Diner Reviews
  • "Not living up to the hype / reviews, way past its glory days. Average food quality, totally predictable hotel food. Try elsewhere."

  • "My husband and I were in South Beach vacationing and went to De Rodriguez for our anniversary. We usually frequent Alma De Cuba (a sister restaurant) in Philly where we live. Douglas Rodriquez well-deserved the James Beard award. The SB restaurant was a totally spectacular sensory experience. Our server was outstanding and extremely attentive as was the other wait staff. The food was memorable in presentation as well as taste. We shared guacamole as an appetizer. My husband had the skirt steak and I had the salmon. We each had ice cream for dessert. I cannot recommend this restaurant (or Alma De Cuba) highly enough. If you are in either city be sure to make a reservation. You will not be disappointed."

  • "The food was amazing and the restaurant was very nicely decorated. Air conditioner could of been a little cooler, but everything was great. All the drinks were really good and came to the table very promptly. The food was very flavorful as it should of been being Cuban food. I had the lamb and it was cook to perfection. I will say the short ribs my wife ordered were by far one of the best tasting short ribs I've ever had. The deserts were a good size. I had the cuatro leche. The portions were more than fulfilling for a couple. Overall the atmosphere was really good and the attention was up to par. I wouldn't mind suggesting it to friends and family. I had a great time and I would be going back to try some more of the menu items. Good.."

  • "An excellent dining experience enormously enhanced by our waiter, Alberto, who started off by recommending his favorite cocktail, a Passion Picoso, which was both different and delightful. He then convinced us to try the tuna and watermelon ceviche which was fantastic. At this point, we let him recommend the main entrée; he selected the Chilean Sea Bass with a Beluga lentil stew sauce which may have been the best sea bass we've ever had."

  • "Absolutely delicious meals, I ordered the churrasco skirt steak and It was absolutely tender, juicy and savory. The ambience was quiet and hip. I would definitely come back here!"

  • "The service and food was fit for royalty. It is so rare that you find service with charm or without attitude and the waiters at Derodriguez achieved both. For We had the 4 ceviche sampler, grilled squid, and pork belly. All were interesting examples of S. and C. American fusion food. For my personal taste I'd skip the squid, which made me squirm a bit- just can't take my mind off what this creature looks when whole. We were there in low season at night, so there were few other tourists around. The outdoor patio overlooks a hotel pool, which I imagine would be a lot busier in high season and detract from the elegant/romantic ambiance. For dessert the waiters excelled again, serving a tres leche cake, not a slice, for my husband's birthday"

  • "I ordered paella. It was a small portion which seemed as if the cook poured tomato sauce from a can over the rice at the last minute. The seafood was over cooked. I was displeased with the quality of the food. I specifically selected the restaurant to enjoy Cuban quizine. Nice ambience"

  • "After learning about Chef Doug Rodriguez and the history of the restaurant, I truly wanted to go & finally did. At first, my friend and I were not too thrilled because we really did not like one of the appetizers ordered. However, Jaime (the server) was incredibly understanding & helpful. The Chef (Mario) himself made sure to not only immediately correct the situation, but surpassed our expectations with a ceviche that my friend calls the BEST by far! Unfortunately, the a/c was not working properly, which made it quite uncomfortable, but that only means that now we have to return. Looking forward to it...especially to try some of the dishes Chef Mario recommended. :)"

  • "For a chef who won a James Beard Award the food was uninspiring and down right bad. Supposedly know for its ceviche, the ceviche I had was a running bland mess presented in a very unappealing manner; I have had much better at cheap Mexican restaurants. I ordered Sugar Cane Tuna, which I was told was the most popular dish on the menu; it should be taken off! The tuna was OK, but the rest of the dish detracted so much from the tuna that I only eat a small bite. The waiter was arrogant and impatient. Not to mention the place was empty."

  • "We went to De Rodriguez because a couple of friends were staying on a closer hotel and they wanted to eat vuban food. I found De Rodriguez on a online research, reviews were very good, reviews were not wrong, the place is beautifull and service and food are amazing. Highly recommended! !!!!! The only issue is we had to pay $10 for valet parking, if we spent more than $400 on a dinner probably Reataurant could take care about it."

  • "Your palette will thank you for enjoying the bright citrus notes and sushi grade fishies, adorned with chilies, onion and tons of sabor! The menu is outstanding, reasonably why Chef is nicknamed- TheGodfather. Service was pleasant, hotel demeanor which could be a connective opportunity for continuing patronage- specifically did not acknowledge our reservation notes of "celebrating just married." The bar program has international wine selections, although large mark up for hotel business guests. We suggest cocktails menu and happy hour mojitos and sangria for $5. Well worth it! Going for the food alone, you still will be wowed."

  • "We opted for small plates, and were happy with our choice as each dish was unique, providing exquisite flavors. It's hard to choose a favorite dish, but surely the fois gras and fig empanadas were the most unexpected treat. Flavors and textures of all dishes were like a celebration for the palate. Our server was attentive, warm, enthusiastic, and informative. A glorious evening."

