Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed our dinner at David Burke Fishtail very much. We particularly enjoyed the enthusiasm of the sommelier Katie who brought us our amazing bottle of Clos Ste. Hune. The cheesecake lollipops lived up to the hype as well."

  • "It was good overall but the tables might be to close to each other which could be a problem if u sit next to a jerk."

  • "Gave Fishtail a second chance. Will never go back again. The silverware was dirty, took 14 minutes to get olives for martini that they added an up charge for straight up. Atleast this time the AC was working & not a fire trap downstairs like last time. Too expensive to have 2 disappointing meals in a row. They knew I was unhappy the last time & did nothing about it for the return visit. Poor management."

  • "I liked the David Burke Town House and was looking forward to the Fishtail. Unfortunately, the place was packed and so noisy that we did not enjoy the dinner at all. I must say that I happen to go there during the restaurant week. I think the place was over-booked. The popover was cold and there was no "wow" factor in the seasoning on the fish. The waiter was excellent."

  • "Thought I would be getting a restaurant week bargain, unfortunately, did not. Portions were not very generous The drinks were expensive. Around $20 each for both cocktails and wine by the glass. And the worst part was that although service was courteous we felt rushed. The 3 course dinner was served in under an hour. So if you want to enjoy an unrushed dinner this is not the place at least not during restaurant week."

  • "Drinks are very expensive, waited for an hour for the table although had reservation. Food was ok, deserts very good, understaffed."
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "The young female sommelier brought us a 2012 bottle rather than the 2012 we ordered. The 2011 was what was listed on the extensive hard bound wine list. First she said the menu had a typo, then she said 2012 was better. Neither line sounded right. She also could not clearly tell us why the 2012 was better. The fod was good but not exceptional."

  • "High quality seafood in a townhouse setting. Expensive wine list with barely an affordable choice unless you've got a corporate card."
    Dined on 7/27/2014
  • "Everything was perfect as usual. Food, service, ambience, greeting upon entering. Everything"

  • "The branzino was wonderful, the tuna a little less so but all in all a great restaurant with top quality service."

  • "I love black & blue Ahi tuna. The tuna I had on Saturday, the 26th, was by far the absolute best I have ever had. It was grilled with just a slight touch of salt. The grilling was perfection. The edges just slightly more than medium and the center was red and cool. I am drooling for another piece now. My wife had the grilled bronzino which also was prepared fabulously. Can't wait to go back."

  • "The food was wonderful, but, no doubt due to Restaurant Week, the room was very crowded with too much noise."

  • "Fishtail always serves off the regular menu, which is much appreciated. The food is creative and, as usual, very good. There are many diners, but everything was under control. Two small issues: First, our touchy-feely waiter felt the need to touch my back or shoulder every time he spoke to me and my guest. Didn't say anything, but felt his actions were intrusive. Second, Fishtail charged $7 for bottle of general sparkling water and $5 for a cup of decaf coffee. Both seemed high, although given the 'restaurant week bargain', it's something I can live with. Overall, I highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "I don't think I, personally, would go back to this restaurant. The food overall was quite good, though my companion and I both did not like our appetizers. The entrees were spectacular. Service was 100% on-point and very friendly. Our server was wonderful and helpful. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of dining so close to other people. The tables are crammed so close together that just trying to get up can become a disaster. Additionally my dining experience was ruined by the couple sat next to us. Since the tables are so close together you cannot help but overhear someone else's snide remarks. In my case, I had to overhear them disparaging me and my companion. This just proves that the crowd can make or break a dining experience."

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday at Fishtail Friday night and discovered that the diners at the two adjoining tables were doing the same. Clearly, Fishtail's patrons view this as a good place for a celebration. Even though it was restaurant week, we opted for dishes that had an additional charge - a great idea as it keeps the price low and the options high. The oysters were fabulous as was the lobster bisque. My martini was the best I have had with olives stuffed with truffled feta cheese. My only "complaint", if you could call it that, is that you have to order the lollipop cheese cake tree for two. My husband loves it so that is what we had but I would have preferred one of the other options."

  • "we went for dinner during restaurant week and the food was great. the wine list, however, had nothing less than $75. they really should have at least 5 choices in the $50 dollar range. we enjoyed a nice bottle priced at $80. both meals selected had a supplemental charge, which was expected, but even with restaurant week prices dinner for 2 was well over $200 with tax and tip. for that kind of money I would rather go to Gramercy Tavern."

  • "Extensive menu for Restaurant week. Good value. Great food. Great service. Will definitely come back even if it's not Restaurant week."

  • "Had a very nice evening at Fishtail, we very much enjoyed our meals and the service was also very good. Liked it so much, in fact, that I returned for the happy hour specials the next day."

  • "We were visiting NYC from the UK and booked as part of restaurant week. The starters and mains were excellent but the dessert disappointed. The parfait was actually an English trifle, and I hate whipped cream desserts. Neither my friend or I managed half of it. Granted it was restaurant week but we needed a tin opener to prise us in and out of our seats. My friend's plates were handed to her over my head. I knocked a wine glass and it ended up in the chap' slap at the table next to us. Also, whilst service was great, four different staff managed our table and we had a three course menu delivered and eaten in 55 minutes. Not very relaxed. Black Sea bass and grapefruit was a revelation and the crayfish and avocado tian was delicious."

