Diner Reviews
  • "Siempre que visito Washington , vengo a comer aquí. Muy recomendable!"

  • "The food and service was really great. First time experience eating Ethiopian food. No utensils needed; only bread and very colorful and tasteful food. My daughter and I really enjoyed the experience."

  • "This place was recommended by a couple friends. I was not let down. The food was great and service was very good."

  • "My first outing with Ethiopian food! Pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the food. The waitress was very nice and helpful guiding us through the menu as we had no clue! The only downside for me was the injera. This is a form of bread that is used as the method in which to eat the food. Kind of spongy and served cold. Being from California I am more comfortable with warm bread or tortillas for this type of eating. However, my overall impression was very positive and I will defiantly go back. Met the owner who was very easy to talk with and friendly"

  • "Nice location on the edge of Georgetown. Food was delicious. Fun to eat traditional style with no utensils although they will provide forks upon request. Tables are a little small. They get very busy so reservations are suggested. As will all of Georgetown parking is very limited."

  • "the place is small and it was packed the day we went there so we had to wait another 20-30 minutes even if we had a reservation. Since place is small, it was moderately noisy with the customers chatting around."

  • "I suspect patrons of DAS are more cows the night I was there than the actual country of Ethiopia..."

  • "The maitre d /owner? informed us about the food in a very helpful way and we took his recommendations. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The waitresses were very beautiful Ethiopians."

  • "Das had excellent service, delicious food, and a very nice dining environment. The ambiance was refined, juxtaposed against the hands-on method of eating Ethiopian food. Our waitress was very helpful in suggesting beverages and dishes. Overall, a very good restaurant. The price is high for Ethiopian cuisine, but not so for the dining environment and location in Georgetown."

  • "We've eaten at our share of Ethiopian places, but DAS was incredible. Food was delicious, and the dining room was elegant and clean. To top it off, the staff was delightful, friendly, and attentive. Highest marks all around!"

  • "A rare find in Washington - a lovely quiet dining room, with consistently pleasant service. The food is always excellent. The vegetarian sampler with either beef dibs or beef strips is a good place to start."

  • "A must dining for out of town visitors with a worldly palate."

  • "Enjoyed it. Reasonable prices and interesting food well prepared. Took the whole family and they all enjoyed it. A vegetarian's dream as well."

  • "While Das is (used to be?) a favourite when it comes to food, I was kept waiting with my guests (3 of them) for 20 minutes in spite of having a reservation. Very disappointing experience, and I was deeply embarrassed to keep my guests waiting for so long. What good was the reservation!"

  • "This was my 2nd trip to Das. (first when it was Zed's) and I had forgotten just how wonderful this quaint place is. Gracious, sincere, attentive and warm service. The food is spectacular. A friend and I shared the vegetable and meat sampler platter, which was ample. We had the tomatoes too. Enjara was warm and fresh and more arrived just before needed. I love this place. If only it weren't in difficult to get to Georgetown. This place is fantastic!"

  • "So far, I've only found really authentic Ethiopian at Lalibela on Pst. I've tried so many after that but the food never seems to live up to the standards. Although, Das does beat Lali bela at everything else in terms of service, ambiance, noise level etc. Good food overall."

  • "We ordered two samples dishes plus a beer per person and paid $41 each. The food is not elaborated and consists of basic meat and vegetables. Moreover, although we were a group of seven, they applied a 20% service fee. In summary, too expensive for what you eat and the service you receive."

  • "Went to Das Ethiopian and had a wonderful experience. Spoiler Alert - no utensils - which is how most people eat in Africa. So one has to be willing to use their hands and the little rolled up pieces of dough they give you to grab the food. The food is great and go with several people so you can order multiple dishes and share them all when presented on one big round piece of dough"

  • "This place was exactly what we were looking for. Tasty food at a very reasonable price. Service was polite, timely, and minimal. And the manager followed up with a sincere visit--he asked how everything was, smiled, thanked us and was on his way. Everything was great!"

