Diner Reviews
  • "Delightful dining experience. The cocktails are refreshing and the food is scrumptious. And the roasred potatoes are to die for - Kudos"

  • "very attentive service with helpful explanations and suggestions. Very tasty dishes from start to finish with 3 people sampling multiple different items. Right-priced. Nice new establishment---will be back"

  • "We dined here celebrating our anniversary. The restaurant was less than half full and seemed "dead" compared to other local restaurants. The only person to acknowledge or special occasion was the hostess - the server or manager never said anything. We tried a lot of dishes and everything was one note. Disappointed all the way around."

  • "We made a nice discovery on our way back to Hana The food was excellent and at a very reasonable price Would definitively recommend"

  • "We enjoyed this dinner among the top 3 or four evenings out in Maui. There were two adults and two kids and everyone found something to please. The Ono was perfect and the Bi Bim Bop was really fantastic w prawns. The desserts are worth saving a wee bit if room for. We choose from the pastry case. Overall, a place we would return to again with cool decor and excellent cocktails. Happy hour is a great value but nothing is overpriced on reg menu at all. Try it!!"

  • "We were very impressed with the quality and taste of all the dishes our group of four had at dinner. Salads were fresh and colorful and great tasting. The soup was divine and every dish we had was really memorable. The beef, the pasta, the fish, all plates were rewarding to every ones taste buds, and the Chocolate Mac pie was to die for. The amounts were on the light side, but the quality and taste were well worth coming to Dazoo. I also must say that the drinks were great. The Mojito and the Mai Tai were fantastic and the choice of local / Hawaiian beer was very good. Great overall and would recommend Dazoo to everyone."

  • "For Maui's scene, Dazoo is a great pick-me-up for a little bit of that mainland flavor and ambiance. When you go you don't feel like you're being given that forced island vibe that most local restaurants thrive on. The restaurant is forward with it's intentions and style, and it seems to be doing it's thing regardless of being on Maui, which is nice. Our waitress seemed a little cold, a bit bland, and not too helpful. I think she was interested in a 10-top of ladies further back in the restaurant, which coming from the food industry, I can understand, but I would have liked to feel that she was a little more excited to be seating us. Meatballs and dessert were our favorites."

  • "we LOVED Dazoo... the PhoBang and Morning Wood cocktails were exceptional... delivered by their fabulous creator bartender Jimmy, who holds the state title of (i'm not sure... exactly) best mixologist... or grand champion ... or ask them... and they'll tell you... the meal was phenomenal... Marnell provided great suggestions and excellent personal service to each of us... the sweet potato croquettes, and Dazoo ulu taro chips were incredible... we would have ordered just that in a bowl for an entrée if they offered it. the gluten free desserts were also sensational. basically we loved everything about the evening ... the food, the service, the ambiance... terrific. we shared everything family style for the 5 of us. perfect."

  • "Food is surprisingly good..didn't really know what to expect. .was pleasantly surprised. .enjoyed everything. .A bit loud. They need some kind of solution for the sound level..but.. The food makes up for that and can be over looked. .must dine here..you will love it.."

  • "All the people and the food seemed 'lethargic". The whole place needed some energy. When the servers brought the food there were no descriptions or excitement. The food was good but a little inconsistent. Not quite what we expected by a fairly new place."

  • "I'm uncommonly noise sensitive. That said, Dazoo by 6:30 PM on a recent Wednesday night was noisy enough that if the dining had been anything but remarkable, innovative, and exciting, I'd be complaining and seriously dinging the restaurant on its overall rating. Fact is, the food met all those criteria in such a stellar way that I'd have been happy if I'd been eating in a disco on the main floor of Grand Central Station on New Year's Eve... well... New Year's Eve was probably a step too far... probably. Can't wait for a chance to go back."

  • "There aren't that many top-quality restaurants in East Maui outside of the big hotels. The Hali'imaile General Store has been pretty much alone, until now. Dazoo took over the space of a second-tier restaurant and serves terrific, original food at a fair price. With Dazoo in Paia and Nuka in Haiku, the food scene here is really looking up!"

  • "A great healthy choice for dining in Pa'ia. Lots of Asian-inspired vegetarian dishes but also enough to satisfy carnivores. Menu is mostly small plates, with a few entrees as well. Decent wine selection and ample spirits with a talented bartender. Service is very friendly, cheerful and attentive. We ate here 3 times (2 dinners, 1 lunch) during our week-long stay in Haiku. Hope it's still there on our next visit to Maui."

  • "I went through Open Table for a reservation instead of calling Dazoo. There were only 3 times available for several days after we wanted to eat there. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty. The manager said they could have seated us at any time we would have wanted. Told him about the times we were offered. Needless to say, he was not happy with Open Table. The same happened to us for eating at Mama's Fish House. We waited 10 days to get a table. People who were there just walked in a got seated. Some one should be checking the website.!!! :-("

  • "We didn't realize when we reserved a table for Valentine's Day that they only had a fixed menu for dinner. In any case, we enjoyed our selections -- I had a very tasty Chicken Breast on an Asian veggie medley, my hubby had the Mahimahi with Quinoa and both were yummy. The meatball appetizer and spinach/beet/goat cheese salad were both delicious, the meatballs exceptionally tasty. Ended with a coconut sorbet and creme brulet which were both good. The only gripe is the price of $50ea, and the length of time it took to bring out our entree's (apx. 30 mins)...."

