A word from David Burke Fromagerie
Upscale yet whimsical is the best description for David Burke Fromagerie, an American restaurant in Rumson, NJ featuring celebrity chef, David Burke. With this well-known epicurean master at the helm, the menu is rife with modern American cuisine sure to please the most distinguished of palates. Located in a historical Victorian home, the unique decor which includes toys suspended from the ceiling in the "attic,” creates a non-stuffy, yet upscale dining atmosphere. Add to any meal with a selection of fine wine from the cellar, which is also available for private parties and tastings.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great time at Fromagerie for my son-in-laws birthday. It was our first visit and we weren't disappointed the portions for burger night were fantastic. My daughter & Son-in-law both had the traditional burger and loved it! I had the vegetarian burger and it was Okay, I wouldn't get it again, not much flavor and the texture was such that it kept falling apart. The only other complain is there were some very loud young children there, the room is small so it was pretty noisy. The bread basket is off the chart delicious and the salad they serve was good as well. They brought a large blue cotton candy with the check for his birthday which was nice. Overall a very nice evening."

  • "We were seated in the bar area. I didnt know they have choices and found they had a dining room after we were finished with our meal. We were not given a choice, had they asked we would have preferred the dining room. Both were empty when we arrived on a Tuesday, so I assume it wouldn't have been a problem. The bar area filled up and was loud, they had someone playing guitar and some loud bar patrons. It was not as relaxing as I would have liked. The service was good, a bit overattentive. The waiter probably stopped by and asked if everything was ok about 6 times. He also asked my dining partner to cut his steak in half when it was served to ensure it was cooked properly, I thought this was strange. "

  • "this is what our failed and useless lives have become ? overpriced factory food that we be expected to bow and genuflect in front of ?"

  • "We had wanted to try the restaurant and took advantage to do so during Jersey Shore Restaurant Week. Loved the creative appetizers like Bacon Tasting and Pretzel Crusted Crab Cakes. Our entrees Branzino and Cod were very good. The Crème Brulee was one of the best I have every had, and I have had a few too many. I would love to dine here again, but I think the prices are a little steep for our pocket book, maybe another special event."

  • "There was a good selection of items for each course with several having additional charges. The heftiest charge was $35 for a 55 day dry aged steak, but you did not have to spend extra. This was relaxed dining with a little dressier crowd. Dinner was about two hours and there were several nice additions. They came around with an amuse bouche of chicken salad in a cone and cotton candy after dessert."

  • "We went for restaurant week-an incredible meal, attentive, enjoyable service. Waiter was engaging, knowledgeable about menu. 1st I had onion soup-very delicious. Mom had homemade pasta, calamari, baby shrimp &ricotta-delicious & good size portion. Waiter brought around sample of chicken salad w truffle served in petite cone-yum. Main course-braised short ribs, cavatelli, assorted mushrooms, topped w little truffle sauce. Was excellent& unique. Again, good size portion. Dessert- I had flourless chocolate torte &on side was small glass of pudding w butterscotch &chocolate wafer pearls. Again delicious. Mom had creme brulee. The entire meal and service was so good, & of course the total cost was incredible for 3 course, almost 2 hour dinner!"

  • "My friend & I had a wonderful dinner with great service & fabulous food. I've been here a number of times & have always enjoyed myself immensely. I would recommend Fromagerie to all my family & friends. I definitely will return."

  • "Wife and I sampled from the Restaurant Week menu. Overall food was very well crafted, several items compliments of chef were added treats. The bronzini and salmon were cooked to perfection. Never disappointed when eating her. Our server (Kaye) was very helpful and professional - all too often a rare find these days!"

  • "We were looking forward to this brunch for a long time. From not being met at the front door to running out of food choices , it was a huge disappointment. There weren't enough people manning the different stations and one person was cutting meat, making Mac n cheese to order and making crepes. Lines were long and items weren't replenished. The omelettes were not very good either. Service was sporatic and assumptive. Not worth the money."

  • "You asked....here goes....Drinks at the bar... overpriced. If we were overlooking some gardens or water.....perhaps. We had two bottles of wine .....overpriced. Experienced wine drinkers can see the markup from a town away. Food......good.....portions not so good. The valet service great. The server great. Keep the expensive paper towels and give the difference back to the customer. You are in Rumson......so what. Take my advise and the place would have been packed."

  • "Haven't been here since the 1980's (Dinner was great then too) Saw an ad for Restaurant Week and went to the website. Found the Brunch Menu and booked immediately. Everything from scratch. Excellent quality. Looking forward to trying out the Dinner Menu."

  • "We went to the Fromagerie during Jersey Shore restaurant week. ($30.14) for limited 3 course menu. We started with a basket of bread/goodies. The mini bread sticks were amazing. The rest of the basket was great, don't know what the muffin, flaking dough this was, but I wanted more of it. Salmon mouse shooter was just O.K. to me. The Apps were terriffic. Shrimp calamari/ pasta., and the French Onion soup. The short ribs were incredible!!!. The Brandzino was a good, but a little plain for our taste, good flavor, but no sauce. Profiterolls and chocolate cake were a super send off. Oh, and the $5.00 happy hour glass of wine was a great surprise. Waiter Corey was terrific. I owe him a better tip, will be back to make good on that."

