Diner Reviews
  • "This is a neighborhood favorite of ours. We are addicted to the pasta with garlic and anchovies. The service is normally good unless you get the woman upstairs. Ask for another table if you do."

  • "Dinner was great. The penne arrabiata was delicious. Dessert was less so. Their cheesecake isn't so good. Otherwise, it's a good place to go. We are outside, which was really nice."

  • "The garlic-infused olive oil was fantastic and the penne arrabiata was very good, too. I was told the specials by my waiter and was surprised when I heard another waiter give a more elaborated list to another table, especially since there were dishes on his list I would have been interested in. I was extremely disappointed when I was served a half-frozen piece of chocolate cake. If it isn't ready to serve, they shouldn't offer it, especially since it isn't on a menu but part of a list of choices the waiter gives you."

  • "Food quality was great. Taste was amazing. I very much enjoyed our food. Good selection on the menu too. I look forward to go back. The noise was quiet but I believe that's because we were there so late. I have a feeling during prime seating it could get very loud, but that won't stop me from going again. And people were still being seated at 10pm, which is great."

  • "We went as a group of 6. Had great service, the brushetta was great, we all had a mix of things and everyone loved what they ordered. Would def recommend."

  • "Great Italian ambiance. Quantity was very fulfilling. Even the free bread was great."

  • "I hadn't been here for over 10 years. I was taking my daughter downtown and decided to show her one of my favorite spots from the past. They gave us this tiny cocktail table on the first floor. When I said I had requested a table by the window or a booth, the hostess said they had no booths and the one table by the window was already occupied. When I told her I had a reservation with open table she left and came back with the owner and said we could move to the other side of the room that had a L-shaped couch with a table in front of it. The food was disappointing. The worst part of the experience was after I paid, the waiter came back and said the bill was incorrect and I needed to pay an additional $16.00. I will never return!"

  • "The food is unbelievable!!! There are so many italian restaurants that call themselves "true" Italian, but you can taste it in the food at D'Aneglo's....and OMG the red sauce!!!! TO DIE FOR!!!"

  • "Everything was awesome, service, food, ambience, perfect for a romantic date. Anyone who complains about this place is too hard to please. Nothing was rushed, they let you enjoy the moment. Definitely recommend!!!!"

  • "Sticker shock when the appetizer pricing came with the bill! It was as much as the veal entree for some broccoli rabe with a few pieces of sausage! The food was good but the tables are on top of each other as we witnessed a man almost fall trying to get in to his seat! Luckily he didn't!"

  • "The food was definitely sitting out for a while. It was cramped and overpriced. Needless to say my boyfriend picked it on the sole basis that they sold chicken parm. Luckily we had ice cream at the Franklin fountain after and it made the night all better. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone nor will I be returning. Could have made a much better meal at home or gone to a freeking pizza place for more authentic and homemade Italian food. Literally go to a pizza place before this place the oil with herbs was the best part and I would have gladly drank that for dinner over my pasta and shrimp which was for sure made the night before. My boyfriends chicken parm tho was pretty okay I will say that. If you go here good luck."

  • "We enjoyed the Restaurant Week entrees on a Friday night and could not have more satisfied. From the appetizers to the dessert selections, everything was five-star. The service was unparalleled."

  • "Enjoyed dinner for two. The drinks at the bar are a joke...$10 for a mini-glass."

  • "We must be because I swear everyone there was from NJ. Saturday nights are rather loud, and can be obnoxious. Food is always good, however, if you can get a decent table."

  • "I took a group of six people for lunch to celebrate a colleague's 30th anniversary. It was wonderful. The staff was terrific and the food was wonderful. We really enjoyed the celebration. They even brought out a plate of dessert items to share! I would highly recommed it."

  • "Excellent!!!!! The food from beginning to end was fabulous. The service excellent and very well attended. D'Angelo's is a good find. After 10 PM on a Friday night part of the restraunt becomes a disco and you can go work off all the delicious food you just ate."

  • "Everything here was very good, as the title says. But I do believe it was a bit overpriced. That being said, it is probably due mostly to location and surrounding competition. So, I would say its worth it and would probably dine here again."

  • "Saw the ad for this place in America's Cuisine magazine in my hotel room. So we scheduled a business dinner on a Friday evening with someone from Valley Forge, PA, someone from Princeton, NJ, someone from Collingswood, NJ and the reviewer who convinced them to enjoy old school Italian in the city. Some shared apps - stuffed mushrooms, fried calamari, and a two signature salads got the dinner started right. Wonderful service added to the classic dishes including - Lobster Fra Diavlo, stuffed flounder, double cut veal chop, and an Italian NY strip that was big enough for everyone to get a taste. Served with a solid bottle of Chianti at a fair price, this was a great place to meet, and a great meal too!"

