Diner Reviews
  • "The Daniel Webster is an old favorite in an historic neighborhood. Superb ambience. I can feel the spirits of my parents and their friends who dined there on many special occasions. Though my loyalty to the place remains intact, I would like to mention two things. While the menu is delightful reading, the execution of the food consistently falls short. Examples include a floury sauce, a fatty piece of meat, and a fishy piece of fish. Or mini-marshmallows on a sundae that was supposed to have marshmallow sauce. The second thing is that the service Saturday was perfunctory. We tipped 20 percent anyway. Not many customers there, but the waitress acted like she was in a hurry and it was a diner. At such a pricey place, we expect better."

  • "Been to the Daniel Webster on a couple of weekend getaways. Has always been top notch. Immaculate rooms, excellent restaurant. Highly recommend this inn."

  • "We celebrated our 49th anniversary the other evening. We had planned to have dinner at 7pm but we were early as the days plans changed. We arrived at 6pm and the greeter was happy to seat us upon our arrival. Our waiter Bob made the evening very special and was very attentive to our needs. While the day was special to us Bob made the meal a time to remember."

  • "I haven't tried the food for any other meals, but wouldn't hesitate to after the excellent brunch I had. The food was very high quality, fresh and delicious. The buffet was a brunch, but the servers we on point with drinks, plate clearing and anything else requested. The seating was comfortable, with a pleasant atmosphere, well laid out so we could carry on conversation without having to talk over our neighbours. Overall I highly recommend the brunch and wouldn't hesitate to go to the inn for Abby occasion."

  • "We have always loved the Daniel Webster Inn for its food and atmosphere, but this week we found the menu to be a bit small. The choices have been changed and the menu wasn't as interesting as it has been in the past. Although the food itself was still very good. We were disappointed in the lack of variety."

  • "A charming spot, beautiful view to the back fountain. Service was leisurely, not overly attentive. The food was a real disappointment. A lobster- stuffed filet of sole with newburg sauce (one of the daily specials) was like flavored mashed potatoes. the lobster seemed pureed, not nice and chunky and the sole was similarly mushy. Dessert portions were huge, at least twice as big as the pictures, and although my guest and I both I have healthy sweet tooths (teeth?) we left much of the desserts uneaten. The creme brulee was memorable, but the cheesecake was undistinguished. On my next visit to the Sandwich area, I will go elsewhere!"

  • "What a wonderful place to dine. We celebrated my husband's 70th. We dined on the "25" menue: a three course dinner for $25. The food was delicious! The service wonderful! We loved seeing a wood burning fireplace. Try it! I think you will be pleasantly surprised!"

  • "Went to the restaurant for their Sunday brunch buffet and it was excellent. We've been there many times and have had good and bad experiences, but this visit was excellent. I believe it was because the place wasn't packed with diners which is when the service is so-so and the food items at the buffet are sometimes empty. This visit was perfect. Great food, great service and the noise level was low. I would highly recommend the Brunch buffet when the place isn't packed with people."

  • "One things for sure, when you dine at Daniel Webster Inn, they always have comfort food cooked New England style and the quality of ingredients brings their food to a higher caliber than other restaurants in the area"

  • "We have eaten at The Daniel Webster 4 times this year, usually in the Tavern but this time we chose the Conservatory Room. It has a wall of glass which focuses on a fountain. This time of year the water is a partially frozen cascade and with soft lighting We were a party of four including my sister and her first time at the DW. We had such a lovely meal. Bryan was the perfect waiter and each of our meals was superb. Bryan suggested the winter salad with salmon. Two chose this item and were very pleased with the presentation and taste. The other selections were the chicken pot pie; a delectable lightly sauced wonder placed inside the puff pastry top by our waiter. I had the swordfish with a green salad. Desserts also were terrific."

  • "I recently had dinner in the pub of the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich. From the time we arrived until we left we had a wonderful experience. We decided on the prix fix menu for $25 which included an appetizer, entrée and dessert. It was a very good bargain because there were so many choices. I had the pork chop which had a delicious fruity sauce and was accompanied by brussel sprouts and sweet potato. My companion had the risotto with scallops which was creamy and very good. For dessert we both had the bread pudding and we licked out plates. The waitress we had was extremely friendly and very funny which added to our enjoyment. This is my fourth visit and I will definitely be making it a regular spot for dining."

  • "Visited the Inn for dinner on a Saturday night. Reservations are a must even in the dead of winter. Three dining rooms available. Make sure you request the "Conservatory" . Beautiful glass enclosed courtyard lit up by ground lighting. Very romantic. Award winning wine list complete with on site sommelier who presents and describes your wine selection. He then keeps your glasses filled throughout the meal. Ceasar salad had fresh anchovies. Appetizer of kobe beef filled raviolis in a bearnaise sauce was out of this world. entree of a lamb steak, sliced, in a red wine reduction with berries was very good but undercooked. I ordered it medium and it was presented medium rare to rare. Came with delicious asparagus and tiny cubed potatoes."

  • "We've never had a bad experience here. The Conservatory overlooks a waterfall and pond which is visible through a floor to ceiling glass wall. Lovely view any time of the year, day or night. The food is always excellent as well as the service. They were offering an early dining menu that included starter choices, entree and a dessert as well as a fixed price menu ($25) that was also three-course with additional choices in each course. We went with the latter and were very happy with that choice. Nice size portions and very well prepared and presented. They also offer their regular menu and an extensive wine list. You can't go wrong here for a very pleasant and tasty meal."

