seafood menu. On our visit, it was smelly (as if the kitchen exhaust was not working), dingy, half empty and the menu was limited and uninteresting. Service was passable, although the staff were hardly pressed. The food itself was edible, nothing special. We shall not be visiting again, which is a pity as it used to serve quality food. Feels like it has been "dumbed down" and clothes smelt like we had been in a fish and chip shop upon exiting. Bar was noisy with TV - not my scene. Sorry Deep Blue."

  • "We had reservations at Deep Blue prior to a show at the DuPont Theatre. Unfortunately, we waited 35 minutes before getting our food. On a positive note, the food and drinks were very good. Definitely worth a trip back but not on a theatre night."

  • "When I/we go to Deep Blue we know the seafood will be fresh and well prepared. Wait staff are attentive and interact charmingly."

  • "Great location in Wilmington with a wonderful menu. Always a nice place for dinner. Excellent service made the evening also very nice."

  • "Dined at Deep Blue before going to DuPont Theatre 7:30 show. You need to be patient on theatre night because everyone is there to eat and leave at the same time. Server was rushed but I knew that going in. Better to have a 5:30 reservation or eat somewhere else."

  • "Located across the street from the Playhouse and has a pre-theater menu that assures a nice dinner and no rush to the theater. Focus is on seafood as would be expected. Nice wine list. Always reliable and consistent."

  • "We are food snobs, for sure. Don't eat out often because we are both good cooks. Hadn't been to Deep Blue in years and were positively thrilled with our meals! Will probably now be our go-to place before going to a show at the Grand … it was an easy and pleasant walk after dinner."

  • "We chose the three course lobster menu-which is a recurring theme, but different menu. This Saturday was particularly outstanding- The Lobster Bisque soup was delicious-full of bits of lobster. The second course of lobster strudel was an interesting take on the presentation, and equally fabulous. And to be frank, I could have stopped there and saved the main course for another day! The main course, the beautiful lobster tail presented on spinach and tomatoes and potato/cheese triangles, was perfect, too. I felt guilty eating so much good good at one sitting. Hubby and I don't usually agree 100% on a meal, but this one (and the last time we chose lobster nite at Deep Blue) we were both blown away by the menu."

  • "Business trip to WIlmington...checked Yelp and found Deep Blue Bar & Grill. Ratings were solid, not amazing, so we tried it. The food was very good, and it was a Monday night, so a quiet atmosphere, not very crowded, and thus very attentive service. We had the calamari frito -- very light and tasty, and an arugula salad that was thankfully not overdressed and very fresh. Entrees included crab cakes -- loaded with crab, crab, crab; the tuna steak and the seared scallops. All entrees were done very well, and all were very tender, not overcooked. I would recommend it."

  • "While we have been here before we probably won't return. We only did on Saturday because we were going to a show and this was the only reservation available. The menu is limited and food ok, not great. Prices high for what you get. Much better places in the area. Book early if going to a show as they get filled up fast."

  • "Did the happy hour at 5 and had a good time staff was very attentive, transitioned to dinner and wait staff was excellent he made good recommendations meal came out quick and was very good. We always do this restaurant before going to see a play."

  • "Overall I was pleasantly surprised. Nice ambiance although tables for 2 were very close together. The good was pretty good except for the crab stuffed mushrooms. They were small and burnt. Besides that the filet, crab cake and lobster were delicious. Good wine list. And excellent port wine list."

  • "The food was great. Started with raw oysters, then ordered Scallops with a side of chorizo mashed potatoes and bacon brussel sprouts. All dishes were delicious and well prepared. The Service was another story. Waiter didn't come by much to check on us, forgot to bring us our drinks, and brought the wrong dish. He seemed very distracted. Hope he was just having an off day. I'm willing to go back one more time and hope that the service is better. If it is consistently like this, I would not return."

  • "I go to Deep Blue a couple of times a year, usually for happy hour or with a group of friends before going to the theater. This time it was for a pre-theater dinner with friends. We really loved the updated theater menu. The food was fantastic and its a real bargain. Three courses for $35. Our waitress, Kim, was very friendly and accomodating and helped make our meal an enjoyable one."

  • "This was a better than average seafood place, but the wine list was nothing special, and the menu was uninspiring. But a well prepared piece of fish. I would go again."

  • "We had a fabulous meal, as usual. Deep Blue has one of the best prix fixe menus we've ever sampled. Wine list is well researched and extensive. Each dish was a star in its own right."

  • "This is the third or fourth time that I have been to Deep Blue before a speaker at the DuPont Theater. This time there were five women and we each ordered from the pre-theater menu. The service was spot on. The food was creative and delicious. We never felt rushed, only very well taken care of and we got to the theater in plenty of time. We keep going back because we are always very happy with every aspect of the experience."

  • "We started out well with soups and oysters we both liked. However, the rest of the meal was fair to poor. They served a very burnt quesadilla to my wife, burnt side down. Really! How hard is it to "cook" a quesadilla? And, what "chef" serves burnt food trying to hide it from their customer? The waitress did remove it from our bill after we pointed it out to her. My lobster spring roll was not a spring roll. It had some yellow mush in it with minuscule pieces of lobster. Very uninspired! There is also a nice selection of 375 ml wine. However, we will not be going back."

