Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was terrific, and it could have been an outstanding dining experience except for the noise level, even upstairs."

  • "Great food with top-notch service. Food delivery could be slowed just a bit."

  • "Go on a Sunday the lobster menu is very tasty. I had the dumplings, angry lobster and cheesecake tree. All of the courses were delicious."

  • "Love the Townhouse which is currently closed. Thought we would try Fishtail. Pretty place but not as elegant as the Townhouse. Nice price fixed menu but food is uninspired and not memorable. No reason to go back except for the wonderful waiter,Adonis( yes that is his name!)"

  • "At the end of my meal the waitress accidentally spilled an entire glass of water on my lap. She apologized and got me napkins and said well thankfully it wasn't the margarita I've been drinking all night and left it at that. There was no accommodation in regards to making up for her mistake like free drinks or desserts or even an approach from the manager saying we're sorry and please accept our apologies with a drinks coupon for your next time here. I felt it was very poor service to the customer."

  • "Food was good. Service was only mediocre but the noise level was too much. We were a party of 4 and couldn't have a conversation. I had to ask the waitress to repeat herself more than once. The tables were too close together also."

  • "Fishtail has a whimsical name, and a unique menu from David Burke's imagination. The appetizers were delicious, including the crab cake balls. The lobster sliders were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the Nori crusted Tuna. For dessert, the cheesecake lollipops are not to be missed. We ate downstairs and our server was had a terrific personality and took very good care of us. She made a great meal even better."

  • "disappointed with the drinks happy hour wines were of cheap quality bartender could not make requested drinks order, did not have a common element that all bars carry, ginger beer mojito's were the worst we ever had and what made it worse, they were 14 each booked reservation with open table as special occassion, birthday not recognized by restaurant, very disappointing"
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The high loud noise level ruined the dining experience."

  • "Found the restaurant on a list provided by our hotel. After reading the menu, chose it because we were looking for fish/seafood. Branzino is a favorite fish and we weren't disappointed by it or any part of the meal. Impeccable service, well trained staff. Recommend it--would go back."

  • "I think they were understaffed on this day that we went although as always the food was good and the place very cozy. Service was less than stellar on this day although the lone wait staff was very gracious and apologetic so it made the wait times bearable."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "We had made reservations and always end up in the front room. Would have preferred back especially since they had a table of approximately 15-20 business men that came in and then you were not able to have any conversation at our table."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Absolutely a spot on restaurant. Both the food and service were perfect I would recommend this to all. We ate in the bar area which at 5:15 was hopping but service was not impacted. We decided no to have a main course but instead ordered 4 appetizers because we were tempted by all. I will return to try the rest."

  • "service was not that good at all. waited a long time for a table. fish was good. glassware did not match the whole table. waitress was rude."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The appetizer special was a tomato & watermelon gazpacho with crab meat. It was amazing. As was the sea bass main course. Perfect for a Summer night. Apple tart & coffee. And I forgot to mention the sauvignon blanc wine which was wonderful. The service was also outstanding. A very friendly waiter. Very helpful with the menu. He announced the prices of the daily specials which I appreciated very much. I will be back."

  • "The food and service was excellent. The only criticism was the 2 females next to us we're very obnoxious and loud. Dropping "F" word aloud which was very annoying not only to us but other patrons. The manager should have stepped in."

  • "We ate in the bar area and watched the World Cup. Service was the best - waitress and bartender. Food was fantastic. Would recommend."

  • "I usually love Fishtail. Dining at this beautiful town house on a tree lined street in the upper east side makes one feel as though they are invited to a special home. The lobster bisque was as good as I have ever had. This trip, we were celebrating the birthday of a friend in from out of town. Unfortunately, several options were not available to her as she is gluten intolerant. Also, we sat forever waiting for my husband's dessert which never came. The server brought the bill before checking. She was apologetic but this was not up to the standard we expect and have experienced at this restaurant. Don't put your fork down or someone will try to swoop in and remove your plate. I hate that."

  • "We loved the lobster louis brunch. There was good variety to choose from and the food looked and tasted delicious. There was a bridal shower in another room and that is the reason the noise level was little higher. We sat in a lovely alcove."

  • "In restaurant week, Fishtail provides a whole lunch menu, so you have a lot to choose from. We ordered surf turf dumplings and fried oysters for appetizer, they are both very good in taste and appearance! we ordered salmon BLT and shrimp pasta for entree, both are satisfying and in a big portion. And we had lollipop cheese cake for dessert, it's very cute and impressive."

