Certainly not at bistrot price, but it deserves each dollar. I had the finest maine lobster salad ever, even considering. the sauce was a notch more spicy than my taste would have preferred. My wife chose a tartare tuna and found it delicious. The restaurant deco is moderne, nice and elegant.

  • Wonderful but watch the salt
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

The service was wonderful, getting us out for the theatre, just as requested. The tastes and combination of flavors were outstanding. -- were still taking about the dressing in the kale and the apples in the cauliflower soup. BUT the main course (monkfish, spinach, spaghetti squash) was so salty we left some of it. The maitre d' offered to being a new dish (no time for that) and assured us our comments would be taken seriously. Sad to ruin a great dish with over salting. We actually wondered if it had mistakenly been salted twice.. once before cooking and then again after. Appetizers and salads were amazing, desserts were unique and delightful. I'd try again!

Another great Daniel Boulud restaurant; this one with a New York bistro feel, a hip bar up front and competent service. Once again, the food doesn't disappoint. Fresh, many locally-sourced ingredients expertly prepared and with tasty and creative flavors. Heavily French wine list and interesting cocktails tempt. His famous heart-attack-on-a-plate burger and fries seemed to be popular and the prix fixe menu was more creative than many. Service was attentive, courteous and prompt. The food starred, though. Have never been disappointed at any of his New York locations.

Mediocre food. Waiter was lovely, but we were rushed by management. Noise level ridiculously loud, you can't hold a normal conversation, it becomes a shouting match. The only "noise level" selection I could make above was "energetic." That's a nice way of putting it--and completely disingenuous. It was too loud--the rooms are small, over-stocked with diners, and the sound has nowhere to go--not to mention the too-loud sound-system that sets the threshold. Tables stacked so closely together they may as well just have one large table and you can dine with everyone else in the room. There are many, many restaurants in NYC. This one can be skipped and you haven't missed anything.

We traveled to NYC for a few days to celebrate our anniversary. The db Bistro Moderne was recommended by friend and surpassed our expectations. Every dish was impeccably prepared and presented- we started with PÂTÉ EN CROÛTE and FOIE GRAS TERRINE enjoying every bite. Then for entrees Duck Breast and Hanger Steak and again were very pleased. The wine list is extensive and we were delighted to see such a deep selection of Bordeaux and opted for the St. Emillion Grand Cru. The wait staff were attentive yet unobtrusive and quickly adapted to our pace. The only drawback was the tight spacing of tables and building noise level for this very popular restaurant.

I loved the restaurant from the moment we entered. So different from the tacky restaurants lining Broadway and Times Square just moments away. It's quiet and intimate making it perfect for couples and special occasions. The food is fantastic though that is to be expected! The wine list is fab, but so too is the cocktail and craft beer menu (which was important to us.) Couldn't find faulg in anything!

My wife and daughter really enjoyed their dishes (Arctic Char and Sea Bass) but I ordered the burger expecting something really special. Unfortunately I was disappointed on the flavor as well as the construction.... You'd think the burger would be out together so a normal person could bite it. It's so tall it really is difficult to eat. The Pomme Frites were very good.

We were unable to book at Daniel's so chose to give db Moderne a try...the bistro didn't meet expectations, we were utterly unimpressed. Having dined at other Boulud restaurants we were perhaps spoiled? Service was the first failing, they weren't particularly busy yet our staff seemed to be rushing around failing to take and/or bring orders in a timely/courteous manner. Our starters (gazpacho & foie gras) were good but not great, our mains (bacon-wrapped monkfish & tiger prawn risotto) were not bad enough to send back, but not at all satisfying in preparation or their luke-warm temperature. The dessert was the best part of our meal. I cancelled our brunch reservation for the following day based on our dinner experience.

