A word from David Burke's Primehouse in the James Hotel
The first chef to own his own bull, Chef David Burke's commitment to quality is evident in the USDA prime grade, hand-selected beef served in David Burke's Primehouse. The restaurant dry-ages its meats in a Himalayan salt-tiled aging room on premise. The result is perfectly marble-ized, tender beef with a rich depth of flavor. Tours of this unique facility can be arranged upon reservation.

As advertised. Outstanding food, creative menu, fantastic service. We had to wait for 30 mins even with a reservation, but the star of the meal was what you want from a steakhouse - the steak. Very strong. Excellent service, too.

My new husband and I researched many, many steakhouses in Chicago. David Burke's was highly recommended to us by some locals. The service was fantastic, the food was the best I've ever had (steak-wise), and hope to come back here for our anniversary dinner!

Having done most of the steakhouses, but not all, Primehouse is the best steak in the Midwest. His own bull, and 55 dry aged ribeye is the best steak experience. The puff pastry bread, sides and deserts are all David Burkes high quality. I have eaten at his New York restaurants and waited for the Chicago site to open. Seven trips (and I live 170 miles away) and hosting two large groups and every one was exceptional. Yet, everything on the menu is done so well that even a non steak lover will have a foodie meal. Save room for the deserts as all are top chef level. Service is top of the line that you would expect. It is in the hotel and open for lunch if you are looking for a reasonable cost option. Best steak in Chicago and the midwest.

Had heard raving about the dry aged steaks, which is there specialty, and was excited to try them. Sorry to say was very disappointed. Expected to pay high prices, but you get a better steak at Outback for less then 1/2 of the price. I ordered one of the most expensive-longer dry aged steaks and it was dry and not flavorful, with a plain presentation. The check for 5 was over $700. I unfortunately will not return. Chicago has many other pricey steak houses where the meat flavor meets the price expectation. We ordered a desert-hazelnut ice cream and it was so salty you couldn't eat it, waiter who was good, brought us some extra when we complained, to taste and he said he said the garnish had the salt? Stay away from David Burke all hype.

Our group recently had dinner at David Burke's Primehouse and found the food to be excellent. Our pre-dinner cocktails were amazing, the steaks were well aged and well prepared, the side dishes were flavorful and delicious, and our service was excellent (our waiter was very friendly and attentive). Our only complaints were the following: the restaurant lighting left something to be desired (it was too bright for the space and this really killed the restaurant's ambiance) and the wine list, besides being extremely limited, was quite aggressive in its pricing.

This was an anniversary dinner. We made a reservation & asked for a quieter spot and/or booth. We got a booth which was good as the main room seemed a little loud. Food was great! Steaks & filets are very decent in size. Desserts were very small for the price but we were surprised by a complimentary "extra" dessert & 2 glasses of champagne. Service was excellent.

The fois gras appetizer came with burnt toast (more than half was completely black), the steak was dry, and the chocolate budino was as solid as truffle candy out of a box. It was as if the cook didn't care about the food he's preparing.

I tried David Burke for the first time this past week and will have to admit I was not all that impressed. This is a restaurant to serve the needs of the tourist and business man. The experience was not that enjoyable because we always felt rushed by the staff. For each course, bussers were asking to pull our plates while there was still food on them (and one of us was still eating). I had the 40 day aged steak and it was wonderful but not good enough for me to go back based on the service. This restaurant is located in a hotel, so you will feel like you are eating with a group of people that just exited whatever trade show is in town. For a good steak, I would recommend Rosebud, Mortons, Chop House, Chicago Cut

There's a difference between a restaurant in a hotel and a hotel restaurant. This is definitely the later. From the decor which is remarkably uninspired and bright, to the service which was spotty and inattentive. The food was great, but the menu very limited when comparing it to other steakhouses: Mastros, Del Friscos, Gibsons, Chicago Cut... Very limited in sides and salads. It has some of the ingredients to make a great steakhouse, but it lacks what it takes to truly compete with the best in Chicago. When you are charging 50-60 bucks for a steak, the service, decor, and general vibe should match.

Our waiter was great. I was so disappointed though, as I had made reservations here because it said they had a gluten free menu. I spoke with them the day before to confirm and they promised to have gluten free bread ready for my son. When we arrived, we were told they no longer had gluten free bread, as they had just changed chefs. There were not many options for him and it made the wait for our food difficult.

I have to admit, the prices kind of scared me, but now I know why. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I've never had a steak that was cooked to perfection, tasted like heaven, and I never wanted to stop eating it. Not only was the food amazing, our server, Chris (I Believe), made our anniversary something I would have never expected. I couldn't have been more impressed. I would love to come back here often!

I was really looking forward to having a steak here since this restaurant came highly recommended. I was quite disappointed with the quality of the meat. We decided to have two 28 day aged rib eyes cooked medium rare. One came medium rare, the other came medium (and it was not easy to chew). At $49 each, I expected a really great juicy steak. I can probably make a better steak on my own BBQ. Sorry David Burke's, but you don't live up to your reputation. I should have went to Gibson's.

