Diner Reviews
  • "There was a special, but very limited, menu for July 3. Service was friendly, but not very attentive. We usually poured our own wine. The pork loin had a very thick layer of fat that was unappetizing. For such a highly regarded restaurant, we were very disappointed."

  • "I had never been to Dante's so I went over early to partake of the oysters at happy hour. (I highly recommend the $1 oysters!) My roommates joined me for dinner. The waiter was entertaining and efficient. The food was good. We had a great view of the city. I would recommend Dante's for dinner on a special occasion - or for oysters any night of the week."

  • "Dante has a great reputation, but our experience did not reflect that. The server forgot to bring the appetizer we ordered, and the food was just OK - not amazing. The bread was great, though."

  • "A friend and I had dinner on the patio at Dante and really enjoyed ourselves. This spot offers the "other" water view in Boston - a view of the Charles River with the sunset reflecting on the buildings of Beacon Hill and Back Bay. The food, as always, was spectacular - especially enjoyed the ravioli with shaved asparagus. We took advantage of the smaller portion option so that we could try several things. Service was not as smooth as I remembered it (informal, forgetful waiter) but it did not detract much from an enjoyable evening."

  • "Upscale presentation meets spotty service. My review is of an all you can eat pasta offering the evening before the Boston Marathon, which may not be the best time to critique...or is it? We arrived early in the evening. Not many people in the place. Yet so much time passed between chance moments with the server that our appetites were thoroughly extinguished after one delicious portion, so we were all in all disappointed."

  • "Nothing was bad, but nothing was great either. My salad was pretty good but my dad's chicken fish looked pretty small. "

  • "My friends and I came here for a birthday dinner and were excited to try this restaurant out for the first time. The food was great but the service definitely did not meet expectations. Since it was a Monday night it was not very busy so we were surprised with the hostess' attitude when we told her our party has arrived and asked if we could be seated. She responded with sigh, eye roll, and then led us through the dining area to the patio with an attitude like she had better things to do. Later we saw her laughing and horsing around with the waiters, who also seem less than enthused to be working too. Aside from the level of service, the food is great and has a nice view of the Charles. "

  • "A special Prix Fixe menu should be advertised online at the time of booking. Arrived to find that we would have to pay $50 per person and order 2 plates. And actually, this would not have bothered me if the food was outstanding, which it wasn't. It was pleasant but not worth the price. We also waited way too long for our dishes and felt rather abandoned by our server. I think this may be because we weren't drinking alcoholic beverages, which would increase our bill. I won't be going back."

  • "Dante is fabulous: food was wonderful; service outstanding; and overall experience 5 stars. Don't wait to get into its brother in Belmonnt, come to Dante."

  • "Very attractive romantic setting, beautiful view of the river, wild funghi appetizer and ravioli main dish excellent, eggplant parm appetizer good but a little disappointing"

  • "Each time I've gone to Dantes I've had a great experience but the last time I went with my boyfriend, the waitress was very spacey. She was helpful when we asked questions but after answering she would leave even though we were ready to order. The menu on the website isn't the same as their menu in the restaurant since their chef likes to change the menu based off of what is fresh in season. We were looking forward to certain meals, especially the mussels. Over all this place is great but the servers need to be all up to speed with service."

  • "We went to Dante's for Easter Brunch because of a favorable write-up in Boston magazine. Our experience was OK, but not great. Some of the food was very tasty and well done. Other food was average to disappointing. Where we were seated, we had a great view of the Charles River. But otherwise the ambiance was very average. The service was was top notch and the staff was friendly. However, with the choice of many fine restaurants in Boston, I likely will not go back to Dante's."

  • "We have dined here when we visit Cambridge. Every time has been great until this past weekend. The food was not up to par and the service was very slow. Hopefully this was just an off night. "

  • "We chose this restaurant for its excellent reputation but also for easy access on a cold day with parking just a few steps from the restaurant. Our meal was delightful. "Upscale Italian" describes this restaurant. The menu offers both small and larger portions of pasta dishes, a feature which allows one to sample more items on the menu. We had visited this restaurant years ago several times and once ate on the lovely patio with a fantastic view. Comparing the food over the years, we believe it has certainly maintained, if not improved in overall quality. "

  • "The food is quite good. Service could be a bit better. The restaurant is noisy, because sound spills over from the function rooms. For that reason, we probably won't return."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "The food was great but the service was not in that it just took forever in between courses and this was on a Sunday night at 5:30pm! Also, the parking WITH the validation was $18!!"

