David Burke's Primehouse in the James HotelDinner ReviewSteaks were excellent and as tender as the waiter claimed they would be. Restaurant was flexible in being able to handle an additional person in our large party.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMmmmThe restaurant exceeded our expectations. I expected the dry aged beef to be fabulous. A special treat was a visit to the meat locker after my husband, a rancher, expressed interest. What was shocking was the absolutely over the top desserts offered. The "Banana split", prepared at the table, featured ice cream mixed with carmel on a block of their Himalayan salt, compressed pineapple, sugared pecans, whipped cream and so forth. Unbelievable! My dessert, heavenly chocolate something divine with sides of delicious,, was equally outstanding .
I want to go back for the sliced prime rib burger and more dessert! Pricey but worth it.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Steak In the CityI have tried many steak house but David Burkes is by far my favorite.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBacon sticks are a must asBacon sticks are a must as much is the ceaser salad prepared table side. The steaks are great but this is Chicago and I'm paying over $50 for it so great is expected at that point. Though they don't disappoint the spinach gnocchi and the cheese popover bread are the real stars. Overall great dinner out5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining, excellent filetThe $20.13 special was not only a good deal, but simply scrumptious, from the Beefeater martini, the big green salad, to the petite filet, which was NOT small and the perfect mashed potatoes. The relatively inexpensive wine from their list was very good, The hamburger the other member of our party had came with a mountain of delicious, cheesy fries and his vanilla ice cream was one of the best he's had. As ever, the popovers were wonderful.
We were able to linger over our lunch as long as we wanted. Again, a most enjoyable experience at the Primehouse.
The only reason I gave only 4 stars to ambience is because the bar is under construction, but soon to be completed.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AM55day aged steak fantastic.55day aged steak fantastic. Loved their version of the crab cake. Never had a better banana split. At the table they rolled ice cream on a slab of Himalayan as,lt and then put tha caramel sauce on it and rolled it into the ice cream5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA Hidden Gem In The James HotelDavid Burke's Primehouse was recommended to me three years ago by the Concierge at the hotel I was staying at. The restaurant is hidden in the James Hotel and took me a couple minutes to find. I visit Chicago once a year and I make it my business to have dinner at this wonderful restaurant. Last year I even asked my server if i could take a tour of the meat aging rooms in the basement. If you are a die hard steak person they just melt in your mouth. Plenty on the menu to choose from. Don't miss out on an total food experience.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!Brian was a wonderful and knowledgeable server! He recommended aged steaks that matched each of our four different taste preferences and was right on the mark! We ordered Caesar salad to start, three sides and an aged steak each. Brian recommended that we split two Caesar salads instead of ordering a salad each. I'm thankful we did because the steaks were generously portioned! Amazing food and service! A must-go!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! The food was amazing. The service amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best steak I have eatenThe best steak I have eaten to date... I say that because I will be going back for the 75 day dry aged rib eye! I had the 55 and it was cooked to perfection and tasted superb. The sides were great. We started with Kobe Carpaccio and the Smoked apple wood bacon sticks (I am a hog fan and these were great). We tried the spicy Caesar salad with the crab croutons. The salad was great skip the croutons. Deserts were also fantastic. If you can afford it this place is definitely a don't miss. If you can't afford put it on the CC and enjoy life you deserve it and it is well worth it for steak lovers. Oh and don't forget to take home some of the dry aged burgers. I just ate one of my ten and I am regretting not getting more.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood Gem!We ate here multiple times, while staying at The James. Each meal was outstanding, a gastronomical adventure. The food is as beautiful as it is delicious to eat. A favorite bite was Bacon, carmelized with maple syrup and served with black pepper. It should be on the dessert menu! So decadent! We also enjoyed breakfast very much. Best fried potatoes ever and in-house jams. The desserts are designed to be enjoyed by one, not shared, and are absolute works of art. From pistachio foams to sour cherry bubbles on South American chocolate. Oh my! While the food may be the star here, the service shines, too! Attentive, friendly, and extremely pleasant. The wait staff actually functions as a team, something rarely seen these days.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat steaks. Sides yummy,Great steaks. Sides yummy, except I wasn't a fan of the basil whipped mashed potatoes. Must ordered the Caesar salad with the crab crouton - scrumptious. Eaten here twice, both times impeccable service.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen here several times, eachBeen here several times, each visit appreciate something different, from the decor to the food to the sides. There are definitely a lot of steakhouses in Chicago and David Burkes is among the very best.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants I've ever visited! 75-day dry-aged steak is an experience, as is a tour of the meat cellar.