A word from Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse - Manhattan
THE IDEA & HISTORY
In 1985, at the young and ambitious age of 24, Steve DiFillippo purchased a locally-owned family restaurant called Davio’s on Newbury Street in Boston’s trendy Back Bay. As Boston’s culinary tastes evolved, he transformed the location into a destination. He retooled the menu, the space, the wine list. The new Davio’s soon garnered rave reviews.

The idea behind Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse was simple, regional Italian foods with a focus on the grill.
Everything made by hand from the best ingredients. Serve everything from aged steaks to simple-yet-unique pasta creations. Mirror this philosophy in the kitchen with our expert and attentive staff in the dining room, seeing to your every need and taking pride in your enjoyment of the meal. Davio's has since opened locations in Philadelphia, Foxborough, MA, Atlanta, Chestnut Hill, MA, Lynnfield, MA and Manhattan.

  • Great Place for a Business or Social Lunch

We were six people meeting near Grand Central Terminal. Davio's fit the bill perfectly. The food was delicious. Some of us had the fixe prix lunch (which is an excellent option at $25 a person) and some ordered off the menu. Everyone loved their meal. In addition to great food, the service was excellent and the noise level was low. Perfect place for a business or a social lunch.

I selected this restaurant because of its geographic location. I then noticed it was part of a national group "chain" of restaurants. Do not let that distract you. This restaurant is as good as any choice NYC restaurants.

Davio's is not your typical Italian Steakhouse. The menu has a variety of very creative selections. My wife and I shared a ravioli entrée to start. It was very tasty...although a bit salty for our taste. Filet mignon was excellent. Short ribs were very good. Again, both more salty that we're used to. The service was extremely attentive.

Outstanding Italian in the basement of the Club Quarters hotel on Lex & 45th street. The food was top notch and not your usual Italian fare. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. We went with their suggestions across the board and were delighted. I will definitely be back.

I was surprised at how energetic and vibrant the mood was in the restaurant. I went with a friend, we went light on the food and drink orders because it was a little pricey, but the food portions were great. The staff was very attentive, but not overbearing at all. We sat at our table for a while talking and weren't made uncomfortable for doing so. I would definitely recommend the experience!

My gf had read the owner's book and is in the food and beverage management business. She was excited to try out the restaurant. Ok, well long story short we spent $22 at the bar on 2 glasses of wine waiting for our table and $23 during dinner on a whole bottle. Neither the bartender or hostess told us about the promotion they have on sundays for 1/2 off wine bottles. At the end of the dinner we were surprise to open the check book and see $45 charged for the wine originally before we had to remind the waitress about the 1/2 off bottle sundays. The kicker was there was a 1/2 off bottle promotion right in the checkbook! Something seems off about the beverage management but again the food was excellent.

This was my first visit here. While the Ambiance was nice and the food excellent I cannot get past the fact that the restaurant offered "Ruffino Chinanti Classico" on the wine menu and served a wine not made by Ruffino but only IMPORTED by Ruffino. The waiter told us it was made by Ruffino but an examination of the bottle after pouring told otherwise. While I do not object to substitutes, I do object to dishonest representation. I strongly suspect the substitute was a much cheaper wine. As a result, this was my first and LAST visit to Davio's.

Although we have several Davio's in the Greater Boston area, this was a first trip to one, prompted more by location than any other factor. I expected it to be pricey and predictable. Instead, we had a charming waitress who made us feel very welcome. Food was very good, and not outrageous, particularly by NYC standards. Have the hot chocolate cake for dessert: it's perfect with a cappuccino.

We went for an early dinner after a show on Sunday. Every Sunday the bottled wine is half price- great deal. It wasn't crowded, so the noise level was fine. However, if it were full, I would guess it would be pretty noisy. They have an extensive gluten free menu. The food was very good and the service was excellent, professional, competent and friendly

The service is really the strong point of this restaurant. They could not have been more attentive nor nicer The food was good to very good. They make an underground space inviting but at the same time, there was a lot of ambient noise. Not that talking was strained but for this type of 'quiet' restaurant, it was too noisy. They need sound dampeners on the concrete ceiling and walls. It was a reasonable midtown restaurant but not sure if I'd go back. Good but nothing special

I went there with my colleague in the office, because of several positive comments in the open table etc., and was quite surprised by the intimate service they provided. We took three glasses of wines each and shared several appetizers ending up with a small portion of steak for each one. We each paid up around $150 incl tax and services. Food and Wines are good, and moreover very speedy services. I have never been told `thanks` being called by my name when leaving, as a courtesy in any venues, except this one. Worth visiting.

Really great experience. From the smiling host that seated us and even used our last name (how they keep everyone's names straight is beyond me) to the knowledgable wait staff. Server recommended the lemon ravioli delish. And the crispy chicken livers he said those were a Davios tradition or something, either way tradition or not they were delish! He even said they do 1/2 price wine on Sundays so will definitely be back For that! And I saw a cute patio for drinks and bites on the way in but he humidity being at 70% that day was way too hot for that will be back on a cooler day. But overall really great experience! And the staff was very friendly, but not overbearing.

We had the "executive special" and were underwhelmed. The salmon appeared to have been deep-fat fried, perhaps to heat it up? When ordering the dessert, we wanted a mix of flavors for the ice cream, but the waiter couldn't seem to understand or express something so we kept them all the same. When it arrived, we saw that there were three scoops and we finally figured out what he couldn't explain. Disappointing. With all the choices in Manhattan, this one will probably not warrant a repeat.

Went here for Restaurant Week for the first time and we were blown away! As soon as we sat at the bar to have a pre-dinner drink, we received a free appetizer from the bartender, then we got another free appetizer (tasting) from our waiter. Throughout the night the waiter and staff were very friendly and helping, made us feel like they loved what they did and enjoyed the customers. All the food was amazing! We could not get enough. Portions were also very generous for Restaurant Week compared to other places. We pick a great bottle of wine to which the waiter brought out enormous wine glasses I've never seen before. Ended with perfect dessert and a cappuccino. Definitely going back on a regular night. Well worth the money!
