Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoy Fishtail whenever we go. It's a good thing the staff is great because they made our 40 minute wait enjoyable. Barkeep was entertaining and attentive. Suggested we get an appetizer while waiting. Not sure why a confirmed 7:30 and on time patron has to wait that long but perhaps it was an anomaly. "

  • "I was disappointed by the food. I had the Branzino which was good but it was on a bed of cold and undercooked broccolini. The Carmel parfait was a disappointment. "

  • "Mediocre food sensationally over-priced for the quality. Indifferent service. The minute we walked out the door, we both said: won't be back."

  • "We did the lunch tasting menu and it was excellent. The angry calamari was memorable, as was the brown butter and sugar pie. Service was friendly and attentive. We felt as though we were in someone's dining room. Would definitely return."

  • "The food was only O.K. There are better places in New York."

  • "The restaurant was fine, the fish was fresh but nothing really to write home about. It was disturbing to walk into the restaurant by having to negotiate a long bar with TV screens showing baseball. A sports bar within what is claimed to be a high end restaurant?? Not good. Upstairs dining room was nice. As stated : all fine, nothing great, probably over-priced - could easily do better elsewhere. Not sure why this restaurant is rated so highly. I will not be going back."

  • "Went with my coworkers had a really great time. I had the tomato soup and the cheesecake lollipops with bubble gum whip cream which was out of this world."

  • "Terrible acoustics and crowded and noisy. As excellent as the food and service was ( it was), I would not return for dinner."

  • "I had brunch on Sunday with my daugther ( 7 yrs old), we were having a Mommy and daughter day in the city. It was relaxed, the food was delicious and the service was attentive. The Lobster dumpling bisque was outstanding and a must ! My daughter loved her blueberry pancakes and fell in love with the signature Lollipop dessert tree !Fishtail is a real treat, I would highly recommend."

  • "This is a smaller quieter and therefore better NYC restaurant. It has very good food and very attentive service. Highly recommended for these attributes."

  • "Despite the fact that we were a half hour late, we were treated with great courtesy, and accommodated for every whim. The food, of course, is simply splendid! We'll go again next chance we get."

  • "The service was amazing, the food was amazing as well as the dessert. I don't think my water glass ever fell below the halfway mark. Will definitely recommend to friends and family!"

  • "The service was extremely poor. We waited 30 minutes from the time the appetizer plates were cleared to when the entrees were delivered. We waited almost as long from the time the entree plates were cleared and the desserts were delivered. In addition, one of thes desserts was not what had been ordered and there was a 10 minute wait for the correct order. There were no apologies or explanations for any of the delays."

  • "Our first visit to Fishtail was wonderful and we hope to re-visit on another trip to New York! From the moment we were greeted at the welcome desk, we were well treated by each of the restaurant staff. Our server was very accomodating, answered our questions, made sure our water and wine glasses were filled in a timely manner and appetizers, entrees and desserts were served in a relaxing, yet timely manner. Recommendations for food choices and wine selection were on target. Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "My companion had taken European business associates to this restaurant years ago and it was also noisy at that time. So much so, that with their European accents he said it was impossible to hear their conversation. He had to keep asking what did they say. If he had known we were going to this restaurant he would have asked me to cancel the reservation. The food was good, but the ambience not. I had gone to the Donatella and Burke Restaurant years ago and loved it -- the ambience and the food were really great. We will not be going to David Burke Fishtail again."

  • "Best part of dinner was the food and the sommelier's recommendations and his service. The waitstaff was only ok. There were too many people "sharing" our table so I did not know who our waitor was.."

  • "It was truly superb. Both service and food. What a treat. We loved it!"

  • "Went here during restaurant week for lunch. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was on point and the restaurant itself was very comforting. Highly recommended! The dumplings and the fried oysters are a must."

  • "We are never disappointed at David Burke's restaurants. I prefer seasoned fish, but I've also gotten simply grilled. We really enjoyed the broccoli preparation , lightly fried and crisp, better than this description, I recommend it."