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionWe were very pleased with our entire meal from appetizers to dessert. Those Kickin Donuts are to die for. I couldn't help but occasionally peak over at the tables near us to see what food gems they ordered. Next time I go to David Burke's I will be preordering their red velvet cake!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMeat Lovers delightOn the corner of Rush and Ontario, We asked the waiter to take a tour of the salt ceiler where the meats are aged and he took us to it.. Great for people who enjoy to eat meat. Sides were also exceptional..4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. IThe food was very good. I had the seared ahi tuna it was pretty standard what you would expect from any restuarant the offers ahi tuna. The 55 day dry salt aged steak was a hit with my boyfriend. He got it rare and it had intense beef flavor. We got the asparagus which was a little spicy, truffle mashed potatoes, and onion rings with bacon mustard sauce, both were very good. It was a great place and a good meal, but I have to be honest I wasn't blown away by any of it! It was a $200+ dinner I would have liked it to be more exotic and flavorful. We may go back but mostly for the 75 day aged steak.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall a great dinning experience.Overall a great dinning experience. The steaks are great and the service was nothing short of perfect. We look forward to the next time in Chicago at David Burkes4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bacon sticks (thick baconThe bacon sticks (thick bacon cubes on skewers) and foie gras (first time I ever tried this) were amazing starters. We had outstanding Caesar salad that was prepared right at our table. Our main course included a bone-in filet, a 45 day dry aged rib eye, mac and cheese and crab whipped potatoes. That was all very good. A tremendous amount of food (doggy bags came in handy), but we also ordered the desert of the day that was delightful. The service was truly outstanding. This was our first visit to this restaurant and Matt, our waiter, provided suggestions that were much needed and greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to returning here to enjoy some other menu items.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding restaurant fromOutstanding restaurant from the level of service, the friendly and enthusiastic staff to the impeccable food preparation. Be ready to enjoy perhaps the best steak you will ever have. Top recommendation.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile you might not considerWhile you might not consider David Burke your favorite burger joint, if you're around for lunch and feel the craving for a top notch beef patty, Primehouse is your place. Reasonably priced, the burger is an amazing blend of different cuts, with very little to distract from the flavor: just some spinach and cheese of your choice.
I cam for dinner as well, would go back any time. And probably order another burger given the chance. I substituted the fries with the tempura broccoli, and they didn't even charge me extra!
Enjoy4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steakhouse in ChicagoThe steak here is better than anything else I've had in Chicago. I eat steak at least once or twice a week... I'm usually a rib-eye guy, but was told to go for the Kansas City Sirloin, 35 days aged. I've had it twice, and both times was beyond astounded.
The dessert. What can I say? Creme brulee, a simple dessert? Not here. Mind-bogglingly good. From start to finish, our meal and overall experience was one to remember.
Lastly, I should mention that our server was really on point. I could tell she knew who she was dealing with (a couple of guys, ready to eat, last table sat). Normally one might expect to receive a hurried service given these factors, but she was AWESOME. Friendly, not hurried, DEEP knowledge of the food. Very happy.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMService was awesome answeredService was awesome answered any question we had with expertise.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat salad! Not our best experience there, and we eat there often when in town. The lanky young man at host seemed offended and bordered on rude. Refused to look up the reservation I had carefully made. Abrupt and unfriendly. Waiter was great. Caesar, while a bit of a fraud with dressing in a plastic egg shell, was nonetheless excellent (and then some). All in all it was very good but the reception left me feeling a little unappreciated. We will be back, though. No one is perfect.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome meal. Foie gras wasAwesome meal. Foie gras was buttery, melt in your mouth just perfect taste. Staff was well knowledgable and able to describe difference in quality of meats. Barbecue octopus fingers were divine, caesar salad was spot on and dry age steak was perfect!
The cocktails were a bit too sweet and 'girly' and the truffle whipped potatoes were just okay. A well all around terrific experience. Would highly recommend it.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGenerally Superb MealA superb all around experience, with prices you would expect at a steakhouse like this. While the menu doesn't say the size of the steaks, they are generous. We thought the potato pierogies were not very good, and the broccoli was bland, but the steaks and Caesar salads were superb. Overall, a wonderful meal.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDry Age is the way to goMy first visit to Primehouse was a revelation. Although the menu provides a choice of wet and dry age steaks, choose a dry age steak. The intensity of flavor and tenderness of the beef makes this the most memorable steak I have eaten in many years.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNew all time fav steakhouse. After much deliberation I booked a business dinner at DBS. Choices are plenty in Chicago when it comes to steakhouses.