  • "I am a somewhat regular customer at the Inn and wanted to have a special night with my wife. I had my reservation in early enough (I hoped) to reserve that special table. I was not disappointed. We were seated promptly at the table I requested. The server was attentive and knew when to approach us. The food is always very good and the atmosphere is superb."

  • "We were there on a stormy cold night. It was warm and pleasant. We had a view of the courtyard, which was pretty even though it was and icefall. You could see how lovely it would be in the good weather. Food and service were wonderful."

  • "the food was some of the very best we have ever tasted at any restaurant, but was greatly offset by the very poor service. we ordered from the prix fixe menu the server was very very inattentive to our table between courses which were spaced too far apart . we waited for the bread for a long time when served the salad the server reached across the table to put cracked pepper on my wifes salad we were never asked if we wanted coffee and had to remember our desert because we were never offered a desert menu"

  • "Food was lukewarm when served, indicating it sat for a while before getting to us. The server was very busy, working 4 tables alone. The spinach in the steak florentine was too salty, as was the risotto mare - both still tasty, but a little over seasoned. I've had better meals at the Webster."

  • "Food is always good except for this last time when my husband had a rather fatty filet mignon - unusual for a filet and for this place but the other three meals were as usual very good. The waiter was a bit brusque - again unusual for this place. He seemed pre-occupied and rushed. Never a smile. Too bad. Almost a perfect 3 for 3 meals these past two months."

  • "Pub like atmosphere. We sat in the bar section. The larger room adjacent to the bar had a nice fireplace and more tables. The menu had a mixture of pub style food choices along with more "gourmet" options. They had dinner specials and early bird specials. We tried the crab stuffed mushrooms and they were very good. I ordered the half portion of wok salmon and jasmine rice. It was just the right amount for me and very good. My husband had the prime rib it was very large and he enjoyed it. Service was excellent and food as well. Would return for dinner but unfortunately we did not like the accommodations at the inn attached. The inn needs a facelift to match the excellent food served at the Tavern."

  • "The food here is amazing. I am a very good home cook/chef and when I go out, it has be better than what I can make at home and every time we dine there, I am amazed at the creativity of the food. This is not your 'special occasion only' spot to dine but an 'anytime' spot to dine."

  • "Three of us spent a very enjoyable Saturday night dining at the Tavern. Our server, Missy, was friendly, delightful, and attentive. The food was outstanding...Statler Chicken, Chicken Pot Pie, and Atlantic Salmon with a Maple-Cider Glaze. Fresh foccacia bread with an olive oil dipping sauce. Very nice selection of wines and drinks. Grapenut custard and coffee to top it all off. There was a beautiful fire burning in the fireplace. Can't think of a better way to spend a cozy winter's night. We didn't want to leave!"

  • "A nice place to get together. Our server was excellent. He was attentive and cordial. Shrimp was large and tasty. The goat cheese with beet salad would have been better if it wasn't fried. The swordfish dinner was among the best we ever had on the Cape."

  • "I started with the Asparagus Cream soup which was outstanding- then enjoyed a Cesar salad. For the main course I ordered the Lamb au Poive expecting a bit of a kick which was absent and the sauce was water thin. My wife ordered the Lobster (Market Price) that was very bland. It looked great but was severely lacking in flavor. We try and keep salt out of our diet, but it needed something. I was looking forward to the Cinnamon Bread pudding, but found out it was only offered on the pre-fix menu and they were already out of it. We would have liked the Choc Chip Cookie but our server didn't offer it. Our server seemed disinterested. We would have loved the server who took care of the tables on either side of us - bubbly personality."

  • "The Conservatory seating area was perfect....looking out at the garden with the white twinkling lights on the trees and shrubs made for a great setting. This was our second time here are we will be back. The historic setting and the Christmas decoration added to the experience. Both entrees, the duck and the steak, were very well prepared and enjoyed."

  • "30 dollars per person for what was there was a bit much, it would be a good value for 18 to 22, bot when you get a bill for 85 dollars for brunch for two (with three bloody marys) it's too expensive, and not worth the money."

  • "Not a good experience. Will not return. Booked a month in advance and asked for specific dining room. They told me they could not guarantee. Spoke and asked again two days in advance to confirm. Very smug response again that they couldn't tell me if my request would be honored. Staff here being secretive and deliberately misleading . Wondering what would secure a table request if a month pre booking did not do it. If they wanted more $ to secure preferred table on NYE thy could have been honest about it. Very unsavory New Years experience."

  • "Each time we eat at the Daniel Webster we prefer the Tavern, it is a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The food has always been good and the service is great. We enjoy this dining experience very much. Although we have eaten in the main dining area many times and it is sophisticated and contemporary in nature, it does not have the same comforting feeling that is present in the tavern."

  • "I have been to the Daniel Webster House on several occasions. Recently, I had breakfast there with a friend. There is something for everyone's taste on their menu from pancakes, French toast to wonderful omelets. My friend had the sampler which consists of French toast or pancake, bacon, sausage, choice of eggs and home fries. I had a ham, cheese and tomato omelet which was wonderful. The home fries are delicious and spiced just right. The ambience is delightful and we both had a lovely experience during this hectic Christmas season. I would recommend The Daniel Webster House very highly. Bunny 1023"