  • "Went during restaurant week and enjoyed the dumplings, braised short rib and cheesecake pops. We were running late and everyone was very accommodating to get us out the door for show time without feeling rushed. Would definitely recommend"

  • "Excellent Chef Rodemeyer kept the delicious treats coming. I took my boyfriend here for a birthday brunch, and we were not disappointed."

  • "We expected great food, and were even more pleased than we imagined. Standouts were the hamachi crudo and angry calamari appetizers, prawn entrée and salt-crusted branzino - and our group requested more of the fabulous popovers (Old Bay and cheddar!). I did NOT share the crudo. The wine list is varied and good, and the service was very attentive in the good way - never intrusive but always helpful and available. Loved it, and will be back often."

  • "Came for restaurant week and they imposed a Restaurant-Week only Menu, which was a good deal for price but the selections were limited and not so spectacular. Food was not that good, especially for the price. Had the Branzino which was small but okay, and a braised short rib which seemed so ordinary. $9 sides were a rip off notably the broccoli tots - salty, greasy, overfried nuggets which taste more like the batter than broccoli. Space was so cramp that I could hear all conversations til the 4th table down - hmm communal dining? ' Service was fair, a tad on the prissy side."

  • "I had lunch on a Sunday during Restaurant Week. The restaurant was very busy, but the staff was pleasant and very accomodating. The food selection was excellent and the food was prepare very well."

  • "This was my birthday dinner with my cousin and from the hostess to the waitstaff, everything was perfectly prepared, expertly presented, and scrumptiously pleasing!!!! The Angry Calamari could be a tad angrier (lol) but all in all a wonderfully delightful experience. Will be back next week!!! ;)"

  • "Granted I came here for Restaurant Week, so take from this what you will. I'm pretty sure our waiter was new, because he would nod and have us to continue giving him our order, but then he came back and asked us what we ordered. There were bread boys, but we never got bread. Our meal was alright - I ordered a steak frites but it was dry, too chewy, and had no flavor. We also ordered a side of creamed spinach but we never got it. We ended up having to cancel it because we just thought it was coming out late, so we were almost done with our meal by then. I probably wouldn't come here again."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant mid/UES for a late dinner after seeing a play at 59E59 and found Fish Tail online. Walking through the bar and ground floor restaurant, I had initial concern that it would be too loud to have a conversation. Escorted to upper level dining room, we found the atmosphere relaxed, fairly quiet and very pleasant. Food was excellent and well presented."

  • ""I love the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish- one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didnt quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.""

  • "The best part of the meal were the two appetizers my frined and I shared. ried oysters and dumplings. The fish entrees were good but nothing special"

  • "The staff was pleasant. I liked our waitress a lot. Even the servers were very professional and friendly. She was friendly and explained the dishes well. I came for restaurant week and it was packed. We sat by the bar and it got very noisy. However it wasn't their fault some people can't handle their alcohol. Food was excellent. Fish was cooked so well, I like not having that fish aftertaste. I was fawning over the appetizers. Surf and turf dumplings were perfect.. The crab cake balls were delicious however it was the mango/mint sauce that made the dish. For dessert we had the cheesecake pops for two. I was so impressed with the presentation. Simply amazing presentation."

  • "Waited 20 minutes past our reservation time-no big deal, it was a Friday night. When we were taken upstairs to our table-no available table. The hostess asked us to follow her back downstairs, but then we were told a table was free, and we were seated. After a few minutes, Orlando came over to tell us that there had been a mistake, and our party of three could not remain at the table for four at which we had been seated. He apologized profusely, asked us to follow him to another table, and assured us that he would see us at our new table, and compensate us for the inconvenience. That was the last we saw of Orlando. How tacky-don't promise anything if you have no intention of following up. Also, food was terrible. Frozen, mass produced"

  • "My water glass was never less than half full. The fried oysters and short rib were amazing. The banana creme pie for dessert was as fresj as it gets with authentic dulce de leche...nothing frozen then thawed here. Its all served fresh with the most attentive staff. The even brush the crumbs off the table in between courses...and not in your lap."
