Diner Reviews
  • "We choose David Burkes specifically because we want to try the 55 day aged ribeye and it did not disappoint, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly! "

  • "We went for a birthday celebration for my girlfriend. Possibly the best server I have ever encountered at a high end restaurant. Knowledgeable, honest, friendly, and very helpful. Great overall experience. Fantastic food. Must try the Bacon Sticks!!!!!"

  • "Really enjoyed the Kansas Cuty strip - amazing side, the truffle fries were our favorite!"

  • "We saw David Burke's Primehouse on the food channel and it was everything and more that we could have imagined! The food was amazing, the service (provided by Jeremy) was superb. Portions were large enough to share between two people. The 40 day ribeye fell apart in my mouth and the ceasar salad was sensational! We both had our steaks prepared au poivre, we loved the spice. The noise level was definitely elevated by all of our "mmm's!" and "ooooh's!" We were very happy with the whole experience!! Highly recommended! "

  • "We went there for lunch. The restaurant was quiet and we were treated very nicely by the staff. We ordered bacon as an appetizer and it came in sticks like cake pops. Very cute. The steaks were very good and seasoned just right. At first, we had to send them back because they were overcooked but the manager came to talk to us and made sure that they got them perfect the second time. The wine list was awesome. We have tried many notable steakhouses like Chicago chop house and Peter Luger but we liked this place the most. My petite filet had a blue cheese smell and very soft. Overall, we really liked this place and think it's deserved to be the best steakhouse in Chicago!"

  • "I was visiting Chicago for a conference and i thought it would be great to go to David's restaurant as he was pretty impressive on the TV show Master Chefs. The steaks were excellent and prepared as requested. Almost all the selections for side dishes sounded great. We had the mac and cheese, spinich, and asparagus. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese was bland due to under seasoning. I asked for salt and that made all the difference, but as a high-end restaurant, i was surprised by the under seasoning and the waiter didn't even ask if something was under seasoned when i requested salt. The asparagus was awesome and the spinich was above average. Overall, i was pleased, but my expectations (which were high) were not fully met."

  • "Being a life long resident of Nebraska and eating my fair share of corn fed beef, I found that the 75 day dry aged steak at Primehouse was the best aged, best prepared, and best tasting cut of beef I've ever eaten. I was extreamly pleased with the tenderness of the meat and the delicious and bold beef flavor that was present in my steak. The waiter and service was exceptional and the manager was even gracious enough to give us a tour of the salt room. I would HIGHLY recommend this steakhouse to anyone that likes great beef and is looking for the best steakhouse in Chicago."

  • "If there are any doubt about trying the 75-day aged steak - need not worry! It was the most flavorful, rich-aroma steak I've eaten thus far. Service is very attentive without being too annoying. Great job, guys!"

  • "This place is famous for their aged steaks. I am a filet eater. I don't like marbling or fat, just good flavor. The waiter convinced me to get their dry aged Kansas City steak. He said it would be very tender and lean other than the fat layer around the edge. While the steak was good, it still could not compare to a filet. Mine had a lot of marbling with some tough pieces while my spouses had a lot of tough unchewable pieces. If your a filet eater, stick with the filet. If your not a filet eater, don't mind tough chewy meat and a lot of fat, you will probably enjoy it. Keep in mind however, that you can get an equally tasty steak at many other restaurants in Chicago for the same or less money. Wedge salad is very good. Service was good."

  • "Went here for a bachelor party, and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend the bacon sticks and any of their ribeyes."

  • "The steak I had was exceptionally tender. The staff was very considerate and friendly. The price is a little more than I can afford, but it was wonderful for a special occasion."

  • "Had a nice meal with my wife -expected to pay top dollar but I feel it was a great experience-interesting approach as a steakhouse. Made special request to tour the drying room mentioned to the waiter but it never happened that was disappointing. Also a steakhouse should Never ever run out of spinach! Which they did by 8 pm"

  • "For a restaurant that has some of "top-rated" aged steaks in Chicago, the steak did not live up to the hype whatsoever. The steak was lacking flavor and was not worth anywhere near the $50+ price. In addition to decent steak, the waitress was snobby and pretentious, and seldom checked in on us. Luckily, the appetizers were delicious, or else I would have rated this place a 1. In a nutshell, this place is just not worth the money."

