A word from Daugherty's American Kitchen & Drink
Brad Daugherty grew up in Black Mountain, North Carolina, just minutes from Asheville. After an All-American career playing basketball at The University of North Carolina, he was the first overall draft pick in the 1986 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He went on to a successful 8 year NBA career followed by becoming a Nascar Sprint Cup Series car owner of the #47 car. He commentates Nascar and NBA basketball on ESPN and admittedly loves to eat!

Brad's affinity for his home of Western North Carolina and the Asheville community made South Asheville a logical place for his own restaurant. He sought to create flavorful and well thought out food in a relaxed upscale atmosphere.

When it comes to food, enjoy regional and local cuisine borne from Brad's upbringing in Western North Carolina, fused with his experiences dining around the nation as a professional basketball player, Nascar team owner and sports commentator.

Visited while in Asheville on a trip to Biltmore. Went based on review from TripAdvisor. I personally wouldn't return. I didnt feel the value for the price vs. the food was worth a return visit. 5 star dining price however the menu was limited, serving sizes were poor and the overall food wasn't 5 star standard by any means. The service was very good and the food was ok but several things seemed straight from the can like the corn and beans with the 30.00 ribeye and the two pieces of asparagus with the filet were limp and wilty. Just not a 120.00 meal anywhere.

We were in Asheville for a conference and looking for a great place to eat (which Asheville is full of). We settled on Daugherty's over many other places. We were very disappointed that we did. Everything about this restaurant was just mediocre. We will definitely not be returning on our next trip. Too many other great places to try instead.

My family and I brought a special guest for brunch. The service was casual and professional. The restaurant was spotless. The food was absolutely tremendous. From the pancakes to the breakfast burrito to the biscuits and gravy and the stuffed French toast everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful. We will definitely come back and the sooner the better.

The staff was very attentive. Made a reservation and our party of four was seated immediately. Our waiter was excellent and everyone that we encountered was friendly and helpful. We were there on a Saturday night. We all ordered sandwiches and salads. The food was very good, the presentation was very nice. We will go back again in the near future. Really liked the atmosphere. It was busy yet felt very comfortable. Recommend it!

The menu was varied with some wonderful sounding dishes. I had the Kickin' Shrimp appetizer (very good, nice portion) and the BBQ Pork Burrito which was average. My wife got the Coffee Marinated Ribeye, which came with the Sweet Potato Bake. She was not happy with the steak, quite a bit of gristle. My brother had the Ahi Tuna small plate and our Mom had the Petit Filet Mignon, which they liked. If your hungry, don't order the small plates, because they are, as well as expensive! The three of them had desserts, which they enjoyed. Overall, on the pricey side, smallish beer selection for Asheville, good server, a bit noisy and a notch above average food. I might give it another try for lunch sometime.

He was great with suggestions and pairings. Perfect atmosphere if you are looking for upscale casual, friendly staff and a great meal. Looking forward to next visit.

I have eaten here a couple of times and the food is not what it was when it first opened. I enjoyed it before but the food this time was just not as good. I ordered the blackened shrimp and it was not cooked through. I ate it anyhow since I was with a big group. Also I use to love to get the lettuce wraps but all of sudden they added pork to it, why??? It was a nice meal for someone like me.

A true and unexpected disappointment. My order was wrong, having ordered something yet received the larger portion at almost double the charge (which the manager adjusted); likely the server "presumed" what I wanted to drive up the bill. Having never eaten here since Frankie Bones left, we were going small to try it out, but that was our choice not mentioned to them, yet they delivered. The portions were grossly undersized. The "side" of asparagus appeared as more of a garnish, rather than a side, and the potatoes were around two bites. Delivery took too long, and came out cold, which was easy to do as the dining room was frigid. Returning? Really?! Honestly, could not wait to get home - to get something to eat!

The food was amazing and unique, but very pricy for the amount of food you get. You get a very small portion for about 12-15 dollars. The service was great and their selection of drinks was pretty good. It's definitely a once a year type of place, unless you have the money to go there all the time.

Had a fantastic meal in the bar area. Travis provided oustanding service. The presentation of the food was beautiful. Started with the Deviled Egg Salad Bruchetta - who knew egg salad could taste so good. The grilled pork tenderloin was the best pork I've eaten......I'm from Iowa and I know good pork! My husband's hamburger served on a croissant bun was perfection. We ordered the Dark Rum Cheesecake to go. Words cannot describe how delicious it was.....not too sweet and heavy like some cheesecakes. Daugherty's is a winner and we can't wait to go back!

Second time and second chance for this place, still dissapointed overall and will probably not return. Whilst the service was good and the place is generally nice, the menu is stragely limited, we had a group of seven this time and many of us found it difficult to decide what to eat. of the meals that arrived, there were four meals that led to disatisfaction, one rare steak that should have been well done, although they did fix that quickly, one flounder that was overbreaded and with sides that were only warm, and two chicken wraps that had an odd taste.

This was our second and probably last visit to this new restaurant in South Asheville. On both occasions I have had an Ahi Tuna dish that was excellent. My wife however has been less than happy with her meals. On the first occasion she had crabcakes which the server had said were pan sauteed and all lump crab meat. They were in fact deep fried which if she had known beforehand she would not of ordered. On this occasion she ordered a southern standard, Shrimp & Grits, which upon serving looked pretty gross. The dish was topped with some kind of spicy vegetable mixture of chopped vegetables. The shrimp were okay but the grits were not like any grits we have ever seen. They were more like mushy corn bread and had almost no taste.

I've been here a few times now, and love it. The food that we've ordered has been spectacular. So creative, fresh and TASTY. The prices are very reasonable. I took my dad there twice and he is officially addicted to the fried chicken dish. Personally, my favorite has been the tuna with the fried oysters on top - I've never had anything like it. Fantastic beer list and there are TVs to catch some quick sports or just provide a nice background to a casual dinner. Enjoy the place, I highly recommend it!

We took friends to Daugherty's for their anniversary. The atmosphere is uncluttered and conversation was easy. The menu is simple and offers small portions and GS choices. The prices are so-so. Our waiter was apparently new to waiting and did not know how much he contributes to marketing and customer satisfaction. He was friendly, but he was very busy. We are senior adults and ordered from the small portion menu, but when the food arrived we had to order sides because the portions were really, really small and no sides--just small portions of the entree. The cost $90.00. We will not go back to Brad's. It is clean. It is quiet enough to converse. There is no need for take-home containers. Experienced wait staff did not serve us.

The Biltmore estate Russin river valley Pinot noir at $38 was a great value. Apps were good. Daugherty's is a successor to another locally oriented restaurant and based on our first visit is a considerable improvement. The menu is somewhat limited especially for seafood but our experience was good for the items we ordered. I had an Ahi tuna dish that was very creatively done and well prepared. The tuna was of a good quality and very tasty. My wife had crab-cakes that were supposed to be pan seared but were in fact deep fried but were nicely done and tasty.
