Diner Reviews
  • "WE WERE MADE TO FEEL WELCOME AND ALL OUR REQUESTS FULFILLED, EVEN AT RESTAURANT WEEK. LOVELY RED WINE AVAILABLE AT A GOOD PRICE FOR THE BOTTLE. NICE EXTRAS BEFORE AND AFTER, AND THE CHARRED TOAST WITH THE CHARCUTERIE PLATE WAS FABULOUS."

  • "Only for few day in New York,we had a great diner on Saturday night to Modern Bistrot. French food, french wine with a very good service. I will recommand this address and I will come back next time in New York"

  • "We don't usually eat in the theater district, but this was in walking distance so we gave it a try. The food was excellent. We choose from the prix fix because everyone found something they would have ordered anyway. The service was great and when the yummie bread basket was empty they brought more. The desserts were beautiful and tasted just as good. One of the best deals in that area"

  • "After dining at Daniel Boulard's two establishments in the Lincoln Center area and having wonderful meals, we had high expectations for our meal here. This experience was far from adequate. To begin the meal, I ordered a charcuterie plate. This dish was meager containing few of the staples . There were three thin slices of sausage and three very thin slices of something that resembled chicken roll. These six slices were approximately between the size of a twenty five cent and a fifty cent coin. In addition, there were two thin slices of pate rounding out the dish. Moving on to the main course we encountered a tasteless piece of swordfish that was the size of of a hamburger chain's burger The 2010 Pinot Noir was a good selection."

  • "In the last year the restaurant for totally redone. It is beautiful, comfortable and pleasant. The prix fixe menu before matinee theater was excellent. Service was not stuffy but extremely competent. Could not have been a better experience! Could find no fault."

  • "A delicious, elegant, fine food restaurant with a low key, comfortable and vibrant ambiance, great food, terrific service and inviting decor. In short, db Bistro has it all."

  • "The food was great, as was the service. Very loud though. The decor is very modern."

  • "I found this restaurant while looking for one to try out for Restaurant Week, and it really delivered! The food was well-prepared and delicious, the service was wonderful, and I didn't feel like the chefs were skimping on portions even though we were getting such a good deal. I would highly recommend this restaurant as a nice place to try for the Restaurant Week prix fixe menu and would consider returning to sample other full-price items."

  • "Came here for Restaurant Week. Lack of proper service- never asked if we wanted anything to drink. Food was decent, portion is very small, and price is unreasonable."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "The meal was just average which was a disappointment given that all prior meals we had at this restaurant were exceptional. Also, the portions were very small so we left the restaurant hungry."

  • "Yes, I use Restaurant Week to explore new places. And yes, I know that it usually doesn't represent a restaurant's best foot forward. I've factored that into my ratings. Overall, this is a solid place. Good food - inventive but not too far out there. Good, attentive service. The decor is simple, although perhaps slightly outdated. I felt the Restaurant Week menu was a good value. The dessert rocked! My lunch companion ordered a la carte, as he couldn't resist trying their famous burger. He loved it. In my opinion, $35 is a little steep, but I guess it is one of their signature dishes and is stuffed with all sorts of goodness."

  • "My wife and I had planned a mid-week Manhattan getaway to celebrate her birthday. We could not have picked a more perfect spot for this special occasion. The NY Restaurant Week menu was three excellent courses and I had a well-chosen glass of Red Rhone which complemented my food. The service was attentive, polite and thoroughly professional. They even remember that when I made the reservation it was for my wife's birthday and brought her a candle-lit chocolate dessert which was deliciously decadent. We certainly would re-visit for another special occasion although this is not a place for casual dining. In short, it was a most satisfying experience."

  • "Their burger is the most amazing thing. Who doesn't love a burger stuffed with more meat?"
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "The service was excellent. Appetizer salad of Maine Lobster Claw over greens was refreshing and tasty. Pre-dinner cocktails were varied in choice and well mixed and presented. Perfect wine list to match all menu items. Risotto amuse bouche made me wish I had ordered the risotto. Lamb was perfectly cooked and served with a variety of tastes on the plate so no two bites were ever the same. Dessert was the only stumble. Chocolate Macadamia dessert was fine but seemed a little one dimensional after the main. Serviceable but not exceptional latte."

  • "We chose the a la carte menu. Reasonably priced for the theater district with very attentive service. Had an excellent hanger steak."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Consistently good French food. It can be a bit pricey, but the prix fixe menu is a good deal. Good service."

  • "Great service. Responsive and great food. Quiet. Easy to talk with friends."

  • "Since it opened, DB Moderne has always been a favorite with consistently good food but my recent dinner had serious flaws with almost every dish. The burger was dry , the steak too salty and salad that was flavorless. Service was excellent."

