Diner Reviews
  • "We had tickets for a show so we wanted a restuarant near the Ohio Theater. deNovo was right distance and excellent choice. The experience from David the host to Thomas our waiter was wonderful. The staff made us feel like old friends. The food was great as well. We have recommended deNovo to friends and will return soon. "

  • "Great when you are in downtown Columbus for an event and want to eat somewhere close."

  • "All of us were a bit put off when we were asked if we were going to be wrapping up soon so another party could get seated at our table. We were a party of 8, our reservation was at 6, we left by 8pm. It wasn’t crowded. We ordered a cheese place, entrees, a few of us had a drink, and we got 2 desserts. It was rude in essence to be asked "can you hurry up?" I doubt any of us will be returning."

  • "The Chef did an amazing job with the menu selections. The nuisances of each dish were suburb. There is something on the menu for everyone, from the most adventurous to the less daring diner. Our favorites were the kangaroo carpaccio, ahi tuna, and chicken and grits. (the greens were quite delicious....we may have figured out his secret ingredients). Our service was impeccable, right down to the personal hand-off by the maitre'd when he escorted us down to Chez du Bon for after dinner drinks and live jazz."

  • "My wife and I had a great experience. Though we were running late, they were able to get us seated right away. We were on a schedule and they did a great job of getting our drinks, taking our order, and then getting our appetizers and meals out in a timely manner."

  • "The service at De NOVO was top notch - the food was delicious and was just the local gem we needed after landing in Columbus. The tuna tartare cups were divine and the the scallops were amazing. The sommelier/manager here was amazing - he was incredibly accommodating whether it was consulting our wine choice or getting a favorite flavor of the local ice cream. He even helped us recover a cell phone that was left at the table! There's something to be said about the food here but there's also something to be said about the honest service at this restaurant. Overall, this was a great dining experience!"

  • "The first time I ate here bout a year ago, it was excellent, great food, great service and energetic ambiance. Successively visits have been increasingly disappointing culminating in this one where the food was decidedly ho hum, questionably fresh and not worth the money, wait staff were not aware of bar selections and ambiance flat - the place was empty. Will not return."

  • "Never ever have i had a dissapointing meal here! This includes both brunch and dinner! Small plates awesome! Entrees awesome! Service awesome! Ambiance awesome! When paying higher dollars for a meal, I find this place well worth it!!! It was also my time having sea bass, duck liver, and kangaroo! Believe it or not, soooo good! But dont worry, they do have traditional items too! Get there now!"

  • "Second visit to DeNovo. While the food is good, for the second time now we had a server who didn't understand the menu and wasn't very helpful. Food and drinks were served timely but he wasn't very friendly. Loved the drink menu and highly recommend the Queen Bee."

  • "Food was good, chicken duo was amazing. Service was excellent, prices good for quality of food. Liked it a lot, nice to find a new place to add to the usual haunts!!! Close to many theatres in downtown"

  • "Front of restaurant/bar more vibrant, but back room quiet and intimate, so our group of eight could talk across the table. Small plates were great for sharing lots of different flavors. Loved the lobster mac & cheese and crab cakes. Ravioli needed more sauce. Otherwise excellent experience. Server very knowledgeable."

  • "I dine out quite often, try many restaurants and had been to De Novo previously and thought it was ok. My daughter had not been there, so that's where we went. I was completely blown away by the new menu. We shared a bottle of wine that was a bit over priced, but I expect that. We also shared three small plates: Kangaroo carpaccio, wild boar sliders and lobster mac & cheese. I don't think I had ever had kangaroo; it was somewhat gamie, but interesting. The wild boar was very good and the lobster mac was excellent. Our server was very helpful and attentive. I would highly recommend De Novo."

  • "We were glad to be seated in the back room of the restaurant so that we could talk with one another without shouting. The service was slow. The food was good."

  • "The staff was incredibly accommodating and efficient. We were in a rush to make it to Phantom and they helped us with excellent menu choices to meet our needs. The small plates of Tuna and Wild Pork were outstanding."

  • "The menu is unique, but everything tastes fabulous. You could close your eyes and put your finger anywhere on the menu and be confident that you'd love the dish."

