Diner Reviews
  • "6 of us who dined At Dancing on a Saturday evening. We had some picky eaters in our group and there was a great selection for everyone. We all thought the food was excellent. While the drink menu was limited no one seemed to mind and we all found something (or more than one something!) to enjoy. Service was excellent - attentive and the food was paced nicely. Dessert (one of everything!) was also great. I have no idea how we still had room but I'm glad we did. We sat at the Chef's Table which was a lively and enjoyable place to sit. The noise level is high but it added to the overall experience and didn't prohibit conversation at the table. We'll definitely be back. Love the small plate idea - wish more places would adopt the model."

  • "We've been to Dancing Marlin several times now, and every experience has been great. We tend to walk away spending a little bit more than we might have at a traditional restaurant, but that's on us. We keep the plates coming because we want to try so many different things. This time our party of four included one vegetarian and she was thrilled with the many choices available. Energetic vibe, Northside-Chicago feel. We need more places like Dancing Marlin in the SW suburbs."

  • "I went on half price wine night. Good deal if you like wine; I don't. Skip the rest of the drinks and go for their version of the margarita. Try the fries, sliders, any of the fish, mushroom pizza, the steak was superb; market price. Skip the scalloped potatoes. Skip the artichokes. I'd definitely go again! Desert was the disappointment. Brownie. Good but like it was an after thought."

  • "We went with a small group of 8. We had a reservation but still waited about 30 minutes before getting a table. It was a Saturday night the place was packed and I guess where they planned on sitting us the group had been there a long time. The manager was apologetic. We just stood around the crowded bar. Once we were sat we disinterested see a waitress for some time so I went to the host/ manager to let them know. After that everything was good for the rest of the night. Lots of fun creative drinks and food. It was nice to be able to try so many different things. Tapas style is great that way. Really a fun place nothing like it in the area."

  • "Ambiance was satisfactory and prices were very fair. We came here with our teenage kids and did not do our homework and did not know they did not serve entrée or complete meals here. So that was 1st dissappoint which I take the blame. Not our fault ws 6 blood dripping sliderd and a waiter who seemed annoyed w/ our lack of knowledge of the Tapas concept. Never coming back with the family but maybe adult friends."

  • "I loved everything I ate and the cocktails were delish! Fried kale, smoked fish dip, duck pierogies, seafood risotto and the donuts and coffee! I wish they had outdoor dining! Looks like they have plenty of room for large groups/parties. Only issue was it was a little loud for my friend and I to hear eachother talk."

  • "Prices are too high for the suburbs, pricing as though they were a downtown place. Understanding that this is a tapas place, the prices force this to be a one and done."

  • "Great food with great service! Enjoyed half price wine on Tuesdays! The food was really good and fresh. Out waiter was really attentive and nice as well. The restaurant itself is nice and clean inside. Decor was nice as well. Reminded me of being somewhere in Florida by the ocean. All in all a good dinner experience. Will come back!"

  • "My husband and I went to the Dancing Marlin with 2 of our very good friends for a nice Friday night out. We enjoy going out together and trying new restaurants in and around the area. We we absolutely delighted with our experience at Dancing Marlin!!! I really appreciate the attention given to sustainability and the use of local and organic ingredients as much as possible!! Wonderful! We started out with the fried kale. YUM. Between the 4 of us we ordered the scallops, the ahi tuna, the stuffed peppers with crab, and the duck sausage, the warm winter vegetable sadad and the Brussels sprouts! We also shared the donuts for dessert! We had so much fun sharing and everything...and I do mean everything was excellent!! We will be back!!"

  • "Dancing Marlin offers delicious and creative American food. Don't be put off by the name; this is much more than a seafood place. In fact, there are plenty of well-prepared, thoughtful options for vegetarians. The menu has seasonal dishes and every week the chefs also create several different "specials" so you can return for your favorites with the possibility of trying a new dish as well. The food is presented on "small plates" (tapas style) that are meant to share and allow you to choose from a wide variety of selections on the menu. If you don't agree on a dish, however, the plates are manageable enough for individual servings. We particularly like the mushroom "sliders" (try them!), and the sides, salads, and entrees are fabulous."

