Diner Reviews
  • "Food and drinks are amazing, at the bar they have a pear and Rosemary drink that is to die for! The food and service were incredible as usual, I cannot wait to go back!!"

  • "I highly recommend the foie gras. Deca also is very accommodating to those who are gluten intolerant."

  • "Our dinners were quite tasty, and nicely presented. Service was friendly. Unfortunately there were a group of small children running around loose...with no apparent, parental supervision, that made the evening less than idyllic. It is a grown up restaurant, in a grown up space...and to be made felt as though you were in "Romper Room" put a damper on the otherwise nice evening."

  • "Service was abysmal. We were dining on what one would expect to be a slower evening (Sunday night), and yet it took over 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive (seared foie and country pate... neither of which should take long to prepare). Then, after our plates were cleared, it took another 45 minutes at least for the entree to appear. We were unable to get anyone's attention, and had to request repeatedly for things as basic as water or bread. To top it all off, the check they brought was flagrantly incorrect, and the survey form that the check was brought in was already pre-filled as saying that they supposedly done a great job. Not worth the time, not worth the money, will absolutely not be back for dinner."

  • "Although, we didn't stay at the hotel, we live in Chicago, we chose to dine at the restaurant. Wonderful choice, too. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. When we weren't sure of an option the staff were not mistake in their suggestions! For dessert they have that amazing chocolate cake and the lemon tart was just a excellent. Great experience and we are sure to return!"

  • "Deca Restaurant integrates beautifully into the 12th floor lobby of the Ritz-Carlton, in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink in the bar, visible from the restaurant, but physically separated. On Friday night there was a combo playing music that, due to the vaulted lobby ceiling and good acoustics, could be heard from both spaces. In the restaurant the music served as unobtrusive background music. This truly gives the diner a "big city" experience. We were greeted by knowledgeable staff who set the tone for the dining experience. The servers were great and attentive. The meal was very well paced, the salad and dessert rated an excellent, the salmon was a hit, the filet just average. We'll be back!"

  • "Everything that we had eaten was delicious and presented well. The ambiance from the lighting to sound of the water from the fountain was relaxing and delightful. Can't wait to come back on a Sunday night and try the Dover sole and enjoy the outdoor patio!"

  • "Went with a friend, we had the Deca salad as a starter, then she had the filet mignon and I had the lamb. We finished with the profiteroles. The food is not outstanding, actually sort of boring. Meat was good quality, but well, I'd be surprised if it weren't. It's the Ritz Carlton after all. The cocktails at the beginning were okay. The salad has a nice truffle touch but they use iceberg lettuce, that is tasteless and cheap. My lamb had an unedible radish crust and my friend's filet was a bit burnt. The dessert was okay but overall, nothing to remember."

  • "Came here because I had a groupon. Place received decent reviews so I thought I would try it out. Hostess took the groupon before we were seated, which I thought was classy. Sat next to an older couple that we found out also had a groupon (restaurants put coupon holders together). French waiter was kind and professional, though he apologized for not coming to our table sooner due to allergies. Ordered frog legs, my first time. I felt there was not much meat on it so will not order again. I ordered the salmon which was delicious, and chocolate cake, which was massive. I joked to my partner that all the other tables got bread except us and the couple next to us. Immediately after, bread was brought to us. I think our table was miked."

  • "Food great, our server was great, only one problem we have food was coming very slow. we didn't complain, we had great time chatting with friends, and what a surprise when chef sent us bottle of wine for apologizing. On the end we loved it, and we are coming back soon."

  • "Wait staff provided friendly, attentive, professional service. Food was very good although menu was not particularly inventive. Would have appreciated some dishes with a more health conscious preparation."

  • "We had a nice, quiet dinner at Deca. The service was outstanding and the table and food presentation was perfect. This spot is a hidden spot usually frequented by tourists staying at the Ritz, so the crowd is a mix of casual and dressy patrons. The food was good, but my fish was overcooked as was the foie gras. I really enjoyed the flavor combinations however. The portions are perfect and I didn't leave feeling full -- just satisfied. We ended the evening in the bar for a port and it was lovely. The waitress serving us in the bar was not very friendly."

  • "I have eaten at this restaurant every three months or so for over a year. In the past I have written two very positive reviews. This time, not so much. The restaurant was very crowded and service suffered. We waited 50 minutes for our first course, one outstanding, one average. The steak was no where near as tender or substantial as the first one I ate there about a year ago. Also, it was almost raw. The side of veg we ordered was dramatically undercooked which might be fine for somethings, but not root vegetables. Ever bite a raw beet? The Ritz is a beautiful, classic Chicago venue. My experience at Deca is the reason so many people now avoid eating in hotel restaurants."

  • "The Deca salad was outstanding. Usually green salads are not my favorites, but this one had a wonderful light dressing, extra crisp greens and avocado."

