A word from Davanti Enoteca- Taylor Street
With rustic exposed brick walls, re-purposed farm wood and communal tables, Davanti Enoteca takes its cues from the small villages of Italy. Diners enjoy authentic Italian dishes they would find in the Italian countryside, but with a contemporary, creative twist. The start diners may choose from the selection of formaggi and salumi which is designed for guests to create their own boards by choosing from unique options. Instant classics include the boards that are presented to the table. The Foccacia de Recco is a flaky Ligurian style foccacia, baked and stuffed with creamy melted crescenza cheese and served with honeycomb to spread on the warm pastry. Buttery marscapone polenta is ladled on a wooden board and served with ragu of the day.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I was at Davanti Enoteca for lunch to celebrate a special occasion. The food was great, the service was great. My only problem is that we were seated at tall tables with stools. I would have asked for another spot, but it did not appear that there was another space large enough to accommodate my group of 9. While the food was great, it was VERY uncomfortable to sit on those stools in a suit and heels after a grueling morning. Additionally, even with heels I am not very tall, so my feet barely touched stool's footrest. I will definitely return because the food was that amazing, but I strongly dislike their seating arrangements. It made what was an otherwise great experience physically uncomfortable. Those tall tables are a no-go."

  • "Davanti is one of my favorite restaurants in the city for a number of reasons. The first being the food, all of the plates are reasonably priced and all of them are delicious. We tried the pork belly for the first time on this trip and it was very well prepared. Another reason I love Davanti is the service, we have had great service almost every time we have been and Saturday night was no exception. You can't go wrong with Davanti, but if you want to go make a reservation since they take them now, we saw a number of groups with no reservations turned away."

  • "This awesome menu was the closest thing we've had to true italian food since we were in rome. The rigatoni was fantastic and the desserts are a must!"

  • "I am the type of person that normally sits down and looks at the dessert menu first because I am such a sweet tooth. But this is the one restaurant where the food is so delicious that by the time I'm done I can't even save room for dessert. Coming from me, that is the biggest compliment a restaurant can get. For me, not having dessert is almost unheard of, but after eating bite after bite of amazing food, I couldn't even phathom it. Great place for a date night, or to go with a small group of people so you can try more of what the menu has to offer as it is small plate style. A place you definitely need to visit."

  • "Great service. Lively atmosphere. Thought it might be a little to intimate for a business meeting but turned out fine. Casual atmosphere actually aided conversation."

  • "I love this location best of all the Davanti's. It is intimate and the food is a notch above River North which tends to be a bit too touristy for me. The wait staff at this location also takes extra care to explain the wine list and menu."

  • "Had a first date at Davanti Enoteca. It was the perfect setting for and first date. Food was great and the wine was excellent."

  • "We had a great meal although I noticed we were the oldest 4 people in the restaurant by about 30 years. They feature small plates and we shares bruschetta, beet salad, fish with brussel sprouts, polenta with meatballs and a pizza. Everything was great and the food came out spaced so we had time to enjoy each dish. Very attentive service. A lot of fun."

  • "Although we had a reservation for lunch, we were met with glares from across the restaurant from staff as we stood at the hostess stand waiting for quite awhile to be greeted and seated. Our wait staff was ok but not overly friendly. I felt as though we were an inconvenience to the restaurant, not welcome guests. I was unaware when I made the reservation that they would be serving brunch and not lunch so we were disappointed with the menu. Our food took a long time to arrive and no one asked how we liked our food once we did get it. We enjoyed our dining experience at the downtown location and were excited to share the experience with our children at the Taylor Street restaurant, unfortunately we were very disappointed!"

  • "Our meal was very good overall, a toss up between 4 and 5 stars. The escarole salad had many tidbits as part of the mix. The cabernet wine by the glass was fruity and velvety with some depth. The burger was juicy with many shoestring fries. The pork tenderloin seemed more like shank off the bone. Tender from long term cooking not from being the most tender part of the pig. Ve The best dish was a whole yellow (probably yellowtail) snapper. The fish was carefully prepared with a salt crust yet not too salty. The snapper was tender yet firm and nicely seasoned. We ate every bit of it. The desserts included a flight of ice cream ( pistachio and chocolate) and sorbet with the blood orange sorbet having the most intense flavor, a real winner."

  • "Great waiter who took the ball and ran with our group of low carb, nut allergies, teens and adults. It all worked with a constant flow of different foods and tastes to satisfy everyone. Grazie!"

  • "While Davanti Enoteca does several dishes very well, they don't command the price point at which their offered. Furthermore, their wine prices are outrageous for the quality of wine being offered. Once was enough for us. We won't be back."

  • "The food is awesome as well as the ambiance. This time around, service was ok. She forgot to bring a second glass of wine that was ordered. But overall great experience. Will return"

  • "Turns out that Davanti is a fabulous spot for brunch. It has a far more creative brunch menu than most places in town and that makes it fun as well as delicious. We loved the unusual bruschetta with roasted cauliflower atop an agrodolce tomato sauce; even a noncauliflower eater thoroughly enjoyed it. The poached eggs with sauteed fingerling potatoes, red peppers, and onions topped with hollandaise and accompanied by avocado was delicious and a good dish for sharing. Davanti's ricotta gnudi paired with pork belly, sauteed onions, and a fried egg were tasty but the dish was somewhat bland: next time we will have the truffle egg toast and the polenta with a ragu. The French toast is disappointing; try their lemon pancakes. And go for pizza!"