  • "Our second time and both were awesome. All the food is small plates and everything we had was delicious. Decent wine on tap (we are not experts). The only negative is that the tables are close together making it quite noisy and impacting service a little. Still, this is my favorite restaurant in the south suburbs."

  • "This was a great find! The food was great and the atmosphere very lively and fun!! My favorite dish of the evening was the seared ahi tuna, yum!!! We enjoyed many small plates and enjoyed them all. Can't wait to return."

  • "Really enjoyed this place, am really glad it's in my neighborhood-what a great addition. The food was all very fresh and well made and we left plesantly full. Between the 2 of us we did 6 small plates and a dessert. Tried some wine and also did the cocktail flight. It's noisy and fun. I like idea of small plates, you can eat as much or as little as you please. Can't wait to see what menu changes spring brings. Will definitely go back."

  • "Really enjoyed our meal and drinks here. The small plates were generous and delicious - really enjoyed the brisket sliders and the shrimp and chorizo tacos. Our server was knowledgeable and made some great recommedations. We ate early, but could see it starting to fill up by the time we were leaving. We will be back. There are many dishes on the menu that I am looking forward to trying. The desserts were delicious as well. Hoping they get an outdoor dining option for the summer months."

  • "This tapas restaurant was excellent. I've already made plans for another night out. We tried 4 different dishes and were completely satisfied, not to mention stuffed! The restaurant was busy as we went at prime time on a Friday, but the staff was more than accommodating and the owner even brought our dessert out. I highly recommend this place! The scallops were excellent, as was our starter of whitefish dip. The candles on each table were a wonderful mood enhancer. Everything was elegantly prepared! Definitely a must try!"

  • "Always an intersting experience with some hits and misses. Heavy on seafood, hence the name. Fried Kale unique and good as well as the Sloppy Josephs. Avoid the brussel sprouts! Flat breads are delicious. A place to definately try and see if it suits you."

  • "I was looking forward to our second visit but was very disappointed with the quality of the food. I had a shrimp and mussel dish that used popcorn shrimp and extremely small mussels not a quality dish I was expecting. Other dishes were also not up to standard. We will not be returning."

  • "Our experience (six of us) at Dancing Marlin was all we could hope for. We've been to other high-end tapas restaurants but finding this treasure so much closer to home was a pleasant surprise! Everything we tried was well prepared, flavorful, especially the duck pierogi . Staff was friendly, helpful. Prices were surprisingly reasonable. We will definitely return."

  • "We went for Valentine's Day, and were able to get a last minute reservation. Our server was fantastic, with as busy as she was she never neglected us. All of the food we had was delicious, except the ahi nachos. They were a little bland. I had a great a dirty martini, and I highly recommend the coffee and donuts for dessert."

  • "Always looking for a great place to go eat & talk. This place has both types of atmospheres. Great for a group of friends or just going for a little romantic dinner with someone special. I loved the whole food sharing with the small appetizers. Food and drinks were awesome. Did not get to try many because I filled up on a few dishes. I will be back over and over. Loved it! Clean fun great service."

  • "Worth the drive to Frankfort for a unique, quality food experience. Small, flavorful portions are the specialty. There are more meat dishes than seafood. Best for sharing. The dining experience is one of the best in the suburbs. Quality all the way."

  • "The wines and craft cocktails on tap are excellent: I have trouble choosing between the two, but I often choose the cocktail flight. The Scofflaw and Tom Loves Cucumbers are my favorites. The sliders (both mushroom & beef) are yummy too! Gnudi is also a standout."

  • "There are not too many good restaurants south of Orland Park, but the Dancing Marlin moved to the top of the list of places I will go back to when looking for a good meal. This was my second visit, and I think this place is tied for first place for my favorite restaurant within 45 minutes of home. Reminds me of a downtown restaurant. The small plate concept is a lot of fun, and every menu item we tried on both visits ranged from pretty good to outstanding. Was very happy to see the place really busy on this visit because I really hope it stays around. I highly recommend giving the Dancing Marlin a shot. It is really good."
