A word from Davanti Enoteca - River North
A member of the Francesca's Restaurant Group; Davanti Enoteca is a wine bar that offers shareable plates of rustic Italian cuisine.

After opening the first location in 2010 in Chicago’s Little Italy neighborhood, Davanti Enoteca has expanded with restaurants in Del Mar, San Diego; Little Italy, San Diego; Western Springs, Illinois; and now the newest addition the Courtyard Marriot River North in Chicago. Davanti Enoteca, an Italian wine bar, offers shareable plates of rustic Italian cuisine from pastas, pizzas, and entrees in addition to small plate items such as vasi (mini mason jars with Tuscan toast), antipasti, salads and tableside presentations. Exposed brick and refurbished wood create the ambiance of a countryside cottage in Italy.

In general, the food was delicious but the service was a little disappointing. The waiter brought the check without asking and didn't even offer the dessert menu first! Maybe it was a miscommunication but then we had to flag the waiter down to ask for the dessert menu. He apologized which was good but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I was really excited to try this restaurant after good reviews from friends, however it left much to be desired. The waiter was nice but not very attentive and the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere but the food and wine were sad and grossly overpriced for the output. We started with a great goat cheese and honey flat-bread of sorts ($17 for the appetizer) and that's where the rave ends. The Malbec was poor, especially at $12 a glass (and I happily drink 2 buck chuck on a regular basis). The pasta was gross and the pizza was average. Needless to say, I will not be going here again. Go to RPM Italian down the street or Quartino up on state instead.

A first rate Italian restaurant in a chain hotel. The menu has a mix of items from around Italy - not the usual spaghetti with meatballs etc., Everything is carefully designed to balance flavors and textures and with several creative items (spaghetti with uni and crab - excellent). The cooking staff appears to actually taste while they cook and everyone on the floor was knowledgeable and helpful. We will be back.

Stopped by for a business dinner. Great Italian food along with a wonderful wine selection. The appetizers were overwhelming and we could have stopped there but we had to try the homemade ravioli and gnocchi. The wait staff could not have been more attentive but never intrusive.

The food exceeded expectations, although we were put off by the DONUT SHOP at the entrance. This restaurant is much over-rated on Zagat's and we aren't sure why. Maybe because of sheer volume of people who go to their various locations. Overall food was decent, service fair, and they were one of few places open in this area after 9:30pm. Pizza was genuinely good. This place has a bit of a corporate/franchise vibe, but if you need a later dinner we recommend it.

I have been a regular to Davanti Enoteca since it opened in River North and frequent it at least one a month. The management, wait- and kitchen-staff have not only met but most often exceeded my expectations for good quality and well prepared food and service. They go the extra mile to meet my dietary meeds and most often are agreeable to the substitutions or threat modifications to my entrees. The special "Zuppe di Mare" was wonderful and they should make it a standard menu item.

Found this gem while staying at a downtown hotel. Enjoyed a glass from their extensive wine list, along with a selection of cheeses and cold meats. Service was very helpful and pleasant. Also had the hummus in a little jar with wonderful Tuscan toast. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

We were there last Saturday for dinner and we're not very impressed. Service was rather slow even though restaurant was not very busy. We watched our food get delivered to the wrong table (and the patrons kept it to eat) but the server did not apologize after he saw what happened and acted like nothing happened. So we had to wait another 15 for a simple order of barrata. The rest of the food came rather slowly, and was just average. The recommended dessert (caramel almond cake) had the bottom crust burnt. I think that because it's part of the hotel they don't care about service and appropriate pricing because they have a captive clientele which is a shame.

Went here with a group of seven. All of us from different locations, coming together to catch up. The food was delicious, the atmosphere is nice, but the restaurant is really loud. It made it nearly impossible to hear the person across the table. Not a great place for conversation. Having said that, I would go back for the food. Our server was also really nice and attentive and had great recommendations for shared plates.

  • Not as Good as the One on Taylor

I was really disappointed. I brought an out of town friend to this location based on my experiences with the restaurant on Taylor and regret it. The Taylor kale salad is consistently light, fresh, flavorful, and all round delicious. The kale salad in River North was at first way too salty (and I like salt) and overly oily and soaked in dressing (read: soggy). The server offered to make us another one, which was kind and we accepted. The second salad was less salty, but no less soggy and heavy. The truffle mushroom pizza was also soggier than the venue on Taylor and our pasta was undercooked (not al dente). The ambiance feels more intimate and upscale on Taylor, a bit more like a generic family restaurant in River North. Bummer.

The focaccia board pretty much caused my brain to explode with it's amazing deliciousness! Also, truffle egg toast. Everything we had we perfect and delicious, but the focaccia and the truffle egg toast were defining food moments for me. The service was great. The ambiance was lovely. I was there with a small group and we enjoyed the small plates format. We ended up ordering 6 dishes for 4 women because there were so many things we wanted to try and I would say 6 was one dish more than we really needed.

This is my 3rd visit to Davanti Enoteca (first 2 on Taylor St) so was very pleased that the Hubbard St location was just as good. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff from the minute we walked through the doors. Food and wine, great as always. Favorites were the Foccacia, unlike any you get anywhere else. More of a flat bread with a special surprise inside. And the polenta + pork should ragout was phenomenal. Everything is sharable so it is a treat to have some may tastes of wonderfully made Italian food!

Had a selection of cold cuts and cheese (prosciutto, cured pork shoulder, and robiola tre latte) which were good and the Riccio di mare e granchio linguine (crab, sea urchin, lobster sauce) which was a fair portion and very tasty. For dessert had the torts di arachidi banane (banana cake, peanut butter mousse, candied peanuts, and creamy ganache). Service was very good.

Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful guiding us to some very nice dishes on the menu. Our group of 7 included two children and there was plenty for them to enjoy as well. A high-energy place with helpful, courteous servers and a fun menu.

The food was delicious but we waited 20 minutes even with a reservation before asking to be seated at a high top table. The bartender was our server and she was nice but I don't understand allowing for reservations if you don't have a table available. I'm not sure how long the wait would've been had we waited for our original table. They should have offered us a drink or taken something off the bill.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. Conveniently located, great food and consistent just like its' original location in Little Italy...However, the pasta entrees could use some improvement. The Vassi is still incredible, highly recommend the ricotta and honey, by far my favorite! The service is always outstanding. Host/Hostess could use work though.

Great place for brunch!! There are a couple of breakfast places in River North that can get out of control busy on the weekends. Davanti should be one of them with how amazing the food is and the cozy atmosphere! But it was no wait for me and my husband @ 10 am. Such great service! Such great yummy food! And it's attached to Glazed donuts. Lots of people coming in and out of there. And for a really good reason! The donuts are incredible!!! Must order the trio! And good luck choosing just three! They all looked so tempting! I had Uovo Milano (their version of a Benedict) and it was soooo delicious! I will be craving every morsel of food from there until we go back. Which I hope is very soon! A must try for breakfast in River North!

A wonderful dinner! Started with the signature Focaccia di Recco--thin and light. The honeycomb is an added treat. Next, the Truffle Egg Toast, covered with fontina, two eggs, truffle oil and slices of asparagus for a creative blend of flavors. Followed by the Orecchietti--pasta was firm & tasty--spicy, but not overpowering. The polenta/ragu was delicious. The Biondo Torta featured maple gelato on a warm brown butter blondie drizzled with caramel & almonds, so good! We love that you can order as you go. We kept the menus at the table & ordered the next course as we went along. The wine list has nice variety--5 oz. or 8 oz. pours by the glass is a nice option. They also had Vermentino by the glass, a nice surprise. We will be back!
