Diner Reviews
  • "We went to the restaurant as part of a weekend in the city. The food and service were outstanding."

  • "You're going to pay a little more for the location, but they had a great menu and selection of meats and seafood to choose from. I suggest ordering different things and then sharing like our group of 4 did. The food was outstanding. Waiter was very helpful with the menu and wine list. He also explained how it was up to us on how fast we wanted our different courses (appetizers and dinners) to make sure it fit our schedule. Only knock I would give is the noise level and temperature were a little too high due to the full restaurant."

  • "I had incredibly High Expectations after seeing this on numerous TV Shows, and never having eaten Dry Aged Beef. We took a holiday trip to Chicago, and decided to try it out. This was the best Steak I have ever had in my life, and it is not even close. The 75 Day Dry Aged Bone-In Ribeye is something incredible. Perfect. The other sides, and the Red Velvet Cake just made the meal remarkable. We also got to take a tour of the Aging room. This was my favorite dining experience in all of my Chicago and NYC Travels."

  • "I don't think I could have a bad meal here if I tried. Everything is so spectacular. The Caesar salad has such a great mustard-y flavor, and the lobster bisque is the best we've ever had. Obviously the steaks are top notch. The bone-in filet had a wonderful rich flavor, and my husband believes the 55 day ribeye is the best steak in the city after trying every other steakhouse (seriously -I think we've been to every steakhouse). The service just can't be beat either - all of the servers are very professional yet friendly. I enjoy chatting with them and hearing their recommendations, as they never steer us wrong. We will be back!"

  • "When sat, we were not offered menus. The menus showed up five minutes later when the waiter finally noticed we did not have them. i ordered the 40 day aged bone in Ribeye. My girlfriend ordered the filet. Both were ordered medium rare. When the steaks arrived, the filet was so over cooked that it resembled a hockey puck. To his credit, the waiter realized this and immediately sent the filet back. Meanwhile, my girlfriend and I split the ribeye. Simply put, the ribeye had zero flavor. The second filet that arrived was prepared less than rare, almost raw. Again, the steak was sent back to the kitchen and at this point we informed the waiter that we simply didn't want the steak. I would never eat here again, even if it was free."

  • "This dinner should be a birthday present, because it is said they have the best steaks in Chicago. But you can't eat in peace there. We came and just in this second the waiter wanted to know, what we want to drink and to eat. Quick, quick, quick. I took salmon, but one the table was only a steaknife. I asked for another knife. The waiter brought it (no fishknife) and threw it in my hand. The steaks for my husband and my son were so sharp roasted, so that they tasted burnt. The resaurant is noisy and they use plastic tableclothes - so they can clean it fast. After 30 minutes we paid more than 300 dollar. Clearly: If they work fast, they can sell the table four times. I had the feeling to be only a money bringing maschine."

  • "We packed in a celebration dinner for two anniversaries, Father's Day and a birthday into one evening, and couldn't have picked a better place to do so. The food was phenomenal, as we tried a few different aged steaks ala family style. Also, the manager was kind enough to give us a tour of the salt room, which was amazing to see in person. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the market for great food at a higher price point!"

  • "I have eaten at David Burke's multi times and every time, including this last one, the experience is exceptional. The quality of the food itself is impeccable and the preparation is creative without comprising the simplicity of great ingredients. The service is fantastic as well. This is a restaurant that I crave going back to again and again."

  • "We went for our anniversary dinner. The aruagula salad was excellent. As were the sides: truffled fries, creamed spinich, and mac & cheese. I love a place that puts out excellent sides! But the steaks were amazing. My 75 day dry aged and my wife's 28 day were both flavorful and cooked as ordered. I also had the cask-aged Negroni--perfect. The star of the show was the red velvet cake -- iced at the table while still warm and accompanied by vanilla ice cream."

  • "Overcooked steak, replaced with undercooked steak. Good service, average food."

  • "We have dined at David Burke's Primehouse numerous times. On this past visit, our 13 year old niece requested dining at this restaurant. She lives in St. Louis, and this was her third time at the Primehouse. She loves the appetizers, popovers, filet mignon, mac 'n' cheese (I never eat mac 'n' cheese and was surprised that it tasted so good) and lollipop tree! She knows that we would take her to dine anywhere in Chicago, but David Burke is her favorite. Everything is outstanding!"