  • "I am a fan of the Four Seasons and the Ritz and stay or have dinners or business events at their hotels quite a few times through the course of a year around the country and globally. I had dinner with a business client in the Deca restaurant in Chicago this week and we both had the filet mignon. I know Deca is not a steak restaurant, but still the restaurant is in the Ritz so i expect at least to ba satisfied with the quality of the beef. Both of our steaks were seriously below average. Tough, chewy and not a great flavor. They had tendon-like sections on the ends…so not great cuts either."

  • "I saw a groupon for the restaurant and figured we would give it a try. My fiancé and I had to change a reservation time at short notice, and after getting there, we realized why they were so accommodating. The place wasn't packed, so it was nice and quiet. We were pleased to find a good wine collection, and half off some of the wines. There was a problem with the bottle we chose, so the waiter upgraded the bottle for the same price. The food was good, not the best food I have ever eaten, but definately enjoyable. Overall, it was a nice atmosphere and enjoyable food."

  • "The food and service were overall pretty good. The interesting thing about the location is that it's at one end of a big hall, and the bar is right next to it. Seems too "open" for my taste. No divisions whatsoever. But it's not a bad concept, just that if you're looking for a much private type of location this wouldn't be my first choice. A little on the pricey side, but the overall experience was good."

  • "Really mediocre food with bad acoustics. The wine list is half decent but not really why you'd pay two hundred dollars for a meal for two."

  • "Excellent service...very accommodating if you have any special requests. They always remember returning customers making you feel appreciated as a costumer"

  • "I booked this reservation two months in advance. I used a Travelzoo coupon which got me interested in going back to Deca at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago. Hostess said it was a 30 minute wait to sit in a booth, despite there being an empty one the entire time we were there. The chef Mark Payne, is no longer in residence. The attention to detail has been lost. I always order Foie Gras, it really missed that night, under cooked. It should be well seared on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside, it was only grey on the outside. A bit disappointing. I had the rack of lamb which I would recommend this was prepared very well. My dates meal was nice but not outstanding. There was no wow in the dinner. Too bad because I like the place"

  • "A pricey way to feel pampered and treated to an elevated dining experience. If you let them know you are celebrating a birthday or other special occasion they will provide a gratis dessert. And the chocolate cake is divine."

  • "We dine there often for both lunch and dinner. Everything I ever order from there is excellent. They never have a problem for changing your order a little, if you want a different side or if you want half an order. The staff is always happy to serve you. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who loves fine dining or just a burger. Always a wide variety to order from. Also has a great wine list."

  • "I hosted a business dinner on a busy Saturday night, and the service was impeccable. With our waiter juggling several tables of four or more (he was obviously a pro), the assistant food and beverage manager stepped in, and together, the two were a dynamic duo. My client was overjoyed with her meal, as was I with mine. My other two guests had minor issues with the food, but said they had a good overall experience. (Both are serious foodies, and judge from the standpoint of absolute perfection.) Definitely end your meal with the 10-layer chocolate cake! A slice o' heaven. Thanks to deca, I have a happy client, and I will return."

  • "Great date night or dining spot for a special occasion. The roasted chicken with dumplings and mushrooms was incredible, some of the most tender flavorful chicken I've ever had. The butternut squash ravioli was pretty small for a starter; but very robust flavors and nice texture. The drink menu was pretty good, with some interesting speciality cocktails. I would definitely recommend."

  • "I found the food and wait staff excellent. A very nice romantic spot for Valentines dinner. Connected next to Water Tower Place you can browse the mall before or after dinner. My only complaint was that the valet service was $48 which was a bit pricey and equal in cost for what you would pay if you spent the night at the hotel. I feel there should have been a "little" discount for persons just dining. I would suggest finding a local parking garage rather than valet parking."

  • "Read reviews and wanted to love deca. Unfortunately, the food was good but not great and the service was terrible. Our waiter literally took our orders and we did not see him again until he asked if we wanted dessert. Kitchen staff brought our appetizers, salads and entrees. No one asked if our food was okay, no one asked if we wanted another cocktail or a bottle of wine - nothing. There are so many wonderful dining options in Chicago, I wouldn't waste my time here again."

  • "deca Restaurant + Bar was a restaurant I probably would have never found had it not been for Groupon! I got a great deal for a dinner for 4 and we had a lovely time before going to Million Dollar Quartet. The service and atmosphere was exceptional, they were extremely accommodating for my gluten allergy, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend."

  • "Really enjoyed the deca salad (highly recommend - our server recommended it over the Lyonnaise) and the lemon dessert. The scallops were unbelievable - when you think of a scallop dish, this is what you want. They were PERFECT. The ott burger was just okay. It actually ended up being better reheated. The server notified us that they were doing half off several of the bottles on their wine list, which was really nice, and the atmosphere of the place was really classy without being stuffy. I enjoyed it overall."

  • "We went for Brunch this time. Food was excellent. The hash was so good, I'm sorry I didn't get it. But I had the seared Foie Gras, so I'm not complaining. Who serves that for Brunch. I loved it with a great Gewurtztraminer. Some language difficulties with the waitstaff. I'm surprised the Ritz would hire servers who didn't completely understand English. Ours had difficulty explaining dishes and misunderstood our requests."
