Diner Reviews
  • "All dishes were cooked as if blackened... Heavy seasoning and very salty. Very, very slow service. Waiter did not check in while we waited either. At end, waiter brought our correct check then charged wrong check to our credit card... Twice before getting it correct."

  • "From the moment we arrived, we felt we were imposing on their party. Unwelcoming maitre'd who seem offend to be asked for an outside table, a bartender who was doing paperwork and didn't want to be interrupted to make drinks, and waiter who made us feel our menu questions were impositions. Food was solid, but certainly not exceptional. Had hoped for a unique and special NO experience, and were very disappointed."

  • "Dante's is one of our favorite places, however Sunday was a beautiful day and they opened their patio and it was popular. The printer broke down in the kitchen, at least that was the excuse. We waited 45 minutes for bread and then another lot of bread came out almost immediately. The Shrimp and Grits- wonderful. The Gulf fish great if you like a slight blackened aspect. The roasted Brussels sprouts excellent. The food was fantastic just super super slow that night."

  • "Dante's is one of our go-to brunch places when visiting NOLA but we had never tried it for dinner until this weekend: glad we did! The house-made herbal infusions sparkled on the innovative cocktails menu. Since I'm now eating gluten-free/dairy-free, it's often a bit challenging in NOLA but Dante's menu made it easy. The Thit Kho pork belly small plate was tender and delicious and the bricked chicken was flavorful and juicy. Husband enjoyed the strawberry salad and the trio medallions. He said the molasses spoon bread (which I had to pass on due to gluten and butter) was pretty amazing. We were too full (and it had gotten late because the service was a little slow) so we didn't stay for dessert. Will definitely return."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and I must say we were not steered wrong. The food was exceptional, from the complimentary spoonbread to the cauliflower arrabiata. The only quibble my wife had was that she wanted the Brussels sprouts cooked slightly longer. They were just too hard. Her shrimp and grits and trois mignons were just delicious and perfectly cooked along with my boudin rouge and confit of pork steak. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "I took a group of 6 for dinner. Overall the meal and service was good. The cheese and Salumi boards were great, the small plates were also tasty. Our entrees were hit or miss. The Crispy Confit of Pork Shoulder was dry and had a strong spice taste that overpowered the entire dish. One of my guests ordered the Lamb Neck Pasta dish. His dish contained many bone fragments and bursa (thick cartilage) pieces. He didn't finish it out of frustration, but did say it had good flavor. The hit dishes of the night were the Brick Pressed Chicken and Fish Filet. The Chocolate Pudding Pot at the end was outstanding. With all the outstanding dinning opportunities in New Orleans, I wouldn't come back, I would go to another location."

  • "excellent food. Understated wine list. very personable service"

  • "The escargot is unbelievably good – the best anywhere. They have a great bartender who is extremely talented, and pleasant. The food is always first class, but we could use a little change in the menu (providing the escargot remains)."

  • "Menu was way too wordy...needed a thesaurus to it figure out. Had been here before for brunch and enjoyed it, but dinner was very disappointing"

  • "As always, the food was great. However, now that were are not permitted to park across the street (Dante Village? parking lot) I will be reluctant to come here when it means I am going to spend (often frustrating) time trying to find a place to park."

  • "Our favorite NOLA restaurant. We never miss eating here and we come to NO 2-3 times a year. Wonderful good!"

  • "This was my favorite restaurant 2-3 years ago but haven't been there in a few years. We tried to alter a entree on the menu in order to accommodate a child the restaurant was not flexible to our request. The food was not as good as I remembered. Shrimp and grits was too spicy Collie flower side item too spicy to eat. Whoever was in the kitchen that night way too heavy-handed on the spice rack. Remember I've eaten at this restaurant before and ordered the same items in the past except the Collie flower side dish. This is a great neighborhood gem and I hope they get back on track soon."

  • "Steak is great. Get the Brussels sprouts. The chicken under a brick is a speciality. It's awesome. Cocktails at Dante's use their own house made tinctures, and are yummy."

  • "The evening was mild and I had requested courtyard seating so was surprised that there was no outdoor seating that night. The dining experience is borderline at this restaurant but sitting in the courtyard puts in the positive category. In other words, dine in the courtyard or wait until you can."

  • "We always dine at Dant'e when we are visiting our child at Tulane or in New Orleans for any other reason, and we have never been disappointed. Great food, nice ambiance, great service, its a wonderful Locavore sort of place. infusing locally sourced food into the menu. I highly recommend it."

  • "While my friends rave about Dante's for brunch, I found it a bit disappointing for my anniversary dinner. I found the limited dinner menu a bit difficult for my husband who is not big into the more ethnic flavors and doesn't like to order special. I did enjoy that my fish was light and I did not feel overfed. However, the wine list was extremely expensive for bottles and the bar specials frankly turned my stomach a bit and I KNOW they were special infusions of potions and notions but at $9.50 to start, tequilas and juices when I want to have more than one bev, nah. It was very loud and even though I clearly put that it was our anniversary, there was no mention - which is always a test of a restaurants attention to detail."

  • "After we had the escargots with roasted bone marrow (fabulous) we barely remember the Crispy Confit Pork Steak or the half-shell redfish, both of which were excellent. Great wine by the glass selection. Service also outstanding. Pretty good cab ride from the Royal Sonesta, but well worht it."

  • "My wife and I took out my good friend to Dante's for New Year's Eve dinner. Had a reservation made for 6:45, but wife's flight into Nola was delayed, restaurant had no problem giving us a little extra time to get there. All of the food was excellent as usual, and service was fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful evening."