  • "My daughter and I enjoyed brunch at DeNovo before a production of Phantom of the Opera at the Ohio Theater. The atmosphere at DeNovo is always great - fabulous, eclectic decor. The menu includes many brunch basics and some fantastic one-of-a-kind creations, it was difficult to decide what to order! We ended up sharing the Breakfast Nachos and the Chocolate Covered Bacon Pancakes ~ the perfect combination of savory and sweet! Food was delicious and Bloody Marys and Mimosas were $5. Great experience and very reasonable."

  • "In these days of having problems finding an excellent restaurant open on Sundays, especially downtown Columbus, de Novo's commitment to providing excellent cuisine seven days a week is tremendous! Larry & Marilyn Delk"

  • "I have dined here 4 times and not only is the food excellent, but the servers and bartenders are some of the best I've experienced."

  • "Salad were great as well as soups. Meals were not great. Pork was undercooked and crab cakes were too mushy"

  • "My family is spread out over 4 states and 3 of them just happen to be in Columbus. We took a chance on Brunch at De Novo. We had a great brunch. The chocolate bacon pancakes and the Creme brule French toast was terrific. Our waitress was on top of things and did a great job. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Really cool decor here. I liked it a lot. The food was really good too although I would have liked to see a few more entree options. The kangaroo appetizer was really unique and daring (and delicious) but the portion size is really way to small to fully enjoy. Our waiter and the other staff were impeccably attentive and pleasant. This is a great spot for a quiet, romantic dinner, or a trendy social gathering."

  • "David was wonderful - the staff got us through our meal in perfect time for theater."

  • "We picked this restaurant because it was close to the Ohio THeatre. The decor was devine! THe food was great, my scallop dish was excellent and the drinks- great! THe best part of the night was when i called the valet shortly before the show was over to pull up my car, low and behold the hostess had brought it to the front of the OHIO THEATRE. That was above and beyond, great job!"

  • "First time dining here, it was fabulous. Service was great and food excellent. We were going to a show at the Ohio Theater, so it was convenient to eat then walk to the venue. Varied menu offering both small and large plates, a great wine list and cocktails."

  • "Came here before Seinfeld and they were great about getting our order in so we could enjoy dinner and get to the show on time. The tuna au poivre salad was delicious as were the scallops."

  • "I spent many hours searching for the perfect place for a romantic night out of town. From a google search I found open table. If you had me write this review about De Novo up until the last 15 min. of our dining experience I would have said I can't wait to tell everyone what an amazing place this is. Matt was an awesome server. He sold me on trying the duck & I must say hats of to the chef...FANTASTIC!! To make a long story short because I don't have enough characters left to explain. I would never return if David (who I am guessing is a host) is still employed there. I have never had such a fantastic dining experience ruined so quickly by one person."

  • "My husband and I met some friends for brunch on a Saturday. I loved the decor and ambiance, especially for dinner or cocktails, which I think is when they do the vast majority of their business. My husband and friends really liked their food. Apparently the creme brulee french toast is out of this world. I ordered the egg white fritatta and wasn't terribly impressed with it. The accompanying potatoes were delicious; I wished I'd ordered the omelet. I am gluten-free, so brunch can be a challenge, but I found their menu to provide creative, unique offerings. Their coffee was great- which, let's face it, can ruin the whole brunch if it's not good. Our server was friendly and attentive. I will be going back, this time for dinner and drinks."

  • "After making a reservation for valentine's day weekend, we had to wait over half an hour. There is no room to wait. We were then Seated at the worst table in the place, right up against the bar - and namely some loud obnoxious guy who kept bumping into my boyfriend's shoulder. The menu didnt match the one online. Our waitress made it sound impossible to get anything on the regular menu. They had a limited Valentine's Day menu, according to her attitude. So we finally got moved. Then we ordered. And they brought out my bf's dish and the wrong dish. The waitress returned and said they were out of the dish I ordered. We left right then and there. Easily the worse Valentine's Day ever."

  • "Went here on the day before V-day for an early celebration. Was not disappointed with the food at all. Waiter said he was knew but he was very knowledgeable of the menu and made some great suggestions. We started off with the pork and grits and it was fantastic. It was by far our favorite dish of the night. A delicious red sauce with shrimp, grits the texture of mashed potatoes, and pork that just melted when your fork touched it. No knife needed! Next we had the tuna cups and the fois gras. The tuna cups were definitely tasty. Served cold, the tuna was very fresh and delicious. They were a little heavy on the wasabi (sp?) and it was all at the bottom of the cups but they were still great in flavor and easy to eat. Fois Gras was just ok."
