Diner Reviews
  • "We went to the Daniel Webster to celebrate a birthday. We were very happy with everything. Our table was in the conservatory over looking a koi pond. Our dinner were excellent. I had the wok fired salmon ....delicious and nice and hot. My husband had veal oscar and was very happy. The service was perfect. It was a lovely evening and we will go back....soon."

  • "As always, we had a great lunch in the conservatory which gives you the feeling of being out in the garden but without the heat! Great food and friendly service!"

  • "As we entered the lobby, we were struck by the strong smell of mildew. Fortunately we were not tortured with mildew smells in the dining room. We received a warm welcome at the reservation desk. We received a card from a friends call in to buy us drinks - nice touch. Everyone knew that it was our anniversary because I said that on the online reservation form. The food was OUTSTANDING. Our wait service was bland, not cheerful, and proved to be sub-par when we realized there was only one perfunctory check back without an offer to refill our water glasses. We waited some time to obtain our bill. We left a 20% tip because we know there are other people who worked hard to make our experience special. We're hoping the tip was shared."

  • "The atrium-style dining room gives you the feeling you are dining in a lush garden! The wine list and menu will satisfy the gourmand, and the early bird prix fixe menu help the budget-conscious. They also demi portions if your partner is a lighter eater. and most important...the food is terrific (I loved the salmon) and the service was first class. There are several outstanding restaurants on the Cape, and this is one of them."

  • "Contemporary New England dining. A great dinner and the early bird special was an added surprise."

  • "We visited on our 29th anniversary. We had been here on previous occasions and were looked forward to a return visit. We left disappointed. The Ambience was just as we remember and expected. We were particularly disappointed in the meals. We started with stuffed mushrooms, the stuffing was not bad but without flavor. I had Veal Oscar, the veal was slightly over cooked and the sauces were without flavor. My wife had Swordfish which was also without any flavor. In summary, the quality of food was good but was generally without flavor."

  • "We have been to Daniel Webster a couple times a year and have always found it to be good. Been there with family, husband and ladies, no matter what group always enjoyed it. Favorites at lunch are their chicken pot pie. Brunch on Fathers' day was wonderful."

  • "Went for breakfast but felt rushed as the buffet was taking the staff's attention. Next time I'll take my elderly parents a day there is no buffet to get ready for."

  • "Service impeccable! Food-a party for the palate! Ambiance of your choosing. There are 4 dining rooms and a tavern."

  • "My wife and I were on the Western Cape for a week and wanted a slightly more elegant dinner spot for our anniversary. The Dan'l Webster Inn did not disappoint. The ambiance and decor are "old money". It was wonderful. We shared the Kobe beef ravioli appetizer. Simply put it was amazing. My wife had the champagne salmon which she loved, cooked to perfection - and i had a steak with grilled tomato and croquets - delicious (warning - medium rare actually means rare). With that being said, overall we had a wonderful experience. The service was on the money. The food exceeded our expectations. It was the right place for us to spend a quiet, romantic anniversary dinner."

  • "So enjoyed our lunch with friends. Loved the setting in the solarium"

  • "Tavern had widest choices of menu options so we decided to dine there. Probably for our anniversary we would have preferred the main dining room, but, again, felt the Tavern offered a breadth of options."

  • "This kitchen produces a good meal but far from a great meal. The menu is excellent, the presentation attractive, the cooking techniques acceptable, the taste lacking, Very similar to what one would get in an upscale restaurant of thirty years ago, long before the US developed the outstanding cooks it has today. It's sad because the restaurant is lovely, the wait staff excellent. If the goal is to meet the tastes of the elderly, they have met it. If the goal is to meet the standards of its competitor next door, they fall far short. A new chef could turn this venue around in an instant."

  • "Wonder place for a romantic dinner. We have been coming to the Inn for 3 years on Memorial Day weekend. The food is always exceptional and always exceeds our expectations. The dinner specials are always wonderful."

  • "My cousin and her husband were visiting from Seattle so I reserved a table for six at the Daniel Webster Inn for lunch. We had outstanding service accompanied by a great wine selection and a wonderful choice of appetizers and entrees. I really recommend the Lobster Chowder, the Lobster Grill Cheese and the Chicken Pot Pie."

  • "The service and the food were not good. We all said we would probably not go back again."
    Dined on 5/21/2014
  • "Limited menu options.. Entrees selected were prepared and presnted in a manner not up to the standards I remembered from having dined there in the past. Would not return unless some change took place and I was aware of favorable reviews from other diners."
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "The steak was dry and the shrimp was tough. We went for resturant week so maybe that is why the food was OK. Probably won't go back for the money we paid. "

  • "Booked a lunch for a group of friends on a visit to Sandwich. It worked out to be everything I had hoped; great atmosphere, excellent food, and very attentive and helpful service. You can't miss here!"

  • "My family chose the Dan'l Webster Inn for Mother's Day this year. It was fantastic. The service, food and atmosphere was great, and just what we were looking for. We had been here for Mother's Day once when our kids were little, and it was also a great experience. It was nice to find it just as wonderful now that our son was here with his wife! We enjoyed our time, and felt very relaxed, never rushed. Thank you, for a wonderful Mother's Day dinner!"