  • "The restaurant is on a corner lot, in a restored townhouse. The dining room is spacious and has a nice ambiance. Service was extremely friendly, respectful, and prompt. I am not familiar with Ethiopian cuisine but the food was really good - flavorful with a nice amount of heat."

  • "I had never had Ethiopian before but this place blew me away! The ambiance is somewhat romantic and elegant (although we were there on Valentine's Day!) - The service was fantastic and the food was incredible. You eat everything with your hands! Definitely a full dining experience that I have already told a few friends about :)"

  • "I have eaten here a number of times over during the past 10 years, and the food is always good, the staff pleasant, and the vibe is enjoyable. This time it was for Valentine's Day, and although we didn't have the special menu, it was a great dinner. If you like Ethiopian food and you haven't been here, you definitely need to try it. They have a reasonable wine menu too."

  • "I've had good experiences every time I've been here. I've been to a couple of places in the DC area with Ethiopian food that I've really enjoyed, and this is one of them. The atmosphere is a lot nicer than some of the other places, as well."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. The food was affordable, and delicious. The setting was so romantic, and everything was perfectly set and organized. Each table had its own vase with a flower, and the light was dim and just so elegant. What I like most about the restaurant was the service. Everyone treated my like if I were royalty. The server was so accommodating and lovely. She was also very smart- we had a nice chat about her native Africa. I would be crazy not to come back. Thank you, Das, for making me have one of the best nights I've had in DC."

  • "We were meeting a family member we see rarely. The quiet atmosphere made conversation easy. It was a slow night and we were able to sit for 3 hours with no pressure to leave. The food was delicious."

  • "Really liked the feel of this restaurant and the decor, Staff very friendly, Food was excellent, though there was a lot of it! We ended up taking a doggy bag home!"

  • "Found this actually for lunch a couple of years ago and it is absolutely amazing. The food is excellent, as long as you like ethiopian (it has a pretty tradtional menu). But all of it is top notch."

  • "I found this restaurant at the edge of Georgetown, Washington, DC. Couldn't thing of a better way to come in from the freezing winter January night. I ordered a selection of recommendations my waitress recommended. I was half way through the delicious salad before it occurred to me to ask precisely what I was eating. The variety of flavours were well matched running from mild to rather spicy chicken and beef. If you don't mind eating with injera (a soft light bread) instead of fork and knife you're in for a real treat. Service was wonderful and the ambiance, nice, quiet and a welcome alternative to the overwhelming sound system of far too many restaurants."

  • "The food and service were really great - even my teenage daughter liked it!"

  • "Great food and service at the table. The host made a questionable decision to seat non reservation holders prior to those with, which ment an awkward waiting period in the doorway. Restaurant is small so reservations should be made for weekends or other busy occasions."

  • "I have been going back to DAS, formerly with a different name for years. The food is incredibly good and the services is very nice."

  • "We celebrated my birthday here and we had a wonderful Sunday Lunch. My wife and I are just starting a vegetarian diet and they had a great dish with all of their vegetarian options on it. The others in our group were able to get meat and chicken or fish dishes, so it worked out very nicely. The cinnamon tea and injera flat bread made it a unique and fun meal. We will definitely be back."

  • "We arrived early but they honored our reservation and seated us almost immediately. Our 11 yr old was uncertain about trying the unusual food. The owner came & spoke to us and suggested the rice for her. It was delicious & she loved it. We were not charged extra for it; nor were we charged for the appetizer that was mistakenly given to us. The food was delicious and the service outstanding and personal."

  • "This was a totally new cuisine for us, and we just loved it. Be prepared to use your fingers to eat. No cutlery here. Very strong and great flavors"

  • "Had a wonderful dining experience . The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. The location was great though parking was challenging. I would definitely go again!"

  • "This was our second time there. The food was better this time. The waitress prepared an ensemble of dishes to meet both vegetarian and non-vegetarian person in our party. It was excellent and indeed more than we could finish."

  • "But I guess I did not loved Ethiopian food... I did not like to have everything with bread. It may sound provincial, but I should have asked for a knife and a fork, I would have liked it better. It was not because of eating with my hands, it was that I do not like bread every time... R"
