THE IDEA & HISTORY
In 1985, at the young and ambitious age of 24, Steve DiFillippo purchased a locally-owned family restaurant called Davio’s on Newbury Street in Boston’s trendy Back Bay. As Boston’s culinary tastes evolved, he transformed the location into a destination. He retooled the menu, the space, the wine list. The new Davio’s soon garnered rave reviews.

The idea behind Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse was simple, regional Italian foods with a focus on the grill.
Everything made by hand from the best ingredients. Serve everything from aged steaks to simple-yet-unique pasta creations. Mirror this philosophy in the kitchen with our expert and attentive staff in the dining room, seeing to your every need and taking pride in your enjoyment of the meal. Davio's has since opened locations in Philadelphia, Foxborough, MA, Atlanta, Chestnut Hill, MA, Lynnfield, MA and Manhattan.

  • "Went here for Restaurant Week for the first time and we were blown away! As soon as we sat at the bar to have a pre-dinner drink, we received a free appetizer from the bartender, then we got another free appetizer (tasting) from our waiter. Throughout the night the waiter and staff were very friendly and helping, made us feel like they loved what they did and enjoyed the customers. All the food was amazing! We could not get enough. Portions were also very generous for Restaurant Week compared to other places. We pick a great bottle of wine to which the waiter brought out enormous wine glasses I've never seen before. Ended with perfect dessert and a cappuccino. Definitely going back on a regular night. Well worth the money!"

We then had another waiter for the rest of the meal but he never even smiled. The gentlemen that brought our food out were more pleasant."

I met with a business colleague for a meeting and a meal, and truth be known, the food and customer service were so outstanding, that we both felt the "stuffiness" of a business meeting subside! Upon entering the lower level restaurant we were acknowledged and greeted immediately, seated, and then I, as the host, was addressed by my name by our waiter....what a lovely touch. I would highly recommend Davio's, and am already planning to return!"

  • "During New York restaurant week, I went to Davio's, a new Italian place downstairs in a hotel on Lexington Avenue across from Grand Central, and I was not disappointed. The special menu was first rate, with a salad, special pasta, and a chocolate cake for dessert, with each course tasty and well-presented. The usual menu was so expensive that it took me aback, but maybe I will venture there again when on the expense account, since the food quality was that good and the venue was very soothing."

  • "I'm not really the fine dining type, but my experience here took place during restaurant week at 1PM for lunch. Our server, Arthur was an absolute delight. We enjoyed three courses which were cooked well, especially the caponata which made my little Sicilian heart squeal with joy. I had the farro salad, which was suited to my particular taste (and it was healthy too), and then the salmon which wasn't supposed to be accompanied by caponata, but Arthur and the chef were happy to to make that alteration. Topped off the meal with a cappucino and chocolate mousse that was delicious and light. Overall, it was a lovely experience and I have no complaints. Their menu has gluten free options which is also great :)"

  • "Arrived early on a Saturday and was concerned that we were literally the first ones there. The food was excellent from start to finish. Somethings were outstanding. Started with Kobe meatballs. First we received a basket of homemade bread from focaccia to a fig bread with eggplant and a salted butter. Before the meatballs, came a complimentary amuse bouche rice ball with marinara. Really nice. The app included two huge meatballs in a delicious marinara. The main courses were all excellent from the pasta to the braised short rib to roasted chicken. Everything was wonderful. To end it, the fritters with salted caramel were so delicious. Service was excellent and the entire staff made you feel welcome. We will definitely return."

  • "Interesting and varied menu. I was apprehensive about the crispy chicken livers but strangely lured by them. They were great. The pork chop was enormous and wonderfully cooked. Great wine list - the price range was good and as you'd expect a good selection of Italian wines (reasonably proved). Well worth a visit. Nice and friendly bar. And the restaurant was not noisy , which I always think as a bonus for NYC places."

They also have a dedicated gluten free menu which is great for those of us who need that. And the service was impeccable. Nicely decorated though it's on the basement level so there aren't any windows but the food is so good you wouldn't notice a view anyway!"

The portions are deceiving, there's a lot more food than it appears. The steaks were fantastic, but if you're ordering a thick steak be sure to order it slightly more done. Staff were fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly."
