Lovely Indian food paired with gracious, but not unctuous service. We've come here over the decades when business or pleasure have taken us to New York and have found Dawat reassuringly consistent. For urban out-of-towners like us, it's a special treat to see dishes we don't see on Indian restaurants back home.

I found the experience average vs my expectation based upon other ratings. The food was good, but not great. There was no presentation of the dishes, they were just quickly placed on the table. The service was almost non-existant even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full i.e. no one even asked if we were enjoying our meal. The decor was a bit tired and overall there was no sense of Indian ambiance. The experience was so-so.

While the ambiance desperately needs updating, the service and food is exceptional. Excellent Chicken Tikka Masala accompanied by Naan with nuts and dried fruit. Their Lamb Seekh Kebab was also delicious. Their Indian beer selection is limited, so I opted for a Pimms Cup which was lacking in taste, albeit properly made.
