Excellent food and wine parings. I had the carnivore menu and wife had the vegetarian. Food was exquisitely prepared and presented. The manner of service encouraged you to linger over each course and truly enjoy it. Service was excellent, even if bordering on the slightly intrusive - it was cheerfully indulgent. I'd rather have too much service than too little. Heartily recommended!

The seven course tasting menu at Opus Ten with paired wines was a special treat to celebrate a birthday. The server was a delight, knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being overbearing. We chose the vegetarian option, including some of the same dishes as for the "carnivore" menu. We were told that a vegan menu was available by request. All of the food was tasty and well presented. The meal was well paced, allowing us to savor each dish. My only quibble was a bit of sameness in the textures and flavors. As a vegetarian I would have liked a bit more crunch and color. The mushroom "shooter" that opened the meal was spectacular. The second mushroom plate wasn't at the same level. Great ambiance & service, inventive food.

Truly the best dining experience I have had and I am a foodie and travel regularly. The waitstaff are some of the best. The seven course fixed menu was so creative and flavorful. This is not just eating out at a great restaurant, it is a dining experience like none other. A must try.

I am a cook, and a carnivore, so I appreciated all the classics done right. My daughter is a vegan and never gets a truly special dining experience. The Chef thought about each of the 7 tasting menu courses and made a vegan gourmet fantasy out of each. We sat at the Chef's table and he explained each course with passion.

This was my second visit to Opus 10, and left something to be desired this time. Table placement was a bit intimate with the couple next to us as opposed to my husband- unfortunately it took away from the romantic feel of the restaurant and made dinner conversation a bit awkward. Food was great, especially the corn risotto topped with lobster and the quail egg ravioli with mushroom nage. The chocolate bark during dessert was our least favorite- the macadamia nuts had almost a fishy taste. Wait staff was knowledgeable even though there seemed to be a big difference in knowledge/experience among the two main servers. Excellent cocktails!

I really enjoyed the tasting menu, but the service was terrible. We wanted to do the wine tasting with our food, but asked if we could have only red wines. Our server said no. Most high end restaurants have a sommelier who can work with the customers request. They usually say they cannot guarantee it will be a perfect, but they do accommodate. What topped the cake was near the end of the meal, the server brought our check with 40% of our wine left and with us still eating our dinner. She basically said we can cork it to take home and never bothered to come back to the table. We had to pour our own wine for a meal costing $150 per person. I will never return to this restaurant due to the service. Too bad because the food was quite good.

After eating our way through Portland, Maine, we finished on a high note at David's Opus Ten. The diamond in the tiara of the Portland dining. First, your table is yours for the night - so no rush...paced how you need/want, and you can take the time to linger and talk. Second, the food was impeccable. Flawless. The kinds of dishes you wanted (and got - four varieties) bread to scrape up every last bit of every sauce, and you wanted to eat slowly to truly enjoy every bite! Third, the service was a joy. We learned about not only how they created the menus and the wine pairings, but the grape varietals and vineyards. The chef came out himself and presented two of the courses and was happy to share his love of these creations.

We love the Portland food scene and have visited many local favorites. But perhaps our most memorable meal ever was the other night at David's Opus 10. We were lucky enough to sit at the chef's table. Chef Bo was perfect: attentive, informative, relaxed, and fascinating to watch. And the dishes he created were spectacular. I wanted to lick my plate. Even with the palate cleanser sorbet. A spectacular evening.

Prix fix menu, either vegetarian or carnivore. I do not eat red meat and the carnivore menu main dish was pork, a bit of a back and forth to exchange the pork dish with fish or chicken "I was told I need to call ahead for that" I was offered the goat cheese main dish and I objected to having that for a main dish, finally I was served salmon which was delicious. What was a little annoying was the long description of every little " and I mean really little" ingredient in every dish and a lecture about the origin of every wine, no need for that...... All in all it was worth the $250. price tag for two. I think.

David's Opus Ten is a true gem on the Portland, Maine dining scene. It is intimate and innovative. The experience is akin to being present at a private dinner party where a single server guides you through the entire gastronomical experience. Each dish is thoroughly planned to pop - both in terms of the senses and the palate. The experience of combining unique flavors with a beautiful presentation is the best I have experienced in this town. It is, indeed, David's crowning achieving. A big thank you to the associate chef for delivering accompaniments, personally, to each table.

This is a wonderful dining experience. We did the basic wine pairing with carnivore menu. It was an assault on our taste buds, in a good sense. It is expensive. Be prepared to drop $275 for two people. If you accept that entry fee you will not be disappointed. Our waiter played an integral role in our meal. He explained in detail the food pairing strategies and wine pairings, while interjecting the origins and characteristics of both ingredients and wine. We'll done!

Service was impeccable - knowledgable on both wine and food, personable and friendly, not at all intrusive. The food was a dream! Such a wonderful combination of comfort foods with a twist that only adds to the flavor, never detracts. Leaving the choices to the chef was the best decision we made!

David's Opus 10 is a superior restaurant. Excellent service, superb chef. Spoonbill caviar, Vichyssoise, brown butter poached lobster, quail egg pasta ravioli, ale braised pork butt to name a few items on the menu. We chose the Opus Ten wine pairings, which were just perfect. Whether you're a foodie (me) or not (my spouse) you will thoroughly revel in this restaurant. The total bill with tip was $240. It's a special occasion place. (It was our anniversary, and the staff made note of that, which was a delightful touch.) I highly recommend.

