Lunch with business associates or
just alone to unwind is always a pleasurable break from the work day. The service is welcoming and efficient and the food never fails to please. I always feel both satisfied and reinvigorated after having a midday break at this neighborhood favorite."

I brought in a group of people (6)
from spain two of whom had never had Indian food before. Dawat provided a good introduction. Thank you"

Both the standards and the less
often encountered Fos were delicious, service fine but not excessive nor too "friendly" Atmosphere ok but not special Will certainly return often"

Lovely presentation of delectable
Indian food with confident service in a quiet atmosphere. Reasonable prices. We talked after the meal for several hours without being rushed out on a Saturday night."

Extensive menu with excellent
descriptions-- very helpful to someone who doesn't often eat Indian food. Service was excellent."

I booked a table for 2 whilst on
holiday in New York for my boyfriends birthday. After getting off the subway it did take us a couple of minutes to find but what a find it was! The food is incredible and even before you order there are these amazing cumin studded poppadoms on the table with a spicey dip. You can see the chef making them through the glass window into the kitchen. Now I am vegetarian and quite fussy as I don't enjoy spicey food and they accomodate for everythijg! I had a wonderful dish of paneer in a mild (they ask how hot you would like your food) creamy tomato sauce and my boyfriend had chicken jalfrezi 2hich he said was delicious. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, even if you aren't crazy about curry."

Some dishes are great; others just
ok. Previous likes turned out mediocre. specials are to be tried. But a lovely Christmas Eve dinner filled with a mature crowd - a warm place on a cold night."

We ate at Dawat pre-theater. There
were no other diners in the restaurant when we arrived, but the staff made us feel really welcome, but not in an overbearing way. They helped us select drinks. We ate the vegetarian thali sampler and it was so amazing. Such great flavors and a good amount of spice. It was also fun watching the tandoori cook in the glassed in room while we waited for our food. Overall, a great experience!"

I tried the 3 course lunch option
when I visited Dawat on Christmas Day. Very reasonably priced restaurant. The staff was polite and attentive without hovering. The dishes were flavorful and the portions were generous. The chicken chettinad, black dal, pullao (rice) and saag paneer (spinach with squares homemade cheese) of were some of the best I've eaten. The staff packed up all the remaining food so that I could enjoy the leftovers another day."

DAWAT is a standby, but by no
means ho-hum. Reliable AND fresh and delicious. THere's a lunch special, and we had a quiet time on the Saturday after THanksgiving when the city is stuffed with shoppers, students on break, and everyone else. What a joy!"

Good authentic Indian food. I like
the Madhur Jafri style of cooking Indian food. She is a great chef. I ordered the vegetarian thali, which had an assortment of well prepared vegetable dishes. Service was quick, but not too attentive. For dessert we tried the kulfi ( not the best , I have had much better elsewhere) , but the Ras Malai was good. Overall I would go back for the food. Decor was lacking."

Dawat was recommended to us by a
NYC native, and we were not disappointed. Delicious food, terrific service, and a highlight of our dining experiences in a week spent in NYC."

Had the tasting menu, with the 1st
course it was very good, but. The main course the leg of lamb was very over cooked and dried out, the paneer tasted like canned spinach was used, the chicken was good. The service was great."

Dawat is nothing particularly
grand to look at, but the food is exceptional. The restaurant sits a couple of steps down from street level, and the interior is shop-worn. Still, the waitstaff wear black and white, with tie, and they are quite attentive. The food is delicious. We ordered two of the special mixed dinners, one a grilled selection and the other with seafood. I would definitely recommend this place to friends."

Indian food is one of our
favorites for the interesting vegan options which Dawat offers. Many of their vegetarian options can also be done vegan. They also honor our low oil request. Our best Indian restaurant ever anywhere!"

Dawat is a high end Indian
restaurant that has an excellent and unique menu. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it for a great dining experience."

Perhaps my 12 th visit over the
years. I have always enjoyed Dawat when we return to NYC , and have once again taken two friends to see how good Indian cuisine ,done well, can be. This visit the place is looking somewhat dated with wall repairs obvious and not as clean appearing. That being said...the food continues to impress. All 3 of us at this lunch enjoy and even cook Indian cuisine. Dawat impressed my guests and continues to be a special event for me.Great place for people who love great Indian cuisine. Also great to introduce the new less experienced foodie to how good Indian food can be when done well with great spicing, produce and execution. Terrific dinner and lunch. They could use to update the interior of the restaurant. Please"

We were given a nice table and
service was quick and efficient. As it was a 'meatless Friday' we ordered the the shrimp tandoori which was excellent. The breads were also good but we were disappointed with the Goan Fish Curry. There was very little Goan flavour and the gravy was far too thick, but overall we were happy to have dined there."

As a regular diner, I am pleased
by the consistency of the the good food and attentive service."
