Diner Reviews
  • "We have been dining here for years and it is never a disappointment. Top quality and great service..."

  • "Service was fantastic and we were always served with a genuine smile. They comped our 1st round of drinks and gave us chocolate truffles with the check to help celebrate our occasion, which was a very nice thoughtful touch. The squash ravioli was overpriced for the portion as well as the somewhat bland presentation. The steak tartare was much better. Our split salmon entree was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and the mustard crust made for one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant being open to a lobby in the hotel, however it wasn't much of a mood setter with the bright lights. Overall, great experience, but I would probably leave it at a one time experience."

  • "First, the city view from the bar is terrific. Because of bad weather, we were not able to walk on the outdoor bar area. The service was outstanding. We had a waiter that was absolutely charming and attentive! And the food was just incredible. I had the rack of lamb and my friend had the salmon. Both were very delicious. I would definitely come back again."

  • "What a wonderful dining experience! My wife and I recommend the French Onion soup as an appetizer. As far as entrees, my wife had the mustard crusted salmon and I had the scallops, with both of us having the sautéed baby spinach as a side. In one word, it was all "scrumptious." If you are ever in the Chicago area, especially, if you are staying at the Ritz-Carlton, for an excellent Chicago dining experience, you need to go no further than the 12-floor lobby at the Ritz-Carlton."

  • "Great for romantic dinner. My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday dinner and the place has great ambience and great service."

  • "The lamb shank, featured on Thursdays was melt-in-your-mouth tender and delicious. The 10 layer chocolate cake is a good reason to go as well,"

  • "We enjoyed our evening dinner at Deca. Great suggestions from our waiter. The onion soup was a generous portion and not salty, just as we like it and piping hot! The filet mignon was tender and appetizingly served. The chocolate cake dessert was to die for! Ambience was beautiful at the Ritz!"

  • "The food quality was not up to par for an establishment of this caliber. All dishes were bland and uninspired. I was not aware it was possible to remove all flavor from foie gras."

  • "Wonderful for dinner, deca is also great for lunch. Terrific salads; try the Lyonnaise or the deca, add shrimp, chicken, or beef if you want something more substantial. Excellent fish choices, great sandwiches, outstanding service!"

  • "Deca was an OK experience. The food was tasty (although not really terrific). In addition, the prices resemble fine dining which is simply not consistent with a brasserie that is located in the lobby of a hotel. For example, my lamb was $34, desserts are $9, coffee is $5 and soup was $12. Also, I felt like the menu was very difficult. There was not one salad that truly sounded interesting and the only non fruit dessert was a 10 layer chocolate cake."

  • "We were seated in a semi-private room with one other table of about 12 people (it felt like they had a private room and we were intruding). We booked our reservation well in advance so not sure why were not seated in main area. Our waiter first came to our table after about 20 minutes but never showed up again. We went to manager and asked for a new waiter or at least a beacon to let him know we still existed. We had an asst mgr as our server rest of night and it was clear that she was trying but lacked server skills. Food was ok but way over-priced. The final kicker was the inability of the valet to locate our car. We will not be returning to this restaurant and will not recommend to others."

  • "The food and service are consistent, the menu changes for the season are welcomed. We had the scallop carpaccio to start, and it was a beautifully constructed dish with a delicious sauce, followed by the superb trout served amandine with green beans, all complemented by a wonderful Sancerre available by the glass. My only quibble is the berries served with the excellent mango sorbet were a little underripe. Personable server made it fun too. Not just for hotel guests-if you live in the area, it's a great choice."

  • "Service good, food choice limited , buffet style very limited choices."

  • "Delicious food at reasonable prices (for a Bib Gourmand list member). Try the Saturday beef bourgignon. Exquisite service."

  • "The service here was impeccable, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the foie gras and the scallops."

  • "Just fair hotel experience. Not excellent or prpoportionate to the price or reputation of Ritz Carlton. Won't go back for a long time. Service not prompt. Could be more creative on menu. Subdued atmosphere is fine, but it is really boring. Must do something to spice up the atmosphere without losing the soft feeling. THough not crazy expenvie, I would spend my hotel dining money elsewhere - Godfrey...?"

  • "While the food was very good (scallops, steak frites, salmon, deca salad) the pricing was much too high. The restaurant seemed to play off being at the Ritz, but it was essentially in the large lobby area and felt like any hotel restaurant in ambiance. A glass of wine was $16, and that was for a wine that was $9.99 a bottle at Binny's. With so many amazing restaurants in Chicago, there's no reason to pay that much for a name. The desserts were just OK (chocolate cake; profiteroles). Service was friendly but spotty. Even though only two other tables were filled, we were looking for wait staff. While I'd love to have the main dishes again, they're pricing esp. for cocktails is prohibitive given the ambiance and service."

  • "Went there yesterday for brunch with some friends. Food tasted good, but not great. Same with the service. In fact, our waiter kept coming to take our plates away even though we weren't done. The restaurant itself is in the Ritz lobby, it doesn't have its own place so kind of feels like eating breakfast at a chain hotel, except the fountain is nicer. Being the Ritz, we had expected more. Overall experience was underwhelming. "

  • "Wonderful, tasty dining experience each time we ate there! The Wagyu beef burger was out of this world!!!"
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Service was excellent! The food was overcooked. It seemed to be taking longer than it should've with a mostly empty restaurant and when the food came out I could see why. Steak and Bass were both overcooked."

  • "I had a reservation with a business colleague at Deca but found out that the Ritz had opened their out door Dec restaurant so we opted to sit there. What an amazing experience....this really is The Ritz in 2014.... Lovely menu....delightful service! So much fun sitting perched over the Gold Coast!"