From start to finish, we had a truly lovely dining experience. The venue is a restaurant inside a restaurant, and so is intimate and you can watch the chefs in the open kitchen. Chef also came to the table to finish one or two courses and check how we were enjoying everything. The wait staff was attentive (but not obtrusive) and extremely knowledgeable about all courses regarding sources of ingredients and preparation. And to top it all off, our waiter was also a somelier and we had some great discussions about wine, port, medeira, and sherry. Since the table is yours for the whole evening, we were able to linger as long as we wanted. A wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!

I can only describe this as an exceptional dining experience. It's a fixed price menu. My husband will eat eggs and milk products, but no meat. I enjoy meat. In other fine dining establishments, the vegetarian menu compares poorly with the "regular" menu and the dishes are often timed completely differently as well, such that that one might as well be dining at two different restaurants. Not so here. The fixed price vegetarian menu aligned perfectly with the "carnivore" menu and was comparable in every way in quality and presentation. The seven courses were each more wonderful than the last. Unique cocktails, wine pairings and even non-alcoholic beverage pairings and a substantial amuse bouche enhance the experience.

I'm lucky that my work requires travel and the chance to eat in great restaurants. I've had amazing meals in New York, Paris, Singapore, San Francisco, etc. That said, I've never had a better meal than my hometown birthday celebration at David's Opus 10 in Portland. Everything about our dinner for 5 was marvelous: the room, the service, the wine and especially the food. Every course was delectable and paired with wonderful wine. The vegetarian and carnivore menus were equally good and everyone in our party was delighted with every dish. The menu changes so what we had may not appear on another night - but we loved the poached lobster and oysters, the smoked Portabello steak, the duck breast, the lamb and the gnocchi. Marvelous meal!

Each of the 5 courses on the "carnivore" menu was wonderful. (A vegetarian menu was also offered.) The palate cleanser of house made blueberry sorbet with frozen limoncello was excellent and refreshing. The reserve wine pairings were perfectly matched to each course. Although the reserve was a bit pricey, it was well worth it in our opinion for the quality and interesting variety of the selections. This was our first experience at the restaurant and we will definitely be back.

Wonderful food, beautifully presented. My only complaint is that if you want wine, you must go with their wine pairings (at an additional $35 or $65) or pay $15 for a glass of wine--which can be selected only from their limited list of pairings.

Clearly trying for Michelin star cuisine and service but falling ever so short. Decent quality ingredients, reasonably well prepared but over stylized all served in a dining environment overly influenced by the home decorating departments of Lowe's and Home Depot. A textbook case of form over substance. Terribly overpriced for the product. Intrusive and pretentious service. Definitely not worth a repeat visit.

We sat at the chef's table by the kitchen with a full view of the preparation of our (and other diners') dinner. We chatted with the chef throughout the dinner. This is a tasting menu, with paired wines for each course. It simply was one of the best meals we ever had, anywhere in the world. The dishes were inventive, without being exotic, and the food was exceptionally well prepared. In particular, the lobster and oyster first course was exceptional. Chef Bo was friendly, informative and very talented. Service by David was attentive, without being distracting, and he carefully informed us about the restaurant, the tasting menu and the wine pairings. In all, an exceptional experience.

Sat at the chef's "counter table for two" facing the kitchen. One delicious dish after another paired with one lovely wine after another. Wine pairings are spot on--"reserve" pairings are worth the splurge, but "Opus 10" pairings also great (we got one of each so we could try everything). While somewhat subjective, portions of food and wine are precisely enough for a tasting menu--less would be skimpy and more would be too much--when you get to the 7th wine you realize that while you may have wanted more of wine #3 or #4 because it was soooo great, it would have ruined you for the rest. Service is warm and welcoming and we can't wait to return.

Our server told us that she would pace the 7+ courses for us - and she did so perfectly. From sparkling to port, every pairing was superb - and we chose the lesser wines (we already knew most of the premium choices). Each course was a beautiful gem, and both of us ate the whole thing. Portions, of both wines and food, are reduced, but reduced to perfect. I was full after the brownie with flambé banana & ice cream, but not overstuffed. My favorite courses were the poached oyster & lobster served on the shell and the flawlessly flavored and cooked lamb medallion. We will be back every time the fixed menu changes... Noise level is a bit high because the servers explain every course, at every table. But we certainly learned a lot!

Did not know the restaurant's menu was a 7 course tasting menu that changes several times a year - absolutely great. They also offered paring a wine with each course. Some were better than others but overall very good. Presentation was superb. Did not feel rushed. There are only 6 tables so the ambience feels quite intimate. Would absolutely recommend to anyone. There was also a 7 course vegetarian version. Also, if you did not like a particular course, they would work with you to see what they had in lieu of. This was not an issue for us because all courses were very tempting and tasted great.

David's Opus Ten does everything right. Upon entering this intimate 18-seat venue, you are asked for your coat. So begins the night of being taken care of from the moment you step in. We chose the 6-course Restaurant Week special and were treated to an extra 7th course to begin - cured meat and cheese from Spain on handmade crackers accompanied by some very nice olives. Then came the plates, perfectly timed. Each one was explained in detail by our waiter. The personalized service is not to be beat anywhere in town.

We went to David's Opus 10 on the first day of Restaurant Week, and it was a memorable experience. The food was creative and delicious, and the staff was knowledgeable but unpretentious. This will definitely be our next destination for a splurge, special occasion dinner.