  • "Great food! Had a birthday dinner for a friend and had a party of six our experience was great aside from their disorganization at the front of house. Our reservation was at 9:30 and we didn't get sat until 10:15. However once we were sat we had a lovely time! Food was perfect!"

  • "First time visiting this restaurant. I must say that our server Ron was great. We hate going to restaurants were the staff is always there, I mean bugging us. Ron was there, but in the background. It's like he knew when we needed something or just checking in. His service made the trip enjoyable. The food, no complaints at all. We had chicken, hangar steak, and an assortment of side dishes. I can always find something wrong at a restaurant, this place, nope. Keep up the great service and tastes, We Will Be Back! Thank You."

  • "Most of the food was very good...just be aware that they go heavy on the salt. People at my table were unable to eat the heavily salted french fries and the bread for their delicious spreads is also very salty."

  • "Terrific food Great service. The pizza is to die for, like being in Italy. The gnocchi was outstanding. It was luscious and obviously home made. You could see the pasta hanging to dry behind the cook. The wine list was good. With a week in Chicago, this was our best meal. It beat out meals that cost three times as much."

  • "Went on the Saturday after Valentines Day and had the brunch menu. My wife and I loved the 'Mascarpone Polenta & Ragù Of The Day' and the 'Uovo Barzotto pork belly and potato hash & poached eggs avocado & hollandaise'. Our server was very friendly and helped us with the menu as it was our first time. We will have to come back to try dinner next time."

  • "A friend introduced me to Davanti and it has become a neighborhood favorite. You have to get the Ragu of the Day with polenta. It always changes, but its always amazing. Great pizzas. Authentic Italian. Great service. Sunday brunch is awesome with a make your own bloody mary bar!!! Most recently, Ron was our server and he could not have been better!"

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday, and the waiter was so nice. My husband did NOT want any attention, but the waiter brought out a lava cake with one candle on the down low. So sweet, and we had a great time with great food."

  • "I had been once for lunch with a friend who is a regular, and came for dinner with my boyfriend. Joe, the owner, went to extra lengths to make our experience special, but even without his attention, it would have been a fantastic meal -- he just made it even better. The focaccia is not to be missed, and I was glad our waitress steered us to the cacio e pepe. The mascarpone polenta and ragu was good each time I have had it (lunch, too) and my only disappointment is that I will not be in Chicago long enough to return. Next trip they will not be able to get rid of me! Oh, and the dessert was perfect, too. No kidding - A+++ all around."

  • "Was not aware that it was an italian tapia restaurant but the food was very good and enjoyed by all. Service was very good, seemed like the server was always at our table. Would definitely recommend it as a place to try. Lucky we had reservations as the place was packed."

  • "Had our favorite server again. He really makes the experience pleasant. Had our usual Pizza D.O.C. with sausage. Got our standard focaccia di Recco, extra honey, of course! Then added a new one to the mix, had for the second time, Cacio e Pepe. The flavor is unlike any other. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We loved the food, imaginative and tasty. We had a great salad, escarole and veggies, a tasty pizza with great crust and an outstanding skate dish with brussel sprouts. I would order this again. The wine was also good and priced fairly."

  • "The food at Davanti Enoteca cannot be beat. There is a HUGE menu to choose from with options for every kind of eater. I had an absolutely wonderful time eating here, made better by impeccable service from Ron. Don't miss out on eating here!"

  • "The food is the draw. Really fantastic dishes of a few types can be shared by the whole table, or you can get bigger plates if you prefer not to share. The polenta and ragu are a MUST. They were out of the burata the night we were there, but I found other new favorites. Don't miss the pork gnuti. Be warned that the burger is outrageous and not something you could eat by yourself (says the 6' - 220lb man)."

  • "The food and drinks were exceptional. I had a seared octopus over potatoes and the eel and crab linguine. The octopus was out of this world, the outside was crispy but the inside was like butter. I've had raw octopus before so I was expecting it to be a little rubbery but to my surprise, it had the most amazing flavor and texture, better than any raw octopus. The linguine was quite fishy smelling and tasting, I was not expecting that from the crab/eel but good none the less. Service started off a little slow, my girlfriend and I were seated an the waiter did not return for 10 minutes to take our drink order. I'll chalk that up to being new years eve and pretty busy. Service was pretty smooth after that."

  • "Food was unique and delicious. We were first introduced to this restaurant by good friends. They ordered all their favorites and we enjoyed everything they ordered. We recently returned, but with our teenage kids. They are "foodie" kids and loved everything we ordered. We especially loved the cows milk focaccia with honey, the ragu and the egg toast truffle. The portion sizes are perfect for sharing but not too big - so you have room to try many dishes. Fun atmosphere and the service was perfect."

  • "I first ate here on a sunny afternoon for lunch. NYE was a very different but also enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was warm and festive. The food and wine were wonderful. The snowstorm made us about 20 minutes late, but the staff was understanding and flexible. Everyone was cheerful and friendly, and the service was great. The only problem was that we sat at a little table that seemed to have been squeezed in for the night's larger-than-normal crowd. It was noisy and a little chilly for some reason. This is clearly a very well-run restaurant."