  • "Had 8:45 reservation but we ended up being seated closer to 9:30 (more on that later). Wife - Wedge Salad, 40-Day Rib-eye Me - Caesar Salad, 40-Day Rib-eye Split - Whipped Mashed Potatoes Split - Banana Split Split - Wine All in all, one of the more memorable meals we have had. Steak was definitely the star of the dinner (tender and cooked to perfection - medium) and Rachel (??) picked us a great wine to accompany our meal. Ruffino our waiter was great throughout as well. Again, a great experience and we will definitely be going back. As for the waiting, i think its expected and not something the restaurant can control short of throwing people out if they take too long (but we too lasted hours and didn't feel pressured to leave)."

  • "My girlriend and I started with a few very delicious cocktails. Once seated we had caesar salads which were quite good. I ordered the 75 day aged Ribeye which I rate only 7 out of 10. My girlfriend ordered the bone out filet and it was excellent. The negatives(aside from the disappointing ribeye): We ordered the fries, creamy spinach and mac and cheese. The spinach and mac and cheese were ice cold when we got them. When we sent them back it was as if they already expected that to happen. They seemingly knowingly sent out cold food. When we got the sides back they were so scorching hot my girlfriend burnt the interior of her mouth quite badly. The waiter apologized and we were given mediocre donuts as an apology comp at the end of the meal."

  • "Thumbs up on the dry aged steak. We all received as ordered to the perfect doneness. Try the donut holes desert they were delicious, interactive and fun to eat. On a Sat expect to wait a bit even with reservations, but well worth it (-'"

  • "My fiance and I visit Chicago 8-10 times/year so we know the city as well as anyone that doesn't actually live there. Prior to this trip we were given some suggestions of places to patron and the Primehouse was heavily recommended by several folks that visit Chicago often as well. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of expectations. Sitting down to our table, we first noticed one of the water glasses was filled and substance was smeared on the inside of the glass. We ordered two 40-day aged rib-eyes which were the biggest disappointment. Mine was cold and her's was not cooked to the degree she desired. Nothing was done to resolve this other than cooking her rib-eye a little longer which removed flavor."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Even with reservation we had 30 min wait. Our table was between the bar and dining room, in a busy through way. Side portions were very small, meat was delicious and full of flavor."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "We had my husband's birthday celebration there. Servers were attentive, wines by the glass were outstanding. We had only the caesar salad (spicy and well made) and two of the steaks (strip and ribeye). I'll skip the white anchovies for salad next time, though--I'm used to the classic saltier ones."

  • "I tried David Burke's Primehouse because of the reviews I had seen. My son and I had a reservation on a Sat. night. It was extremely crowded. Crowded enough that we had to wait about 20 minutes even after we arrived on time for our reservation. After we were seated, we ordered the scallops as an appetizer - they were excellent! I got the 40 day aged ribeye and my son got the bone-in filet. They were both very good. The place was energetic because of the crowd. I would recommend this steak house."

  • "not just great steaks. yes the steaks were some of the best you'll get BUT the apps (lobster bisque, etc.,) and desserts were awesome."

  • "We choice to come here being we were celebrating a special occasion and it was rated #1 of the top 20 steakhouses in Chicago Magazine...We have been to virtually steakhouse in the city and though the steaks were cooked to perfection, not worth $51 - $72 They gave an extensive wine list put their prices are off the charts! Average glass of wine (6oz) was approx $45 average bottle in excess of $175 for a bottle. Glad we went because it made us appreciate places like Mortons & Chicago Chop House! Doubt if I would return"

  • "In town for a few days and couldn't get into Gibson's and some reviews rated this higher so thought we'd give it a try. Had reservations at 9 and were seated right away. Service was excellent. I had the 40 day ribeye which was very good but slightly overdone and my girlfriend had the filet which was excellent. Sides were almost too small to share but very good. The cheesecake lollipop tree for dessert was yummy."

  • "I have so many wonderful things to say about our dinner. Our server Tim made us feel welcome and want to return. The bread and bacon was amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly!"

  • "I was disappointed in my experience at David Burke's. It will be my last visit to the restaurant. There are so many other really great places I would prefer to spend my money at. I think it is highly over priced. The sides that should have easily been enough to share were very small and served only one person."

  • "We had a wonderful experience. My husband has wanted to go here for years. The staff offered him a private tour in the middle of their dinner crowed. Thank you for making our honeymoon a memorable experience. The food was excellent."