  • "Got Chef Dan Butler's email about the 3 course "Lobster Friday" special so drove down to Wilmington to Ty. Dining oom was only 1/3 full on a Friday night, but had one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Our server, Chris , was excllent as was eer single bit of our meal. Nice wine list, fairly priced. food served piping hot, and timing was excellent. The shrimp and grits "sharing plate" was large enough to be a meal f it's own. Highly reccommede, I will go back."

  • "I really like Deep Blue. It's a fish place and, indeed, the fish is very good and imaginatively prepared. I had a swordfish steak that was grilled to my liking- medium--and it was both juicy and full of flavor. Thinking about it right now (a couple of days later) makes my mouth water! The fried calamari was very good but needed a little lemon, which I requested and quickly got. Portions were the right size but I didn't have room for dessert, though the dessert menu looked wonderful. Our server was attentive and helpful and had a nice sense of humor. His wine recommendation was very good."

  • "Very familiar with Wilmington and have heard of this restaurant for years. Based on Open Table reviews it was my 2nd choice because my 1st choice was booked. We arrived at 7 on a Friday night it was nearly deserted. The service was good but the food was just okay. My "grilled" tuna wasn't grilled and was terrible. The crab risotto that accompanied it did have a lot of crab but was so sodden with heavy cream sauce it jut killed it. The other members of our party had crab cakes and seemed to be pleased, but my fiancée was underwhelmed with salmon dish. The homeless guy pressing his face against the window for 15 minutes just on the other side f the window next to me and my friend was disconcerting and unappetizing. Not going here again."

  • "host was gracious and quick to seat us. there was a large private party in the rear dining room so service was slowed a bit, but understandable. food was quite good. blue dusted calamari was delicious but the sauce drizzled over it was the real star."

  • "We have alwatys had great meals here, but, unfortunately, the service has always put a damper on the outing. Our server was very stoic and when encouraged to "lighten up" we were told he had been doing this for 25 years and knew what he was doing...which would have been OK if our drink orders came as ordered and soup wasn't served after having been sitting a while , barely warm with a film on top."

  • "My wife and I both had the three course dinners, along with a 1/2bottle of wine. She had the lobster tail, and I had the crab cakes. Both were excellent. The dinner salads were good, nothing exceptional. And desserts were good also. Overall a real good meal"

  • "Reservation process smooth and were seated promptly. On dish had apparently sat under warming lights too long. The fish was dried out and Luke warm. My scallops did not have a robust flavor. The scallops and sauce were quite bland. A little loud due to open dining area. Friendly and helpful staff. I will try other local restaurants."

  • "I have been here twice prior to going to the Theater at the DuPont Hotel and had trouble making the show on time due to slow service. The restaurant was very busy both times, but clearly the number of wait staff was insufficient to handle the number of people. The second time was worse than the first, so I don't think I will be going here again if I have to make a show."
    Dined on 12/4/2013
  • "Not a great experience. My Salad was good but the shrimp were way over cooked. The four people I was with said their food was not good at all. Waiter had a very bad time trying to get the computer to work at tab time. SR"

  • "The restaurant had been having trouble with their heat for three days. We arrive for our dinner on Friday evening and the temperature in the restaurant was roughly 55 degrees. Everyone who decided to stay had coats on. If it were not for being a Friday evening and fear of not getting another spot in town, we would have left. Since they had our phone number with the reservation, there was no excuse for not calling to advise of the adverse conditions. They offered no discounts, no free drink or warm soup to offset the conditions. The food was greasy and major disappointment, too. I will not go back."

  • "We had an excellent meal at Deep Blue. The fresh oysters were great, and there was a nice variety available. The main courses were all very good, and not limited to fish. Our waiter was attentive and friendly without over-doing it. The only complaint was that it was freezing in the dining room - the maitre d' even warned me to keep my wrap when we were seated. It is a big, open space so maybe it is difficult to heat, but trying to eat with a wrap on was a little awkward. This is a minor thing, but I think it could be fixed? In any event, we will go back for the food ( and maybe dress warmly!! :) ."

  • "My wife had the tuna and was well pleased. I ordered the duck and was disappointed. The meat was tasty and the sauce was very nice, but none of the fat was rendered and the skin was not at all crispy. Maybe my expectations were out of line, but I was nevertheless disappointed. The service was attentive and pleasant. Dessert (pear tart) was very nice. I would go again, but would probably never again order the duck."

  • "No heat upon arrival. Dining wearing my overcoat was not my idea of a good experience. The server tried very hard to make it work, but couldn't overcome the temperature or the pedestrian food. We won't be back."

  • "Deep Blue has much to offer, great food and service, plus a wine list to rival restaurants in much bigger cities. Started with the Calamari, which was done with a blue cornmeal dusting. Different, but delicious. I had the Surf and Turf; a unique combination of braised short rib, shrimp wrapped in shredded phyllo pastry then deep fried, all on top of a blue cheese polenta. Absolutely wonderful dish. My wife ordered the roasted duck breast with pumpkin spaetzle. The duck was cooked perfectly, but the taste of the spaetzle was overcome with apple and lacked much of the flavor of pumpkin. Funny, we both walked in knowing we were going to order one of their fish dinners, but were both drawn to non-seafood dishes. I guess we need to go back!"
