Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed Sunday Brunch at Dean's Seafood Bar & Grill. The selections were varied, both breakfast and early supper. The food could have been a bit warmer, but overall it was a good experience."

  • "This was our first dinner at Dean's and it was great. We have been to the brunches on many occasions which is the best in the area."

  • "Had the VA scallops and they were delicious. The server was wonderful and took care of our toddlers while constantly being attentive and informative. Third visit here and have never been disappointed!"

  • "We have lived in Durham for 8 years and are always on the lookout for great seafood. A friend recommended Dean's and we were very pleased with our experience. Great fish selection, good looking special dishes and a nice wine/cocktail list. Very knowledgeable server. We will be back again!"

  • "Excellent food, and outstanding service from beginning to end. We had a very enjoyable time."

  • "Limited to the summer, the seafood boil met all my expectations. Plenty of mussels, clams, shrimp and crab legs as well as potatoes, sausage and corn. Served family style meaning all together in one pot sized for however many are in your party. It was exactly the right amount of food. Will definitely be back for this (maybe more than once) before Labor Day! Price is hefty ($28 per person) but everything else about it was perfectly satisfying."

  • "This was a great experience again at Deans Friends from NY and Florida were impressed..... Food was wonderful and very tasty. There was one miss but the Wait Staff made up for it with out skipping a beat."

  • "Dean's is our new favorite dinner spot! From the greeters, to the waitstaff, the food to the desserts......perfect!"

  • "This was our first time going to Dean's and we're still on the fence. We were greeted warmly and our server was very sweet and attentive, but had problems with the kitchen. We ordered the lobster and shrimp bisque, a house salad, the shrimp and scallop risotto with no peas, and the corvina sea bass. We were advised that the risotto would take 20-25 minutes, which was fine. Everything was really delicious once we got it, but first, the fish came without the risotto. When it arrived, it had peas in it, so they immediately took it back to make it correctly. The sea bass was under cooked. We sent it back twice to get it cooked all the way. The manager was very apologetic. We will return just to make sure it was an off night for the kitchen."

  • "We really enjoyed the meal and the service was fantastic"

  • "We've dined at Dean's numerous times and have never been disappointed. For whatever reason, service was incredibly poor....it took 35 minutes from the time the appetizer was cleared from the table to the time the entrees were served. My dinner was so boiling hot, that it couldn't be eaten and my husband's dinner was cold. Overall, it was disappointing, but I'm writing this off as one bad dining experience out of many wonderful meals. We will still go back and hope for better luck!"

  • "Perfect place for a special occasion. Service and food were terrific. Manager was attentive and present !"

  • "Recently celebrated my wife's birthday with another couple. Every dish and appetizer we ordered was delicious. The 4 of us dine together regularly and invariably someone always gets at least one thing that isn't quite up to par. Not so at Dean's. Everyone agreed that it was the best meal we had shared together in a long time. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "Took my husband, two children, and a friend here for my husband's 33rd birthday. Amazing menu, the waiter was excellent and attentive, drinks were divine, and the food was perfect! Great local choices which is a plus in our book! Will definitely be back in the near future!"

  • "The special of the night was a bone in rib eye. The price was reasonable but significantly higher than anything else on the menu. Two in our party decided to try it. At best it was disappointing. The steak was cut thinner and had more fat than one that you would get at low price streak chains (eg. Outback, Longhorn). As a result other than the fat it lacked flavor! We have dined at Deans several time before with mixed results. (food over or undercooked, specials not special) Deans is close to home and we would like it to be a viable alternative for dinner. I suggest they go to Firebirds (nearby and similar in price ) to check out their dinner offerings and quality, and also their dinner salad which is superior."

  • "We tried the Father's Day bruch which was a buffet. I usually like buffets for the volume rather than the food quality but this was certainly exceptional. The food quality was both very good and wide rangng. Each dish was very well prepared and the choices varied from the oysters on the half shell to the bread pudding at the end. Our server was very nice and attentive but not intrusive. I am looking forward to trying the regular Sunday brunch."