  • "Nice restaurant tucked away from the madness that is the So Be strip, has very good Cuban food!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The service was horrible. We ordered 2 appetizers, one was the Kobe meatballs, it was tasteless and had a very odd texture. Our other appetizer was the foie gras & fig empanada which was very good. Due to the poor service, atmosphere and the disappointment that they are not a Cuban restaurant, we decided not to order entrees, we paid our bill and left. "

  • "Always love De Rodriguez when in SoBe. Totally off the beaten path and seems to almost never have anyone in the restaurant but us. This time around we found the new guacamole pretty bad but that was literally the ONLY problem. Everything else was delicious. My pink elephant was rather watery but it didn't mar the fantastic dinner. Will always return to this restaurant, it holds it's own amongst the standouts. "

  • "Food was pricey and some of plates were small portions but it was good "
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "The good was okay. The place was dead on a Friday at 9pm. The taco small plate may have been one of the worst dishes I've ever had. The paella was good, but it was more of a sea food platter dropped on a bead of what I would describe as too wet rice. Decent flavor though. "

  • "This is a very good restaurant, but did not quite live up to the other reviews I had seen of it. The food is good, but, again, it wasn't as expected. It is lovely to eat out by the pool on a warm Miami night, but there was some loud noise coming from next door that cut into the ambience some. "

  • "Food was unbelievable terrible. We ordered the most expensive item on the menu: paella. It was the worst paella we ever tried and the size certainly didn't justify $45. We were so disappointed, we couldn't believe this restaurant is listed as one of the best in Miami , the city with so many great restaurants."

  • "Pro: good food Cons: it took a long time to get the food even with only a few guests; we got the shared starter after our main course had arrived; we got the wine 10 minutes after getting our main courses; we were billed incorrectly (twice the total amount); there were few people and not much ambience. The place should have potential though."

  • "Food was great; service wonderful. Someone in our group was gluten free and others vegetarian -- the waiter did a great job guiding us. Super helpful. "

  • "they have an amazing menu, the food was prepared well, and very good. the drink menu was good as well. the server had excellent knowledge of the menu and the food preparations, and the location was very good. my only complaint was we sat outside near the pool around 7ish, and there were kids swimming and splashing water. if your on a romantic date eat inside, or later when the pool is closed. they are a little pricey as well. but it is south beach Bentley. there you have it."

  • "The service was friendly and very helpful - they went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The chef sent out an assortment of appetizers and we were surprised with a champaign toast! What was supposed to be a special dinner turned into a 4 hour wonderfully memorable evening! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all amazing!"

  • "The menu posted on open table was not the menu we were handed. This was a Poolside hotel restaurant. Restaurant was labeled Latin fusion; I don't know why. I asked for Sangria and got some awful, fizzy red wine with no fruit (and I think they charged me twelve bucks for it). The avocado and heirloom tomato salad was very good, but way overpriced. Staff was friendly; that's the only plus. Oh, and some entertainment .... A woman took her top off at the pool and the "pool butler" had to tell her to put it back on."

  • "We showed up on a recent Saturday night expecting a lively Cuban resto to celebrate our first weekend in Miami...instead, they didn't have our rez which wasn't a problem since the place was dead. Then our server forgot my friend's entree and on top of that called us, "My Lady" all the time which seemed odd but maybe is part of the industry down there. Anyhow, not the best ...for us anyway."

  • "While researching places to dine in Miami from the website this looked like a great retro Cuban restaurant. From the minute we walked in it did not look like the website nor did it appear to be a place we wanted to stay. We left before the waiter even arrived. Buyer beware! "

  • "Great restaurant that's not as popular as it should be, probably due to the somewhat hidden location."

  • "No flavor on shrimp and grits Cinnamon overpowered the vaca frita"

  • "We had a beer each and shared 3 appetizers among the 5 of us. The bill was $240 and no one was enthusiastic about the food."

  • "Went here for a special occasion and since it was all our first time to Miami we figured you must try Cuban food, this place was super delicious and really have us a good experience. The waiters were super nice and friendly and the front desk lady was the nicest. We would definitly enjoy going back and trying some other great plates."

  • "Vacationing in Miami, we wanted to have dinner at a Cuban or Latin restaurant, and we were nit disappointed. Ceviche, octopus starters were perfect, entrees were delicious, great desserts all with excellent service...hard to ask for more!"

  • "With only a short tstay at Miami Beach - we wanted to try a Cuban restaurant. De Rodriguez did not disappoint with classic Cuban offerings as well as Spanish influenced fare. We had some of the best tapas ever - the octopus was perfectly prepared, and the paella was perfect for two and exquisite - loaded with seafood and the rice was superbly flavorful."

  • "One of my best meals ever. I had been there several years ago and loved it then. I was concerned that a return visit might not measure up, but it did."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We had a horrible experience. The drinks took for ever to arrive at the table. When we ordered the food it took an extremely long time for it to arrive at the table. Once it did only 3 of got served the other persons food did not arrive. The waitress told us the kitchen got confused and did not put in the correct order. They ended up giving him a plate he had not ordered. The plantains that were served were stale, and the french fries were greasy. The waitress apologized for the inconvenience said that they got busy and did not have enough staff. This is hard to believe since the restaurant is located in a Hilton Hotel , they should be prepared for guests."