Delicious highlight to a NYC long weekend! Dined Sat night pre-theatre. Enjoyed (in every sense of the word) the amuse of roasted red pepper quiche; appetizers of fava crostini, and mini falafel balls with dill tzatiki (could've eaten a plate of each); heirloom tomato salad with fresh burratta; mains of the robiolo ravioli with chanterelles, spinach and corn, and the hanger steak with grilled polenta and romesco sauce; desserts of the warm chocolate fondant, and the cafe brulot. My only tiny issue was that I wasn't in love with the roasted marrow appetizer, as I found it way too pink and without flavour. I prefer mine roasted longer. Service perfectly attentive, in the dining room. Will definitely return on my next visit to NYC.

For a french bistro it seems a real shame they were unable to produce the iconic Duck Confit that was edible. The first clue was that I cut for two to three minutes before I could get a piece! I have NEVER sent a meal back, but this was as the french would say "abominable"!! The staff was apologetic, and did their best to make up for it, including providing a complimentary alternate entree. The Coq Au Vin was a big improvement, but when a dish is way too salty, as this classic was, is it an easy substitute for real flavor? I have been to DBModerne on several occasions, and was very sad to say the least.

Ordered the price fix monk fish. It was so hard I had to use a knife to cut it. Mgmt took the price of the entree off and the bill was still $174 with the tip. Asked not to be placed near toilet and was seated right near the door to the hallway to the toilet. Also asked not to be seated next to the kitchen and was seated next to the servers station. Horrible dining experience. Only thing done well was the server. I'll be sure to let all my friends and business acquaintances know. Shame on the chef!

We had not been there in about a year and visited on Sunday evening after enjoying a matinee Broadway performance. Also, the burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer special was incredibly flavorful! We try to dine there every summer when in NYC and will continue to do so!

Not totally up to the standards I'd expect from Boloud. Actually that probably isn't quite fair. I had fava crostini which i liked, dining partner had good escargot. Salads above standard. He had a fairly good steak and I had the best tasting coq au vin ever. Dish was made with three legs which seemed odd but tasty. Only real down were the frites. Tasted frozen and not nearly as good as those at Ca Va the night before.

Daniel Boloud is to be thanked for adding this restaurant to the NY City scene. I needed something light yet elegant for a key business meeting and it hit the mark. Although a little noisy (hey, it is a bistro afterall) it was a great setting to have a business discussion and also enjoy food and wine. A bit pricey but worth the money.

DB Bistro is a very nice restaurant. If Daniel Boulud put his name, I believe in that restaurant. The food is outstanding. I had the burger and is not an ordinary burger, is a real gourmet burger. The desserts are great. The place is quiet, really calm and pleasant. The only observations are: 1. I had a reservation for 9h45 and the kitchen closes at 10h00, no one told me about it when I made the reservation. 2. My wife asked for a ravioli, and asked for the small option. The flavor was amazing, but the size was really really small.

This is my third time at DB and it is one of my favorites. I enjoyed the Mediterrean Sea Bass which was cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed the DB Burger. Everytime he had a bite there was another gastronomic surprise. Also loved the amuse bouche and decadant desert tastes. Our only disappointment was the tomato with cheese tart. No tart, more like toppings on a flatbread.

I often have to visit NY on business and often stay at the Sofitel near Times Square. I discovered this restaurant simply because it a few doors away from the entrance to the Sofitel. I learned that this is run by Daniel Boulud the magnificent chef of Daniel, but this is a lower tier restaurant. In my book, I prefer it to Daniel for several reasons: (1) it is much more fun and lively, (2) it is far less expensive, and (3) the food is consistently inventive and delicious. Not a pedestrian dish on the menu. And yet you pay not much more, if at all, than at other good restaurants that cannot match the brilliance of this cuisine.

We were there at six o'clock for dinner. At 6:30 the waiter came over and unceremoniously took away our menus and said the prix fixe dinner time was over and gave us new menus. No alert in advance, no explanation. Very abrupt. To avoid embarrassing our guests we just joked about it. But this was very poor behavior by the waiter. Food was ok but not great. Portions were too small. For the price you can do better. Daniel needs to supervise more closely the quality of his subsidiary restaurants for service and food quality. Unless there is improvement we will not be back any time soon. This one has gone downhill over the years.