  • "The food was pretty good, especially the spaghetti and meatballs. But, the service was slow and we had to remind our waitress several times to bring various items. We never did get our sparkling water. My husband ordered the Veal Marsala, which underwhelmed him. I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon."

  • "Food on this Restaurant Week menu was more than ample and all in party enjoyed what they ordered. The noise from surrounding tables detracted from the overall positive experience."

  • "This place is so wonderful! Food and service are out of this world. It's like little Italy, feel right at home! If you like Italian food you need to go here! Plenty of great stuff to try, can't wait to go back!"

  • "Food was great and the service was excellent. Went for restaurant week, which was great. Would definitely go back again for the regular menu. Homemade fettuccine with crab meat (huge chucks of lump crab) in red sauce was AMAZING!"

  • "Came to D'Angelo's on a Friday night to unwind after a long week of classes. We were greeted at the door, coats were checked and we were shown to our table. It is a cozy, but not cramped dining area upstairs. Our server was very nice and helpful, but the service could have been a bit faster. We had the caprese salad and stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer and tagliatelle and chicken Florentine, as well as a glass of wine. All of the food was delicious and the portions were generous. All in all, this was a very good restaurant and I woiuld recommend giving them a try if you are in the mood for a nice Italian meal"

  • "This was my first time dining at D'Angelo's & I have to say it is the best Italian food I have had in a restaurant. (I am Italian) The pasta is homemade, everything is fresh, not swimming in garlic like a lot of other "Italian" restaurants. Meat was tender, even my very picky husband & daughter loved it. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This was supposed to be feast of the seven fishes, it had 7 fishes but the portions and prices were out of whack"
    Dined on 12/24/2013
  • "It was OK. But, I was hoping for something a bit more special. I think it could have been better, but the seating was not that comfortable (one of those deals where one side of the table is a booth bench and the other side is real chairs, and there is a table so close that you are sharing the "booth" with the people next to you), our waiter had a lackluster personality, and desert (it was my wife's birthday, which I had told the restaurant ahead of time) was pitiful. The food was OK but not memorable. The only real good part: my son and daughter could find something on the menu they would eat, but that is not a ringing endorsement. I was hoping and trying for more. Too many places to try before going back to D'Angelos (unfortunately)."

  • "Very nice dinner with family. We had an excellent experience with D'Angelo's. We will definitely dine there again. Service and staff were very professional but warm and inviting which made us feel very comfortable. We would recommend for anyone looking for a place to dine after a show or celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We've always loved Deangelos for classics like chicken, veal or Steak with their burnt onions, ziti & asparagus, the Milan Salad & The Special Chopped antipasti. My wife & I just returned from Rome and were dreaming About the pasta. Guess what? We were blown away By Chef's amazing carbonara spaghetti! Not on the menu, but If your lucky, Bon appetito!"

  • "I make a once a year trip to Philly for the PMA show at the Convention Center. Haven't missed D'Angelos in 10 years. We love the food and the whole experience. The broccoli rabe and housemade sausage is a must. The veal chop special is amazing. This is old world Italian food at it's best!"

  • "This is a great little neighborhood place. Basically, red sauce Italian. Nothing spectacular but good, consistently. I've eaten there 3 or 4 times in the past 6 months and always left satisfied with leftovers of the huge portions."

  • "This restaurant has been around forever and I'd forgotten about it. I ate here about a month ago and was surprised and delighted how delicious it was...so I brought a friend to celebrate his birthday. He is a true gourmet and was skeptical of my choice. Our dinner was excellent and he now says he's a convert to D'Angelo's, too."

  • "In town on business, has seen this restaurant featured in America's Cuisine Philadelphia in my hotel room. We were looking for some old world Italian classics and found them here! Broccoli Rabe with fried hot sausage, stuffed mushrooms and a huge plate of caprese Buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad were are shared appetizers. Dinner entrees included the table side filet of dover sole, the biggest veal chop I'd ever seen, and the "fruit of the sea" pasta. Wonderful presentation and even better execution from the kitchen. Delicious meal was followed by three ICE COLD limoncello after-dinner drinks and the perfect way to end this old world Italian meal. Order for all sides of this menu - you will not be disappointed!"