  • "We had a very nice time and the food was great. It is very dark and the menu is hard to read. Service was good. We thought it was a little overpriced, if you want a vegetable you have to order a la carte. On the whole it was a very nice experience and the food was delicious."

  • "Dante's Kitchen is our favorite restaurant to go to every time we visit New Orleans. We originally found it because of the reviews on Yelp, and decided to give it a try on our first trip to NOLA, when we had no clue where to go or what to do. We've been here every trip ever since. We especially love the fact that we can bring our own wine (for a $15 corkage fee) to enjoy with the meal. With an ever changing menu, it's always a new, unique experience."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in the city! The service is great, the food is fantastic and it's a great place to "disappear" to. The whole fish was great! Subtle flavors and the presentation was awesome. This was my 3rd year in a row for dinner on NYE. We'll keep going back each year to enjoy."

  • "Changed my time twice no problem. Very friendly yet laid back. Complimentary spoonbread very delish. Take classics like shrimp grits and amp it up. Red snapper on half shell super tasty. Loved our cocktails of infused fresh fruit. Definitely return."

  • "Went for my wife's birthday. We were considering Commander's or some other fancier place but opted for this more casual restaurant. We are so glad we did. The food was excellent, as good or better than much more expensive and hoity toity places. The service was wonderful. This is a gem."

  • "dined on 12/27. had escargot and bone marrow appetizer and the eggplant side dish both extremely tasty. for main we had pork confit steak with greens and trios menions. they both were beyond delicious. their bartender is great and we sampled several drinks...a pig named Madeline, Classic sazurac, house punch, underberg. all were delicious with the exception of the underberg which was like an intense Jaegermeister. for dessert we had a chocolate tort with cayenne chocolate sauce yum yum yum. would dine here again. you will spend some time here at dinner so don't plan for a quick bite then off to a show."

  • "I go to Dante's Kitchen for special occasions it used to be my favorite place. I think they have lost focus and creativity. Maybe it was a holiday fluke..."

  • "small, very causual and unpretentious... but great food. Our meal began with a homemade corn pudding (bread) brought to the table a the cast iron pan. Starters were a green salad and bbq shrimp w/grits. Salad came with shredded pickled beets and satsumas in a semi-sweet dressing. Greens were crisp and tasty. The bbq shrimp and grits had diced andouille and just enough heat. Entrees were maple brick chicken and flounder. The chicken was half a chicken served de-boned with a maple syrup glaze accompanied by sauteed sliced potatoes w/chunks of meaty bacon and a side of brussel sprouts. Chicken was tender, moist, and sweet from the maple syrup. The flounder was served whole w/chopped tomatoes and cilantro... perfectly cooked and tasty."

  • "The decor of the restaurant is schizophrenic. There's a lnice outdoor area for warm evenings, indoors there's a room that's dark and romantic. The middle of the small restaurant is an open bar with bright lights and next to that is a small open area that kind of looks like a kitchenette. That's where we sat. Despite the unattractiveness of the area the food overcame obstacles. Spoon bread is served as an amuse bouche. Each bite you eat you sigh with how good it is. The mussels were out of this world and the pasta with lamb ragu was wonderful. The menu uses fresh, local ingredients, but with twists of exotic influences from spices of Southeast Asia or Morrocco. The layers of flavors in the dishes are delicious. We'll be back!"

  • "My husband and I come to New Orleans every year, mostly for the food. We first ate at Dante's last New Year's Eve and it was spectacular....so much so that it is a permanent fixute on our list of must eats while in town. Their "chicken under a brick" is simply the best meal we have ever eaten, anywhere in the world."
    Dined on 11/24/2013
  • "We picked this restaurant because a review said there was imaginative use of vegetables. Loved the dragon beans, new to me, and my husband's vegetable plate was varied and fun. Only comment is that too many of the vegetable-centric dishes also included meat, especially pork products. Wine list is well chosen."

  • "Loved this restaurant! Have been to New Orleans many times and wanted something new. Shrimp and grits appetizer probably the best we have ever had - including many other well known restaurants in New Orleans and Charleston. Interesting menu - not the typical New Orleans fare. Only down side was the cab ride from Bourbon Street in the French Quarter was nearly $20 each way."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Dante's Kitchen on 11/15/13. We were there to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary, and this restaurant did not disappoint! I had the chicken under a brick, which was delicious. I rarely order chicken when eating out, but I was glad that I did this time. My wife had the drum, which was wonderful also. If you are looking for a nice place that is a little bit away from the hustle of the French Quarter give Dante's a try."

  • "The dishes are delicious but ample in size. I felt that the server "sold me up" a bit when he said the sides were not that large and only sufficient for one person. Other than that, it's a wonderful place."

  • "We had a great meal at Dante's on our last trip to New Orleans, so we were eager to return. Dante's delivered, with two great dishes. I had the trios mignons, which was outstanding, and my wife, who has been trying duck at many restaurants over the last couple of years, put Dante's duck in her top 3. This place is a gem in the St. Charles/Carrollton area."

  • "So when we asked about the most popular dishes on the menu, the hostess actually told us we are not supposed to sell them because thats what everyone orders. The dishes were shrimp and grits, and chicken under a brick. I did want to try them but she sold us on some other dishes mussels in sweet potato broth, pork belly lettuce wraps, and pork steak confit. The last being the most memorable one. the others not so exciting I would not reccomend this restaurant based on the food we had.. maybe if i did have my originallty planned dishes i would feel differently. maybe sometime i will give them another try."