  • "Walked in and seeing the staff hanging and horsing around by the kitchen set the tone for the night. Right away I felt that this was not a "tightly run ship" but a looser, not so serious restaurant. After about a 5 minute wait, a 50 something Bartender came over and was not focused on us, he was talking to another staff while trying to wait on us. We then asked for a HOUSE white wine, but instead served a brand @ $21 a glass! Realized it when we closed the tab to move to our seats upstairs. Started with the not-so-big "Tower"- the raw was delish, the lobster however was the size of a jumbo shrimp. We ordered the 'special' Crab for another app, but instead was served Calamari (Focus!). Entrees (Skate & Tuna) were tasty but small portion. "

  • "What a wonderful dining experience. My boyfriend and I arrived fairly early for an 8:00 reservation so we decided to have a drink at the bar before checking in with the hostess. The bartender was so friendly and helped me pick out a wine he thought I would enjoy based on what I told him I usually liked. After hanging at the bar we checked in for our reservation and the hostess seated us in a great spot upstairs. Our waitress was wonderful and gave good recommendations. We chose the lobster rigatoni and seafood tower to share, both were delicious. I highly recommend Fishtail if you are looking for a nice seafood restaurant to try for a date night. "

  • "Simply, yes. Holy moly was it good. The nori crusted tuna was spectacular. My mother and I are still talking about the food 2 days later. I cannot wait to get back to NYC just so I can eat here again! "

  • "WE were celebrating my birthday, and wanted a very special romantic place to eat close to our hotel on the upper east side. Fishtail was recommended by our concierge. It was wonderful: intimate atmosphere (in a townhouse), great service, many wonderful seafood selections and delicious food. Loved our meal, the atmosphere and very accommodating wait staff. Couldn't have picked a better place for a special occasion. Our guest was a foodie from Chicago and she appreciates good dining. We were all impressed with Fishtail and we will be back."

  • "Made a reservation for a birthday celebration and it was noted in the reservation. Upon arrival, we were left waiting to be seated for 25 minutes. The staff apologized profusely but no one offered a complimentary anything to apologize for the inconvenience. Once seated, we were seated in the center of the front room upstairs. Couldn't hear a thing since the noise level was overwhelming. That said, the staff was attentive to the dietary/allergy needs of the party and the food, once served, was outstanding. Off to a rocky start, the evening left everyone satiated. "

  • "Everything was great! Can hardly wait to go back to NYC and visit them again. Hope that david burke townhouse has finished their renovation by that time also. Love that restaurant also!"

  • "Had always wanted to eat at a David Burke restaurant - this was the one we chose and we weren't disappointed. Food was excellent. Lobster cocktail was delicious (although server delivered a shrimp cocktail at first -oops). Entrees were delicious especially the skate chope, the swordfish and the pappardelle. Perfectly seasoned and cooked with rich, piquant sauces. Fishtail Pie was good but nothing special while the fruit bowl was just that - fruit in a bowl. Prices seemed exorbitant even compared to other New York restaurants. $8 for two glasses of ice tea - regular tea, with nothing out of the ordinary to distinguish it from fast food tea??? But it was a treat to eat there and we'll try one of Chef Burke's other places soon."

  • "Went for a very special birthday dinner, and loved everything about it. Despite the upper west side location, this restaurant serves brilliant food, with good service, and absolutely without pretention. Exactly what we were looking for. The food was simply brilliant. Please get the angry calamari and the tomato gratin. Lobster roll and lobster cockatils were perfect."
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "The lobster appetizer was delightful - consisting of a small cup of lobster salad and a small lobster tail. As an entree, the nori and mustard crusted tuna was absolutely superb - the crunchy, flavorful nori adding texture to the warm perfectly cooked tuna itself. Service could not have been friendlier and I was delighted by the wine selection. My only critique was the room itself; unlike David Burke Townhouse it is a more open and therefore noisy space that lacks some of charm I was expecting; the tables downstairs in the bar also have a bit of a "diner feel". But that's a very small issue compared to the terrific food and generally tasteful ambiance. Would definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "THIS is what dining out is meant to be. The place is elegant and classic and the service, exceptional. The popovers were perfectly baked. The salad was a light, delightful mix of greens and onions. The portions were sizable (more than I could eat) and DELICIOUS...really, every morsel. I had the branzino, my friend the simple tuna - both delicately prepared - they were moist, flavorful and delectable. We topped it off with the apple tart/crisp and had to resist licking the plate. We thoroughly enjoyed the cosmopolitan atmosphere - a great place to take a mate or dear friend, lose yourself in conversation while being treated like special guests. I hadn't seen my friend in months and we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. We'll be back, again."

  • "We typically eat downtown, where we live but someone made us a gift of a dinner at Fishtail. Cold popovers, crab cakes that were not lump crab but a mush of something and a perfectly cooked but entirely bland salmon was my experience. Additionally, service was very rushed, without a break between courses. We knew of David Burke through his original FROMAGERIE restaurant in NJ, where we once lived, and it was and still is a gourmet delight. I don't think we will even use the remaining $200 bakance on our gift card, sadly."

  • "This place is wonderful in every way. The food was excellent! The service was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was charming. We went there for our Anniversary, and had the best time. I can't wait to go back and next time it won't be for a special occasion it will be just because I love everything abut it!!! "
