Diner Reviews
  • "We showed up on a recent Saturday night expecting a lively Cuban resto to celebrate our first weekend in Miami...instead, they didn't have our rez which wasn't a problem since the place was dead. Then our server forgot my friend's entree and on top of that called us, "My Lady" all the time which seemed odd but maybe is part of the industry down there. Anyhow, not the best ...for us anyway."

  • "It was my first time in the restaurant. The octopus was the best! I recommend this restaurant."

  • "Great restaurant that's not as popular as it should be, probably due to the somewhat hidden location."

  • "No flavor on shrimp and grits Cinnamon overpowered the vaca frita"

  • "With only a short tstay at Miami Beach - we wanted to try a Cuban restaurant. De Rodriguez did not disappoint with classic Cuban offerings as well as Spanish influenced fare. We had some of the best tapas ever - the octopus was perfectly prepared, and the paella was perfect for two and exquisite - loaded with seafood and the rice was superbly flavorful."

  • "Went here for a special occasion and since it was all our first time to Miami we figured you must try Cuban food, this place was super delicious and really have us a good experience. The waiters were super nice and friendly and the front desk lady was the nicest. We would definitly enjoy going back and trying some other great plates."

  • "We had a beer each and shared 3 appetizers among the 5 of us. The bill was $240 and no one was enthusiastic about the food."

  • "Vacationing in Miami, we wanted to have dinner at a Cuban or Latin restaurant, and we were nit disappointed. Ceviche, octopus starters were perfect, entrees were delicious, great desserts all with excellent service...hard to ask for more!"

  • "One of my best meals ever. I had been there several years ago and loved it then. I was concerned that a return visit might not measure up, but it did."

  • "Amazing food experience . Truly to be tried at least once"

  • "We had a horrible experience. The drinks took for ever to arrive at the table. When we ordered the food it took an extremely long time for it to arrive at the table. Once it did only 3 of got served the other persons food did not arrive. The waitress told us the kitchen got confused and did not put in the correct order. They ended up giving him a plate he had not ordered. The plantains that were served were stale, and the french fries were greasy. The waitress apologized for the inconvenience said that they got busy and did not have enough staff. This is hard to believe since the restaurant is located in a Hilton Hotel , they should be prepared for guests."

  • "The atmosphere was great, the food was delectable, and the service was amazing."

  • "Beautiful ambience. Sat outside next to the pool. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. The waiter confused one of our entrees, so it took longer than anticipated to get our main course. My fish was average. My partner's meat was very good. Overall a good meal in a beautiful location."

  • "There was certainly nothing wrong with D Rod, but for the money I expected the food and service to be better. Marlin tacos were good, mini Cuban sandwiches great, beff empanadas OK. Entree beef skirt steak was quite good."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "This restaurant is over-hyped. The food was average, the service nice but amateurish. Not worth the money for a chain restaurant experience."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Very knowledgeable of menu and food prep and attentive...nice place to go to avoid crowds a little further north along the south beach area...but went early"
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Food was good, but not great. Ceviche had too much sauce, fish taco was yummy but a little sparse. Nice atmosphere, good service. Lovely day for outdoor dining. Valet parking was free with validation, which is great since there is little parking."

  • "Food was mediocre. The service was indifferent. Lovely location. Charged us for a cocktail that was so sweet it was undrinkable....I get that we ordered it,but most places don't charge if the customer doesn't like they beverage at first sip. Was so disappointed in the menu and the food quality...."

  • "This is the the third visit to De Rodriguez. Why this restaurant is not packed every night is beyond us. Perhaps it's because it is a so close to the beach but not on it and tucked back off Ocean a half block. The food is superb from appetizers to entrees to desserts. Octopus, seviche, marlin tacos appetizers are terrific. Entrees are each very special and perfectly portioned. Service was excellent in the dining room."

  • "What can I say...we were a bit disappointed this time...food was good but the service mediocre and the scene didn't seem as vibrant as other times we have dined here...we much prefer Ola now."

  • "We were in town staying in Miami Beach at another hotel. My wife picked this restaurant from on line reviews, wanted to try some Cuban food. It is in a Hilton in southern South Beach and we explored a bit after lunch. Great Cuban sandwich with pleasant service. Would definitely go back if in town for dinner."

