My roast chicken was tough, tasteless and messy too eat. I've had better tasting, more tender and a larger portion for $2.79 from a Stop N Shop. To be fair the sauce was delicious - unfortunately it did not permeate the chicken. In contrast, my wife's halibut was excellent. My review of the food is based on the chicken. The vegetation motif of the dining room along with the singer at the bar results in an ambience rating of 5 stars.

Dinner at the Dan'l Webster is a fine dining experience! Our waiter, Chris, made us feel very comfortable. When I questioned the dairy content of a certain soup, he gave me options. I chose the Cauliflower soup. Fantabulous. The option to order "demi" portions on many of the entrees is a great idea. Much less waste this way. We did not go into the bar, but it looked like it was hopping!

This is a restaurant that never disappoints. We have been coming to both the inn and the restaurant for many years and we may be either comforted by our usual New England favorives, or surprised by a new gourmet twist on favotrite foods that the chef has come up with. We love it!

As usual, the Sunday brunch was excellent, and a real value at $25.95 pp. My wife and I make a five course event of the meal; schrimp plate, salad, soup, entrée (the signature seafood crepes are outstanding), and desserts. The view of the water pond and gardens from the Conservatory room provides a very nice ambiance.

Chose due to Open Table connection & prix fixe menu. Enjoyed scallop cake & tuna tostada for apps & fruits of the sea & timbale of sole for entrees. Mango sorbet & grapenut pudding for dessert. All good. Regular menu quite extensive & tempting but this week's vacation was about trying new restaurants w/an eye towards frugality, ergo the prix fixe route. Our waitress, Nancy B., was friendly, yet polished & very professional. Ate in main dining room in cushioned high-backed chairs overlooking water garden & lovely. Tavern also looked very inviting for crisp fall or snowy winter evening. All-in-all a wonderful surprise, not knowing if "old school" would = "dated", but clearly they know what they are doing. Elegance reigned.

Lots of ambiance - there is a "Tavern" dining room and a "Conservatory" dining room. The menu is extensive and creative, but some dishes do not live up to the hype. The biggest problem we had was VERY slow service - no one seemed to be in charge, and the meal dragged on for over 2-hours (Monday night). The Inn was fairly busy, and there was obviously some big deal going on in Sandwich, as when we exited there were hordes of people, police, detours, etc. The Daniel Webster is "good," but not excellent.

As we entered the lobby, we were struck by the strong smell of mildew. Fortunately we were not tortured with mildew smells in the dining room. We received a warm welcome at the reservation desk. We received a card from a friends call in to buy us drinks - nice touch. Everyone knew that it was our anniversary because I said that on the online reservation form. The food was OUTSTANDING. Our wait service was bland, not cheerful, and proved to be sub-par when we realized there was only one perfunctory check back without an offer to refill our water glasses. We waited some time to obtain our bill. We left a 20% tip because we know there are other people who worked hard to make our experience special. We're hoping the tip was shared.

The atrium-style dining room gives you the feeling you are dining in a lush garden! The wine list and menu will satisfy the gourmand, and the early bird prix fixe menu help the budget-conscious. They also demi portions if your partner is a lighter eater. and most important...the food is terrific (I loved the salmon) and the service was first class. There are several outstanding restaurants on the Cape, and this is one of them.

We visited on our 29th anniversary. We had been here on previous occasions and were looked forward to a return visit. We left disappointed. The Ambience was just as we remember and expected. We were particularly disappointed in the meals. We started with stuffed mushrooms, the stuffing was not bad but without flavor. I had Veal Oscar, the veal was slightly over cooked and the sauces were without flavor. My wife had Swordfish which was also without any flavor. In summary, the quality of food was good but was generally without flavor.

My wife and I were on the Western Cape for a week and wanted a slightly more elegant dinner spot for our anniversary. The Dan'l Webster Inn did not disappoint. The ambiance and decor are "old money". It was wonderful. We shared the Kobe beef ravioli appetizer. Simply put it was amazing. My wife had the champagne salmon which she loved, cooked to perfection - and i had a steak with grilled tomato and croquets - delicious (warning - medium rare actually means rare). With that being said, overall we had a wonderful experience. The service was on the money. The food exceeded our expectations. It was the right place for us to spend a quiet, romantic anniversary dinner.

This kitchen produces a good meal but far from a great meal. The menu is excellent, the presentation attractive, the cooking techniques acceptable, the taste lacking, Very similar to what one would get in an upscale restaurant of thirty years ago, long before the US developed the outstanding cooks it has today. It's sad because the restaurant is lovely, the wait staff excellent. If the goal is to meet the tastes of the elderly, they have met it. If the goal is to meet the standards of its competitor next door, they fall far short. A new chef could turn this venue around in an instant.
