A word from de Santos - Manhattan
De Santos is housed in a rustic but chic townhouse in the West Village where you can enjoy Traditional American, International and Mediterranean influenced cuisine from culinary genius Executive Chef Angel Vela. The dark wood and exposed brick dining areas are sexy and cozy. If you're lucky enough to get seated in the downstairs hidden jewel, the Janis, another ambiance will hit your senses as you dine with friends and family, breathing the same air as legends like Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan. This secluded speakeasy rock n' roll room is also used for VIP's and larger private parties. The wide marble topped bar is a great place for a cocktail but comfy enough to stay and indulge in a full meal. French doors open to a large outdoor patio with exposed brick archway and awning where, when dining by candlelight you'll feel transported to the Mediterranean. Wednesday through Saturday late hours there's mixed music and surprises. Only at De Santos. Welcome.

Diner Reviews
  • "Depressing that they keep trying to push downstairs tables on people even when they have a reservation. Have had a couple bad experiences down there because they forget about you and the ambiance is awful...had to sit at the bar. will probably just stop going."

  • "This restaurant is on a neighborhood street in Greenwich Village. It's easy, uncomplicated, unpretentious and come as you are kinda spot. We had a decent meal, nothing over the top, but enjoyable. Very nice cocktails. Service was attentive without being overbearing. I had the avocado & arugula salad and the pork chop, both were excellent. The dessert was awful though, we had a carmel creme brulee, and the custard had a terrible texture which was like eating warmed, lock jaw sweet glue, that had set out too long. With the exception of the dessert everything was good. I would recommend."

  • "This is the 3rd dinner I have had there recently...and EVERYTHING was amazing and delicious. Went to catch up with an old friend and she was equally in love with this beautiful brownstone turned...delicious-ness. The basil crusted swordfish is the best. Looking forward to going back again. Highly recommend."

  • "Went there with a dinner party of 8....the ambiance/food/service was amazing and it was much less expensive than I would have expected with such a large group!! I would definitely recommend."

  • "Not a bad experience. Our waiter was friendly and polite. Lively, young ambiance. The food was good not great. They played AWESOME music. The vibe is the best part about this restaurant."

  • "Nestled amongst the various yuppie bars of West Village, this is a lovely restaurant despite the occasional braying salesman/banker. The food was excellent, the service very good. I'd go back for sure."

  • "Service was awful - from the rude hostess, to the negligent server who forgot menus when requested, food items ordered and even at one point that he had taken our order, to the over attentive bus staff that cleared dishes, utensils and napkins during courses with little concern they were reaching around me and leaning over my dish as I ate. The food was mediocre. The arugula avocado salad was a sad excuse for a menu item. The mac and cheese would please only those who are happy just to eat mac and cheese. It lacked flavor and incredibly viscous and soupy. The pork entree came rare to medium rare from the kitchen. To be fair, after being sent back, it returned medium and was quite tasty. The chicken entree was also good."

  • "I would recommend De Santos for brunch. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was fun."

  • "This is a great room, dark wood, like a secret garden. Food was deli sh and service impeccable"

  • "This place was slightly hard to find, as it looks like you're going up into an apartment building, but lo and behold, there's the restaurant door in the foyer. The inside was very charming, and while I didn't see the outdoor garden or downstairs, they seemed equally nice from picture. We ate their 2 signature dishes, the sea bass and pork chop. Both were excellent! The sea bass was very fresh and tasty, and the corn salsa that came with it was equally delicious. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, and was accompanied with some veggies and couscous. The cocktail list also looked wonderful, although the only one I tried was the De Santos, which I would recommend for tequila lovers. Would highly recommend!"

  • "Really enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Everything was delicious. Best pork chop ever!"

  • "We had reservations for brunch and didn't get sat until an hour later. The waitress quickly told us that the kitchen was short staffed and it would be another hour for our food. During our wait they ran out of prosecco (it was an unlimited brunch), they also ran out of multiple things on the menu. The food was okay but I don't think if go back to this spot for food. The only highlight was the bartender was very quick to take care if you and never lost his cool with how busy it got."