  • "The food, the service and the ambiance were first rate. Great experience for the price. Definitely deserves a return visit."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "We were a bit disappointed with the very slow service (may have been the kitchen contributing to that?); and the prices seemed quite high to what you actually got quantity-wise.. "

  • "We decided to have dinner in the tavern on the Saturday night of our stay at the Inn. The food was excellent and the service was great. There was a great selection of food to choose from. After our wonderful meal we had a berry bread pudding with ice cream and whip cream that was great. The next morning we had breakfast in the beautiful dining area. The breakfast was the best I have had in a long time. We will return."

  • "This is not the first time that we dined at Dan'l Webster Inn but each time is a charming experience. The food is always excellent and, on this particular night, we had the good fortune to have Christopher as our waiter. He has charm that goes along with the whole atmosphere of DW. It was a memorable dining experience and was enjoyed by the four of in the party. It is definitely worthwhile to dine there."

  • "Celebrating an anniversary, took family to DWI. Selected price fixe menu for five and one child. Barley beef soup was ok, uninspiring. Frute de mare portion was more a sample than a meal for my son in law, my bistro steak was served at about 50 degrees Farenheit, five broken steak "cowboy" fries, and four twigs of asparagus. Other meals were simply mediocre. Finished plates remained at table as three or four waiters waltzed by repeatedly, waitress was pleasant but I'd suggest she find a better venue. Head waiter, maitre de (?), offered no welcome and was perfunctory. All in all, I think Dan Webster would have repaired to the tavern to wash away this experience."

  • "Had 1:00 o'clock reservations on Easter Sunday, arrived a little early and was immediately seated. Waitress couldn't have been more accommodating and food was served exactly as requested. Didn't feel rushed and plan on going back again in the near future. "

  • "We have had better food at non-holiday times. They seemed a little disorganized. The turkey was dry - the fish was not hot that I had although it was tastey. Not sure I would go again for a holiday."

  • "We had a lovely time. Food was excellent. Restaurant was lovely. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely go back sometime."

  • "The waitstaff was friendly and the service was excellent. Appetizers, entrees and dessert was delicious and the view of the garden, lovely."

  • "We traveled down there for our anniversary and were very disappointed. The food was terrible and sparse, we had to send my husbands piece of steak back and ordered prime rib ( very fatty). the steak was like a hockey puck...only 3 pieces of asparagus and a little croquet potato side. I expected more food for $30.0. The chef should have been embarrassed sending that plate out of the kitchen. I had one of the $24. special and that was ok even though I would upgrade the veggies selection. No salad and a basket with 3 little pieces of bread in it and no offer of a refill.... We used to go the the Daniel Webster frequently many years ago and will not go back again. "

  • "A nice ambiance, attentive waitstaff and a large varied selection of delicious offerings. The Inn is a historic site and management has done a nice job of furnishings and upgrades. Tablecloths, linen napkins and upholstered chairs. You can also skip the brunch buffer and opt for a breakfast until 11am! Good value for the money."

  • "Been to the Daniel Webster on a couple of weekend getaways. Has always been top notch. Immaculate rooms, excellent restaurant. Highly recommend this inn."

  • "Based on the good reviews I read about I thought I'd try this place...our server started out being attentive and basically vanished for the rest of our time. We were in the tavern...food was okay, not great...and the bill came and it was a lot--I'm okay paying a lot when I got out but not for the lack of mediocre food we got. This place had a tired feel to it and felt like an old Cape Cod motel. Never going back for dinner. If I was in the area and wanted to sit up at the bar and have a drink, I might consider that. "

  • "The Daniel Webster is an old favorite in an historic neighborhood. Superb ambience. I can feel the spirits of my parents and their friends who dined there on many special occasions. Though my loyalty to the place remains intact, I would like to mention two things. While the menu is delightful reading, the execution of the food consistently falls short. Examples include a floury sauce, a fatty piece of meat, and a fishy piece of fish. Or mini-marshmallows on a sundae that was supposed to have marshmallow sauce. The second thing is that the service Saturday was perfunctory. We tipped 20 percent anyway. Not many customers there, but the waitress acted like she was in a hurry and it was a diner. At such a pricey place, we expect better."

  • "We celebrated our 49th anniversary the other evening. We had planned to have dinner at 7pm but we were early as the days plans changed. We arrived at 6pm and the greeter was happy to seat us upon our arrival. Our waiter Bob made the evening very special and was very attentive to our needs. While the day was special to us Bob made the meal a time to remember."

  • "I haven't tried the food for any other meals, but wouldn't hesitate to after the excellent brunch I had. The food was very high quality, fresh and delicious. The buffet was a brunch, but the servers we on point with drinks, plate clearing and anything else requested. The seating was comfortable, with a pleasant atmosphere, well laid out so we could carry on conversation without having to talk over our neighbours. Overall I highly recommend the brunch and wouldn't hesitate to go to the inn for Abby occasion."

  • "We have always loved the Daniel Webster Inn for its food and atmosphere, but this week we found the menu to be a bit small. The choices have been changed and the menu wasn't as interesting as it has been in the past. Although the food itself was still very good. We were disappointed in the lack of variety."
