Diner Reviews
  • "I came here for Easter brunch with my family from out of town. The food and service were good. The donut holes were amazing. I would have liked to see a few more vegetarian options, but I got the French toast which was delicious. I would note though that the portions were kind of small for the cost of the food."

  • "We sat outside and it's a nice place to enjoy the weather and watch the city go by. Food was middle of the road. Upstairs inside has very nice, historic feel to it, but we did not sit up there."

  • "Nice elegant but comfortable dining room in an old townhouse with good natural light. Its not gourmet, but the food is good, as is the wine list and its well priced. Service is excellent, especially the attention we received from the manager, Ernesto who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. But the best reason to make this a regular business lunch or dinner spot is that you can actually hold a conversation. Its not a stuffy or overly formal atmosphere but it just doesn't get that loud in there. Although this is my first review, I've been many times and its always a good atmposphere. Tables are well spaced and they don't mind if you linger for a while after finishing your meal to complete your business discussions."

  • "Came here for brunch. It was sunny outside but not that hot. The inside of the restaurant was maybe 60 degrees since the front door was open and the heat wasn't on. Way too cold inside to enjoy our meal. Donut holes and dipping sauces were bland. Cheeseburger with the fried egg was delicious. The bartender serving us was friendly and attentive even though he was also serving the patio tables. Overall a decent experience but nothing to write home about."

  • "Loved the butternut squash ravioli. Husband loved the special. The bomboloni dessert was a great treat, We had a nice table by the window. A great find. Would definitely go there again."

  • "I made a reservation through OpenTable for brunch here at 11:45 on a Sunday. There were 3 of us. We were seated immediately and ordered shortly thereafter at about 12:05. Our waiter did not come to check on us unless we flagged him down to ask him where our food was. Nobody refilled our drinks unless we could get their attention and ask for them. We asked about our food FOUR TIMES...every time we were told it was coming right out. One guy who seemed to be acting as the manager even came to us and told us our food was actively being plated...which was a lie, as our food still never came. At 1:15 we finally gave up and left some money for the cold coffee and soda we had. As we left, nobody even apologized. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE"

  • "Stumbled across this small beautiful gem for the first time. The food and service was impeccable. We didn't want to hold up the dinner service so we were escorted downstairs to the Cantina pub for more drinks. A spacious long bar with many table tops and delicious drinks. Behind the bar was a gentleman, Alex, who served us throughout the night was very kind. If I'm in the area and in the mood for happy hour and drinks I will definitely go back."

  • "I came with a large group on a Saturday night. We sat downstairs in the pub area where we could order from both the upstairs and downstairs menus. We enjoyed delicious food, wine, and a fun atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Darlington House. A tip - if you're really hungry, I would recommend considering the pub menu which had lower prices but bigger portions."

  • "My husband and I were highly pleased with our Italian dining experience at Darlington House. Beautifully restored historic home in vibrant Dupont Circle with light rain on the windows and damp air outside, set a lovely mood for the delicious meal. Usually appetizers outshine entrees in taste and flavor, but here, they both held their ground. The charcuterie platter and calamari were excellent and the osso bucco and veal were equally memorable. We were also impressed by the extensive list of pastas handmade on site and our al dente dish was exceptional. We enthusiastically recommend this place!"

  • "I visited Darlington two years ago for my birthday with group of girlfriend's for brunch and everyone loved their food. I went for dinner with a friend around 5 for dinner and they could not find our reservation, but seated us promptly. I enjoyed their bread with the olive oil and balsamic dressing and caprese salad that we shared. She had the salmon which she ate every bite of and I ordered the pasta with salmon and vegetables. My dish was nothing special but it was good. I would definitely return to this restaurant, my only issue is the parking. Its best to metro or leave time to find parking because it can be difficult being in the center of Dupont."

  • "One of the best Italian restaurants in DC. One of my fav. Took a guest there last evening and as always, outstanding service from the moment you walk in. Salads and a mixed pasta was our meal with some excellent vino."

  • "I made a reservation for my husbands birthday and requested a seat by the window. While I understand there is only one seat by the window and chances were slim, they didn't even seat us in the main dining room. We were in a seat by the bar next to a wedding party. When I asked (demanded) to move the hostess understood and felt bad, however the waiter was clearly annoyed. . For the entire dinner, he was curt and rude, he didn't tell us the specials until we asked, never smiled once at us and were just trying to feed us and get us out. It was hard not to miss how rude he was to us, as the table next to us, he smiled, laughed and kept telling them to take their time. While the food was great, I will never go back because of HIS poor service."

  • "They accommodated our party of 15 very well. We were seated in the main area upstairs next to the window. The window was adding a lot of natural light in. We were all there for brunch and everyone enjoyed their meals. I would go back again."