  • "our waiter was ok but our food runner was really helpful. we did have to ask them to refill our water a few times... but the food is really good. we ordered the ssam and liked how you actually built your own (in the past we've had it already wrapped). the condiments for the ssam were awesome. i even spoke to the owner then the chef about what was in the korean seaweed salad. the hamakua mushrooms are to die for. i was tempted to place a second order! desserts are delicious too. that has got to be the best lilikoi cheesecake i've ever had. yum!"

  • "What a wonderful find. Just open and really outstanding. Chef and senior staff From Seattle. Farm to table menu. I had the chicken and it was amazing! My husband had the pork loin. Again amazing! Our sons has the pasta - terrific! And also the SSAM. That was truly inventive and great!! Desserts absolutely GREAT! Try Dazoo!! It is great and that's saying a lot from a family from the Wine Country In Northern California!!"

  • "Nice Paia restaurant with great contemporary decor, but too many hard surfaces made place loud and uncomfortable. Maui has many outstanding restaurants so while the food was good, it did not have the "wow" factor. Dazoo can fix this by offering bigger portions, especially on the entrees. Server was friendly, but food came out late for people we came with, drink order forgotten."

  • "First time everything we liked except very long wait for food...very long with no real reason bust but good management can handle that, every one was waiting."

  • "We made reservations for 2 for Sunday brunch. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet, 1 table of 7 and three or four tables of 2. We placed our order, I ordered a veggie omelet and my wife ordered a Korean rice bowl. Then we waited... Shortly after we ordered, they started warning newcomers that there would be a 40 minute wait for food, due to a table of 7 that had put them behind. At this time, there was only 1 table besides ours, that did not have it's food. 45 minutes after ordering, our food arrived. My omelet was hot and delicious, but my home fries were cold. My wife had requested brown rice, but the sent white, which she ate, for fear of waiting again. The food was delicious, but they really need to work on the service."

  • "Our meal at Dazoo was without a doubt the best and most creative food we've ever had in Maui. Using mostly local foods, the menu, though small, offered a wide variety. Our waiter, Matthew was gracious, helpful, efficient and charming. The owner, host, went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Most importantly our meals were wonderful, and delighted the palate."

  • "I really wanted to give Dazoo good ratings but we all thought that the menu was too small, the portions too small, the food just mediocre and the service slow. There weren't many people there when we first arrived but it still took 20 minutes to get drinks. I walked away still hungry with nothing left to order. They ran out of the special early on and if our server had come back to take our order sooner, we may have been able to order it. Maybe it's just time that will help .. Recommend more menu options, larger portions, faster service. Mai Tais were very good however."

  • "Loved this place and the food was delicious, plates were well thought out, and the service great. The place has only been open just over a month, but we loved it and will certainly go back. The decor was mid-uplift, but it still felt inviting and not sterile despite the walls being freshly painted (no art). This place will soon be hard to get in so get your reservations now."

  • "Unusual location that is a slightly off the main walkway, that hides the great food within. Really unique creations! Large space with lots of big tables and it seems too much staff - really good service. We brought 4 kids that were vulturing the adults meals (they were that good). Definitely something different from the ordinary and worth going out of your way."

  • "DaZoo has an eclectic menu filled with locally sourced, deliciously created food. Small, medium and large sized plates make this spot a great place to really dig into the menu. We tried several menu items and there wasn't a mediocre bite among them. Whoever's in the kitchen really has a good imagination and a clear vision on how to highlight local Maui produce, meats and fish. Highlights were the Kauai Prawns, the Meatballs and the Hamakua Mushrooms. DaZoo also has an imaginative cocktail list, beers, wine and delicious locally flavored shrubs. Go to DaZoo, you WILL return."

  • "Love the town of PAIA, great to watch the surfers, wind surfers and kite boarders, and was looking for a less touristy place than the normal restaurants in Lahaina. Wanted something with some local flavor. The menu was so creative and unique, but there was something for everyone. Delicious and gourmet food, in a casual, laid back atmosphere. It was a home run. Must try all the sides, Sweet potato fritters, winged beans, mushrooms; they were all incredible."

  • "During our trip to Maui decided to drive to Hana and wanted to have dinner in Paia. Went on Open Table and found Moana Cafe. What a gem-a fabulous find. Had the soup of the evening which had a coconut milk, pineapple and we did not want it to end. All our entrees were scrumptious. Had the local fish, my husband the Korean osso bucco and my daughter had the soy chile flank steak. This was one of the best meals we had on vacation and we visited high end to local restaurants. The lemon grass creme brulee was the best we have ever had. We wish we lived closer!! Anyone who visits Paia MUST eat here!!"

  • "Truly special brunch options with the home fries stealing the show! Fine egg dishes to go with them:). Friendly servers. Nice spot in Paia for brunch or breakfast. Didn't go there for lunch or dinner."

  • "We went for the early bird 3 course fixed price dinner special for $20pp. The dinner is under new management and the service is outstanding. We ordered the sweet potato croquette, cinnamon tamarind pork ribs, orange thai curry and the flourless chocolate torte. The sweet potato croquette was very good, the pork ribs and orange thai curry was good and the chocolate torte was good as well but standard. For $20, this is very good value and the food is pretty good."
