A word from DC Coast
DC Coast is the flagship restaurant of David Wizenberg, Gus DiMillo, and Chef Jeff Tunks, proprietors of Passion Food Hospitality. Located in DC's first Art Deco building, DC Coast strives to redefine classic cuisine and spirits. Chef Miles Vaden puts his own creative twist on the tri-coastal cuisine that has made DC Coast a popular dining spot for the last 15 years while bartender Lauren Lowe mixes up classic Prohibition Era cocktails with her own modern flavor. In addition to the regular menu, DC Coast offers a new tasting menu each month, featuring the cuisine and wine of a different coast from around the world. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "good food - great ambiance - quiet - good tie with friends."

  • "We went on a Saturday night with a total of 6 and the food and ambiance was great for the occasion. The Poisson cru starter was excellent and we mostly had fish, it was a success all around."

  • "Excellent food, although portions are on the small side for their cost."

  • "Came here for a client meeting, I was looking for a place with a great location so we could see some DC landmarks after dinner and also a place suitable for people observing lent. DC Coast, with all their seafood options, was a good choice. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the drinks were equally delicious. Low lighting, one person needed to pull out his cell phone to read the menu - but I didn't have an issue. My biggest complain was the service, while our server was immensely pleasant, she was a little forgetful. Finally, restaurant has many unique "policies" including: appetizers and entree had to be ordered at the same time and not serving food to an empty chair. I would probably go again, but maybe not for a business meeting."

  • "The ambience and quality of food and service and first-class."

  • "Service was as poor. The waiter did not check on us and had to wait several minutes between meals and drinks."

  • "Restaurant was very nice, as was the food, ambience was fantastic, but the server however was a big zero. Nothing to ruin a meal like being waited on by an arrogant server. Have eaten at many DC restaurants and would rarely not recommend one. DC Coast reached that mark."

  • "We had wonderful service and every dish we had was interesting, creative and tasty. We had gluten, seafood, nut, mushroom allergies at our table (!) but nothing fazed our waitress (or the kitchen). It was a night to remember."

  • "It has been around 10 years since I've been back to DC Coast. Not a nanotube but visit DC regularly. This experience was disappointing. Food was ok, not great (all six of us felt the same), server was energetic but slow - probably more tables than she should have had. And the ambience (upstairs table in a small skinny overflow feeling room) was not good. Would not recommend."

  • "I ordered the Halibut and was very impressed. I would order it again. The service was top notch. I definitely recommend this place."

  • "Decent restaurant...... Valet parking is affordable. I Brought my husband here for his birthday but did not feel that our waiter was attentive at all. When my husband went to the restroom, I spoke to the waiter and we decided to have him bring donuts with a candle when I asked for the check. However, he forgot. I reminded him when I went to the restroom and he forgot again. As we were getting up to leave, the birthday dessert finally arrived. Also, I could barely get to the bathrooms, as there were crowds of people standing in the lobby. The food was good but I would probably not recommend due to inattentive wait staff."

  • "Food was delicious. Server was very friendly and pleasant. Was celebrating a birthday and they customized the menu saying happy birthday to me. Super friendly. Romantic setup if you sit upstairs where it is a little more quiet and intimate. The main floor can be kind of noisy. Grilled octopus was awesome."

  • "Soy ginger salmon was delicious, and wait staff were kind and patient."

  • "I chose DC Coast to take business colleagues from out of town. It was the perfect choice: comfortable, great food, excellent service! They were delighted."

  • "What a fantastic place!! So good I went back twice. Wonderful dinner, fantastic seafood (and I'm from a seafood town) and tremendous steaks! Great service! A MUST if you go to DC"

  • "This was a great surprise. A wonderful dinning experience. Made better by open table, however the food and the service is what you should expect from an up scale restaurant. Great ambiance and outstanding service."

  • "The food is always outstanding, but I have dined there on many occasions, but the service seems to get slower and slower."

  • "Took a friend from Boston here. He had the crab cakes. I had the scallops. We each started with appetizers -he the carrot lobster soup and me the oysters. We ended with doughnuts and cheesecake and coffee. Every thing was fresh and delicious. The service was efficient, friendly, and well-trained (for example she waited until I finished my conversation before asking to take the order). The crowd is largely business types during lunch, but I wore jeans and a blazer and did not feel out of place. More importantly I was not made to feel out of place. The staff here is welcoming and professional."

  • "DC Coast had the perfect menu for a Friday night. Great appetizers (the oysters of the day were phenomenal) and a nice wine list. But you MUST try the Asian Smoked Lobster....maybe the best dish I've ever had!!! Save room for dessert, as the souffle of the day is a must have (or go for the homemade doughnuts!)"