  • "The server, Katherine, was very knowledgable and her description of the food entices you to want to order everything on the menu."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Two out of four appetizers and meals were undercooked. All food was served too fast. Salad forks were taken off plates and placed on table to be used for main course. Deserts were very small. Drinks were excellent. Very expensive compared to other South Beach restaurants."

  • "My dining companions comments: food great if you live long enough to eat it. The wait staff is lucky the chef is so good or they'd be on unemployment. The ceviches were delicious and varied. Inventive use of ingredients in all of its dishes. Loved the filing on the fig and foie gras fritters would have liked the dough to be lighter and less grainy. But over all our food was excellent."

  • "The restaurant is now located on the ground floor of a Hilton hotel. When we were there, the main dining area was being used by a hotel conference, so we were seated just off the bar area, which was very raucous. When we asked for a quieter table, we were taken to the outdoor dining area, which wasn't initially offered to us despite the main dining area being unavailable. As other reviewers have noted, the outdoor dining area is by the hotel pool, although there were only few people using the pool. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, but not the wine list, and there was no sommelier. The food was competent but nothing special, particularly at this price point. There are many better restaurant options in South Beach."

  • "Food was great all around, as well as the service. It was not crowded - we had an 8pm reservation. Yes it is right next to the pool at the Hilton, but for evening dinning in the dark that did not matter. I would go back again."

  • "If you are looking for a nice place with good food in Miami, this is one of them. The grilled octopus was delicious - a must try. The pink elephant cocktail was so good, we could not pass on the seconds - highly recommend it. The entree dish - fish - portion was so generous that it was a little too much food for us, but we sure tried the dessert - deconstructed key lime pie, very refreshing after the fish. We will sure go back to try some other dishes."

  • "Expected more from an acclaimed chef in name-brand hotel. The food is satisfactory but not remarkable. Room is much too dark and lacks architectural or decorative distinction. Few patrons."
    Dined on 2/4/2014
  • "Modern Cuban situated in the Hilton hotel. We had the grilled octopus, snapper and conch ceviche, oxtails and the sugar cane tuna. All were great. the tuna was incredibly tender. I was concerned when it was not crowded when we arrived, but it seems to attract a late crowd as the restaurant was full when we left. Staff was helpful. No complaints."

  • "De Rodriguez is a nice place to sample Cuba food. We did the chefs tasting of 14 different plates. All were good with the fish plates the best. Service was as good as it gets. The dining room is in the Hilton and serves breakfast-lunch and dinner, all that traffic shows and the room is in need of a remodel"

  • "I had no idea I liked Cuban food until I went here. Amazing."

  • "De Rodriquez Cuba has modernized the classic Cuban menu. There are some standard caribbean notes in the dishes, but the experience is not for someone looking to relive their prior ventures with Cuban cuisine. Everything was made from scratch and the quality was quite good. However, the prices were far too high. Also, the servers were polite, but slow."

  • "Went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening at 830 which is normally a very busy time. There were 7 tables occupied. The ceviches are very expensive with very little fish. My crispy Cuban pork belly had 5 small slices. I was disappointed with the menu choices, our server left In the middle of our meal and another server took over. Can't recommend nor would I go back."

  • "A.C. Was broken, wish they'd mention these things to customers. Food was good, drinks not so good so would stick to wine or beer. Service was really slow even though there were not a lot of people."

  • "We decided on trying this restuarant for some good Cuban food and we were not disappointed. Now the down side. The service was a lot to be desired as we booked our table for 7:30 pm we were served at 7:45 pm and our food arrived at 8:20 pm. the table next to us were there before we arrived and did not get served food until another 15mins passed by. one table with a party of 5 just got up and left after waiting. there were plenty of staff available but seemed not to pay much attention to customer quality and service. my wife and I ordered two Cojito's and afer I drank mine the server just picked up my empty glass and walked off not asking if I needed another."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "A good place to experience Cuban food with upscale preparation. The service was good although the usual attempt to try and remember ordered dishes without writing it down inevitably results in something going wrong. But it was rectified quickly."

  • "located on the first floor of a hotel, we should have turned around when we saw that we were one of 5 tables filled in the restaurant. food was really bad. way too many cool restaurants to choose from in south beach, this would not be one we would revisit."
    Dined on 12/7/2013
  • "Ceviches were ok but portions were small. Entrees arrived cold and meat was tough and tasteless in 3 different plates."