We went on a double date here this past weekend. We ordered the bacon on a stick and crab cake appts. The bacon on a stick is literally a chunk of bacon that comes with maple syrup for dipping - looks cool and tasted great (esp if you love bacon). The crab cake was more like a churro & not at all like your traditional crab cake, but still good. The guys ordered the 55 year aged steak and the ladies ordered the filet mignon. My boyfriend personally enjoyed my filet better than the aged steak (there was also a lot more fat on the aged steak), but I think that depend on preference. We also ordered the mac 'n' cheese, brussel sprout & basil whipped potato sides. I would only order the potatoes again. Nothing was bad, but those were exceptional!

Superb service combined with excellent food made this a very memorable experience. The GF and I chose the 28 day-aged Ribeye, Filet Mignon along with a whole 1lb lobster. We also got 2 sides which were broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steaks were superb and cooked to perfection. A slight nod to the Filet. The lobster was juicy and cooked just right. The sides were good, not great. The mashed taters were superior to the broccoli. The waiter also recommended red wine which was perfectly suggested and paired well with our steaks. Ambience and décor were nice and welcoming. Overall, excellent experience and we'd definitely plan on making the trip back when we're in Chicago next.

My girlfriend had the petite filet, and I had the KC strip, both medium rare and coked to perfection. The dry aging was definitely worth it, and had my girlfriend wishing she had gotten one (we are both runners and prefer lean meat hence the petite) but the flavor of the strip was incredible. The petite was extremely good too, it was nice to have it as a foil for the strip because it really emphasized the flavor of the dry aging process! We splurged on the bacon as well, which was melt in your mouth delicious, had a nice bottle of wine, the surf and turf appetizers, whipped potatoes and their new chocolate desert. All were fantastic, but so rich that our stomachs werepaying my for it two days later. It was worth the gastric distress!

Had an amazing meal here before, one of the top steak meals I've ever had. This time, the steak and appetizers (bacon/wagyu beef) were great, but several other things were not. We were seated right where the staff comes out from the kitchen, lots of hustle/bustle, despite there being a corner booth available. We asked to move and it probably took 10 min for the waiter to okay our move, and then another 15 min before anyone except water service came to our table. The popovers were served at best luke warm (last visit these were piping hot!). Our arugala salad was forgotten, never brought out. The waiter could tell we were celebrating something and offered congratulations, but never asked he was congratulating us on (our engagement!)

I chose the restaurant because I had heard about the steaks they dry-age in-house (up to 75-days when I visited) in a room with a large Himalayan pink salt brick wall. Between my lady and myself, we have the 40-day and 55-day ribeyes and the difference was noticeable. The bacon pops are good, but a bit gimmicky. The foie on cacao cake was fantastic and the steaks were great. The mushrooms and spinach were rich and the truffle asiago fries were good as well.

We're from NYC & having been to many of David burkes other restaurants we expected to have a good meal. The 40 day stake was good. Not amazing. But good. The sides we're flavorless the pasta in these and cheese were mushy. They told us to order cocktails in the waiting area while we wait. As soon as we did our table was ready so we asked to just take the drinks to the table with us and them to our dinner bill. But they said no because the drinks weren't part of the restaurant? Even though the cocktail menu said primehouse?? Shady. And annoying. This place kills the David Burke name

While stuck in Chicago due to FAA fire my partner and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice steak to test the Chicago steakhouse reputation. As a longtime Tampa resident, and one who enjoys Berns Steakhouse on a regular basis, I have a top-ten reference point and would put David Burke's in this company. The 40 day aged steak was wonderful ordered medium rare, and was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The sides (Mac & Cheese and mushrooms) were terrific and a great tasty compliment to the beef, and the waitress and supporting staff were there when needed and otherwise both present and very pleasant. Treat yourself to a David Burke's meal when in Chicago.

Too noisy and crowded, deco was odd. Service was hot and cold. Floor was not kept clean - a lady slipped on the floor just next to our table. The service was amazing. I noted in my reservation that it was my guest's birthday, and everyone that worked at the restaurant seemed to know about it. The food is the highest quality. I had never had a "dry aged" steak before, and I learned that "dry aging" in not necessarily for me (I actually like the "juiciness" of a steak that dry aging basically removes). But the quality of everything was top notch (and the desserts were fabulous as well). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is celebrating a special occasion--in particular anyone who likes dry aged steaks.

I am a mother of two small children that doesn't go out very often. Having said that, hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal. Server was very informative and attentive but not in-your-face. Sommelier was extremely pleasant and patient in answering questions to 2 non-connoisseurs and her recommendation was right on. The restaurant has a neat and clean feel to it, the atmosphere is comfortable, nothing that knocks your socks off. But the food, from the scallop appetizer to the caesar salad (that I could have eaten all night long) to the 40-day prime rib, ordered medium, still has my mouth watering a week later. Delish! Will definitely have to find another reason to go again!

The 55 day aged steak ($68) is amazing. The food quality is phenomenal and service was outstanding. It was a bit too noisy for me that evening. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary there (third anniversary to spend at David Burke's) but we had a hard time hearing each other. Also it is very expensive compared to Fleming's or Ruth's Chris (but also much better quality) so as long as you go in knowing that, you'll enjoy. What made the night so special is the chef and staff brought out some extras since my husband has been in the restaurant industry and they knew it was my birthday.
