We visited Dante before catching a show at Playhouse Square. The have a great beer selection, including several Drafts. For appetizers, we tried the charcuterie platter. It was full of different textures and flavors, delicious! We tried the three cheese polenta and Pappardelle Bolognese for second course. They were both good, but the bolognese stole the show. I would probably get the rabbit polenta next time. The third course was a swordfish special and the free range chicken. They were both tender, perfectly prepared, and tasty! For dessert, we had the double baked brownie and the carmelized pears. The brownie was rich and good, the pears were tender and the ice cream had a strong cardamom flavor. A great night out, we will be back.

  • I was extremely disappointed
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 4/22/2010
I was extremely disappointed with my dining experience at Dante. Our first reaction was the noise. I would not describe it as "energetic", it was too loud for relaxing conversations with friends and certainly not conducive to a romantic dinner for two. We then waited 30 minutes for drink orders to be taken. And that was only after I mentioned this to the hostess. Food was average. Certainly not worth dealing with the noise and poor service. Too many good restaurants in Cleveland. Will not return to Dante, nor will I recommend it to friends.

Started with a drink at the bar. Bar tender attentive but not too friendly. Moved to a table and had a very nice dinner. Service was good, attentive but not annoyingly over the top. Asked for a few things and she (the server) was right on it. For what we had the food is fairly priced and very good. Had the Short Ribs; very good. Mostly meat which is fine but very few vegetables. A delicious parsnip puree and a few carrots could all fit on one fork. Pleasantly surprised at the 'crowd' that was there for a Tuesday. It was nice to see people out. Decor is nice with a lot of woodwork. The location is an old bank so there's a vault and a table in there. Valet parketing is $5.00 which I think is a lot for Tremont.

Great food, I will definitely return. Only negatives was that it was very noisy in and the bar staff was a bit snobby. All the wait staff I had contact with was very friendly and helpful, but I did not care for the bar staff. I live in the neighborhood but I will not be stopping in casually for just a drink.

We were exceedingly pleased with our dining experience in every respect. My husband and I both had the tasting menu, and I can highly recommend it to anyone who is going to Dante for the first time. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about both the food and the wine, was attentive but didn't hover, and we were not rushed through our meal, despite the fact that it was Saturday night and very busy. It was a very enjoyable dining experience and we look forward to returning soon.

My only complaint about this wonderful restauant was the noise level. Our server, Darlene, and general manager, Branko, made our dinner very enjoyable but we were barely able to hear each other across the table. Admittedly, we were there at prime time on a Friday night, but there seems to be nothing to absorb the din.

Overall, I had a good dining experience at Dante's. I like the setting and feel of this restaurant much better than his last gig at Lockkeepers. My buddy and I both ordered the tasting menu ($50) and there were more hits than misses--good charcuterie platter (liver mousse spread on crusty bread was the highlight); my braised rabbit polenta was great and my buddy's pasta starter was tasty; we both had the beef entree that was offered with the tasting and it was cooked perfectly, but it was not very imaginative when compared to the other dishes. Dessert was a disappointment (banana chocolate concoction) but the drinks were flowing at that point and made up for it. Service was a little spotty, but that is to be expected early on.

Great space, friendly service, nice wine list, interesting menu and good food. I had two dishes from the vegetable section that were very good and my friend had the rabbit app and the skirt steak entree which were pretty good. I had a very hard time with the noise level (not normally anything I think about). We were seated at a two-top and could barely hear each other at times without speaking very deliberately. The extremely high ceilings of the old bank building seemed to absorb all but the pulsing bass of the bluesy music coming through the sound system leaving it to drop down over the table tops. I would recommend Dante to others and I would certainly go there again. Overall a very positive experience!

Dante is located in an old bank building in the trendy Cleveland Tremont neighborhood. The ambiance are very nice and the decor is an interesting blend of old and new. Early on a Tuesday evening (5:30, the restaurant was not crowded and the noise level was low. The menu is organized in Italian tradition with antipasti, primi and secondi. The primi; soup, pasta, polenta and risotto are available in three sizes to accomodate your appetite. The potato and leek salad, more of a terrine, with ginger dressing was outstanding and very unusual. The two pastas we had, chitarra and bolognese were just a tad too al dente, but delicious. The Branzino with braised bok choy and toasted basmati rice was cooked to perfection.

I was surprised at how LOUD it was in there. Pulsing, throbbing music, not what you would expect from a pricey restaurant. We had an 8:30 reservation and were told there would be a short wait and to head to the bar. The small bar area was packed with nowhere to sit and nowhere to stand without getting in the way of servers. By the time we were able to get the bartender's attention, our table was ready. It was difficult to hear our server over the din of the music and she seemed unable to raise her volume. The menu was a bit confusing. The fennel gratin salad lacked any discernible gratin, the cheese polenta, though creamy, had a skin on top, and the risottos were just average.

I really enjoyed the 50 wines for under $50. What a great list. We had the Paul Dolan Chardonay, a steal at $25 a bottle. Our server was helpful but not overbearing. We went to Dante late in the evening on a Friday night and the restaurant was just as lively as I assume it was during dinner rush! We had to wait for our table, but the wait was relatively short considering the amount of people that were occupying the bar area. We chose to experience the best of Dante and we ordered the tasting menu. The food was STELLAR!! My guest and I were completely blown away by each course! Just when we thought that we couldn't experience anything as good as the course we were in the next course would come! One divine dish after another. The servers seemed to have a rough night, but they did not take away from the "Gold Mine" we have in Tremont! Thank you Dante and Branko for the experience and wonderful food!

Dante's food was in a word, perfect. The menu's layout is inventive and fun, and allows for tastings of many different menu items without breaking the bank or over-eating. The overall experience, however, was diminished by the noise. We were forced to shout at one another all night and it was frankly a relief to get out of there! The intimate feel of the restaurant is sabotaged by the acoustics. But, we will return for the amazing food. (I'm thinking about the lentil soup right now!) Good luck...wish you the best.

Hot new spot in Tremont. The locale is vibrant, the setting a far cry from the Dante/Lockkeepers experiment of a couple years back. Several small plate courses allow you to mix and match to create a unique meal. The polenta dishes we tried were both great, as were all three pastas and my lentil soup. The bar was packed from the time we arrived until the time we left. And they have several half bottles of wine for the couple that just wants one heavy glass apiece. My Girlfriends dietary restrictions were treated with care and thoughtfulness by the floor staff and kitchen alike. service was warm and relaxed, dinner was well paced and the food was absolutely perfect. the only glitch (a very minor one) was the delay between main course and dessert. Despite that, we had 4 courses in under 2 hours, no small feat on a saturday. I would eat at dante every day if I could! Also, the prices are very reasonable considering the portion size and food quality. This was our first trip to Dante and we would definitely return. The food was very good (not exceptional, but pretty close), and very reasonably priced. On a return trip, I would likely try the chef's tasting menu, which is a preselected five-course meal that comes with a wine pre-paired with each course. The menue is well-balanced and well thought out. The atmosphere is a sort of urban chic and fits in well with the Tremont atmosphere. Our server was exceptionally knowledgeable, both about the food and the wine. The wine list is extensive (not the longest, but plenty long enough). It is also well-organized, with the one of the most thoughtful presentations being a list of 50 bottles under $50. A true gem.