  • "After having had brunch a couple of other times at Dean's we decided to try it for Father's Day. The quality and quantity of the food selections were as good as usual. They did add pork ribs and brisket to the Father's Day menu and added $5.00 per person. Regardless, it is still a great value and the service was excellent. The only downside to this visit was the table location (too close to the kitchen and buffet line so there was always traffic). We will definitely continue to do Sunday Brunch at Dean's at least quarterly."

  • "Dean's made our Father's Day special! This is the best brunch we have been to in a long time! The food was excellent - the variety insured that everyone found something to enjoy. The service was excellent."

  • "The menu changes weekly to reflect fresh fish. Cooked perfectly and great service. Comfort avail booths too. Looked like a nice bar too, but we were limited on time. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Dean's is too much like Bonefish not to compete on price. The food is good and well prepared, but I am missing their competitive advantage against Bonefish. The menu is similar in that you pick your fish and an accompaniment. Dean's is local you want to support them over a chain, but I am missing why you would choose one over the other."

  • "I like Deans! The Mussels were great, the scallops were great, the Tuna salad was great. They didn't make "a deal" about our friends anniversary?! (noted on the reservations)"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "We enjoy most of the Rocky Top restaurants. Deans is a good choice for seafood. My only critique is I'd prefer they focus on local ingredients. While they certainly have local options, no one will cry if they don't get a piece of fish from Hawaii."

  • "This was our first trip to the Raleigh area and relied on customer reviews from Open Table and Trip Advisor to select restaurants. Dean's was highly rated - accurately so. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was excellent and well priced. We will return to this location on our next visit."

  • "Wonderful seafood buffet brunch. Very reasonable price, great service - attentive. Have eaten Dean's brunch about 7 or 8 times and am never disappointed."

  • "From the beautiful look of the outside of the restaurant to the friendly greeting we received as we entered to our knowledgeable waiter to the excellent choices for our brunch and the great table service...this place rocks. Prices are fair for the amount of food you receive and the food on the buffet is kept full and appetizing. The entire staff seems to be on the same page of costumer service because we didn't see a sour face ...only smiles."

  • "Fresh seafood prepared and displayed in a superb manner. Wide varieties not often found away from a seaport. Fresh oysters. Staff was enthusiastic and truly happy to help. Highly recommended to any seafood lover. Fabulous tuna, swordfish. Very reasonably priced. "

  • "would have come here even with out the coupon - which was a very nice touch - 5 people - food was great as usual - a variety was ordered, but the P & E Shrimp are still the best around - looking forward to trying the Low Country Boil on Sunday night - tough choice between the brunch and the LCB!?"

  • "The food, the setting, and the service were all great. We live at the shore but the quality was equal to any place."

  • "We went for our anniversary. We were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation. The service was very good. However, I ordered the lobster harissa bowl and it only came with a very measly spoonful of lobster - nothing any better than the tiniest bit you can pull from a leg. They did rectify it by giving me more lobster, but it soured my experience since I had to wait for what I had thought I ordered. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were great, but the grits were not soft and creamy; they seemed leftover. Maybe that's what they intended, but typically grits served with shrimp have a more creamy texture. Not sure we'll go there again."

  • "Have been to Deans a number of times and always been happy, until now. Went on Sunday May 25 and they clearly did not have enough staff to meet demand, although restaurant was below seating capacity. We waited a long time to get order taken and then even longer wait for salads. Literally 3 minutes after the salads the entrees came out. We sent them back but they withered under the heat lamp. Swordfish entree has two small thin pieces that turned to leather; salmon also was dry. In retrospect we should have insisted on fresh entrees but we were so tired of waiting that we just ate what we were served. Manager offered a free dessert; he agreed to comp us a glass of wine instead. Another table near us also sent an entree back. "

  • "I know brunch. Especially buffet brunch. I have experienced 5 star brunches in St. Martin overlooking a vast ocean. I enjoyed Deer Park at the Biltmore. Bald Head Island Club Brunch. Grove Park Inn. So when I say Dean's is a MUST then its a MUST."