  • "We were so excited about our upcoming visit to David Burke's Primehouse for dinner after the Cub's game on 5/27. Our hostess seated us immediately which was nice. That's where the fun ended. We were sorely disappointed with the menu choices. There were no filets that were less than 8 ozs which is too big for some people. Our waitress kept pushing and pushing for us to order. We finally decided on some shrimp cocktails and drinks and she pushed again for us to order our entrees. We weren't ready, but ordered anyway. She assured us that all the sides were plenty big enough for the table to share......NOT. We ordered asparagus, mushrooms and potatoes that came in little casserole dishes, hardly big enough to serve 2! Very disappointed"

  • "Although the Bacon Sticks (appetizer) were amazing, the steak was just okay. It was very tender but did not have any flavor. I'm glad that I read the reviews before so I sort of knew what to expect. This is the first "high class" steak restaurant where I actually had to ask for steak sauce to give it some flavor. I had the 40 Day Ribeye."

  • "If you truly appreciate a good cut of steak prepared the proper steak way, then this is the place for you. If you prefer your steaks heavily seasoned, this is not the place for you. As someone who appreciates both, I definitely enjoyed this restaurant. I would like to point out two things: 1) Our waiter Corey was outstanding. 2) Bacon on a stick was mind-blowing!"

  • "Primehouse is a steakhouse for steak pros; the selection, care, and overall steak skills are first rate. This is NOT the place to go for first time steakhouse guests, and this is indeed a compliment!"

  • "We enjoyed our visit. The hostess was delightful, the wait staff was very attentive, and the food was superb. We will be back."

  • "Cocktails were good. The steak was delicious. Scallops were almost inedible. Desserts were good. The caesar salad was good, They make a big deal about their preparation at table side, but the portion was surprisingly small. Ok for 1 person, but not a portion for sharing. Sides were disappointing. Service was rushed. Salad and apps came on top of each other. There are many good steakhouses in Chicago. We wanted to try David Burke's, but it's very expensive for a disappointing overall experience."

  • "Beef was good. Granted. But it needed to be great for that price. It wasn't New York great, or even London great, it was good. And the veg was poor. The wine, however (Malbec), was sensational."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "So the meat is dry aged in a salt lined room. Whoop de doo. I would have settled for a flavorful steak with some dry aged flavor instead of the mundane ribeye with a sliver of a bone. I have eaten dry aged steaks all over the US for decades, and this is not one of the top parlors. If you want really good dry aged beef in New York, try Keen's. Rest of country, Bern's in Tampa. As for the wine list, I was familiar with many of them and they appeared to be about 300% markup. Outrageous. And the list was lacking in depth. Don't get me wrong; this wasn't a "bad" steak, just nothing special, particularly for the inflated prices. Skip it."

  • "Waiter was great, sides were good, but steak was over cooked. My husband ordered the ribeye and I had the strip steak. Both ordered medium rare and they were both a solid medium."

  • "We had a great time and dinner at Burke's. The staff was easy going but professional. Fellow diners dress ranged from jeans to suits."

  • "Strange venue to take my vegetarian wife to for our 20th wedding anniversary meal but she knows I like my steak! A table had been booked but we arrived early and were seated straight way. Not that great a choice for my wife, but then this is a steak restaurant so can't complain. She went for a Caesar salad and was thrilled to find that it was freshly prepared at the table side. Never had this before and she was delighted with same. For me, the steak was even better and was well worth the trip."

  • "Hostess was not welcoming. One steak tough and the second over cooked. Flavor of steak was very odd and gamey. Dinner sides were "grim". No table linens just an uninviting plastic table cover. Table was an uneven fold out. Chairs were sticky plastic. Buss boys need training on how to serve. The worst "premium" restaurant I have experienced."

  • "The server was really great. He was very knowledgeable and gave us suggestions on the choice of and amount of food. The night I visited had the world cup game for my home country. He went to check the score to let us know. When the stake came out, it was little too burned for me, and they exchanged the $50+ stake and the new one came out in very short time. The manager in charge came to me to apologize for the inconvenience. That was nice. Their salad was really great. They create their own caesar dressing right next to our table and it was very tasty. On the way out, the manager gave me the final soccer game score again. Very nice personal touch. Food was great! The service was wonderful as well."