  • "Best bottomless in NYC along with the best food - service can be slow and the crowd noisy, but totally a must-brunch."

  • "As soon as I walked in, I was 7mins late, (but it was unavoidable) I was not greeted, I was just told that I had to be out by 9.30. Which wasn't going to be a problem seeing how it was7.37. That is assuming that your waiter doesn't leave you unattended after your mains for over 20mins. The appetizers were actually very good but my main, a steak, was very average and one of our party received the food10 mins after everybody else as they took his order wrong. I would not go back. Very disappointing for the price."

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at de Santos and everything was great! Food was delicious, the service was attentive and friendly and the environment was welcoming. If I had to give a negative I'd say I wasn't a fan of the dessert, we got the apple cobbler and it came out a little burnt tasting, BUT we still ate it so it couldn't have been that bad! All in all we had a good experience and would recommend de santos to friends. Best, Nicole"

  • "Our server was not attentive and the food was mediocre. We sat in the back area on metal folding chairs that looked they were leftover from a wedding hall that went out of business 20 years ago. While the plant hangings were pretty in the back garden, we were also placed right next to a door that led to the basement kitchen--This meant we had our brunch to the steady sound of clanging pots and pans. Overall, not a great experience. I had been here once before a few years ago for dinner and had a lovely experience, but it seems like it's since been placed under new management. If one is looking for a nice spot to get brunch and have a few mimosas, this is certainly not it."

  • "We showed up right on time and were seated fairly quickly, with no mention of any issues. The decor in the restaurant was horrible and cheesy (lots of heart shaped balloons). I understand that it was Valentine's Day, but it was just too much. We were seated downstairs and waited a good 15 minutes or so for anyone to come to our table. The waiter showed up to pour us some 'complimentary' champagne (which was included in the price of the prix fixe dinner) and lightly told us that due to some issues in the kitchen he "didn't know" if we could be served dinner. Then he just walked away with no further explanation. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else, but it is beyond me why they didn't explain this before we were seated!"

  • "I want to believe that my experience was an abberration, but that was awful. After 50 minutes we asked where our appetizers were and we were informed they never put our order in. In total took almost 3 hours to eat dinner. The food was only ok and the music was so loud we could barely hear each other. Our experience was not unique as the table next to us also was there for 3 hours. Perhaps it's better on a non-holiday. I'll never know."

  • "Had a great meal here Sunday for brunch. Service was great, food was great as well. my only critique is with the unlimited cocktails. The champagne in the bellinis was flat and the bloody mary's were inconsistent at best. the first round we got was spectacular. The subsequent round however took longer and longer to arrive and had fewer and fewer ingredients until it was just well vodka and tomatoe juice. All that aside however, our server was great, the food was great too and I applaud the unlimited booze with the prix fix deal especially for a west village spot."

  • "Went here on a triple date before going to see "Outside Mullingar." We had bought the Gilt City promotion, which was fantastic ($75 for two appetizers, two entrees, two drinks per person, and one dessert to share.) My husband and I tried the mac and cheese and the avocado salad. Both were fantastic, but the mac and cheese was out of this world. For entrees, we both enjoyed the salmon which was served with salad. And lastly, for dessert we had the scrumptious creme brulee. The waitstaff was really good at getting us in and out so we wouldn't be late for our show. We will be back to try De Santo's brunch :-)"

  • "Went to De Santos because of a deal I got on Giltcity. Food was delicious and flavorful. I will definitely go back."

  • "I'd return simply because it is wonderful to be in a village townhouse that has not changed much in the 49 years since I first visited it when it was called the ninth circle and I met Liza Minelli at the bar. This is a comfortable welcoming spot."

