We had an amazing gin/basil/cucumber cocktail as a pre-drink before we got shown to our table. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. As we were 2 people, we chose different dishes for each course, ending up each tasting 12 dishes from this restaurant. All dishes were exceptional from a presentation, taste and design point of view. The service at Daniel is exceptional. The following dishes were my favorites: duck terrine with patched rhubarb, trio of hamachi, jade tiger abalone with sea buckthorn, fennel ravioli with Scottish langoustine, bread crusted Arctic char, trio of milk fed veal a d duo of beef. Everything was perfect, food is incredible and service is perfect. They take their time to explain every detail of each dish and their recommendations were good choices. If you don't want to dive into the loooong wine list, just go for wine pairing. It s the best way IMHO to discover new and tasty wines you would have never chosen. Regardless of whatever you read here as a review, it IS one of the finest restaurants in NYC and, for that matter, the World. From the food to the ambiance to the service, it excels on all counts. It isn't cheap, and does not represent a "good" value if all you care about is great food; however, If you want to celebrate something notable or take someone special somewhere special, and price is not a major concern, this is THE place. Daniel provides the best service for which anyone can ask. Each and every dish was meticulously decorated and planned. However, a few negatives: I have had better quality steak, as their beef probably does not come from local cows. Daniel was up to the task in almost all areas. The dining is gorgeous. It's not the table-on-top-of-table scene you get at lots of places in NYC. The food was fantastic in every way...nothing to criticize at all. The beef duo perfect. The crayfish and asparagus appetizer was an amazing array of flavors. Two awkward moments keep me from giving it 5 stars on service: THREE hostesses stood up when we walked in and it was as if we were intruding; one of them then all but insisted we sit while waiting for our table. Whilst I felt that perhaps our youth was not appreciated, my husband did not and said that he felt we were treated like any other guest there. Afterall if your spending $500 on a meal it shouldn't matter what age you are if you can pay the bill. One of the waiters even saw that he secured us a taxi which I was very pleased with.