  • "The entire family enjoyed themselves. Everything was great, the porterhouse, lamb chops, 40-day aged ribeye, even the service was exceptional."

  • "The foie gras was spectacular, the truffle fries were marvelous (but served with regular ketchup? Weird. Ask for a side of truffle aioli and all shall be perfect), and the steaks were delicious. The 55 day was definitely the star of the evening, although my 35 day KC Strip was great, too. Our server, though friendly and certainly competent, was not terrifically enthusiastic about the menu. He made some good recommendations for sides, and his reco of the 55 day was right on, but would've loved to hear more about non-dry-aged and non-steak options. Regardless, he generously gave us tastes of two spendier wines after we ordered our wine--something we didn't even ask for--and a special birthday dessert! All in all, a terrific evening."

  • "Wonderful brunch, very very tasty! We had the beef sticks and they were so wonderful, extremely flavorful little bites, the pork belly on a stick also fun to eat and so good, warm maple syrup dip. Then the waffles and chicken fried steak with creamy sauce. Our next trip to Chicago we will definitely try this place for Dinner. Great quiet ambiance."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Loved the atmosphere, professional waiter. Very responsive...when asked - 2nd cup of coffee and salt for the table. The salad and sides were great but the 55 day rib eye was not medium but well done and as a result can't be recommended, loved the energy and decor but maybe next time just for wine and cheese."

  • "The food and service were impeccable. Very pricey. Never paid $500 for a dinner for 2 in my life and never will again. It was a great one time experience."

  • "I took my husband and faher in love (don't like the word in law) downtown for Father's Day for a movie and lunch. I saw the channel 7 food critics review on their "Best burger in Chicago" segment and decided to try them. It was a great choice! The staff was attentive and the food was great! And 3 people for lunch under 75, includiing a nice tip, not bad at all!"

  • "Chicago has this listed as one of it's top steakhouses but I would skip it and could kick myself for going there. With so many great places to choose from this was a dissapointment. The atmosphere was nice and the wine very good. The dry aged ribeye was sold as flavorful but instead we found it to be tasteless. We ordered medium rare which the waiter told us was warm red center. Instead we received a medium well steak. Once our food came the waiter never once checks back to see if the steaks were cooked properly. Only after a manager stopped by did they acknowledge the steak was not mid rare. The manager told us dry aged steaks are not meant to be "moist"."

  • "Bacon Sticks and oysters were good, along with the complementary popovers. Kids menu a good value. Steaks were above average but can get similar quality elsewhere for much less. Service was typical stuffy steakhouse (in our experience). Wine markups pretty high, but sommelier helped recommend a decent value from Gigondas. Donut dessert was bland and heavy. Would not return or recommend to others."

  • "My bone in ribeye was good but I've had better... Med Rare was closer to medium and cut was a little on the thin side and slightly under seasoned. A good experience but value was not there for 150 with 2 drinks..."

  • "We had a nice dinner here at DB Primehouse. The main reason we went was because of the rating that they have the best steak in Chicago (40 day aged ribeye). We ordered that and I got the filet. The steaks were good, but not the best we've had. We ordered the bacon and maple syrup starter as well as the foie gras, and both were great - I highly recommend the bacon starter, it was delicious! The asparagus with garlic side was a little bit bland, but good. They have a nice wine selection, and our sommelier was very helpful. But the biggest complaint is the space - there is no ambience in here. You can tell you are in a hotel. Even the bar, where we sat and had a glass of champagne before being seated, is right off the lobby and looks bad."

  • "Expensive aged ribeyes were tough, greasy and tastless. We were initally charged $40 for the $8 potatos and $108 for the $18 oysters."
    Dined on 6/2/2014
  • "Dined here recently with a client group - the steaks are good but extremely overpriced. They talk up the aged process but I couldn't tell much difference it seems to make the ribeye have less flavor in my mind. They are very large so split one with some one. They have fun appetizers, good drinks and dessert. They bring everything out on rolling carts in those in silver platter things like hotels (I found this to very hokie). The sides I was not impressed with at all they had a very cafeteria massed produced feel/taste to them. The red velvet cake for dessert was the best part. I would advise on skippimg this place and going to Del Friscos it is slightly cheaper and way better."