  • "The location is great...very near metro....like the 4 course tasting menu that changes each month. Shared tastes with my companions who ordered less courses. Scallops were also great, good wine options."

  • "The wine and spirits list is just amazing (especially for vodka !). The wine selection is very nice. You can trust the waiter, who brought me the best American whisky on their list, and the best suited American wine from their list, all at reasonable prices ! The food was delicious, and in the right proportions for our European habits."

  • "I have been a fan of D.C. Coast for a decade, but the restaurant has waxed and waned during that period as menus, and presumably general managers and chefs, have changed. In its current iteration, Coast presents inventive food choices (heavy, naturally, on seafood), great wine pairings, and a charming interior design (the nautical remake of a bank). The local oysters, squash and seafood bisque, crab salad, oriental sauteed lobster on deep fried spinach, wine, and almond ice cream were first rate. The price tag was pricey. The service -- well, the restaurant might consider sending a few of its staff to waiter refresher school. Friendliness should be in, "Cafe Bouef"-like pretentiousness out."

  • "Excellent service: attentive but unobtrusive. Interesting seafood offerings. Enjoyed Norwegian salmon with honey soy glaze served with bok choy and kimche potatoes. Cheesecake spectacular."

  • "We had a nice dinner and the food was good. Nothing exceptional but great ambience and good food. Greeted upon arrival and they took our coats and briefcases and were very courteous. Service at the table was not attentive. We had to search for our waiter for refills on drinks and several times had empty glasses for long periods of time. I would and do go back because it's close to the office and consistently good (not great)."

  • "Overall, it was great. Steak quality left a bit to be desired, but all the seafood was fantastic."

  • "I've had lunch here many times. The seafood is good, salads fresh and filling, and service is excellent. Always appreciate being treated well. Professional service and classy restaurant. This is the perfect place to meet your lawyers, lobbyists, or cousins! The menu is varied, so meat lovers and vegetarians will each find something on the menu - all made excellently."

  • "We selected this restaurant based on it's ratings via the internet as a great place to celebrate my mother's 74th birthday. Everyone really enjoyed the view from the second level of service provided; with the exception of slow service. Overall the experience was very positive, especially since my mother was very impressed with menu selections, the special attention given to her, the mention of her birthday on the menu which she was given a copy for keeps, and the free desert provided. I can't tell you how much we truly enjoyed ourselves and know we will definitely return again real soon. Thank you!"

  • "I've had the fish and chips in the pas(, and it was very good. This time the batter was heavy and soggy. Disappointing."

  • "My parents and I used to love DC Coast and used to visit the restaurant every time we traveled to DC. However the restaurant disappointed us on our most recent trip. The service seemed to have gone down hill and the waitstaff seemed to have lacked the class and sophistication they used to have. The food was still great and the bar looked likely, but I won't be returning anytime soon because my experience wasn't as charming as I remembered."

  • "The food, as always, was terrific, including the unusual and delicious smoked lobster. What made the evening special this time were, first, a waiter named Rick and second, being in one of the booths, was like an upholstered private den that dimmed the energetic din of the restaurant."

  • "we chose DC Coast because it is always good, and because they had a reservation at the time we needed one. I don't usually love seafood, but my dinner on this night was fantastic. I had an apple salad and the smoked lobster chinese style, with spinach. It was delicious; I'd go back to the restaurant just for those two dishes. They were both excellent."

  • "From the bar drink that i had to send back to the table we were first given that no one else sat at because everytime the door ooened the cold blast was awful, to the incredibly poor service we received, i think we have eaten our last meal at DC Coast. My husband received his dessert before the other orders were taken and 20 minutes later the server came by when we were upset and ready to leave and apologized because she attended to the other tables NOT us. I asked for our check and said it was too late and she seemed snooty and just walked away and came back 10 minutes later. Washington has plenty of wonderful places to eat and we will just go to those."

  • "The owners and management have maintained the elegance and fine dining experience of DC Coast over the years, and it remains a GREAT Lunch or Dinner treat! And, it's location draws a Who's Who as their clientele! Food always the best - interesting, fresh, beautifully presented and served, and for a late afternoon/early evening drink or dinner - the best! Thank you! John D. Kemp"

  • "The staff was great-attentive but not overly so. The food was a big disappointment. Our appetizers were good, but the main courses (chicken for me and lobster for my husband) were terrible. I bit into a large piece of what I think was star anise and couldn't get the taste out of my mouth all night. My husband's lobster was so salty that he left most of it on his plate. We didn't stick around for dessert. Maybe it was an off-night in the kitchen."

  • "Lovely place, just didn't give it very high marks as crab cakes were overpriced. They came with quite a bland hash mix, which my mother-in-law was not impressed with. My dishes were both really nice though. Was very quiet as was a weekday lunchtime in between Christmas and New Year. Will return."
