Diner Reviews
  • "thought the burgers were very good..delicious and tasty..nice portion for the price..salad was also very hearty..had the cobb salad..enjoyed it very much"

  • "Dan Rooney has the worst food and service.... I ordered 2 well-done burgers with the salad. One burger was ok, but the other was dry and BURNT. I sat there waiting for the waitress to come back to ask how was my meal and she NEVER checked on me. So, I called to the manager who then gladly took the BURNT BURGER back to the kitchen and ordered a fresh new burger. I received the new burger, but it was just a burger between the bun. Again, I waited for the waitress to check on me and she didn't. The only time she came to check on me was when she asked if I was finished and needed the check. It was then I told her to get the manager, again. The manager was EXCELLENT... She was disappointed to hear that her staff NEVER CHECKED on me."

  • "This restaurant needs management work. The dinner took forever to come. It was just fair. The check was impossible to get . if you want a quick bite..not happening here."

  • "We came over to Empire City to try Dan Rooney's corned beef and cabbage as well as their Shepards Pie the day before St. Patrick's Day. The place is pretty "no frills" in that you don't even get a basket of bread with your meal but the food was actually quite good. I would like to return to try their chicken since we saw them roasting on a spit in the back of the dining room. After eating we went into the casino and my husband promptly won $250. Must have been the luck of Dan Rooney's!"

  • "This was our second visit. We went for dinner/drinks and to see Steve Rilley, who was playing that night. We asked to be seated close to the music, the hostess even acknowledged that when she sat us, but we were as far away as you could be from where he was playing. Bummer, but we were just about done eating so we went over to sit at the bar. It's great that each booth has it's own television. Our waiter seemed a bit uninterested in us, but it was very busy and no mistakes were made, it just took some effort on our part to get his attention. Food was very good. The restaurant week menu was being offered and one of us opted for that...Waldorf salad was okay, braised beef was excellent and the chocolate mousse was very good."

  • "Menu is extremely limited. It is a remnant of the prior "Irish pub" menu. They should have eliminated the menu completely and started over. Food is overpriced and mediocre at best. For a much better meal and better value eat in PINCH upstairs."

  • "The food was good but the service was lousy it took a verry long time to get out good and the waiter was verry buisy more staff should probably be hired I was in there for 1hr and 45min for a salad and wings"

  • "Had 5pm reservation. Arrived early stood in long line. Got up to front at 430p. Told by hostess because we had reservation we needed to come back at 5pm, but she was seating everyone else who were walk in's and had no reservations. When we came back and again stood in the line I found out reservations were not needed and it was first come first serve. Had we have not had a reservation she would have seated us at the beginning. I was livid. Plenty of open seats but only for walk ins. Makes no sense. On the good side the service and food was excellent. We will be back again but without reservations this time."

  • "Our waiter took our food order and we never saw him again. I had to ask different people to give us wayer, refill our drinks. Then, at the end, the waiter showed up to see if we needed anything else and handed me the bill. I was disppointed in the level of service. The food was great, the chicken was outstanding."

  • "Wait staff not knowledgeable about menu- seemed disinterested and unorganized though restaurant not busy. 50% of our group did not care for their meals."

  • "The overall was pleasant, but the food wasn't worth the price it was charged. I ordered a Ribeye steak, and have never seen anything like that for 25 dollars. I also counted the potatoes,4 of them, disgraceful. My husband and I go out to dinner quite often and were not pleased with the food."

  • "Food was ok. Not bad, but not good enough to make us want to go back either. Short-staffed for a Saturday night. Appeared to be only one bartender working the restaurant and casino bars and service bar. Our food server was ok. He definitely had more experience than many others we saw. Other servers were trying, but it seemed like they were all new. Two managers (owners ??) weren't very effective at helping staff deal with a full house. Unfortunately, we've found this experience is the norm at Empire City restaurants. We'll be dining elsewhere from now on."

  • "First time visiting this restaurant, and the service was horrific. It seemed on a Saturday night there were only 2 waitresses. Lots of runners and 2 managers/bus boys but the waitresses were horrible. We waiting 10 minutes for drinks, the nachos came out with TONS of onions on them (julienned not even chopped or diced) we had to send the appetizer back for them to remove all onions. In the time we waited for our appetizer to come back we requested drinks from our server, which took 10 minutes again to receive. Food came (nothing to praise about). 1/2 Chicken was moist yet the side of potatoes (4 pieces) were overcooked and the roasted garlic didn’t really go with the dish. I had the sliders and i must say the corned beef was ok"

  • "First time dining at Rooneys. The waitress was very pleasant and overall we received very good service. A fairly good selection of brews. Ordered nachos and potato popper for apps. Potato was excellent and plenty of them. Nachos were not typical--with very little meat; but good nonetheless. My husband and I had hamburgers--not too much to mess up there. The meat was tasty, but mine was overcooked compared for what I asked for. I would like to go back to try different items."

  • "Really well done design. Lead and bass guitarists played. TVs all around, including at your table to watch the races or game. the nachos are better than average, with chunks of avocado on them as well. The tab beers are a nice selection, and are always crisp, fresh and cold. The burgers are award winning, and taste like it. The ribs that my buddy had looked, and he said we very good. You sit well, and are well looked after. Recommend!"

  • "Food is good.tables too close together. Service depends on waitstaff, had good service except the last time. Had a guy that was not good, rarely came over, another waitress had to take our order. He never asked if every thing was okay , we had to ask for check and waited 15 minutes. Needless to say haven't been back since and didn't leave my usual 20%plus tip. Would go to pinch instead."

  • "Can get better tasting, pricing & service from a diner. The restaurant is beautiful & tv's all over the place. A LA CARTE brunch $30ea with unlimited mimosas or bloody Mary's. That's $120 for 4 for BRUNCH...really!? Food is mediocre at best. Had to ask the other servers to look for our waitress so she can get the simple things like milk for our $5 tea/coffee, butter for the $10 pancakes and our change. The place wasn't even crowded. I would think brunch should at least include coffee/tea. To have a drink or two while taking a break from gaming, watching a game or as a night cap, this place should be fine but to eat and hang out...better come with a fat wallet or hit big in the casino 'cause if they don't get coming they'll get you going!l"

  • "Dinner on a Friday evening was a nice surprise. We have visited Dan Rooney's for lunch before but never dinner. We were seated right away and the manager saw how busy our waiter was snd quickly came over to take our order. He made us feel very welcome and even covered dessert when one of our orders was delayed. He didn't have to, but it was a very nice and appreciated thing to do. We enjoyed our meals while watching the live feed from the trotters. A very enjoyable evening."