The tipping point in choosing this over my other favorite spots, was the dry aged steaks options they offer. The group comprised of extremely particular foodies from UK, Canada and US. Each person said that these were he best steaks they have ever had (dry aged).
Bryan is one of the best wait saff I have encountered- sense of humor, thorough knowledge of steaks, world wines, and an attitude befitting service. Hats off to him for taking care of us.
Try their bacon on a stick (with habanero marination if you dare), Brussels sprouts and oysters.
We chose the 75 day aged and 40 day aged options and weren't disappointed.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGet the Steak Right!!!Was looking for a great steak in Chicago. There are many choices, but settled on David Burke because its menu seemed most serious about steak making. Absolutely the best dry-aged steak ever had. The waitress recommended the ribeye, but I always preferred strip for dry aging. As it turned out, the 35 day bone-in strip was just perfect. I am going to have to upgrade my dry-age requirement to 35 days, or eat at David Burke's more often (which is not affordable). Preparation was also great. Not over salted. Medium rare is just done right all the way to the bone. Couldn't be more impressed.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good, and theThe food was good, and the table service was excellent.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed Easter brunch! We enjoyed Easter brunch! The service was exceptional and the manager even stopped by a few times to make sure our meal was going perfectly. The food quality was even better than I expected and the meal we had was phenomenal. I could not have asked for a better night! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great ambiance and an amazing steak!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fabulous, waiterFood was fabulous, waiter John A was excellent, Don't always love having yo sit right next to another couple in a two top table, but the meal and service were wonderful.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMS. BrittonNice dark and cozy atmosphere. Food and wait staff were awesome. The 55-day aged ribeye was good, but not the best steak I have ever had... still worth the visit. When we asked for a side of broccoli we got this huge bowl, sort of ridiculous, a bit of food waste... on the positive the popovers were great and wine selection outstanding.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe steak was wonderful andThe steak was wonderful and other dishes were very good.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steaks in ChicagoBest steakhouse in Chicago! What's more if, no, when you go, get the Ceaser Salad and end with their specialty desserts.
Always a treat to dine here.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for chef's week, andWe went for chef's week, and even though that was a discounted menu, the service was topnotch. We want to return and try a dry-aged ribeye or Perterhouse! The only restaurant in Chicago to dry-age beef with a special salt, the beef was superb! The Red Velvet cake was amazing too. We had the del Monico steak and the seabass, which were both delicious. The mushroom and broccoli sides and the mashed potatoes were also very good. I'd go back in a minute!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodThis was a place recommended and did not disappoint. The Food is excellent. Thank you.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEveryone enjoyed their foodEveryone enjoyed their food and drinks . The staff was attentive but not intrusive ,which was very much appreciated.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDo not overlook this steakhouse!!!The 55-day dry aged steak changed my life, an the truffle fries were definitely unforgettable!!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Octopus appetizerGreat food. Octopus appetizer is AMAZING. Was a special night for me and my husband, and the general manager, Arif, took great care of us to make our dinner experience beyond what we could have hoped for. Fabulous place.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCall ahead for 75 day aged ribeyeOverall we liked the place. Six guys in for a bachelor party. 3 ordered the bone in filet. 3 ordered the 55 day aged ribeye (only because they were out of the 75 day aged ribeye, which was very disappointing). I expected too much I guess. The food was okay. The service was great. I recommend going if you call ahead and are able to get the 75 day steak and a tour of the salt aging room. Chef Bre, the executive sous chef, was an awesome tour guide and by far the best personality we encountered at the restaurant.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWanted to find out what 'Wanted to find out what ' dry aged ' steaks were all about. Saw David Burke's Primehouse in a list for best steakhouses in Chicago. Great ambiance. Very professional yet relaxed ( not uptight ) service. Tried the 40 day aged steak. Very good. Wife ordered the Filet and loved it. When you order a dry aged steak they offer to take you on a tour to show their process for dry aging. Thought that was pretty cool. Great all around restaurant. Appetizers, etc,..everything was top notch. Recommend checking it out. They are in the process of remodeling the bar area. Should be sharp.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSteaks were great, took usSteaks were great, took us to the aging room. Love it.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, great food and service.Great, great food and service.