  • "Food is alway fantastic. Service is always top notch. Thank you, Brant, for you wonderful wine recommendation! Staff is very knowledgable about then food, the wine, and the restaurant in general. Staff is attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant offers an excellent menu that changes seasonally. I've never had anything less than an excellent experience here."

  • "David Burke's Fromagerie used to be a neighborhood gem but that is no longer the case. The food is barely mediocre and the prices are absurdly high for what you get. The petite filet was enormously disappointing and the a la carte sides (carrots & creamed spinach) were not the least bit special. The wine list is impressive but pricey. When one decides to eat at a place like Fromagerie, one expects to pay for quality. The entire experience was a travesty. Never again!"

  • "Whether we eat from the Weekly Tasting menu, the regular menu, or the Jersey Shore Restaurant Week menu always a treat! I am a very good cook and we only go to restaurants that make items that I can not recreate-time and time again, we find ourselves here. It may be a special occasion or a "just because" we were in the mood day!"

  • "We avoided Fromagerie based on the number of negatives reviews on yelp! But with a birthday to celebrate and no available reservations we decided to take a shot. The service was excellent, great job Ryan! The food very good and the setting quit and romantic. I travel weekly and eat out at least five times a week. I am very critical of my restaurant experiences. Happy to say Fromagerie surpassed expectations!"

  • "We were shocked at how tasteless and bland the food was here. We've been to several other David Burke restaurants in the city and loved them. Every single thing we ordered here -- from appetizer to entree to dessert -- was flavorless. The presentation was great, but the food really missed the mark."

  • "My favorite restaurant in NJ. Excellent comfort food, great staff and always accommodating. They recognize repeat customers and call you by name. The Sunday brunch has everything the big venues have without the hassle or high cost. Don't miss this one!"

  • "We have dined here 3 times over the last 2 years hoping the experience would be better than the last but it has not been the case. This was our second brunch here and again not near what you would expect from David Burke. Empty trays, cold and poorly prepared food. The spinach omelet ordered by two in our party was sent back because of the very strong fish taste. Service was also off; slow in clearing trays and always asking for refills on coffee. We have gone back only as often as we have because of gift cards my wife keeps receiving from work. In the future I think we will give them away. Spend your money elsewhere, like the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank for brunch."

  • "Everytime I dine at David Burke Fromagerie I always have a wonderful experience. The food is delicious and the entire staff there is so gracious and attentive. I was just there for brunch with my family and my 5 year old niece loved the experience. Balloons everywhere and the magician walking around and all the desserts and the delicious doughnuts she couldn't get enough of it, it's truly a great time for the kids!"

  • "The food was outstanding! The eggs benedict were exceptional! Expansive selection and everything was delicious. Well worth the fixed price. The only downside was the noise level. It was very difficult to have conversation. Also, the atmosphere was a bit 'frantic' with waiters and waitresses traversing the rooms. The restaurant was very accommodating to ensure my needs were met during the reservation process. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Top of the line service without the stuffiness. Food is explained in an enthusiastic way but not over bearing. She had a bottle of wine and I had their first (first to order as well) beer in a can. One of the only places I order a steak. The Ribeye is phenomenal, as are the specials."

  • "From the time you are greeted at the front door to the time you leave, it is a wonderful experience! Our server was amazingly attentive and her recommendations were spot on! The food was delicious and you must leave room for dessert! The Creme Brûlée was the best I've every had. It was our first time dining there and we will definitely return in the future!"

  • "Starting off with a warm and friendly welcome at the coat check and ending with complementary savory cotton candy with our check, dining at the 'framage' is always a pleasant and delectable evening. Never disappoints. Just a few of the standouts for us were: Burke In The Bottle Smoked Sour & Rye beer, PORTUGUESE Steamed Clams, Short Rib GRILLED Cheese, oysters. Burke has all the bases covered here. Location, parking, staff, service, bar, and the MENU! Delicious. All with class. We'll be back."

  • "My hubby, our 3 year old and I had Sunday brunch and it was amazing! For $34, (and free for kids!), you get so much variety and great quality. My daughter enjoyed her meal, which is not your usual "kiddie meal". Will definitely come back!"

  • "I had an Open Table Reservation for 4 for a special occasion with friends. We came on time but were seated upstairs with the children's tables and a large noisy party table. Both ruined the experience and the meal which was good but not remarkable. There were other tables available on the main floor for our party, but we were seniors and just pushed around. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would not return. There are lots of other bettwe choices in this town."

  • "We had the most wonderful, romantic & fun Valentine's day dinner here! A truly satiating experience, right down to their famous cotton candy sendoff and sweets for the ride home. The prix fixe choices were outstanding and a great sampling of some of our favorites. My partner and I have shared this place with friends, family and guests & will continue to do so. The staff, ambiance, food, decor and overall pleasant warm perfect!"

  • "I think the name should explain it all. Every aspect of the restaurant is classy, the Matre D, to the bus boys are pleasant and responsive. Service was slightly slow,, but it was a very busy Valentines day, and the wait staff more than made up for it with a pleasant disposition. I will be returning here often for special occasions, and entertaining family from out of town. Best of all,,, the Fromagerie is only minuets from home."