  • "Truly outstanding food and perfect service. The hotel setting is unusual but the restaurant itself with the nice view and wonderful food quickly makes up for that. We will definitely be back."

  • "One of the best meals I've had in Boston. Amazing service, great food and ambience. Highly recommend the espresso-tini, butternut squash ravioli and arancini with truffle honey! YUM."

  • "Decided to try something new with my friends. I rarely dined out but I was making with a new year of new experiences. My friends and I wanted to just let loose and enjoy each others company. I chose Dant e's and it's was fantastic. The atmosphere was just right. It has just the right amount light.the wine was wonderful, and the food was to die for. The service we had was great and the view over looking the Charles River was spectacular. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. We had a great time. So if your looking for a place with just the right amount of ambiance, a great wine list, and a menu to die for Dant e's is for you."

  • "This is as good as it gets! The food is wonderful - everything very carefully prepared with fresh ingredients. The pasta dishes can be ordered as appetizer size or full entrée. The hanger steak dish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Their chicken entrée was tender and flavorful. The baked clams were the best I ever had-so delicate and flavorful. Great dessert choices. All capped off with a great view of the Charles River. Can't wait to return!"

  • "First I didn't realize this restaurant was in the Hotel Sonesta which is undergoing a major renovation to lobby area and bottom floor. very off putting. Food was ok, but not special but prices were a bit high for what was given. Service was good, attentive without being intrusive and though there were a number of tables the noise level was not reasonable."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary at your restaurant. The food was great, the view was beautiful. And the waiter was so lovely, he did all his best to make us feel special and served us a complementary dessert. It was amazing!"

  • "We had a fabulous dinner. My friends were dubious because the restaurant is in a hotel. They were blown away by how great the food is. And the view is lovely."

  • "First time visit to this restaurant. Apparently just finished renovation. Served by an entertaining waiter from Italy who speaks fluent "Italian English". Modest menu for both food and wine. Chose 9 course degustation menu. Wonderful pasta and absolutely delicious fish and clams served with Italian bread. Try to get a table by the window as you can get a nice view of the Charles River. A good place to take your date to enjoy a nice evening out."

  • "The only problem with this restaurant is the design and atmosphere. It is too big, too hollow, too cold. Too bad because Dante is such a fine chef. His other restaurant in Belmont is much better"

  • "A colleague and I were having dinner at Dante, the food was exceptional as always and despite the construction that is going on in the hotel, the restaurant is not affected negatively by it. The only negative point of the evening is that our server was a bit too attentive- she was at the table every 10 minutes or so. The sever scolded my colleague when he pour more wine into our glasses, saying that she should be doing that. Honestly, while it's nice to have the service, this server needed either another table or side work to do, cause she made conversation difficult. This was the only distracting factor. The meal was perfect."

  • "A couple of friends raved about this restaurant. I finally tried it. I was disappointed. The food was quite simple and unsubtle, just like what you would get at an ordinary Italian restaurant. I think Bertucci's is better, and that's a very casual place. Being in a hotel, it has a businesslike atmosphere, which I didn't care about. The calamari appetizer was average, and the pesto pasta wasn't anything to rave about. The best part was the desserts, tiramisu, panna cotta, and chocolate cake, which were probably better than average."

  • "We had a nice Italian dinner. The pasta and meatballs are clearly home made. The service was impeccable. The flavors were good and portions were just right. We had room for dessert and tried the gelato and an apple pie. The wine was a bit pricey at $10 a glass or $40/bottle for the house white. We had a very nice time and would go back."

  • "Food was average .. nothing great. service was below average. For 6 people bill was $795.. would not recommend."

  • "We're two couples that alternate picking restaurants every 2 months. My husband wanted Italian. Was glad I chose Dante. It was a cold, stormy night, but warm and welcoming inside. We wanted a quiet place to chat, and were very happy with the noise level. We were welcomed warmly at the door. The food was tasty and tastefully presented, with vegetarian options. Mushroom/chestnut soup special was comforting and seasonally-spiced. Our party's entree choices, all good, spanned vegetarian (cauliflower ravioli), meat (pork), hake, and gnocci with shortribs. Drinks (italian 75), sangria, and martinis were all good too, as was the wine (good selection by the glass or bottle). We had a nice view of the frozen Charles River Basin. Will return!"

  • "We had a great meal here even though one of our party of six was in a rush. The waitress and chef were very accommodating. Food was fantastic. However, when ordering, the waitress was a little pushy trying to add to the bill. There is a fine line between suggesting more food and pushing to add food to the bill and we think it was crossed. Other than that snag the service was great."