  • "While the interior of the restaurant is lovely, we were seated at a table that was in the path of a very chilly draft. The host accommodated us by moving us to a table right next to the door where it was even worse. There were large parties of loud twenty-somethings that were clearly there for the booze, "Unlimited drinks for 2 hours included in the $36 pre-fix which allows for one entree", and no bread basket. There was only one waiter working several tables, which is part of the plan no doubt to slow down the drink orders. The food was just okay. It might have been better if it didn't turn ice cold before I had a chance to finish it. I'm curious what the place would be like on a nice Spring day at any time other than brunch."

  • "I had a reservation for 2 set at 10pm. We came 5mns early. We waited half an hour standing since no seat were available even at the bar. We left to have a drink after the hostess said they would call us when a table would free up. We waited an hour till 11.30pm but the hostess never called back."

  • "The macaroni and cheese was the best I've ever had, and the dressing on the arugula salad was fresh and delicious. I had the salmon as my main course, and although it lacked the wow factor of the apps, it was also fresh and delicious. Great drinks. Request the downstairs dining room for a more intimate setting, because the bar upstairs gets crowded after 9."

  • "Atmosphere in the upstairs room is great; downstairs room is pretty good."

  • "Service was excellent, food delicious and ambiance/music energetic and fun. Dark, candles, good looking people, and nice waitstaff. I had the LI duck breast for an entree and it was prepared perfectly. For an app I had the arugula & avocado salad which was on the small side for the price. My buddy had the tuna tar tar and that was a much better choice. I will definitely be back! Oh, forgot the drinks.....cocktails were well made - had the Pepino Diablo (refreshing & a tad spicy)"

  • "I hadn't been here in a while, brought my wife and friends. The food was delicious, interesting selections. My only complaint was that it became VERY LOUD shortly after we arrived, and when I left I felt like if shouted all evening, which takes De Santos down a peg. Otherwise, very good. I'll probably come back again at some point."

  • "We got there 16 minutes late and they had seated someone at our spot, trapping us at the bar. We'd meant to while away the afternoon with their very excellent drink special but instead ordered entrees (they were okay) and bolted as soon as we were done."

  • "The only bottomless brunch in NYC where the food is as big an attraction as the pitchers of mimosas, bloody marys, kir royales, or bellinis (or a mix and match bunch) that they plop on your table and keep filled the whole 2 hours. Get the steak sandwich."
    Dined on 1/1/2014
  • "The food was really good with interesting menu choices and a friendly, helpful staff. The only downside was that the food could have been a little warmer, although as it was New Year's eve (and a special menu) that could be a big reason to the food not being warm."

  • "I came here on a Wed night with three friends. It wasn't super busy but it was 10pm at this point. The food is good. I had the avocado and corn salad to start . It was a good basic salad. Then I had the swordfish with kale mad some sort of Israeli couscous . It was actually quite delicious and very nicely prepared. My friend had the squid ink linguini with shrimps which was also very tasty. Finally, ended with a dessert I loved..a crepe w/ dulce de leche (caramel) filling. Amazzzzing!"

  • "the crowd was young and loud. The Sunday brunch offers an unlimited drinks for 2 hours. I would not go back for brunch, maybe try it for dinner."
    Dined on 12/15/2013
  • "Overall this place was good. It was just weird, our waitress seemed miserable and angry. She told us if we would have ordered apps and entree together our food would come faster, but now it's too late and our food will take hours. Not sure she waited until after we ordered to say that? They said if we ordered as soon as we sat down it would have been better. It was very odd. We wondered if the staff was just telling everyone to hurry and order so they could leave earlier in the night because the food actually didn't take long at all. It just started off the dinner on a weird, salty note."

  • "De Santos has a really cool decoration and a nice vibe, it gets really animated at night and the serve good coktails! The food is pretty decent too, duck tacos, the truffle macarroni and cheese, the tuna tartare!! All is very good, will go back! It was fun to go with a group of friends!"

  • "Our dishes, duck breast and trout respectively, were very good indeed, with good quality ingredients, accompaniments and preparation. But the noise level was unpleasantly high, and there were frequent gusts of chilly air every time someone opened the door to come or go. In warm weather, there is a garden in back, with an OK sound level."