  • "I visited Primehouse during a trip to Chicago with friends. We wanted steak. And we certainly got steak! Our waiter educated us to David Burke's drying technique and made excellent suggestions. The Caesar salad is made table side and the wedge w blue cheese is a stunning classic. The steaks were great. Service was very attentive. Desserts were out of this world, especially the cheesecake lollipop tree. My only criticism of the meal is the sides, which were way too small. I love that we did not leave w overburdened stomachs, but I would have loved it even more if I had more than a large spoonful of the creamy spinach. The dining room, when crowded, certainly has a buzz; but is never so distracting that you can't hear your dining companions."

  • "I was extremely excited to eat at David Burke's. Many of my friends raved about it, so my expectations were quite high. PROS: Bacon on a stick....AWESOME Sevice: Very good and the sommelier was knowledgeable CONS: Fish was overcooked and lacked flavor Prime Rib was over cooked and the flavor was just ok Wine List was very limited on wines under $120 Overall the dining experience was better than the food. I am glad that I went there and can check it off my list, but we probably will not return unless someone else is paying."

  • "We had a wonder evening with family and friends......Cory was our waiter and he did everything to make it a great evening for all 10 of us! Exceptional service and great menu suggestions. A little pricey but well worth it for a treat!"

  • "The 55 day aged ribeye was amazing and cooked perfectly. The tea collection surprised me. Many places don't carry tea, and I loved the choices and the dessert was very good too."

  • "I chose this place for my birthday dinner and was glad I did. The food was great and the portions were generous without being too much. You will be pleasantly full. The service was excellent at a price you'd expect for a restaurant of this caliber but it won't break the bank. We'll be back and recommended it to others. Want a great steak dinner and dining experience then call and make a reservation."

  • "Our dinner at David Burke's Primehouse was wonderful. The food was perfect: Perfect service, perfect presentation, perfect tasting and perfect enjoyment! We shared things in order to try more and there was no problem about that. Our server Scott was wonderful, always checking, but never bothering us unnecessarily. It was a lovely meal and evening. Can't wait to go back...my neighbor is jealous, so it will be soon!"

  • "Enjoyed the aged ribeye I had here, but honestly it was not the best steak I've had. It was charred more on the outside than I like and not as medium rare as I would have liked. The sides were different. We had the sweet potato stuffing which was good but not sweet enough for me. The asparagus was an interesting combination. The mushrooms were delicious and you could not taste the nuts in them at all. For dessert, I had the chocolate waffle-like cake with ice cream and chocolate ganache which was very good. This is a good restaurant with excellent service, but on a scale of 1-10 I would rate the food a 7."

  • "The experience was outstanding. The pot stickers were flavorful and not too filling. The Caesar salad was light and the best I have had. The cheese popovers were unforgettable. The light starter fare was a perfect warm up to the star of the show, the steak. Enormous and well-prepared. Interesting touches throughout the meal- being able to lick the beaters used to prepare the cake in the can. I am not normally a fan of red velvet cake but this was delicious- warm with a light cream cheese frosting, and homemade vanilla ice cream. Enough to take home and share with the family. We will definitely be back- this one has moved to the top of the list as a Chicago favorite."

  • "Had a wonderful 55 day old Ribeye, however next time I have to remember to call prior to reserve the 75 day aged because they were out for the second time in a row. I guess it is my fault because steaks that good will not last long. On top of the wonderful meal our waiter and trainee(I think) were fantastic and very knowledgeable. Well Done and I can't wait for next time."

  • "The 40 day ribeye was "melt-in-your-mouth" good. The bourbon glazed mushrooms were a good side with the ribeye. Our table ended the meal with the cake-in-a-can, which was also great. They give you the beaters with left-over batter. They spread the frosting on the warm cake, which comes a la mode. You need to pre-order the desert in advance, and it is a big cake meant for a larger group and not a couple. We also took a tour of the aging room with the Himalayan salt."

  • "Food was good. First time to try a dry aged steak. Not really my favorite but it's also not what I'm used to. Crab croutons on Cesar salad are yummy! Service was great. A couple near us was letting their toddler run around the restaurant and she kept running up to our table and and trying to take our food. I think our experience would have been a little better without this. Also the James cocktail was excellent"
