DBDG was perfect for a reunion of six high school and college friends. Although the restaurant can get loud, we felt intimate in a booth perfect for six. The price points are reasonable and the menu offered a good variety of options for people who had different budgets in mind. The spaghetti is highly recommended, and one friend said the Piggie Burger was one of the best she's ever had. The sorbets and ice creams were good, but not extraordinary, and the cocktails we ordered were just OK. But for ambiance, food quality and service, we would definitely recommend DBDG for a group!

overall the food and atmosphere were great. they also have an extensive beer & wine list which i loved. but since it was the weekend and the restaurant was extremely busy, the wait staff didn't come by as often as usual. it was also a bit noisy so it was hard to have a conversation.

Everyone at DBGB was most pleasant. From the front of the house, the waitstaff and the invisible cooking crew. Food was very good. No huge surprise but we did not expect any. So all good. Could have been different if it had not been a slow summer evening at the restaurant. We were told they could not find our OpenTable reservation but that we could be seated any way. So all's well that ends well...this time!

  • Disappointing Service
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 8/19/2014
I've been to DBGB a number of times and was struck by how unexpectedly poor the service was this time. Waitress was inattentive; had to be repeatedly signaled after we were waiting to give an order; didn't come back to timely check on our food. To top it off, they made an error on the bill, and then marked us as a no-show on our OpenTable reservation (had to send them the receipt information to fix it). This is a great restaurant and this was hopefully a one-time occasion. Would hate to have to give it up up due to declining service standards.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal while catching up with old friends this past Saturday. I had the spaghetti w/ sausage, and it was a good portion size & the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The sausage was flavorful, and the sauce was great. Unfortunately, the service was terribly lacking. We were seated without menus & no one came to greet our table or bring us water or menus for over 10 mins. I finally had to flag down an employee to ask for menus & water. No one came back to check on our meals after our food was delivered. My friend asked for a dessert menu but didn't get it until much later. By then, we were tired from waiting & decided to forgo desserts. It really ruined what would otherwise have been a great restaurant experience.

DBGB seemed like a standard restaurant that could be found in the bowery. the ambiance was very nice, and the food selection was decent, considering it was restaurant week. the cocktails were probably the best part of the experience. my one qualm with the experience, was that the service was a little slow. granted, the restaurant was a bit busy, but it was a bit unnerving to see some of the waitstaff just twiddling their thumbs when i simply needed to order another a drink, or even give them my credit card for payment. overall though, no complaints.

Choose this place because the restaurant week menu had great options. I had the oysters (4 is just the right number for me) and the Farm House Sausage and everything was very tasty. Reservations were early so I can't confirm the noise level stays low but they had the great little alcoves along oneside that sat 6 and created a comfortable looking nook where you could enjoy dinner with friends.

A lovely restaurant Week meal spoiled quite a bit by inept, and unresponsive, service. Proper utensils delivered after our food arrived. Long wait for drink-comped the drink as a result. Asked to have air conditioning turned down as the restaurant was freezing, with a strong blast of cold air blowing through the restaurant. Waited 15 minutes and had to remind the server. Food was really good, and great value, but.....

Two cheese pals and I were really looking forward to our lunch. The restaurant was surprisingly empty, and the service incredibly slow. Lunch took almost 2 hours! The fish sandwich was excellent, as were the appetizers. The featured desserts boring, tho highly recommended by the waiter, who really ignored us the whole time.

Promising start for our small gathering, with good cocktails and attentive service that slid downhill. A 20 minute wait for a beer that never materialized (except on the check), only to be told that a good third of the beer menu was AWOL (along with our waiter). Passable pate as good as any cheap bistro in Paris gave way to good steak ruined by a mountain of salt. They can hardly be blamed for the obnoxious group of loudly-shouting slacks-and-baseball-capped chaps gathered by the bar, other than that the clientele perhaps reflect the establishment. The 10 dollars a pop bottles of water were probably to be expected but left us relived that we were only paying restaurant week prices. I guess we'll never know what the *real* menu is like.

This is place for a perfect candle lit dinner date or a catch up with friends over some delicious food and awesome drinks list. The idea that you get to see the kitchen and the chefs is really cool, not to mention the incredible ambiance! It's close quarters but you don't feel squished in, it gives you plenty of room for your own conversations. The food is the kind you should go on a empty stomach and try everything! The presentation is beautiful and there's great selections. Dessert is also a must!

We went for Restaurant Week. There were 8 of us and we were seated in a comfortable booth that allowed everyone to hear each other. All of us enjoyed our food. I'm very glad that for Restaurant Week, DBGB offers a wide variety of selections that represents, rather than waters down, its regular menu. It's a place I would be interested to try again in the future.

We went for NY Restaurant Week, and the food was really quite extraordinary: my corn soup was amazingly thick and smooth, and my Frenchie Burger, with pork belly and a fabulous tomato confit, was equally wonderful. But the noise, My God, The Noise!! The music is so loud that ordinary conversation is well-nigh impossible, and thus conversation gets louder, and so forth. The ultimate effect is to ruin a lovely meal.

This is a review based on our restaurant week experience. SERVICE: The service was pretty terrible. We had to ask the bus boy and host both for our waiter to even take our orders. We noticed ALL the other tables had been served bread, but we were never offered any. It took a good half hour for our appetizers to come out. We were in a bit of a rush, so we asked for dessert to come out with our entrees. They did NOT. Overall, the lunch was nearly 2hrs. FOOD: The food was disappointingly mediocre I got the pate, sausage, chocolate peanut sundae. For $25, you can a significantly better experience at other restaurants. The pate was fine. I was probably expecting a little more out of my entree (everything was greasy) and didn't finish it.

Came here with family of 4 for restaurant week on Sunday lunch. The hostess was very nice and he helped us to put away a walker in the front. After we sat down, a waitress greeted us and allowed us time to look over the menu. There are not too much choices for brunch. They are famous for sausages and burgers so we ordered a sausage plate and burger dish along with the two restaurant week meal. It was busy on Sunday so our food took a while to come. The sausage plate for the restaurant week was smaller compared to last year's. The burger was delicious. I told the waitress no whip cream on my dessert but she forgot but then fix it afterwards. It was my 2nd time here and still think that the menu was limited. Hope to see more selections.

I've really wanted to try this restaurant for a while, so maybe that's why I'm so critical of this place. First, the good. For restaurant week, the entree portions were very generous. The beer selection was top notch including a unique Russian River beer I'd never heard of before and couldn't find on rate beer. Neat! Now the bad. Nothing really stood out about my meal. Certainly not like cafe baloud, which was fantastic. The appetizer was 3 or 4 oysters. Meh. Beacon restaurant served a half dozen smoked oysters so, 3 or 4 oysters seemed pretty pathetic. The side tables are setup poorly. One side of the table goes totally unused. Very difficult to have a conversation with everyone at the table. In short, I feel no urge to go back.

Went here for restaurant week. The chilled corn soup (appetizer) was overly sweet, honestly not at all enjoyable. The chickpea cavatelli and cherry beer ice cream were both delicious. The service was good and the restaurant itself has a really great vibe (quotes related to food all over the wall, including one by Homer Simpson, hah). Not sure if I would personally go back, but I think it is a restaurant worth visiting at least once, if only for the ice cream!