  • "The ambience is wonderful. The food is creative and delicious. The service is great. The wine list is excellent."

  • "Seriously bad service, and mediocre food. Extremely disappointing, especially for a Ritz-Carlton. With a confirmed reservation, we waited 20 minutes for a table. Then another 30 minutes for orders to be taken, and then only after we made a request to the hostess, and close to an hour before food arrived, although one of our party of 4 was served his entree almost 10 minutes before anyone else's arrived. Mostly tepid when it came. It took almost 2 hours in total, and when we were ready to leave, I actually had to get up from the table to find someone to get us a check. I was entertaining people who are special to me, and I was embarrassed."

  • "The food was good..I had the Saturday special of bouf bourguignon and my husband had the fillet. Both were good but the fillet was better."

  • "My experience at Deca was interesting. The food was good but the service by our waiter was pathetic. I expected much better service. The waiter appeared rushed. He did not take the time to answer our questions on the menu. When asked for recommendations, he would give only one option etc., etc. I don't believe I'll be back. "

  • "In the lobby of a very elegant hotel, the service, menu and food quality was first rate. You won't be comfortable in very casual attire, so leave the cutoffs at home. 95% of the men that were in the vicinity were wearing a jacket. A very nice atmosphere, a somewhat straight forward but not necessarily simple menu and perfect service made this an easy and enjoyable ride. It is fun to see classics like steak tartare and foie gras on the appetizer list."

  • "The ambience and food were both stellar. I was able to hear our conversation. The staff were friendly and prompt. Would definitely return. "

  • "We ate at several of Chicago's fine restaurant's over our 3 night stay, this was by far the nicest meal. We were celebrating a 40th & 50th Birthday and had flown in from Florida and the UK, there were 8 in our party we were seated promptly (a fist on this trip) The service was excellent but the food was outstanding all of members of the party receiving exactly what we ordered and cooked to perfection (another first on this trip) our waiter was attentive knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely return to the Ritz and eat at Deca without a moments hesitation. "

  • "My partner and I went there for breakfast to celebrate our wedding day. The meal was outstanding and the service was extra special. They went above and beyond to help us celebrate our big day!"

  • "My sister and I went there for a lunch date while shopping at Water Tower Place and we both raved about two different soups. But our salads were pretty plain even though expensive, and the menu is fairly limited so even though it is very close to shopping, I doubt we will return."

  • "We went for a Sunday brunch, high price tag on an average buffet ! "

  • " Definitely nothing like it. An experience trying this culinary creation. Side if lobster Mac and cheese actually could've been cheesier. Loved the ham in the sandwich but could've done without the foie gras. Went the Saturday before Easter for lunch and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. Service was excellent. Chef came out and sprinkled truffle shavings on our sandwich. Also surprised us with a delicious 10 layer chocolate cake. He checked in with us 3 times. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. "

  • "I highly recommend the foie gras. Deca also is very accommodating to those who are gluten intolerant."

  • "Service was abysmal. We were dining on what one would expect to be a slower evening (Sunday night), and yet it took over 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive (seared foie and country pate... neither of which should take long to prepare). Then, after our plates were cleared, it took another 45 minutes at least for the entree to appear. We were unable to get anyone's attention, and had to request repeatedly for things as basic as water or bread. To top it all off, the check they brought was flagrantly incorrect, and the survey form that the check was brought in was already pre-filled as saying that they supposedly done a great job. Not worth the time, not worth the money, will absolutely not be back for dinner."

  • "Deca Restaurant integrates beautifully into the 12th floor lobby of the Ritz-Carlton, in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink in the bar, visible from the restaurant, but physically separated. On Friday night there was a combo playing music that, due to the vaulted lobby ceiling and good acoustics, could be heard from both spaces. In the restaurant the music served as unobtrusive background music. This truly gives the diner a "big city" experience. We were greeted by knowledgeable staff who set the tone for the dining experience. The servers were great and attentive. The meal was very well paced, the salad and dessert rated an excellent, the salmon was a hit, the filet just average. We'll be back!"

  • "Although, we didn't stay at the hotel, we live in Chicago, we chose to dine at the restaurant. Wonderful choice, too. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. When we weren't sure of an option the staff were not mistake in their suggestions! For dessert they have that amazing chocolate cake and the lemon tart was just a excellent. Great experience and we are sure to return!"

  • "Our dinners were quite tasty, and nicely presented. Service was friendly. Unfortunately there were a group of small children running around loose...with no apparent, parental supervision, that made the evening less than idyllic. It is a grown up restaurant, in a grown up space...and to be made felt as though you were in "Romper Room" put a damper on the otherwise nice evening."

  • "Everything that we had eaten was delicious and presented well. The ambiance from the lighting to sound of the water from the fountain was relaxing and delightful. Can't wait to come back on a Sunday night and try the Dover sole and enjoy the outdoor patio!"

  • "Came here because I had a groupon. Place received decent reviews so I thought I would try it out. Hostess took the groupon before we were seated, which I thought was classy. Sat next to an older couple that we found out also had a groupon (restaurants put coupon holders together). French waiter was kind and professional, though he apologized for not coming to our table sooner due to allergies. Ordered frog legs, my first time. I felt there was not much meat on it so will not order again. I ordered the salmon which was delicious, and chocolate cake, which was massive. I joked to my partner that all the other tables got bread except us and the couple next to us. Immediately after, bread was brought to us. I think our table was miked."