  • "I probably expected more from a David Burke's restaurant. I have tried the Townhouse last year for lunch and it was very good. This time the service was not that attentive (they forgot the bread and we had to ask twice for it) and the food was average. If you pay 38$ for a three courses dinner it is ok, but if the quality is the same when you pay $36 for a quarter of a branzino, definitely it is not worth it."

  • "Food was decent not as good as expected. Service was poor, felt rushed and unwanted. Nice seating though and ambience"

  • "We had a reservation for 8:30 p.m., but were able to sit at 9:20, and were not able to order the food until 9:55. There were no apologies (except the hostess downstairs) . I have been there before, and I still think that the food is good. However, I will not go there again until I hear that they are no longer overcrowding the place."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "We showed up on time to our reservation but it took almost an hour to seat us. The place was very busy and loud. It felt like being in a loud bar. I had to yell to talk to my friend. The service was decently quick and polite. The appetizers were possibly the best part of the meal. The meal itself was very lackluster. The Fish was either overcooked or slightly underseasoned. I would not recommend to anyone."

  • "While the food was simply wonderful, the restaurant was extremely warm on a very hot day. The noise level was such that you couldn't hear the person next to you speak. Other than that, the experience was divine."

  • "We went for Restaurant Week and the menu was truly fantastic. So many selections!! Really a great deal. The food was delicious and the wait staff was very friendly. Our only disappointment was the sommelier. We ordered a bottle of wine that we actually knew and were excited to see on the menu. When the sommelier brought the wine, I noticed that it was a different wine from what was listed on the menu. Same winery, different wine. I pointed it out because clearly he hadn't even looked. He also couldn't recommend something similar to the one we wanted (they didn't have it) because he had never tasted it. (Isn't that his job?) We ended up trying the one he brought in the first place but it was far inferior to the one we wanted. Bummer."

  • "One of the best Restaurant Week offerings. Food is excellent. Bar Happy Hour is a must-have between 5-7 pm!"

  • "Nice range of options on the menu. Dessert presentation was a standout -- cheesecake lollipops were extraordinary. Very NY crowd from young to old. Each room has it's own vibe. Bar area also great for slightly more casual dining."

  • "This was our first and only experience at any David Burkes restaurants. Awesome wonderful time. Great drinks and appetizers. Friendly bar staff. Then dinner at a table in bar area. Food exceptional. Wonderful waitress and service. All staff was superb. Cannot wait to return."

  • "Had a great friendly waitress, and the food was really good. I liked that they had a big restaurant week menu with some really great options"

  • "Had another great dining experience at Fishtail, again for restaurant week. Decided to expand my palate and try something different, as I can get very picky and often will resort to the same comfortable options. What's nice about their menu is that there are options that suit everyone...something comfortable like a pasta dish or steak frites, or something different to try. My guest and I both had the crab cakes appetizer. She had the lobster rigatoni with a rich tomato sauce and a slight hint of spice. I had the grilled salmon with artichoke hummus and red quinoa, which was flavorful and fun to mix all mediums together or eat separately. Last but not least, we shared the DB classic...the cheesecake lollipops! So much fun!"

  • "Food was delicious, service was great. We had a relatively secluded table, so there was minimal noise."

  • "Sunday is Lobster Louie night and in the past the baked lobster was stuffed and large. I ordered it this past Sunday and the plate contained 3 small pieces of lobster. The waitress informed me that they serve a lighter dinner in the Summer. The price however was not lighter. Also, we wanted coffee but it was never offered as the check was put on the table. Another example of a very high priced NYC restaurant with less then satisfactory rewards to the consumer"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "The food was good (I had the Lobster Louie on a Sunday Brunch), and service was attentive. Price was slightly on the high side - though expected as it is mid-town Manhattan. A cool place to be at least for once."

  • "This is the second time at David Burke Fishtail. Love the place and would go back a third time. Service was better first visit, it was also a Saturday night. Second visit was a weekday, Wednesday, service was still good but not as good as the first visit. Food is fantastic, atmosphere fantastic, comfortable, elegant but not formal. A lovely find."

  • "I been here a few times in the past and the food was always top of the line. Today I felt different, the food looked like leftovers and not like a grilled lobster. It's sad to see how the quality of the food has dropped. Also, the staff freely curse at the bar with some of the kitchen staff."

  • "I've been to Fishtail a few times when my family came into town and we always have a good time. Don't know if it's the food or the family but I always have a great time here."

  • "My wife and I both had the grilled swordfish with Puttanesca sauce. It was a very generous portion of swordfish and delicious. The restaurant is pricey but the food quality and service was worth it."

  • "We live on the upper east side and if we stay in the neighborhood, this is our regular place. It never disappoints. I love the octopus. I always try a fish dish and I tried the tuna this time for my entree with soba noodles. It was so good. Of course, we will return."

  • "Everything was terrific, and it could have been an outstanding dining experience except for the noise level, even upstairs."