  • "We stayed in DuPont before a concert at the Verizon Center, and found Darlington House based on its reviews and proximity to the Metro. Our friends were running late and a quick call to delay our reservation 30 minutes was accommodated with no stress. The dining room was cozy and allowed for easy conversation. The daily specials (carpaccio, risotto, and seafood pasta) were well-prepared and satisfying. Service was right on the mark: attentive, but not intrusive. Food came out well-timed and fresh. We'll be back!"

  • "Half of our brunch group showed up about 45 minutes late but the bar tender gave the ones waiting complementary donuts and once the rest arrived we were seated immediately without any problem. The drinks and food were delicious and it was a great atmosphere to have brunch."

  • "This was our second visit for early dinner before a Kennedy Center performance. Good location, short cab ride to and from. A totally enjoyable meal. Cocktails before dinner in the downstairs bar. Good start to an enjoyable evening. ."

  • "Went for lunch and the restaurant was pretty much deserted so service should not have been an issue, BUT...we had to ask to have our water glasses refilled and one of our two orders was incorrectly prepared. Ruined the pace of the meal and not even our coffees were comped at the end of the meal. Too many options abound to suffer bad service. This being said, I like the menu and the food typically, so maybe it was just an "off" day."

  • "I took my fiancée here for a valentines date, and the food and wine were awesome. However, we had a myriad of people come to our table, without introducing themselves and giving us the various parts of our meal. One took our drink order, one took the entree, another brought the food, etc. we felt like an after thought. I understand a busy restaurant but to make your guest not feel like a priority especially with the prices of the food is unacceptable. We didn't even stay for dessert because we knew we'd be waiting another 30 minutes like we did for someone to clear our plates. The restaurant interior was amazing and we loved the vibe, we just were incredibly let down by the service."

  • "This restaurant was just ok. Going for a holiday like Valentines Day was the worst decision. The seating is so tight that i could of ate the food from the people who where sitting next to me. No privacy, not enough space, and the food wasn't even that great. The wine was decent, but the service was horrible you could tell they were trying to get you in and out for the next reservation. I'm glad i experienced it but i won't be returning."

  • "I hadn't it really even see Darlington house when I could it on open table. The food was excellent. All four of us enjoyed all of our meal. The dessert donuts were great. Service was extremely good. Nice wine list as well."

  • "I usually come for dinner, but my first time lunch was amazing! Lunch time is very quiet, at least during the week, but I like to hear my conversations so this was a plus for me. The menu has many options from the dinner pastas and meats to Skizzas and burgers. Remberto was very helpful and welcoming to the experience. I will be coming for lunch again."

  • "I made a group reservation and was still told to wait at the bar for over 20 minutes. Then they would not transfer the tab over to the table, which caused more time loss before sitting. The food was fine, the waiter lacked knowledge and had to go ask someone else when anyone had a question. With all the nice places in DC, I would not go back."

  • "The food was delicious and the space was great. The only thing I didn't like was when the waiter asked what kind of cheese I would like on my omelette and when it came to pay i noticed that they charged me an extra $2 for cheese. I know they need to up-sell but that was a little shady."

  • "If you're in the neighborhood or looking for a venue to host a special occasion this is the place! I dined last week and had an amazing time with friends! My server Ernesto was very helpful in food and wine selections and friendly with all of my guests adding to this experience. It's a quiet restaurant which was a plus for me. We were given the best service and the food was not to complain. I am looking forward to going back."

  • "This was my first time dining here. The food was very good and the service above and beyond. When I asked my server for the name of a wine I had he not only told me it he wrote it down for me because he heard me say I wanted to buy some. That to me is over the top service!"

  • "I had never eaten at the Darlington House but had a group of 15 for my birthday and had read the reviews and they were one of the few places I could host a party at 7:30 pm on a saturday where they had a great rating. Everyone loved the food, service was great, everyone was very nice who worked at the restaurant. Back bar on the dining level was perfect for gathering while waiting on everyone to arrive. All my guests said it was a great choice."

  • "The Darlington House is great for group dining in Dupont Circle. They had no problems taking a reservation for a group of 12 in the heart of a high-volume conference location, where it was difficult getting dinner reservations for a group. Good food and wine selection. Our group was happy with the service."

  • "The food on the menu advertised for Restaurant Week was not available. My pasta was dull and tasteless. The dessert was so horrendous I had to spit it out in my napkin. My friend's entre was presented like something your mom gives you before sending you to your room; Fish and green beans on a white plate with no garnish, no enhancement, nothing. The staff was excellent. The food was worse than a Cracker Barrel outside a federal penitentiary in Arkansas."