  • "We were going to the theatre & had a lovely dinner at db bistro. Although the menu is limited we were able to find the gems on the menu!! We shared the charcuterie platter as an appetizer, and we each had an entre. I had the risotto with prawns....yummy & my husband had fish... Also very good. Lovely wine selection.. We shared the yummy benign dessert."

  • "At this familiar mid-town anchor, once-bright bistro fare has declined to the level of other neighborhood standards relying on the seldom-in-town crowd."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The resturant looks very trendy, upscale with new decor-but the food was just ok. The Beet Salad and Chocolate Fondant were the highlights in an otherwise boring meal. Risotto was mushy and flavourless and the ravioli was also unexceptional. Small portions, too. The service was excellent but I would not go back."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "We both had their $39 burger. For all the great stuff on it, it sure wasn't impressive together. The fries were better. Had the cheese plate and didn't care for 3 of the 5 cheeses."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "We eat all over the world and travel often. The food and ambiance were amazing! We were very, very pleased with the quality, the presentation and the amount of our servings. We lived in Basel, Switzerland - next to the Alsace region of France and so were very excited to see the tarte flambe on the menu - which we of course, ordered! It was wonderful! My international firm is near this restaurant and so I will be coming here quite often and look forward to hosting a private event at your restaurant as well."

  • "Achieving status as a classic New York restaurant is no easy thing. DBBM delivers, every time, in a space befitting our great city and with service to match. It deserves recognition for quality and consistency, which so many newer dining experiences fail to match."

  • "enjoyed the relaxed yet refined atmosphere at brunch. everything was well prepared and enjoyable."
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "I thought it was strange that they sat us (party of 2) at a weird corner end of a banquette when there was no one else in the lower portion of the restaurant and everyone else was seated upstairs. Other than the strange seating, the prix fixe menu was good and the wine pairings were all delicious."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Restaurant had a great ambience and the food was spectacular. I would describe their food as very enjoyable, light to the palate but very tasty, and definitely NOT too salty. We ordered the tuna tartar, beet salad, the swordfish, and dover sole. And, highly recommend an order of madelines for dessert!"
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The food was generally good. We had the quite pricey Dover sole that was hand filleted. It unfortunately came with some bones. Also, our waiter was not terribly attentive."

  • "Picked this place for a business lunch because a colleague had heard about their famous burger. It was a good choice. Food was terrific - we all had something different but all choices were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Dining room is small but comfortable, and was buzzing during our lunch but we were still able to have a good conversation. I chose the hangar steak, which was so tender you could cut it with a knife. Service was very attentive."

  • "We come here often before the theatre and just love it. Love the new room arrangement and the booths. Three of us had the coq au vin and it was absolutely delicious, as was my tuna tartar appetizer. Service is professional, friendly and smooth, with no problem getting us out for a 7:00 show. And I love the amuse bouche and the little touch of free sweet desserts at the end."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Portions are tiny though delicious, so for someone like me (I watch my sugar so portion control is important) this works very well. Wines are very pricey. Service in one word is impeccable."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "went there after the theatre at 10:15pm and were delighted with the excellent wine list and great French styled food. I could have selected about 15 wines that represented the Napa Valley, France, Italy and more. The coq au vin was to die for. Highly recommend this restaurant for it's superb ambience."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "I always wanted to try the hamburger. It was very good. The short ribs inside were very tender and I loved the fois gras. The steak tartare was also delicious. The onion and cheese flatbread was also good. The wine was great. The coq au vin and duck confit were also ordered and everyone enjoyed their meal. Even though I usually don't like orange flavored things, the dessert with the orange marshmallows was delicious I cannot speak for the bar scene because we were there for an early dinner following a show."

  • "Daniel Boulud is one of my favorite chefs...so I had no hesitation trying db Bistro. We went for a pre theater dinner and were not disappointed. All the food that came was delicious. From the appetizer to dessert. Not a touristy spot like most Times Sq places. Food was well above average but not as stellar as some of his other spots. But saying that is still a huge complement, since other Daniel spots are among the best ever. I would definitely recommend the Pre-Fix menu for a wonderful Pre Theater dinner."

  • "Food was stunning and delicious. Excellent service. Great for pre- theater, too. A gem on 44th Street. Five stars!"
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Although we had made a reservation a week in advance, we were seated by the front door, witness to all comings and goings. Our unshaven waiter looked and acted like he had just rolled out of bed. He offered the minimum. That aside, the food was excellent for three out of four of us. The fourth got a bland pasta dish. The wine list seemed extremely priced. We made it to our show without a problem. Yes, there was a price fixe menu that was reasonably priced. We wanted to try other things, as it was our first visit. No complaints about the food, but the rest of the experience offered no reason for returning."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "So few good restaurants in the theater district. Found this on open table, familiar with other Daniel Boulud restaurants, so was anxious to try it. Did the prefix, excellent choices, delicious from start to finish! Service was attentive, not intrusive. Really great experience, will definitely return."
